We prove equality of analytic and topological $L^2$-torsion associated with an odd-dimensional finite volume hyperbolic manifold and a representation of the fundamental group which extends to the ambient Lie group. This generalizes a previous result due to Lück and Schick. Alternatively, this result can be regarded as the $L^2$-analogue of recent work by Müller and Rochon.

Higher dimensional Reidemeister torsion invariants for cusped hyperbolic 3-manifolds

For an oriented finite volume hyperbolic 3-manifold M with a fixed spin structure η, we consider a sequence of invariants {τ_n(M; η)}. Higher even dimensional Reidemeister torsion for torus knot exteriors

We study the asymptotics of the higher dimensional Reidemeister torsion for torus knot exteriors, which is related to the results by W. Müller and P. Menal-Ferrer and J. Porti on the asymptotics of the Reidemeister torsion and the hyperbolic volumes for hyperbolic 3-manifolds. We show that the sequence of log |the higher dimensional Reidemeister torsion of a torus knot exterior with SL(2N,C)-representation| / (2N)^2 converges to zero when N goes to infinity. We also give a classification for SL(2,C)-representations of torus knot groups, which induce acyclic SL(2N,C)-representations.

Homology bounds for hyperbolic orbifolds

We will provide bounds on both the Betti numbers and the torsion part of the homology of hyperbolic orbifolds. These bounds are linear in the volume and are a direct consequence of an efficient simplicial model of the thick part, which we will construct as well. Generalized torsion in knot groups

We show that for many classical knots one can find generalized torsion in the fundamental group of its complement, commonly called the knot group. It follows that such a group is not bi-orderable. Examples include all torus knots, the (hyperbolic) knot $5_2$ and satellites of these knots.

Equivariant $K$-homology for hyperbolic reflection groups

We compute the equivariant $K$-homology of the classifying space for proper actions, for compact 3-dimensional hyperbolic reflection groups. This coincides with the topological $K$-theory of the reduced $C^\ast$-algebra associated to the group, via the Baum-Connes conjecture. We show that, for any such reflection group, the associated $K$-theory groups are torsion-free. As a result we can promote previous rational computations to integral compu- tations. Torsion theories of simplicial groups with truncated Moore complex

We introduce a linearly ordered lattice $μ(Grp)$ of torsion theories in simplicial groups. The torsion theories are defined where the torsion/torsion-free subcategories are given by the simplicial groups with bounded above/below Moore complex, respectively. These torsion theories extend naturally the torsion theories in internal groupoids in groups. Connections of this lattice with the homotopy groups are established since the homotopy groups of a simplicial group can be calculated as the quotients of torsion subojects.
