Induced and higher-dimensional stable independence

We provide several crucial technical extensions of the theory of stable independence notions in accessible categories. In particular, we describe circumstances under which a stable independence notion can be transferred from a subcategory to a category as a whole, and examine a number of applications to categories of groups and modules, extending results of [MAa]. We prove, too, that under the hypotheses of [LRV], a stable independence notion immediately yields higher-dimensional independence as in [SV].

Elimination of Hyperimaginaries and Stable Independence in simple CM-trivial theories

In a simple CM-trivial theory every hyperimaginary is interbounded with a sequence of finitary hyperimaginaries. Moreover, such a theory eliminates hyperimaginaries whenever it eliminates finitary hyperimaginaries. In a supersimple CM-trivial theory, the independence relation is stable.

Cellular categories and stable independence

We exhibit a bridge between the theory of cellular categories, used in algebraic topology and homological algebra, and the model-theoretic notion of stable independence. Dependence Logic in Pregeometries and $ω$-Stable Theories

We present a framework for studying the concept of independence in a general context covering database theory, algebra and model theory as special cases. We show that well-known axioms and rules of independence for making inferences concerning basic atomic independence statements are complete with respect to a variety of semantics. Our results show that the uses of independence concepts in as different areas as database theory, algebra and model theory, can be completely characterized by the same axioms. We investigate the notions of strict independence and strict non-forking, and establish basic properties and connections between the two. In particular it follows from our investigation that in resilient theories strict non-forking is symmetric.
