We study the effective dynamics of an open scalar field interacting with a strongly-coupled two-dimensional rotating CFT plasma. The effective theory is determined by the real-time correlation functions of the thermal plasma. We employ holographic Schwinger-Keldysh path integral techniques to compute the effective theory. The quadratic effective theory computed using holography leads to the linear Langevin dynamics with rotation. The noise and dissipation terms in this equation get related by the fluctuation-dissipation relation in presence of chemical potential due to angular momentum. We further compute higher order terms in the effective theory of the open scalar field. At quartic order, we explicitly compute the coefficient functions that appear in front of various terms in the effective action in the limit when the background plasma is slowly rotating. The higher order effective theory has a description in terms of the non-linear Langevin equation with non-Gaussianity in the thermal noise.
It is interesting to note that most black holes are born very slowly rotating. We investigate scalarization of slowly rotating black holes in the Einstein-scalar-Chern-Simons (EsCS) theory. In the slow rotation approximation, the CS term takes a linear form of rotation parameter $a$ which determines the tachyonic instability. The tachyonic instability for slowly rotating black holes represents the onset of spontaneous scalarization. It is shown that the slowly rotating black holes are unstable against a spherically symmetric scalar-mode perturbation for positive coupling $α$, whereas these bla…
Introducing a new form of scalar potential $V(ϕ)$, we derive a proper form of the rotating black hole solution in three-dimensional Einstein gravity with nonminimally coupled scalar field and find that the first law of thermodynamics of this new rotating hairy black hole can be protected, where the scalar field parameter $B$ is constrained to relate to the black hole size. We also disclose the Hawking-Page phase transition between this rotating hairy black holes and the pure thermal radiation. Moreover, we study phase transitions between this rotating hairy black hole and rotating BTZ black ho…
We continue to explore the dynamics of a heavy quark in a strongly coupled rotating quark-gluon plasma within the holographic framework. We use the 5d Kerr-AdS black hole with two arbitrary rotating parameters to describe the rotating quark-gluon plasma. We present the relations for the drag force acting on the heavy quark both in the rotating- and static-at-infinity frames for arbitrary choice of the rotational parameters. We also calculate the thermal mass of a static quark in different frames and show that at high-$T$ limit the dependence on rotation is suppressed.
In this paper, we consider a rotating heavy quark-antiquark ($q\bar{q}$) pair in a ${\mathcal{N}}$=4 SYM thermal plasma. We assume that $q\bar{q}$ center of mass moves at the speed $v$ and furthermore they rotate around the center of mass. We use the AdS/CFT correspondence and consider the effect of external electromagnetic field on the motion of the rotating meson. Then we calculate the jet-quenching parameter corresponding to the rotating meson in the constant electric field.
We study scalarization of slowly rotating black holes in the Einstein-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet (GB)-Chern-Simons (CS) theory. In the slow rotation approximation of $a\ll1$ with rotation parameter $a$, the GB term is given by a term for Schwarzschild black hole, whereas the CS term takes a linear term of $a$. The tachyonic instability for slowly rotating black holes represents the onset of spontaneous scalarization. We use the (2+1)-dimensional hyperboloidal foliation method to show the tachyonic instability for slowly rotating black holes by considering the time evolution of a spherically symmetric…
We consider rotating wormhole solutions supported by a complex phantom scalar field with a quartic self-interaction, where the phantom field induces the rotation of the spacetime. The solutions are regular and asymptotically flat. A subset of solutions describing static but not spherically symmetric wormholes is also obtained.
Thermal radiation of scalar particles and Dirac fermions from squashed charged rotating five-dimensional black holes is considered. To obtain temperature of the black holes we use the tunnelling method. In case of scalar particles we make use of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation. To consider tunnelling of fermions the Dirac equation was investigated. The examination shows that radial parts of the action for scalar particles and fermions in quasi-classical limit in the vicinity of horizon are almost the same and as a consequence it gives rise to the identical expressions for the temperature in both …
We study the quantum tunneling of scalars from charged accelerating and rotating black hole with NUT parameter. For this purpose we use the charged Klein-Gordon equation. We apply WKB approximation and the Hamilton-Jacobi method to solve charged the Klein-Gordon equation. We find the tunneling probability of outgoing charged scalars from the event horizon of this black hole, and hence the Hawking temperature for this black hole.
We explore the structure of shadow for a Kerr-de Sitter black hole with a non-magnetized, pressureless plasma surrounding it. Specific plasma distributions are considered to separate the Hamilton-Jacobi equation and find the photon regions. An analytic formula describing the boundary curve of the shadow for such a black hole in an expanding universe for an observer at any finite point outside the horizon is derived. We observe deviations which are further explored by calculating the curvature radius at a particular point for such structures in the presence and absence of plasma and calculate t…
We perform the stability analysis of the Kerr black hole in the Einstein-Chern-Simons-Scalar theory with quadratic scalar coupling. For positive coupling parameter ($α>0$), we introduce the (2+1)-dimensional hyperboloidal foliation method to show that the Kerr black hole is unstable against scalar-mode perturbation. In case of $α<0$, it is shown that the Kerr black hole is unstable without any $α$-independent bound on the rotation parameter $a$ when using the the hyperboloidal foliation method. The disappearance of the $a$-bound is confirmed analytically by implementing the (1+1)-dimensional l…
By using the scaling symmetry in the reduced action formalism, we derive the novel Smarr relation which holds even for the hairy rotating AdS_3 black holes. And then, by using the Smarr relation we argue that the hairy rotating AdS_3 black holes are stable thermodynamically, compared to the non-hairy ones.
We derive an exact solution to the Einstein's equations with a stress-energy tensor corresponding to an opposite-sign scalar field, and show that such a solution describes the internal region of a rotating wormhole. We also derive an static wormhole asymptotically flat solution and match them on both regions, thus obtaining an analytic solution for the complete space-time. We explore some of the features of these solutions.
The tachyonic instability of the Kerr black holes is analyzed in the Einstein-scalar theory with the quadratic scalar couplings to two topological terms which are parity-even Gauss-Bonnet and parity-odd Chern-Simons terms. For positive coupling $α$, we use the (2+1)-dimensional hyperboloidal foliation method to derive the threshold curve which is the boundary between stable and unstable Kerr black holes by considering a spherically symmetric scalar-mode perturbation. In case of negative coupling, a newly bound of $a\ge0.26$ with $a$ the rotation parameter is found for unstable Kerr black holes…
The scalar radiation emitted by a source in geodesic circular orbit around a regular Bardeen black hole is analyzed. We use the quantum field theory in curved spacetime framework to obtain the emitted power of radiation by computing the one-particle emission amplitude of scalar particles in the curved background. We compare our results to a similar setting in the spacetime of a Reissner-Nordström black hole.

The massless scalar field in the higher-dimensional Kerr black hole (Myers- Perry solution with a single rotation axis) has been investigated. It has been shown that the field equation is separable in arbitrary dimensions. The quasi-normal modes of the scalar field have been searched in five dimensions using the continued fraction method. The numerical result shows the evidence for the stability of the scalar perturbation of the five-dimensional Kerr black holes. The time scale of the resonant oscillation in the rapidly rotating black hole, in which case the horizon radius becomes small, is ch…
Motivated by novel results in the theory of wave dynamics in black-hole spacetimes, we analyze the dynamics of a massive scalar field surrounding a rapidly rotating Kerr black hole. In particular, we report on the existence of stationary (infinitely long-lived) regular field configurations in the background of maximally rotating black holes. The effective height of these scalar "clouds" above the central black hole is determined analytically. Our results support the possible existence of stationary scalar field dark matter distributions surrounding rapidly rotating black holes.
We investigate the stability of $f(R)$-rotating (Kerr) black hole obtained from a limited form of $f(R)$ gravity. In order to avoid the difficulty of handling fourth order linearized equations, we transform this form of $f(R)$ gravity into the scalar-tensor theory by introducing two auxiliary scalars. In this case, the linearized curvature scalar equation leads to a massive scalaron equation. It turns out that the $f(R)$-rotating black hole is unstable because of the superradiant instability known as the black-hole bomb idea.
The dynamic of string fluctuation under rotating BTZ black hole is studied using the method of \cite{Son:2009vu}. We compare the result with previous computation in \cite{Atmaja:2012jg}, with a different method, for the case of co-rotating string. The result gives definite answer that the end of string identified as an external quark at the boundary behaves as Brownian particle with mass is given an effective mass $M_{eff}$ equal to the zero temperature mass of external quark $M_0$ times Lorentz factor $γ$ to the power three. We also extend the computation for general case of rotating black ho…
Near-extreme Reissner-Nordstrom-anti-de Sitter black holes are unstable against the condensation of an uncharged scalar field with mass close to the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound. It is shown that a similar instability afflicts near-extreme large rotating AdS black holes, and near-extreme hyperbolic Schwarzschild-AdS black holes. The resulting nonlinear hairy black hole solutions are determined numerically. Some stability results for (possibly charged) scalar fields in black hole backgrounds are proved. For most of the extreme black holes we consider, these demonstrate stability if the ``effect…
This is the sequel to the first paper of the series, where we have discussed the Hawking radiation from five-dimensional rotating black holes for spin 0, 1/2 and 1 brane fields in the low frequency regime. We consider the emission of a brane localized scalar field from rotating black holes in general space-time dimensions without relying on the low frequency expansions.
The nonlinear transport features of inhomogeneous chiral plasma in the presence of electromagnetic fields, in rotating coordinates are studied within the relaxation time approach. The chiral distribution functions up to second order in the electric field in rotating coordinates and the derivatives of chemical potentials are established by solving the Boltzmann transport equation. First, the vector and axial current densities in the weakly ionized chiral plasma for vanishing magnetic field are calculated. They involve the rotational analogues of the Hall effect as well as several new terms aris…
We discuss the effects of rotation on confining properties of gauge theories focusing on compact electrodynamics in two spatial dimensions as an analytically tractable model. We show that at finite temperature, the rotation leads to a deconfining transition starting from a certain distance from the rotation axis. A uniformly rotating confining system possesses, in addition to the usual confinement and deconfinement phases, a mixed inhomogeneous phase which hosts spatially separated confinement and deconfinement regions. The phase diagram thus has two different deconfining temperatures. The fir…
Using the Hamilton-Jacobi method of quantum tunneling and complex path integration, we study Hawking radiation of scalar particles from rotating black strings. We discuss tunneling of both charged and uncharged scalar particles from the event horizons. For this purpose, we use the Klein-Gordon equation and find the tunneling probability of outging scalar particles. The procedure gives Hawking temperature for rotating charged black strings as well.
We revisit the problem of the rotating generalization of the Fisher-Janis-Newman-Winicour solution of the minimal Einstein-scalar theory proving that the two previously proposed solutions do not satisfy the equations of motion. We also derive several new spinning solutions with the scalar charge, which are endowed with oblate deformation.
We show the existence of a new gapless collective excitation in a rotating fluid system with chiral fermions, named as the Chiral Vortical Wave (CVW). The CVW has its microscopic origin at the quantum anomaly and macroscopically arises from interplay between vector and axial charge fluctuations induced by vortical effects. The wave equation is obtained both from hydrodynamic current equations and from chiral kinetic theory and its solutions show nontrivial CVW-induced charge transport from different initial conditions. Using the rotating quark-gluon plasma in heavy ion collisions as a concrete…
By exploiting the extreme environment of the black hole (BH) as a potential place for axion-photon interaction, we use an axion-producing model of the magnetized plasma to study the shadow of an asymptotically flat rotating BH immersed into an axion-plasmon cloud. By aiming to reveal footprints of axion in the dark shadow of BH, we in this paper explore the influence of the fixed axion-plasmon background on the motion of incident photons around the rotating BH. Under some free parameter settings, we find that axion-plasmon cloud around rotating BH affects the shape and size of the shadow in su…
Hawking radiation of uncharged and charged scalars from accelerating and rotating black holes is studied. We calculate the tunneling probabilities of these particles from the rotation and acceleration horizons of these black holes. Using the tunneling method we recover the correct Hawking temperature as well.
Non-central heavy ion collisions lead to the production of a quark gluon plasma with angular momentum. We investigate, using holographic AdS/QCD models, how does rotation of the medium affects the confinement/deconfinement transition temperature $T_c$. In holographic models, this transition is represented by a Hawking-Page process involving two asymptotically anti-de Sitter spaces. The plasma is represented here by extending the holographic approach to anti-de Sitter spaces with cylindrical symmetry. Then, the rotation of the medium is introduced through a Lorentz boost. We consider hard and s…
We investigate the stability of higher dimensional rotating black holes against scalar perturbations. In particular, we make a thorough numerical and analytical analysis of six-dimensional black holes, not only in the low rotation regime but in the high rotation regime as well. Our results suggest that higher dimensional Kerr black holes are stable against scalar perturbations, even in the ultra-spinning regime.
We analyze the scalar radiation emitted from a source rotating around a Schwarzschild black hole using the framework of quantum field theory at the tree level. We show that for relativistic circular orbits the emitted power is about 20% to 30% smaller than what would be obtained in Minkowski spacetime. We also show that most of the emitted energy escapes to infinity. Our formalism can readily be adapted to investigate similar processes.
We study scalar perturbations of the five-dimensional rotating black holes and find an exact solution giving exact description of the Hawking radiation. Mathematically, the full solution for this s-wave mode is expressed in terms of the prolate spheroidal wave function with complex parameters. By using the spheroidal joining factor, we write the corresponding boundary condition and greybody factors. We also check that the exact result reproduces the low frequency limit of the greybody factor and shows good agreement with the known numerical results.
We compute the radius of convergence of the linearized relativistic hydrodynamic expansion around a non-trivially rotating strongly coupled N=4 Super-Yang-Mills plasma. Our results show that the validity of hydrodynamics is sustained and can even get enhanced in a highly vortical quark-gluon plasma, such as the one produced in heavy-ion collisions. The hydrodynamic dispersion relations are computed using a rotating background that is an analytic solution of the ideal hydrodynamic equations of motion with non-vanishing angular momentum and large vorticity gradients, giving rise to a particular …
We present numerical simulations for the evolution of an expanding system of massless scalar fields with quartic coupling. By setting a rotating, non-isotropic initial configuration, we compute the energy density, the transverse and longitudinal pressures and the angular momentum of the system. We compare the time scales associated with the isotropization and the decay of the initial angular momentum due to the expansion, and show that even for fairly large initial angular momentum, it decays significantly faster than the pressure anisotropy.
We study the emission of scalars into the bulk from a higher-dimensional rotating black hole. We obtain an analytic solution to the field equation by employing matching techniques on expressions valid in the near-horizon and far-field regimes. Both analytic and numerical results for the absorption probability, in the low-energy and low-angular momentum limit, are derived and found to be in excellent agreement. We also compute the energy emission rate, and show that the brane-to-bulk ratio of the energy emission rates for scalar fields remains always larger than unity in the aforementioned regi…
We show that the rotating asymptotically anti de Sitter black hole solution of new massive gravity in three dimensions can support a static stealth configuration given by a conformally coupled scalar field. By static stealth configuration, we mean a nontrivial time independent scalar field whose energy-momentum tensor vanishes identically on the rotating black hole metric solution of new massive gravity. The existence of this configuration is rendered possible because of the presence of a gravitational hair in the black hole metric that prevents the scalar field to be trivial. In the extremal …
Measurements of the net polarization of $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ hyperons at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) have stimulated much interest in how strange quarks might align their spin with the vorticity of the matter created in heavy ion collisions. We calculate the Lagrangian in the rest frame of a fluid element undergoing rotation with angular velocity $ω$ including photon and gluon fields. There is an additional coupling between the quarks and the gauge fields proportional to $ω$, but this vertex does not change the spin of the quarks. We also show that the times to equilibrate quark heli…
Experiments at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) have measured the net polarization of $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ hyperons and attributed it to a coupling between their spin and the vorticity of the fluid created in heavy ion collisions. Equipartition of energy is generally assumed, but the dynamical mechanism which polarizes them has yet to be determined. We consider two such mechanisms: vorticity fluctuations and helicity flip in scatterings between strange quarks and light quarks and gluons. With reasonable parameters both mechanisms lead to equilibration times orders of magnitude too large t…
The Brownian motion of a heavy quark under a rotating plasma corresponds to BTZ black hole is studied using holographic method from string theory. The position of heavy quark is represented as the end of string at the boundary of BTZ black hole and the corresponding rotating plasma is one dimensional compact space. We requires the angular velocity of the string fluctuation to be equal to the ratio between inner horizon and outer horizon, called terminal angular velocity, which is related to the zero total force condition. We show the displacement square of this solution behaves as a Brownian p…
Effects due to vacuum fluctuations in a semi-classical model of a massless scalar field interacting with a rotating ring are investigated by introducing a collective coordinate for the motion of the background potential. The model is solved for a repulsive periodic $δ$-distribution background of arbitrary strength. The Casimir energy of this system is calculated in the co-rotating and, by Legendre transformation, in the stationary laboratory frame. The zero-point contribution to the angular momentum in this model is bounded below by $|\ell_{ZP}|\leq\hbar/24$ and the ground state of the entire …
