Using the Hamilton-Jacobi method of quantum tunneling and complex path integration, we study Hawking radiation of scalar particles from rotating black strings. We discuss tunneling of both charged and uncharged scalar particles from the event horizons. For this purpose, we use the Klein-Gordon equation and find the tunneling probability of outging scalar particles. The procedure gives Hawking temperature for rotating charged black strings as well.
Thermal radiations from spherically symmetric black holes have been studied from the point of view of quantum tunneling. In this paper we extend this approach to study radiation of fermions from charged and rotating black strings. Using WKB approximation and Hamilton-Jacobi method we work out the tunneling probabilities of incoming and outgoing fermions and find the correct Hawking temperature for these objects. We show that in appropriate limits the results reduce to those for the uncharged and non-rotating black strings.
Hawking radiation from black holes has been studied as a phenomenon of quantum tunneling of particles through their horizons. We have extended this approach to study the tunneling of Dirac particles from a large class of black holes which includes those with acceleration and rotation as well. We have calculated the tunneling probability of incoming and outgoing particles, and recovered the correct Hawking temperature by this method.
We study Hawking radiation of charged fermions from accelerating and rotation black holes with electric and magnetic charges. We calculate the tunneling probabilities of incoming and outgoing fermionic particles and find the Hawking temperature of these black holes. We also provide an explicit expression of the classical action for the massive and massless particles in the background of these black holes.
Hawking radiation of uncharged and charged scalars from accelerating and rotating black holes is studied. We calculate the tunneling probabilities of these particles from the rotation and acceleration horizons of these black holes. Using the tunneling method we recover the correct Hawking temperature as well.
We study the AdS rotating black hole solution for the Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend (BHT) massive gravity in three dimensions. The field equations of the asymptotically AdS black hole of the static metric can be expressed as the first law of thermodynamics, i.e. $dE=TdS-PdV$. The corrected Hawking-like temperature and entropy of asymptotically AdS rotating black hole are calculated using the Cardy formula and the tunneling method. Comparison of these methods will help identify the unknown leading correction parameter $β_1$ in the tunneling method.
In the present paper, the quantum corrections to the temperature, entropy and specific heat capacity of the charged non-rotating BTZ black hole are studied by generalized uncertainty principle in tunneling formalism. It is shown that quantum corrected entropy would be of the form of predicted entropy in quantum gravity theories like string theory and loop quantum gravity.
The behavior of a scalar field theory near the event horizon in a rotating black hole background can be effectively described by a two dimensional field theory in a gauge field background. Based on this fact, we proposal that the quantum tunneling from rotating black hole can be treated as "charged" particle' s tunneling process in its effectively two dimensional metric. Using this viewpoint and considering the corresponding "gauge charge" conservation, we calculate the non-thermal tunneling rate of Kerr black hole and Myers-Perry black hole, and results are consistent with Parikh-Wilczek's or…
In the tunneling framework of Hawking radiation, charged massive particle's tunneling in charged non-rotating TeV-Scale black hole is investigated. To this end, we consider natural cutoffs as a minimal length, a minimal momentum, and a maximal momentum through a generalized uncertainty principle. We focus on the role played by these natural cutoffs on the luminosity of charged non-rotating micro black hole by taking into account the full implications of energy and charge conservation as well as the back- scattered radiation.
The tunneling method for the Hawking radiation is revisited and applied to the $D$ dimensional rotating case. Emphasis is given to covariance of results. Certain ambiguities afflicting the procedure are resolved.
The issue concerning semi-classical methods recently developed in deriving the conditions for Hawking radiation as tunneling, is revisited and applied also to rotating black hole solutions as well as to the extremal cases. It is noticed how the tunneling method fixes the temperature of extremal black hole to be zero, unlike the Euclidean regularity method that allows an arbitrary compactification period. A comparison with other approaches is presented.
We investigate the decay of current on a superconducting cosmic string through quantum tunneling. We construct the instanton describing tunneling in a simple bosonic string model, and estimate the decay rate. The tunneling rate vanishes in the limit of a chiral current. This conclusion, which is supported by a symmetry argument, is expected to apply in general. It has important implications for the stability of chiral vortons.
We explore via linearized perturbation theory the Gregory-Laflamme instability of rotating black strings with equal magnitude angular momenta. Our results indicate that the Gregory-Laflamme instability persists up to extremality for all even dimensions between six and fourteen. We construct rotating nonuniform black strings with two equal magnitude angular momenta in six dimensions. We see a first indication for the occurrence of a topology changing transition, associated with such rotating nonuniform black strings. Charged nonuniform black string configurations in heterotic string theory are …
We compute the spectrum of excitations of the rotating Nambu-Goto string with masses at the ends. We find interesting quasi-massless modes in the limit of slow rotation and comment on the nontrivial relation between world-sheet and target space energy.
We formulate the Rindler space description of rotating black holes in string theories. We argue that the comoving frame is the natural frame for studying thermodynamics of rotating black holes and statistical analysis of rotating black holes gets simplified in this frame. We also calculate statistical entropies of general class of rotating black holes in heterotic strings on tori by applying D-brane description and the correspondence principle. We find at least qualitative agreement between the Bekenstein-Hawking entropies and the statistical entropies of these black hole solutions.
We construct a new class of charged rotating black string solutions coupled to a nonlinear electromagnetic field in the background of anti-de Sitter spaces. We consider two types of nonlinear electromagnetic field namely, logarithmic and exponential forms. We investigate the geometric effects of nonlinearity parameter and find that for large $r$, these solutions recover the rotating back string solutions of Einstein-Maxwell theory. We calculate the conserved and thermodynamic quantities of the rotating black string. We also analyze thermodynamics of the spacetime and verify the validity of the…
Hawking radiation has been studied as a phenomenon of quantum tunneling in different black holes. In this paper we extend this semi-classical approach to cylindrically symmetric black holes. Using the Hamilton-Jacobi method and WKB approximation we calculate the tunneling probabilities of incoming and outgoing Dirac particles from the event horizon and find the Hawking temperature of these black holes. We obtain results both for uncharged as well as charged particles.
Einstein-Maxwell equations with a cosmological constant are analyzed in a four dimensional stationary spacetime admitting in addition a two dimensional group $G_2$ of spatial isometries. Charged rotating open and closed black string solutions are found.
We analyze rigidly rotating Nambu--Goto strings in the Kerr spacetime, particularly focusing on the strings sticking in the horizon. From the regularity on the horizon, we find the condition for sticking in the horizon, which is consistent with the second law of the black hole thermodynamics. Energy extraction through the sticking string from a Kerr black hole occurs. We obtain the maximum value of the luminosity of the energy extraction.
In the Randall-Sundrum two-brane model (RS1), a Kerr black hole on the brane can be naturally identified with a section of rotating black string. To estimate Kaluza-Klein (KK) corrections on gravitational waves emitted by perturbed rotating black strings, we give the effective Teukolsky equation on the brane which is separable equation and hence numerically manageable. In this process, we derive the master equation for the electric part of the Weyl tensor $E_{μν}$ which would be also useful to discuss the transition from black strings to localized black holes triggered by Gregory-Laflamme inst…
We study the quantum tunneling of scalars from charged accelerating and rotating black hole with NUT parameter. For this purpose we use the charged Klein-Gordon equation. We apply WKB approximation and the Hamilton-Jacobi method to solve charged the Klein-Gordon equation. We find the tunneling probability of outgoing charged scalars from the event horizon of this black hole, and hence the Hawking temperature for this black hole.
Using the null-geodesic tunneling method of Parikh and Wilczek, we derive the Hawking temperature of a general four-dimensional rotating black hole. In order to eliminate the motion of $ϕ$ degree of freedom of a tunneling particle, we have chosen a reference system that is co-rotating with the black hole horizon. Then we give the explicit result for the Hawking temperature of the Kerr-Newman-AdS black hole from the tunneling approach.
We investigate flux vacua on a variety of one-parameter Calabi-Yau compactifications, and find many examples that are connected through continuous monodromy transformations. For these, we undertake a detailed analysis of the tunneling dynamics and find that tunneling trajectories typically graze the conifold point---particular 3-cycles are forced to contract during such vacuum transitions. Physically, these transitions arise from the competing effects of minimizing the energy for brane nucleation (facilitating a change in flux), versus the energy cost associated with dynamical changes in the p…
We calculate emission rates of a massless state from a highly excited rotating string in perturbative bosonic open string theory. By averaging huge degeneracies of initial string states with specifying the mass and a single component of the angular momentum, we find thermal spectrum in a wide range of the angular momentum. We derive the temperature that characterizes the thermal spectrum from the partition function of a single rotating string from which we also find the entropy and the angular velocity of rotating strings. We also argue based on these quantities the Horowitz-Polchinski corresp…
The standard Hawking formula predicts the complete evaporation of black holes. Taking into account effects of quantum gravity, we investigate fermions' tunnelling from a 5-dimensional rotating black string. The temperature is determined not only by the string, but also affected by the quantum number of the emitted fermion and the effect of the extra spatial dimension. The quantum correction slows down the increase of the temperature, which naturally leads to the remnant in the evaporation.
In this paper we study the classical dynamics of long strings in AdS3, generalizing our previous study, arXiv:1410.3424 [hep-th], to rotating strings and BTZ black holes. As in the non-rotating case, BTZ black holes are generated in the large tension limit, in which string back-reaction must be taken into account. When back-reaction is properly accounted for, collapsing heavy, physical, rotating strings do not generate naked singularities but only BTZ black holes, including extremal ones. The rotating string must contain world-sheet excitations in order to have consistent equations of motion; …
We study stationary string configurations in a space-time of a higher-dimensional rotating black hole. We demonstrate that the Nambu-Goto equations for a stationary string in the 5D Myers-Perry metric allow a separation of variables. We present these equations in the first-order form and study their properties. We prove that the only stationary string configuration which crosses the infinite red-shift surface and remains regular there is a principal Killing string. A worldsheet of such a string is generated by a principal null geodesic and a timelike at infinity Killing vector field. We obtain…
We consider vacuum tunneling of a new kind where the false vacua are not translationally invariant, but have topological defects that break some of their translational symmetries. In the particular case where the topological defects are cosmic strings, we show the existence of an O(2) \times O(2) symmetric bounce configuration that allows a semi-classical estimate of the rate of cosmic string induced tunneling. A method of reduction is then suggested for simplifying the computation of the bounce action. Some phenomenological applications are described.
In this short report, we investigate the mutual information hidden in the Parikh-Wilczek tunneling model of Hawking radiation for Kerr-Newman black holes. By assuming the radiation as an optimization process, we discuss its effect on time evolution of rotating (charged and uncharged) black holes. For uncharged rotating black holes evaporating under the maximum mutual information optimization, their scale invariant rotation parameter $a_*=a/M$ is almost constant at the early stage but rapidly increase at the very last stage of the evaluation process. The value of rotation parameter at the final…
We probe the open fundamental strings in Dp-brane (p=1, 3, 5) backgrounds and find new classes of rotating and orbiting string solutions. We show that for various worldsheet embedding ansatz we get solutions of the string equations of motion that correspond to the well known giant magnon and single spikes, in addition to few new solutions corresponding to the orbiting strings. We make a systematic study of both rigidly rotating and orbiting strings in D1, D3 and D5-brane backgrounds.
Boundary conditions and gluing conditions for open strings and D-branes in the $SL(2,R)$ WZWN model, corresponding to $AdS_3$, are discussed. Some boundary conditions and gluing conditions previously considered in the literature are shown to be incompatible with the variation principle. We then consider open string boundary conditions corresponding to a certain {\it field-dependent} gluing condition. This allows us to consider open strings with constant energy and angular momentum. Classically, these open strings naturally generalize the open strings in flat Minkowski space. For rigidly rotati…
We study the Gregory-Laflamme instability of a 5-dimensional slowly rotating black string in which the 4-dimensional section is described by the Kerr black hole. We treat the rotation in a perturbative way introducing a small parameter for the rotation. It is found that rotation makes the Gregory-Laflamme instability stronger. Both the critical wavelength at the onset of instability and the growth time-scale are found to decrease as the rotation increases.
Structure of spinning particle based on the rotating black hole solution is considered. It has gyromagnetic ratio $g=2$ and a nontrivial twistorial and stringy systems. The mass and spin appear from excitations of the Kerr circular string, while the Dirac equation describes excitations of an {\it axial} stringy system which is responsible for scattering. Complex Kerr geometry contains an open twistor-string, target space of which is equivalent to the Witten's `diagonal' of the $ CP^3\times CP^{*3}$.
In the spacetime induced by a rotating cosmic string we compute the energy levels of a massive spinless particle coupled covariantly to a homogeneous magnetic field parallel to the string. Afterwards, we consider the addition of a scalar potential with a Coulomb-type and a linear confining term and completely solve the Klein-Gordon equations for each configuration. Finally, assuming rigid-wall boundary conditions, we find the Landau levels when the linear defect is itself magnetized. Remarkably, our analysis reveals that the Landau quantization occurs even in the absence of gauge fields provid…
A rotating black hole threaded by an infinitely long cosmic string is studied in the framework of the Abelian Higgs model. We show that contrary to a common belief, in the presence of rotation the backreaction of the string does not induce a simple conical deficit. This leads to new distinct features of the Kerr--string system such as modified ISCO or shifted ergosphere, though these effects are likely outside the range of observational precision. For an extremal rotating black hole, the system exhibits a first-order phase transition for the gravitational Meissner effect: whereas the horizon o…
Recently the modified Dirac equation with Lorentz invariance violation has been proposed, which would be helpful to resolve some issues in quantum gravity theory and high energy physics. In this paper, the modified Dirac equation has been generalized in curved spacetime, and then fermion tunneling of black strings is researched under this correctional Dirac field theory. We also use semi-classical approximation method to get correctional Hamilton-Jacobi equation, so that the correctional Hawking temperature and correctional black hole's entropy are derived.
A rotating charged black string solution in the low energy effective field theory describing five dimensional heterotic string theory is constructed. The solution is labelled by mass, electric charge, axion charge and angular momentum per unit length. The extremal limit of this solution is also studied.
We describe time-dependent tunneling of massless particles in 1+1 dimensional string field theory. Polchinski's description of the classical solutions in terms of the Fermi sea is used to identify the leading instanton contribution connecting the two half-lines. The field theory lagrangian is proportional to $1/g^2$, where $g$ is the string coupling constant, but the $S$-matrix for tunneling from one half-line to the other behaves as $\exp(-C/g)$. We note the constant~$C$ involves curious boundary contributions and observe that a prescription connecting the two half-lines unifies treatments of…
In this paper, we show that a rigidly rotating string can extract the rotational energy from a rotating black hole. We consider Nambu-Goto strings stationary with respect to a corotating Killing vector with an uniform angular velocity $ω$ in the Kerr spacetime. We show that a necessary condition of the energy-extraction process is that an effective horizon on the string world sheet, which corresponds to the inner light surface, is inside the ergosphere of the Kerr black hole and the angular velocity $ω$ is less than that of the black hole $Ω_\mathrm{h}$. Furthermore, we discuss global configur…
We study solutions for rigidly rotating strings on AdS$_4 \times$ CP$^3$ in the presence of $B_{\rm NS}$ holonomy turned on over $CP^1 \subset CP^3$. We construct general solutions for rotating strings with two and three angular momenta in $CP^3$ and discuss various limits corresponding to giant magnon and spike like solutions.
We study semiclassical rotating strings in AdS/CFT backgrounds that exhibit both confinement and finite-size effects. The energy versus spin dispersion relation for short strings is the expected Regge trajectory behaviour, with the same string tension as is measured by the Wilson loop. Long strings probe the interplay between confinement and finite-size effects. In particular, the dispersion relation for long strings shows a characteristic dependence on the string tension and the finite-size scale.
We construct exact solutions, which represent regular charged rotating Kaluza-Klein multi-black holes in the five-dimensional pure Einstein-Maxwell theory. Quantization conditions between the mass, the angular momentum, and charges appear from the regularity condition of horizon. We also obtain multi-black string solutions by taking some limits in the solutions. We extend the black hole solutions to the five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory with an arbitrary Chern-Simons coupling constant.
We study rigidly rotating strings in the $\varkappa$-deformed $AdS_3 \times S^3$ background. We find out two classes of solutions corresponding to the giant magnon and single spike solutions of the string rotating in two $S^2_{\varkappa}$ subspace of rotations reduced along two different isometries. We verify that the dispersion relations reduce to the well known relation in the $\varkappa\rightarrow 0$ limit. We further study some oscillating string solutions in the $S^3_{\varkappa}$ subspace.
We study the breaking of an Abelian symmetry close to the horizon of an uncharged rotating Anti-de Sitter black string in 3+1 dimensions. The boundary theory living on R^2 x S^1 has no rotation, but a magnetic field that is aligned with the axis of the black string. This boundary theory decribes non-rotating (2+1)-dimensional holographic superfluids with non-vanishing superfluid velocity. We study these superfluids in the grand canonical ensemble and show that for sufficiently small angular momentum of the dual black string and sufficiently small superfluid velocity the phase transition is 2nd…
We construct classical rotating solutions of Non-relativistic String Theory. The relation among the energy and angular momenta for these solutions is of the type E=J^2. Some of the solutions saturate a BPS bound for the energy, they are 1/4 BPS supersymmetric configurations.
We study the production cross section of a highly excited string with fixed angular momentum from an ultra-high energy collision of two light strings. We find that the cross section exhibits geometric behavior in a certain region of angular-momentum/impact-parameter space. This geometric behavior is common to the differential cross sections of a black hole production with fixed angular momentum and thus we see another correspondence between strings and black holes.
In this work, we present the effect of a probe string on the complexity of a black hole according to the CA (Complexity equals action) conjecture on Horndeski's gravity. In our system, we consider a particle moving on the boundary of black hole spacetime in ($2+1$)-dimensions. To obtain a dual description, we need to insertion a fundamental string on the bulk spacetime. The effect of this string is given by the Nambu-Goto term. For the Nambu-Goto term, we can analyze the time development of this system, which is affected by the parameters of Horndeski's gravity. In our case, we show some inter…
We study rigidly rotating strings in AdS5 X S5 background with one spin along AdS5 and three angular momenta along S5. We find dispersion relations among various charges and interpret them as giant magnon and spiky string solutions in various limits. Further we present an example of oscillating string which oscillates in the radial direction of the AdS5 and at the same time rotates in S5.
Rotating IIB strings in AdS_5 x S^5 become ultra-relativistic, and hence effectively tensionless, in the limit of large angular momentum on S^5. We have shown previously that such tensionless strings may preserve supersymmetry. Here we extend this result to include a class of supersymmetric tensionless strings with arbitrary SO(6) angular momentum. We close with some general comments on tensionless strings in AdS_5 x S^5.
We consider rotating strings and D2-branes on type IIA background, which arises as dimensional reduction of M-theory on manifold of G2 holonomy, dual to N=1 gauge theory in four dimensions. We obtain exact solutions and explicit expressions for the conserved charges. By taking the semiclassical limit, we show that the rotating strings can reproduce only one type of semiclassical behavior, exhibited by rotating M2-branes on G2 manifolds. Our further investigation leads to the conclusion that the rotating D2-branes reproduce two types of the semiclassical energy-charge relations known for membra…
In this paper, we study the spin chain and string excitation in the rotating Rindler-$AdS_3$ proposed in [12]. We obtain a one-parameter deformed $SL(2)$ spin chain at the fast spin limit. Two-spin GKP-like solutions are studied at short and long string limits. General ansatz for the giant magnons and the spiky strings are analyzed in detail for various $β$. At last, we explore its counterpart in analytic continuation and pp-wave limit.
In this paper we study the motion of a rigidly rotating Nambu-Goto test string in a stationary axisymmetric background spacetime. As special examples we consider the rigid rotation of strings in flat spacetime, where explicit analytic solutions can be obtained, and in the Kerr spacetime where we find an interesting new family of test string solutions. We present a detailed classification of these solutions in the Kerr background.
To explore the possible clues for the extra dimension from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) observations, we study the shadow of the rotating 5D black string in General Relativity (GR). Instead of investigating the shadow in the effective 4D theory, we concern the motion of photons along the extra dimension $z$ with a conserved momentum $P_z$, which appears as an effective mass in the geodesic equations of photons. The existence of $P_z$ enlarges the photon regions and the shadow of the rotating 5D black string while it has slight impact on the distortion. The EHT observations of M87* and Sgr…
We derive the wave equation for a minimally coupled scalar field in the background of a general rotating five-dimensional black hole. It is written in a form that involves two types of thermodynamic variables, defined at the inner and outer event horizon, respectively. We model the microscopic structure as an effective string theory, with the thermodynamic properties of the left and right moving excitations related to those of the horizons. Previously known solutions to the wave equation are generalized to the rotating case, and their regime of validity is sharpened. We calculate the greybody …
We study stationary slowly rotating black holes, up to quadratic order in the spin angular momentum, in dynamical Chern-Simons gravity and shift symmetric Einstein scalar Gauss-Bonnet gravity, as models of string-inspired gravities. These gravity theories modify general relativity by introducing dynamical scalar fields coupled with curvature invariants. We show that the linear time dependence of the scalar fields is allowed from the stationarity of the effective stress energy tensors. However, these time dependent scalar fields yield singular behavior of the metric functions at the black hole …
We construct the non-BPS black brane representation from the Kerr metric using the U-duality and symmetries in string or M-theory. We give the general rule to get the brane configuration and we apply it especially for Kerr metric. We find the three charged solution in M-theory and after the compactification it becomes rotating black string solution in five dimension. We also find the four charged solution containing the pp-wave in M-theory, and we can find charged dilaton rotating black hole solution in four dimension after the torus compactification. This solution has the other representation…
We study the non-inertial effects on the covariant DKP equation in the curved space-time of a cosmic string. The calculations are done in the presence of a magnetic vector potential in the Coulomb gauge and the analytical solutions for the modified spectrum of the system are reported.
We construct a solution of the classical equations of motion arising in the low energy effective field theory for heterotic string theory. This solution describes a black hole in four dimensions carrying mass $M$, charge $Q$ and angular momentum $J$. The extremal limit of the solution is discussed.
We derive a class of charged rotating dilaton black string solutions in the background of anti-de-Sitter spaces with an appropriate combination of three Liouville-type dilaton potentials. We also present the suitable counterterm which removes the divergences of the action in the presence of dilaton potential. The solutions are analyzed and their thermodynamics is discussed by using the counterterm method.
