The inclusive $J/Ψ$, $Ψ(2S)$ and $Υ(1S)$ direct and resolved photoproduction are investigated by including the quark subprocesses in the framework of non-relativistic quantum chromodynamics (NRQCD). We find that the theoretical total cross section of heavy quarkonium productions are in good agreement with the data available at HERA, once the $γq$, $qg$ and $qq$ subprocesses in the heavy quark pair productions are taken into account. The inclusive diffractive rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of $J/Ψ$, $Ψ(2S)$ and $Υ(1S)$ in $pp$, $pPb$ and $PbPb$ collisions at LHC are also studied by our quark improved NRQCD model combined with the resolved pomeron model. We find that the contributions from the quark involved subprocesses can reach to $8\%$ in the rapidity distribution and $6\%$ in the transverse momentum distribution. The numerical results show that the contributions from quark involved subprocesses are significant in heavy quarkonium photoprodution.
The rates for diffractive quarkonium plus prompt-photon associated production at the LHC are estimated. The theoretical framework considered in the J/Psi (or Upsilon) production associated with a direct photon at the hadron collider is the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism. The corresponding single diffractive cross section is computed based on the hard diffractive scattering factorization supplemented by absorptive corrections. Such processes are sensitive to the gluon content of the Pomeron at small Bjorken-x and they may also be a good place to test the different availabl…
In this paper we study the inclusive and diffractive double quarkonium production. Based on the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism for the quarkonium production mechanism we estimate the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of the cross section for the $J/ΨJ/Ψ$ and $ΥΥ$ production in diffractive processes at LHC energies. The contributions of the color-singlet and color-octet channels are estimated and predictions for the total cross sections in the kinematical regions of the LHC experiments are also presented. Our results demonstrate that the contribution of diffractiv…
The inclusive $J/Ψ$ production by direct and resolved photoproduction in the $γ$p scattering is calculated based on the nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics (NRQCD) factorization formalism, which is in good agreement with the experimental data of total cross section distribution of heavy quarkonium production at HERA. Then we extend the formalism including the direct and resolved photoproduction processes to resolved pomeron model to study the heavy quarkonium photoproduction at the LHC energies. We present the predictions of rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of the inclusive di…
We study the diffractive photo- and leptoproductions of $J / ψ$ and $ψ'$ on the proton, and examine the validity of the small-size color dipole approximation to the production of radially excited heavy quarkonium. The dipole model predicts a small ratio of $ψ'$ to $J / ψ$ photoproduction cross sections, which does not agree with experimental data. We show that this discrepancy originates from a large transverse size of $ψ'$ which makes the convergence of the transverse size expansion questionable, and the calculation without the dipole approximation turns out to be consistent with the data. Pr…
We study the hard color dipole-nucleon cross section within perturbative QCD and discuss its relation to observables in diffractive leptoproduction of heavy quarkonium. The dipole cross section calculated with the unintegrated gluon density of the nucleon substantially differs from the well-known perturbative form $σ_{dip} \sim b^2$ for $b > 0.3$fm, where $b$ is the transverse separation of the dipole. We show the measured ratio of $ψ'$ to $J / ψ$ photoproduction cross sections constrains the dipole cross section at intermediate $b$, and in fact excludes the simple $σ_{dip} \sim b^2$ behavior.…
The double quarkonium production in single and double diffractive processes is investigated considering $pp$ collisions at the Run 2 LHC energy. Using the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism for the quarkonium production and the Resolved Pomeron model to describe the diffractive processes, we estimate the rapidity and transverse momentum dependencies of the cross sections for the $J/ΨJ/Ψ$ and $ΥΥ$ production. The contributions of the color-singlet and color-octet channels are estimated and predictions for the total cross sections in the kinematical regions of the LHC experiment…
Hard diffractive photo- and electroproduction of heavy vector mesons ($J/ψ$ and $Υ$) is evaluated within the leading $α_s\ln{Q^2 \overΛ_{QCD}^2}$ approximation of QCD. In difference from our earlier work on that subject, also the production of transversely polarized vector mesons is calculated. Special emphasis is placed on the role of the vector meson's $q\bar q$ light-cone wave function. In that context, conventional non-relativistic quarkonium models and a light-front QCD bound state calculation are critically examined and confronted with QCD expectations. Our numerical analysis finds a sig…
The production of a quarkonium -- pair in exclusive and diffractive processes in $pp$ collisions at the LHC and FCC energies is investigated. We consider the $J/ΨJ/Ψ$ and $ΥΥ$ production in these processes and present predictions for the transverse momentum and rapidity distributions considering the kinematical ranges expected to be covered by central and forward detectors. Results for the cross sections are also presented. Our results indicate that the double $J/Ψ$ production is dominated by the exclusive process, while the double $Υ$ production receive a large contribution of the diffractive…
We present a study of heavy quarkonium production in hard diffractive process by the Pomeron exchange for Tevatron and LHC energies. The numerical results are computed using recent experimental determination of the diffractive parton density functions in Pomeron and are corrected by unitarity corrections through gap survival probability factor. We give predictions for single as well as central diffractive ratios. These processes are sensitive to the gluon content of the Pomeron at small Bjorken-x and may be particularly useful in studying the small-x physics. They may also be a good place to t…
The inclusive diffractive quarkonium photoproduction in $pp$ and $pA$ collisions is investigated considering the Resolved Pomeron Model to describe the diffractive interaction. We estimate the rapidity and transverse momentum distributions for the $J/Ψ$, $Ψ(2S)$ and $Υ$ photoproduction in hadronic collisions at the LHC and present our estimate for the total cross sections at the Run 2 energies. A comparison with the predictions associated to the exclusive production also is presented. Our results indicate that the inclusive diffractive production is a factor $\gtrsim 10$ smaller than the exclu…
In this paper we propose the study of the diffractive quarkonium photoproduction in $pp$ collisions at LHC energies to probe the photon flux associated to a ultrarelativistic proton. The total photon distribution is expected to be given in terms of the elastic and inelastic components. Distinctly from the elastic photon component which can be determined from the elastic form factors, the magnitude of the inelastic component still is an open question. We consider the current parametrizations for the photon distribution of a proton and estimate the rapidity distributions and total cross sections…
We propose a new approach for the Higgs boson production by Double Pomeron Exchange (DPE) in the Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering, where a color dipole interacts diffractively with the proton by DPE. Applying it to Peripheral Collisions, we predict a cross section around 0.1 fb, which is similar to that obtained from the $γγ$ subprocess. Although this result is lower than the prediction from the KMR approach, our results are competitive with the $γγ$ and Pomeron-Pomeron subprocesses with a more precise proposal for the Gap Survival Probability.
We extend the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) prediction for the production of heavy quarkonium with low transverse momentum in hadronic collisions by taking into account effects from all order soft gluon resummation. Following the Collins-Soper-Sterman formalism, we resum the most singular terms in the partonic subprocesses. The theoretical predictions of $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ productions are compared to the experimental data from the fixed target experiments (E866) and the collider experiments (RHIC, Tevatron, LHC). The associated non-perturbative Sudakov form factor for the gluon distributions is foun…
We investigate the momentum transfer dependence of differential cross sections $dσ/dt$ in diffractive electroproduction of heavy quarkonia on proton targets. Model predictions for $dσ/dt$ within the light-front QCD dipole formalism are based on a realistic model for a proper correlation between the impact parameter $\vec b$ of a collision and color dipole orientation $\vec r$. We demonstrate a significance of $\vec b-\vec r$ correlation by comparing with a standard simplification $\vec{b}\parallel\vec{r}$, frequently used in the literature.
We propose a novel mechanism for exclusive diffractive Higgs production $pp \to p H p $ in which the Higgs boson carries a significant fraction of the projectile proton momentum. This mechanism will provide a clear experimental signal for Higgs production due to the small background in this kinematic region. The key assumption underlying our analysis is the presence of intrinsic heavy flavor components of the proton bound state, whose existence at high light-cone momentum fraction $x$ has growing experimental and theoretical support. We also discuss the implications of this picture for exclusi…
We discuss diffractive production of heavy mesons at the LHC. The differential cross sections for single- and central-diffractive mechanisms for $c\bar c$ pair production are calculated in the framework of the Ingelman-Schlein model corrected for absorption effects. Here, leading-order gluon-gluon fusion and quark-antiquark anihilation partonic subprocesses are taken into consideration. Both pomeron flux factors as well as parton distributions in the pomeron are taken from the H1 Collaboration analysis of diffractive structure function and diffractive dijets at HERA. The extra corrections from…
In this paper, we investigate the inclusive diffractive hadroproduction for $\rm η_{c}$ and $\rm η_{b}$ at the LHC energies. Based on the NRQCD factorization formalism and the resolved-Pomeron model for the quarkonium production mechanism, we estimate the rapidity, momentum fraction loss dependence of the cross section. We give prediction ratios for single and central diffractive processes with respect to non diffractive process. These inclusive processes are sensitive to gluon content of Pomeron for small-$x$ and Reggeon for large-$x$, useful to study small and large-$x$ physics and good to t…
Our goal is the study of color effects on the $J/ψ$ and $D$ mesons production, as well as the study of their elastic production. We use the Color Evaporation Model (CEM), where a single factor takes into account the probability that the $c\bar{c}$ produced in a color octet state turns into a physical (colorless) quarkonium or continues as a color octet, producing open charm. The main result of this work, besides investigating the range of applicability of the CEM, is to show that this model can be used to describe the elastic processes of $J/ψ$ and open charm photoproduction without the use of…
Hard processes in diffractive deep-inelastic scattering can be described by a factorisation into parton-level subprocesses and diffractive parton distributions. In this framework, cross sections for inclusive dijet production in diffractive deep-inelastic electron-proton scattering (DIS) are computed to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD accuracy and compared to a comprehensive selection of data. Predictions for the total cross sections, 39 single-differential and four double-differential distributions for six measurements at HERA by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations are calculated. In the …
We investigate the inclusive hadroproduction of a heavy quarkonium ($J/ψ$ or $Υ$), in association with a light-flavored jet, as a testing ground for the semi-hard regime of QCD. Our theoretical setup is the hybrid high-energy and collinear factorization, where the standard collinear approach is supplemented by the $t$-channel resummation of leading and next-to-leading energy logarithms à la BFKL. We present predictions for rapidity and azimuthal-angle differential distributions, hunting for stabilizing effects of the high-energy series under higher-order corrections. Our reaction represents an…
In this paper we study the double $J/ψ$ production in central diffractive processes considering the Resolved Pomeron model. Based on the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism for the quarkonium production mechanism we estimate the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of the cross section for the double $J/ψ$ production in diffractive processes at LHC energies. The contributions of the color-singlet and color-octet channels are estimated and predictions for the total cross sections in the kinematical regions of the LHC experiments are also presented. Our results demonstrate…
We discuss heavy quark and quarkonium production in various kinematic regions at the HERA ep collider. In contrast to fixed target experiments, collider kinematics allows the possibility of detailed measurements of particle production in the proton fragmentation region. One thus can study parton correlations in the proton Fock states materialized by the virtual photon probe. We discuss various configurations of inelastic electron-proton scattering, including peripheral, diffractive, and deep inelastic processes. In particular, we show that intrinsic heavy quark Fock states can be identified by…
We analyze the validity of a commonly used identification between structures of the virtual photon $γ^*\to Q\bar Q$ and vector meson $V\to Q\bar Q$ transitions. In the existing studies of $S$-wave vector-meson photoproduction in the literature, such an identification is typically performed in the light-front (LF) frame while the radial component of the meson wave function is rather postulated than computed from the first principles. The massive photon-like $V\to Q\bar Q$ vertex, besides the $S$-wave component, also contains an extra $D$-wave admixture in the $Q\bar Q$ rest frame. However, the …
We propose a new approach to the problem of rapidity gap survival (RGS) in the production of high-mass systems (H = dijet, heavy quarkonium, Higgs boson) in double-gap exclusive diffractive pp scattering, pp -> p + (gap) + H + (gap) + p. It is based on the idea that hard and soft interactions proceed over widely different time- and distance scales and are thus approximately independent. The high-mass system is produced in a hard scattering process with exchange of two gluons between the protons. Its amplitude is calculable in terms of the gluon generalized parton distributions (GPDs) in the pr…
The ensemble of light-cone Fock wavefunctions $\{ψ_{n/H}(x_i,\vec k_{\perp i},λ_i)\}$ provides a conceptual basis for representing physical hadrons and nuclei in terms of their fundamental quark and gluon degrees of freedom. A number of applications of the light-cone formalism to QCD phenomenology are briefly reviewed, such as the origin of Regge behavior of polarized structure functions, the high momentum transfer behavior of exclusive reactions, the color transparency properties of diffractive vector meson photoproduction, and the behavior of quark distributions at large $x_{bj}$. The light-…
The differential cross section $dσ/dq^2$ of diffractive electroproduction of heavy quarkonia on protons is a sensitive study tool for the interaction dynamics within the dipole representation. Knowledge of the transverse momentum transfer $\vec q$ provides a unique opportunity to identify the reaction plane, due to a strong correlation between the directions of $\vec q$ and impact parameter $\vec b$. On top of that, the elastic dipole-proton amplitude is subject to a strong correlation between $\vec b$ and dipole orientation $\vec r$. Most of models for $b$-dependent dipole cross section eithe…
Heavy quarkonium production in ultra-peripheral nuclear collisions (UPC) is described within the QCD dipole formalism. Realistic quarkonium wave functions in the $Q\bar Q$ rest frame are calculated by solving the Schrödinger equation with a subsequent Lorentz boost to high energy. We rely on several realistic $Q\bar Q$ potentials, which allow to describe well the quarkonium masses and decay widths, as well as data on diffractive electroproduction of quarkonia on protons. Nuclear effects are calculated with the phenomenological dipole cross sections fitted to DIS data. The higher twist quark sh…
In this contribution, we study the inclusive and diffractive $η_{c}$ photoproduction in $pp$ and $pPb$ ultra-peripheral collisions (UPC's) at the LHC Run 2 energies. The quarkonium production is studied using nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics (NRQCD) formalism. We present predictions for rapidity and transverse momentum distributions for the $η_c$ photoproduction and present our estimate for the total cross sections at the Run 2 energies.

In view of possible photoproduction studies in ultraperipheral heavy-ion collisions at the LHC, we briefly review the present theoretical understanding of photons and hard photoproduction processes at HERA, discussing the production of jets, light and heavy hadrons, quarkonia, and prompt photons. We address in particular the extraction of the strong coupling constant from photon structure function and inclusive jet measurements, the infrared safety and computing time of jet definitions, the sensitivity of dijet cross sections on the parton densities in the photon, factorization breaking in dif…
Heavy quarks provide a new dimension to QCD, allowing tests of fundamental theory, the nature of color confinement, and the production of new exotic multiquark states. I also discuss novel explanations for several apparently anomalous experimental results, such as the large $t \bar t$ forward-backward asymmetry observed in $p \bar p$ colisions at the Tevatron, the large rates for $γ$ or $Z$ plus high-$p_T$ charm jets observed at the Tevatron, the strong nuclear absorption of the $J/ψ$ observed in $pA$ collisions at the LHC, as well as fixed target experiments at high $x_F$.
