We study equilibrium transport properties of massless Dirac fermions at finite temperature and chemical potential in spacetime accompanied by torsion, which in four dimensions couples with Dirac fermions as an axial gauge field. We propose a torsional response raised by lattice dislocation in Weyl semimetals akin to chiral magnetic effect; i.e. a fictitious magnetic field arising from screw or edge dislocation induces charge current. We demonstrate that, in sharp contrast to the usual chiral magnetic effect which vanishes in real solid state materials, the torsional chiral magnetic effect exists even for realistic lattice models, which implies the experimental detection of the effect via SQUID or nonlocal resistivity measurements in Weyl semimetal materials.

We propose the new nondissipative transport effect - the appearance of axial current of thermal quasiparticles in the presence of background gravity with torsion. For the non-interacting model of massless Dirac fermions the response of the axial current to torsion is derived. The chiral vortical effect appears to be the particular case of the chiral torsional effect. The proposed effect may be observed in the condensed matter systems with emergent relativistic invariance (Weyl/Dirac semimetals and the $^3$He-A superfluid).
Inspired by the duality between gravity and defects in crystals, we study lattice field theory with torsion. The torsion is realized by a line defect of a lattice, namely a dislocation. As the first application, we perform the numerical computation for vector and axial currents induced by a screw dislocation. This current generation is called the chiral torsional effect. We also derive the analytical formula for the chiral torsional effect in the continuum limit.

We develop and solve a continuum theory for the piezoelectric response of nanotubes under applied uniaxial and torsional stresses. We find that the piezoelectric response is controlled by the chiral angle, the aspect ratio, and two dimensionless parameters specifying the ratio of the strengths of the electrostatic and elastic energies.
