In a recent paper we introduced the chirality-flow formalism, a method for simple and transparent calculations of Feynman diagrams based on the left- and right-chiral $\mathrm{sl}(2,\mathbb{C})$ nature of spacetime. While our previous work focused on massless QED and QCD at tree-level, we here extend the chirality-flow formalism to the full (tree-level) Standard Model, including massive particles and electroweak interactions -- for which the $W$-interaction simplifies elegantly due to its chiral nature. We illustrate how values of Feynman diagrams can be immediately written down with some representative examples.
We take a fresh look at Feynman diagrams in the spinor-helicity formalism. Focusing on tree-level massless QED and QCD, we develop a new and conceptually simple graphical method for their calculation. In this pictorial method, which we dub the chirality-flow formalism, Feynman diagrams are directly represented in terms of chirality-flow lines corresponding to spinor inner products, without the need to resort to intermediate algebraic manipulations.
Inspired by the flow description of su(N) colour calculations, we recently showed how to simplify the spinor-helicity formalism (at the algebra level two copies of complexified su(2)) by treating each Weyl spinor as part of a flow line with definite chirality and momentum. This formalism, dubbed the chirality-flow formalism, eliminates all non-trivial algebra from tree-level spinor-helicity calculations, thus allowing the shortest possible route from Feynman diagrams to complex numbers (spinor inner products). In this presentation, we briefly introduce the main features of this method and show…
In a few recent papers we introduced the chirality-flow formalism, which was shown to make calculations of tree-level Feynman diagrams simple and transparent. Chirality flow, which is based on the spinor-helicity formalism, allows to often immediately analytically write down a tree-level Feynman diagram in terms of spinor inner products. In this paper, we argue that there is also a significant simplification of the Lorentz structure at the one-loop level, at least when using the four-dimensional formulation of the four-dimensional helicity scheme. Additionally, we find that the possible terms …
Scattering amplitudes are often split up into their color (su(N)) and kinematic components. Since the su(N) gauge part can be described using flows of color, one may anticipate that the double su(2) kinematic part can be described in terms of flows of chirality. In two recent papers we showed that this is indeed the case, introducing the chirality-flow formalism for standard model calculations. Using the chirality-flow method -- which builds on and further simplifies the spinor-helicity formalism -- Feynman diagrams can be directly written down in terms of Lorentz-invariant spinor inner produc…
Recently we introduced the chirality-flow formalism, a method which builds on the spinor-helicity formalism and is inspired by the color-flow idea in QCD. With this formalism, Feynman rules and diagrams are simplified to the extent that it is often possible to immediately, by hand, write down a helicity amplitude given a Feynman diagram. In this paper we show that the method can also speed up numerical evaluation of scattering amplitudes by considering $e^+ e^-$ going to $n$ photons in a MadGraph-based tree-level implementation. We find that the computation time is reduced by roughly a factor …
The anomalous generation of chirality with mass effects via the axial Ward identity and its dependence on the Schwinger mechanism is reviewed, utilizing parity violating homogeneous electromagnetic background fields. The role vacuum asymptotic states play on the interpretation of expectation values is examined. It is discussed that observables calculated with an in-out scattering matrix element predict a scenario under Euclidean equilibrium. A notable ramification of which is a vanishing of the chiral anomaly. In contrast, it is discussed observables calculated under an in-in, or real-time, fo…
The appearance of the triangle graph infra-red axial anomaly in reduced quark loops contributing to QCD triple-regge interactions is studied. In a dispersion relation formalism, the anomaly can only be present in the contributions of unphysical triple discontinuities. In this paper an asymptotic discontinuity analysis is applied to high-order feynman diagrams to show that the anomaly does indeed occur in sufficiently high-order reggeized gluon interactions. The reggeon states involved must contain reggeized gluon combinations with the quantum numbers of the anomaly (winding-number) current. A …
We perform a model-independent investigation of spin and chirality correlation effects in the antler-topology processes $e^+e^-\to\mathcal{P}^+\mathcal{P}^-\to (\ell^+ \mathcal{D}^0) (\ell^-\mathcal{\bar{D}}^0)$ at high energy $e^+e^-$ colliders with polarized beams. Generally the production process $e^+e^-\to\mathcal{P}^+\mathcal{P}^-$ can occur not only through the $s$-channel exchange of vector bosons, $\mathcal{V}^0$, including the neutral Standard Model (SM) gauge bosons, $γ$ and $Z$, but also through the $s$- and $t$-channel exchanges of new neutral states, $\mathcal{S}^0$ and $\mathcal{…
We develop a model for hadrons in the framework of the worldline formalism. While being based wholly in four-dimensional quantum field theory, it shares many features with holographic approaches: Already by the use of the worldline formalism the approach appears intrinsically quantum mechanical. As auxiliary fifth dimension Schwinger's proper time is grouped with the physical four spacetime dimensions into an AdS5 geometry, which is warped due to conformal-symmetry breaking effects. Hidden local symmetry is emergent. The four-dimensional sources are extended to five-dimensional fields by a Wil…
Materials with charged chiral quasiparticles in external parallel electric and magnetic fields can support an electric current that grows linearly in time, corresponding to diverging DC conductivity. From experimental viewpoint, this "Chiral Magnetic Superconductivity" (CMS) is thus analogous to conventional superconductivity. However the underlying physics is entirely different -- the CMS does not require a condensate of Cooper pairs breaking the gauge degeneracy, and is thus not accompanied by Meissner effect. Instead, it owes its existence to the (temperature-independent) quantum chiral ano…
The effective electroweak Hamiltonian in the gradient-flow formalism is constructed for the current-current operators through next-to-next-to-leading order QCD. The results are presented for two common choices of the operator basis. This paves the way for a consistent matching of perturbatively evaluated Wilson coefficients and non-perturbative matrix elements evaluated by lattice simulations.
Recently, Harlander et al.\ [Eur.\ Phys.\ J.\ C {\bf 78}, 944 (2018)] have computed the two-loop order (i.e., NNLO) coefficients in the gradient-flow representation of the energy--momentum tensor (EMT) in vector-like gauge theories. In this paper, we study the effect of the two-loop order corrections (and the three-loop order correction for the trace part of the EMT, which is available through the trace anomaly) on the lattice computation of thermodynamic quantities in quenched QCD. The use of the two-loop order coefficients generally reduces the $t$~dependence of the expectation values of the…
Over the last decade the gradient flow formalism has become an important tool for lattice simulations of Quantum Chromodynamics. It offers remarkable renormalization properties which pave the way for cross-fertilization between perturbative and lattice calculations. In this contribution we report on the construction of the flowed operator product expansion for the current-current operators of the electroweak Hamiltonian at NNLO QCD. This allows for simpler transformations between lattice and perturbative schemes and might reduce the uncertainties of theoretical predictions for low-energy flavo…
We describe in detail the implementation of a systematic perturbative approach to observables in the QCD gradient-flow formalism. This includes a collection of all relevant Feynman rules of the five-dimensional field theory and the composite operators considered in this paper. Tools from standard perturbative calculations are used to obtain Green's functions at finite flow time $t$ at higher orders in perturbation theory. The three-loop results for the quark condensate at finite $t$ and the conversion factor for the "ringed" quark fields to the $\overline{\mbox{MS}}$ scheme are presented as ap…
We investigate general properties of the eigenvalue spectrum for improved staggered quarks. We introduce a new chirality operator $[γ_5 \otimes 1]$ and a new shift operator $[1 \otimes ξ_5]$, which respect the same recursion relation as the $γ_5$ operator in the continuum. Then we show that matrix elements of the chirality operator sandwiched between two eigenstates of the staggered Dirac operator are related to those of the shift operator by the Ward identity of the conserved $U(1)_A$ symmetry of staggered fermion actions. We perform a numerical study in quenched QCD using HYP staggered quark…
