Charge noise is the main hurdle preventing high-fidelity operation, in particular that of two-qubit gates, of semiconductor-quantum-dot-based spin qubits. While certain sweet spots where charge noise is substantially suppressed have been demonstrated in several types of spin qubits, the existence of one for coupled singlet-triplet qubits is unclear. We theoretically demonstrate, using full configuration-interaction calculations, that a range of nearly sweet spots appear in the coupled singlet-triplet qubit system when a strong enough magnetic field is applied externally. We further demonstrate that ramping to and from the judiciously chosen nearly sweet spot using sequences based on the shortcut to adiabaticity offers maximal gate fidelities under charge noise and phonon-induced decoherence. These results should facilitate realization of high-fidelity two-qubit gates in singlet-triplet qubit systems.
The recent experimental advances in capacitively coupled singlet-triplet qubits, particularly the demonstration of entanglement, opens the question of what type of entangling gates the system's Hamiltonian can produce directly via a single square pulse. We address this question by considering the system's Hamiltonian from first principles and using the representation of its nonlocal properties in terms of local invariants. In the analysis we include the three different ways in which the system can be biased and their effect on the generation of entangling gates. We find that, in one of the pos…
The search of a sweet spot, locus in qubit parameters where quantum control is first-order insensitive to noises, is key to achieve high-fidelity quantum gates. Efforts to search for such a sweet spot in conventional double-quantum-dot singlet-triplet qubits where each dot hosts one electron ("two-electron singlet-triplet qubit"), especially for two-qubit operations, have been unsuccessful. Here we consider singlet-triplet qubits allowing each dot to host more than one electron, with a total of four electrons in the double quantum dots ("four-electron singlet-triplet qubit"). We theoretically …
Recent work on Ising-coupled double-quantum-dot spin qubits in GaAs with voltage-controlled exchange interaction has shown improved two-qubit gate fidelities from the application of oscillating exchange along with a strong magnetic field gradient between adjacent dots. By examining how noise propagates in the time-evolution operator of the system, we find an optimal set of parameters that provide passive stroboscopic circumvention of errors in two-qubit gates to first order. We predict over 99% two-qubit gate fidelities in the presence of quasistatic and 1/$\textit{f}$ noise, which is an order…
Singlet-triplet qubits in lateral quantum dots in semiconductor heterostructures exhibit high-fidelity single-qubit gates via exchange interactions and magnetic field gradients. High-fidelity two-qubit entangling gates are challenging to generate since weak interqubit interactions result in slow gates that accumulate error in the presence of noise. However, the interqubit electrostatic interaction also produces a shift in the local double well detunings, effectively changing the dependence of exchange on the gate voltages. We consider an operating point where the effective exchange is first or…
In addition to magnetic field and electric charge noise adversely affecting spin qubit operations, performing single-qubit gates on one of multiple coupled singlet-triplet qubits presents a new challenge---crosstalk, which is inevitable (and must be minimized) in any multiqubit quantum computing architecture. We develop a set of dynamically-corrected pulse sequences that are designed to cancel the effects of both types of noise (i.e., field and charge) as well as crosstalk to leading order, and provide parameters for these corrected sequences for all 24 of the single-qubit Clifford gates. We t…
We consider a system of two purely capacitively-coupled singlet-triplet qubits, and numerically simulate the energy structure of four electrons in two double quantum dots with a large potential barrier between them. We calculate the interqubit coupling strength using an extended Hund-Mulliken approach which includes excited orbitals in addition to the lowest energy orbital for each quantum dot. We show the coupling strength as a function of the qubit separation, as well as plotting it against the detunings of the two double quantum dots, and show that the general qualitative features of our re…
We study a pair of capacitively coupled singlet-triplet spin qubits. We characterize the two-qubit decoherence through two complementary measures, the decay time of coupled-qubit oscillations and the fidelity of entangled state preparation. We provide a quantitative map of their dependence on charge noise and field noise, and we highlight the magnetic field gradient across each singlet-triplet qubit as an effective tool to suppress decoherence due to charge noise.
We investigate a method for entangling two singlet-triplet qubits in adjacent double quantum dots via capacitive interactions. In contrast to prior work, here we focus on a regime with strong interactions between the qubits. The interplay of the interaction energy and simultaneous large detunings for both double dots gives rise to the double charge resonant regime, in which the unpolarized (1111) and fully polarized (0202) four-electron states in the absence of interqubit tunneling are near degeneracy, while being energetically well-separated from the partially polarized (0211 and 1102) states…
Singlet-triplet states in double quantum dots are promising realizations of qubits, and capacitive coupling can be used to create entanglement between these qubits. We propose an entangling three-qubit gate of singlet-triplet qubits in a triangular setup. Our simulations using a realistic microscopic model show that a maximally entangled Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state can be generated as the qubits are evolved under exchange. Furthermore, our analysis for the gate operation can be used to extract the actual experimental pulse sequence needed to realize this.
We measure singlet-triplet mixing in a precision fabricated double donor dot comprising of 2 and 1 phosphorus atoms separated by $16{\pm}1$ nm. We identify singlet and triplet-minus states by performing sequential independent spin readout of the two electron system and probe its dependence on magnetic field strength. The relaxation of singlet and triplet states are measured to be $12.4{\pm}1.0$ s and $22.1{\pm}1.0$ s respectively at $B_z{=}2.5$ T.
In the singlet-triplet qubit architecture, the two-qubit interactions required in universal quantum computing can be implemented by capacitative coupling, by exploiting the charge distribution differences of the singlet and triplet states. The efficiency of this scheme is limited by decoherence, that can be mitigated by stronger coupling between the qubits. In this paper, we study the capacitative coupling of singlet-triplet qubits in different geometries of the two-qubit system. The effects of the qubit-qubit distance and the relative orientation of the qubits on the capacitative coupling str…
Using single-shot charge detection in a GaAs double quantum dot, we investigate spin relaxation time T_1 and readout visibility of a two-electron singlet-triplet qubit following single-electron dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP). For magnetic fields up to 2 T, the DNP cycle is in all cases found to increase Overhauser field gradients, which in turn decrease T_1 and consequently reduce readout visibility. This effect was previously attributed to a suppression of singlet-triplet dephasing under a similar DNP cycle. A model describing relaxation after singlet-triplet mixing agrees well with exper…
We present a highly flexible computational scheme for studying correlated electrons confined by an arbitrary external potential in two-dimensional semiconductor quantum dots. The method starts by a Lagrange mesh calculation for the single-particle states, followed by the calculation of the Coulomb interaction matrix elements between these, and combining both in the exact diagonalization of the many-body Hamiltonian. We apply the method in simulation of double quantum dot singlet-triplet qubits. We simulate the full quantum control and dynamics of one singlet-triplet qubit. We also use our meth…
Results of calculations and high source-drain transport measurements are presented which demonstrate voltage-tunable entanglement of electron pairs in lateral quantum dots. At a fixed magnetic field, the application of a judiciously-chosen gate voltage alters the ground-state of an electron pair from an entagled spin singlet to a spin triplet.
We experimentally demonstrate coherence recovery of singlet-triplet superpositions by interlacing qubit rotations between Carr-Purcell (CP) echo sequences. We then compare performance of Hahn, CP, concatenated dynamical decoupling (CDD) and Uhrig dynamical decoupling (UDD) for singlet recovery. In the present case, where gate noise and drift combined with spatially varying hyperfine coupling contribute significantly to dephasing, and pulses have limited bandwidth, CP and CDD yield comparable results, with T2 ~ 80 microseconds.
The $s_z=0$ spin configuration of two electrons confined at a double quantum dot (DQD) encodes the singlet-triplet qubit (STQ). We introduce the inverted STQ (ISTQ) that emerges from the setup of two quantum dots (QDs) differing significantly in size and out-of-plane magnetic fields. The strongly confined QD has a two-electron singlet ground state, but the weakly confined QD has a two-electron triplet ground state in the $s_z=0$ subspace. Spin-orbit interactions act nontrivially on the $s_z=0$ subspace and provide universal control of the ISTQ together with electrostatic manipulations of the c…
In this work we perform direct single-shot readout of the singlet-triplet states in exchange coupled electrons confined to precision placed donor atoms in silicon. Our method takes advantage of the large energy splitting given by the Pauli-spin blockaded (2,0) triplet states, from which we can achieve a single-shot readout fidelity of 98.4$\pm$0.2%. We measure the triplet-minus relaxation time to be of the order 3s at 2.5T and observe its predicted decrease as a function of magnetic field, reaching 0.5s at 1T.
The valley degree of freedom in the electronic band structure of silicon, graphene, and other materials is often considered to be an obstacle for quantum computing (QC) based on electron spins in quantum dots. Here we show that control over the valley state opens new possibilities for quantum information processing. Combining qubits encoded in the singlet-triplet subspace of spin and valley states allows for universal QC using a universal two-qubit gate directly provided by the exchange interaction. We show how spin and valley qubits can be separated in order to allow for single-qubit rotation…
We study controllable exchange coupling between two singlet-triplet qubits. We start from the original second quantized Hamiltonian of a quadruple quantum dot system and obtain the effective spin-spin interaction between the two qubits using the projection operator method. Under a strong uniform external magnetic field and an inhomogeneous local micro-magnetic field, the effective interqubit coupling is of the Ising type, and the coupling strength can be expressed in terms of quantum dot parameters. Finally, we discuss how to generate various two-qubit operations using this controllable coupli…
We show that singlet-triplet superpositions of two-electron spin states in a double quantum dot undergo a phonon-induced pure dephasing which relies only on the tunnel coupling between the dots and on the Pauli exclusion principle. As such, this dephasing process is independent of spin-orbit coupling or hyperfine interactions. The physical mechanism behind the dephasing is elastic phonon scattering, which persists to much lower temperatures than real phonon-induced transitions. Quantitative calculations performed for a lateral GaAs/AlGaAs gate-defined double quantum dot yield micro-second deph…
The exchange interaction in a singlet-triplet qubit defined by two-electron states in the double-quantum-dot system ("two-electron singlet-triplet qubit") typically varies monotonically with the exchange interaction and thus carries no sweet spot. Here we study a singlet-triplet qubit defined by four-electron states in the double-quantum-dot system ("four-electron singlet-triplet qubit"). We demonstrate, using configuration-interaction calculations, that in the four-electron singlet-triplet qubit the exchange energy as a function of detuning can be non-monotonic, suggesting existence of sweet …
We theoretically study the influence of charge noise on a controlled phase gate, implemented using two proximal double quantum dots coupled electrostatically. Using the configuration interaction method, we present a full description of the conditional control scheme and quantitatively calculate the gate error arising from charge fluctuations. Our key finding is that the existence of noise-immune sweet spots depends on not only the energy detuning but also the device geometry. The conditions for sweet spots with minimal charge noise are predicted analytically and verified numerically. Going bey…
From our theoretical studies of resonant Raman transitions in two-electron quantum dots (artificial helium atoms) we show that in this system, the singlet-triplet Raman transitions are allowed (in polarized configuration) only in the presence of spin-orbit interactions. With an increase of the applied magnetic field this transition dominates over the singlet-singlet and triplet-triplet transitions. This intriguing effect can therefore be utilized to tune Raman transitions as well as the spin-orbit coupling in few-electron quantum dots.
We apply an elementary measurement scheme to calculate the electronic triplet-singlet transition mediated by hyperfine interaction in a double quantum dot. We show how the local character of the hyperfine interaction and the nuclear back-action process (flip-flop) are crucial to cancel destructive interferences of the triplet-singlet transition probability. It is precisely this cancellation which differentiates the hyperfine interaction from an anisotropic magnetic field which mixes the triplet and the singlet eigenstates.
Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) heterostructure with a type II alignment hosts unique interlayer excitons with the possibility of spin-triplet and spin-singlet states. However, the associated spectroscopy signatures remain elusive, strongly hindering the understanding of the Moire potential modulation of the interlayer exciton. In this work, we unambiguously identify the spin-singlet and spin-triplet interlayer excitons in the WSe2/MoSe2 hetero-bilayer with a 60-degree twist angle through the gate- and magnetic field-dependent photoluminescence spectroscopy. Both the singlet and tripl…
An artifcial two-atomic molecule, also called a double quantum dot (DQD), is an ideal system for exploring few electron physics. Spin-entanglement between just two electrons can be explored in such systems where singlet and triplet states are accessible. These two spin-states can be regarded as the two states in a quantum two-state system, a so-called singlet-triplet qubit. A very attractive material for realizing spin based qubits is the carbon nanotube (CNT), because it is expected to have a very long spin coherence time. Here we show the existence of a gate-tunable singlet-triplet qubit in …
In a GaAs single quantum dot, the relaxation time T_{1} between spin triplet and singlet states has been measured for the last few even number of electrons. The singlet-triplet energy separation E_{ST} is tuned as a control parameter for the comparison of T_{1} between different electron numbers. T_{1} shows a steady decrease from 2-electrons, 4-electrons, to 6-electrons, and we found this implies an enhancement of the spin-orbital coupling strength in a multi-electron quantum dot.
In double quantum dot singlet-triplet qubits, the exchange interaction is used in both quantum gate operation and the measurement of the state of the qubit. The exchange can be controlled electronically by applying gate voltage pulses. We simulate the exchange induced charge state transitions in one and two singlet-triplet qubit systems using the exact diagonalization method. We find that fast detuning pulses may result in leakage between different singlet charge states. The leakage could cause measurement errors and hinder quantum gate operation for example in the case of the two-qubit Coulom…
We discuss pure dephasing of singlet-triplet superpositions in two-electron double quantum dots due to elastic phonon scattering. We generalize our previous results to a system built of two non-identical dots. We show that the asymmetry must be very strong in order to considerably affect the dephasing rate.
A pulsed-gate technique with charge sensing is used to measure the singlet-triplet relaxation time for nearly-degenerate spin states in a two-electron double quantum dot. Transitions from the (1,1) charge occupancy state to the (0,2) state, measured as a function of pulse cycle duration and magnetic field, allow the (1,1) singlet-triplet relaxation time (~70 microseconds) and the (0,2) singlet-triplet splitting to be measured. The use of charge sensing rather than current measurement allows long relaxation times to be readily probed.
Embedding a WS$_2$ monolayer in flakes of hexagonal boron nitride allowed us to resolve and study the photoluminescence response due to both singlet and triplet states of negatively charged excitons (trions) in this atomically thin semiconductor. The energy separation between the singlet and triplet states has been found to be relatively small reflecting rather weak effects of the electron-electron exchange interaction for the trion triplet in a WS$_2$ monolayer, which involves two electrons with the same spin but from different valleys. Polarization-resolved experiments demonstrate that the h…
We study theoretically phonon-induced spin dynamics of two electrons confined in a self-assembled double quantum dot. We calculate the transition rates and time evolution of occupations for the spin-triplet and spin-singlet states. We characterize the relative importance of various relaxation channels as a function of the electric and magnetic fields. The simulations are based on a model combining the eight-band k.p method and configuration-interaction approach. We show that the electron g-factor mismatch between the Zeeman doublets localized on different dots opens a relatively fast triplet-s…
We study double quantum dots in a Ge/SiGe heterostructure and test their maturity towards singlet-triplet ($S-T_0$) qubits. We demonstrate a large range of tunability, from two single quantum dots to a double quantum dot. We measure Pauli spin blockade and study the anisotropy of the $g$-factor. We use an adjacent quantum dot for sensing charge transitions in the double quantum dot at interest. In conclusion, Ge/SiGe possesses all ingredients necessary for building a singlet-triplet qubit.
We study spin relaxation in a two-electron quantum dot in the vicinity of the singlet-triplet crossing. The spin relaxation occurs due to a combined effect of the spin-orbit, Zeeman, and electron-phonon interactions. The singlet-triplet relaxation rates exhibit strong variations as a function of the singlet-triplet splitting. We show that the Coulomb interaction between the electrons has two competing effects on the singlet-triplet spin relaxation. One effect is to enhance the relative strength of spin-orbit coupling in the quantum dot, resulting in larger spin-orbit splittings and thus in a s…
The singlet-triplet relaxation in nanowire-based quantum dots induced by confined phonons is investigated theoretically. Due to the quasi-one-dimensional nature of the confined phonons, the singlet-triplet relaxation rates exhibit multi-peaks as function of magnetic field and the relaxation rate between the singlet and the spin up triplet state is found to be enhanced at the vicinity of the singlet-triplet anti-crossing. We compare the effect of the deformation-potential coupling and the piezoelectric coupling and find that the deformation-potential coupling dominates the relaxation rates in m…
We report the first theoretical calculations of excited state absorptions (ESAs) from the singlet and triplet excitons, as well as the key intermediate in the singlet fission (SF) process, the spin singlet multiexciton triplet-triplet state, for solid pentacene with herringbone crystal structure. Our goal is to compare theoretical results against ultrafast transient photoinduced absorption (PA) measurements and their interpretations, which have remained controversial. We show that the elusive triplet-triplet state absorbs both in the visible and near infrared (NIR), at or close to the PA energ…
We present a theoretical study of the spectrum of electrons confined in triple concentric rings. An unusual ordering and rich variety of angular momentum transitions are found that depend on the coupling between the rings and the confinement potential of the rings. Using the Configuration Interaction (CI) method, we calculated the two electron energy spectrum. Spin singlet to spin triplet transitions of the electron ground state are predicted and a fractional Aharonov-Bohm effect is found. We show that both the period and amplitude of the spin singlet - triplet energy gap depend strongly on th…
We estimate the triplet-singlet relaxation rate due to spin-orbit coupling assisted by phonon emission in weakly-confined quantum dots. Our results for two and four electrons show that the different triplet-singlet relaxation trends observed in recent experiments under magnetic fields can be understood within a unified theoretical description, as the result of the competition between spin-orbit coupling and phonon emission efficiency. Moreover, we show that both effects are greatly affected by the strength of the confinement and the external magnetic field, which may give access to very long-l…
In the present work we provide an easily accessible way to achieve the singlet-triplet Kondo effect in a hybrid system consisting of a quantum point contact (QPC) coupled to an electronic cavity. We show that by activating the coupling between the QPC and cavity, a zero-bias anomaly occurs in a low conductance regime, a coexistence of zero-bias and finite-bias anomaly (FBA) in a medium conductance regime, and a FBA-only anomaly in a high conductance regime. The latter two observations are due to the singlet-triplet Kondo effect.
We observe mixing between two-electron singlet and triplet states in a double quantum dot, caused by interactions with nuclear spins in the host semiconductor. This mixing is suppressed by applying a small magnetic field, or by increasing the interdot tunnel coupling and thereby the singlet-triplet splitting. Electron transport involving transitions between triplets and singlets in turn polarizes the nuclei, resulting in striking bistabilities. We extract from the fluctuating nuclear field a limitation on the time-averaged spin coherence time T2* of 25 ns. Control of the electron-nuclear inter…
We report implementation of a resonantly driven singlet-triplet spin qubit in silicon. The qubit is defined by the two-electron anti-parallel spin states and universal quantum control is provided through a resonant drive of the exchange interaction at the qubit frequency. The qubit exhibits long $T_2^*$ exceeding 1 $μ$s that is limited by dephasing due to the $^{29}$Si nuclei rather than charge noise thanks to the symmetric operation and a large micro-magnet Zeeman field gradient. The randomized benchmarking shows 99.6 % single gate fidelity which is the highest reported for singlet-triplet qu…
We have evaluated hyperfine-induced electron spin dynamics for two electrons confined to a double quantum dot. Our quantum solution accounts for decay of a singlet-triplet correlator even in the presence of a fully static nuclear spin system, with no ensemble averaging over initial conditions. In contrast to an earlier semiclassical calculation, which neglects the exchange interaction, we find that the singlet-triplet correlator shows a long-time saturation value that differs from 1/2, even in the presence of a strong magnetic field. Furthermore, we find that the form of the long-time decay un…
Spin-orbit mediated phonon relaxation in a two-dimensional quantum dot is investigated using different confining potentials. Elliptical harmonic oscillator and cylindrical well results are compared to each other in the case of a two-electron GaAs quantum dot subjected to a tilted magnetic field. The lowest energy set of two-body singlet and triplet states are calculated including spin-orbit and magnetic effects. These are used to calculate the phonon induced transition rate from the excited triplet to the ground state singlet for magnetic fields up to where the states cross. The roll of the cu…
We consider a quantum dot embedded in a three-dimensional nanowire with tunable aspect ratio a. A configuration interaction theory is developed to calculate the energy spectra of the finite 1D quantum dot systems charged with two electrons in the presence of magnetic fields B along the wire axis. Fruitful singlet-triplet transition behaviors are revealed and explained in terms of the competing exchange interaction, correlation interaction, and spin Zeeman energy. In the high aspect ratio regime, the singlet-triplet transitions are shown designable by tuning the parameters a and B. The transiti…
Kondo effect in the vicinity of a singlet-triplet transition in a vertical quantum dot is considered. This system is shown to map onto a special version of the two-impurity Kondo model. At any value of the control parameter, the system has a Fermi-liquid ground state. Explicit expressions for the linear conductance as a function of the control parameter and temperature $T$ are obtained. At T=0, the conductance reaches the unitary limit $\sim 4e^2/h$ at the triplet side of the transition, and decreases with the increasing distance to the transition at the singlet side. At finite temperature, th…
The magnetic-field evolution of Coulomb blockade peaks in lateral InGaAs/InAlAs quantum dots in the few-electron regime is reported. Quantum dots are defined by gates evaporated onto a 60 nm-thick hydrogen silsesquioxane insulating film. A gyromagnetic factor of 4.4 is measured via zero-bias spin spectroscopy and a transition from singlet to triplet spin configuration is found at an in-plane magnetic field B = 0.7 T. This observation opens the way to the manipulation of singlet and triplet states at moderate fields and its relevance for quantum information applications will be discussed.
We study the two-qubit controlled-not gate operating on qubits encoded in the spin state of a pair of electrons in a double quantum dot. We assume that the electrons can tunnel between the two quantum dots encoding a single qubit, while tunneling between the quantum dots that belong to different qubits is forbidden. Therefore, the two qubits interact exclusively through the direct Coulomb repulsion of the electrons. We find that entangling two-qubit gates can be performed by the electrical biasing of quantum dots and/or tuning of the tunneling matrix elements between the quantum dots within th…
Spin relaxation from a triplet excited state to a singlet ground state in a semiconductor quantum dot is studied by employing an electrical pump-and-probe method. Spin relaxation occurs via cotunneling when the tunneling rate is relatively large, confirmed by a characteristic square dependence of the relaxation rate on the tunneling rate. When cotunneling is suppressed by reducing the tunneling rate, the intrinsic spin relaxation is dominated by spin-orbit interaction. We discuss a selection rule of the spin-orbit interaction based on the observed double-exponential decay of the triplet state.
We study the magnetic field induced singlet/triplet transition for two electrons in vertically coupled quantum dots by exact diagonalization of the Coulomb interaction. We identify the different mechanisms occurring in the transition, involving either in-plane correlations or localization in opposite dots, depending on the field direction. Therefore, both spin and orbital degrees of freedom can be manipulated by field strength and direction. The phase diagram of realistic devices is determined.
We study transport and zero frequency shot noise properties of a normal metal-superconductor-normal metal (NSN) junction, with the superconductor having mixed singlet and chiral triplet pairings. We show that in the subgapped regime when the chiral triplet pairing amplitude dominates over that of the singlet, a resonance phenomena emerges out at zero energy where all the quantum mechanical scattering probabilities acquire a value of 0.25. At the resonance, crossed Andreev reflection mediating through such junction, acquires a zero energy peak. This reflects as a zero energy peak in the conduct…
We demonstrate singlet-triplet readout and parity readout allowing to distinguish T0 and the polarized triplet states. We achieve high fidelity spin readout with an average fidelity above $99.9\%$ for a readout time of $20~μ$s and $99\%$ for $4~μ$s at a temperature of $0.5~K$. We initialize a singlet state in a single dot with a fidelity higher than $99\%$ and separate the two electrons while keeping the same spin state with $a \approx 95.6\%$ fidelity.
We consider two interacting electrons in a semiconductor quantum dot structure which consists of a small dot within a larger dot, and demonstrate a singlet-triplet filtering mechanism which involves spin-dependent resonances and can generate entanglement. By studying the exact time evolution of singlet and triplet states we show how the degree of both filtering and spin entanglement can be tuned using a time-dependent gate voltage.
The spin-orbit interaction is the key element for electrically tunable spin qubits. Here we probe the effect of cubic Rashba spin-orbit interaction on mixing of the spin states by investigating singlet-triplet oscillations in a planar Ge hole double quantum dot. By varying the magnetic field direction we find an intriguing transformation of the funnel into a butterfly-shaped pattern. Landau-Zener sweeps disentangle the Zeeman mixing effect from the spin-orbit induced coupling and show that large singlet-triplet avoided crossings do not imply a strong spin-orbit interaction. Our work emphasizes…
A strong coupling between an electronic cavity and a quantum dot has been recently demonstrated [Phys. Rev. Lett. 115, 166603 (2015)] and described in a comprehensive theoretical framework [Phys. Rev. B 96, 235431 (2017)]. Here, we focus on the signatures that demonstrate the cavity's impact on inelastic singlet-triplet transport through the dot. We find the same transport signatures in the experiment as predicted by the model that describes the coupled dot--cavity system. Interestingly, a lowest-order treatement of the coupling to the electronic leads on top of an exact diagonalisation of the…
We report a successful measurement of the magnetic field-induced spin singlet-triplet transition in silicon-based coupled dot systems. Our specific experimental scheme incorporates a lateral gate-controlled Coulomb-blockaded structure in Si to meet the proposed scheme of Loss and DiVincenzo [1], and a non-equilibrium single-electron tunneling technique to probe the fine energy splitting between the spin singlet and triplet, which varies as a function of applying magnetic fields and interdot coupling constant. Our results, exhibiting the singlet-triplet crossing at a magnetic field for various …
Wavefunction and interaction effects in the addition spectrum of a Coulomb blockaded many electron quantum ring are investigated as a function of asymmetrically applied gate voltages and magnetic field. Hartree and exchange contributions to the interaction are quantitatively evaluated at a crossing between states extended around the ring and states which are more localized in one arm of the ring. A gate tunable singlet-triplet transition of the two uppermost levels of this many electron ring is identified at zero magnetic field.
We discuss transport through a lateral quantum dot in the vicinity of a singlet-triplet spin transition in its ground state. Extracting the scattering phase shifts from the numerical renormalization group spectra, we determine the linear conductance at zero temperature as a function of a Zeeman field and the splitting of the singlet and triplet states. We find reduced low-energy transport, and a non-monotonic magnetic field dependence both in the singlet and the triplet regime. For a generic set of dot parameters and no Zeeman splitting, the singlet-triplet transition may be identified with th…
The magnetic character of the ground-state of two electrons on a double quantum dot, connected in series to left and right single-channel leads, is considered. By solving exactly for the spectrum of the two interacting electrons, it is found that the coupling to the continuum of propagating states on the leads, in conjunction with the electron-electron interactions, may result in a delocalization of the bound state of the two electrons. This, in turn, reduces significantly the range of the Coulomb interaction parameters over which singlet-triplet transitions can be realized. It is also found t…
We study the triplet-singlet relaxation in two-electron semiconductor quantum dots. Both single dots and vertically coupled double dots are discussed. In our work, the electron-electron Coulomb interaction, which plays an important role in the electronic structure, is included. The spin mixing is caused by spin-orbit coupling which is the key to the triplet-singlet relaxation. We show that the selection rule widely used in the literature is incorrect unless near the crossing/anticrossing point in single quantum dots. The triplet/singlet relaxation in double quantum dots can be markedly changed…
