End-to-end Object Detection with Transformer (DETR)proposes to perform object detection with Transformer and achieve comparable performance with two-stage object detection like Faster-RCNN. However, DETR needs huge computational resources for training and inference due to the high-resolution spatial input. In this paper, a novel variant of transformer named Adaptive Clustering Transformer(ACT) has been proposed to reduce the computation cost for high-resolution input. ACT cluster the query features adaptively using Locality Sensitive Hashing (LSH) and ap-proximate the query-key interaction using the prototype-key interaction. ACT can reduce the quadratic O(N2) complexity inside self-attention into O(NK) where K is the number of prototypes in each layer. ACT can be a drop-in module replacing the original self-attention module without any training. ACT achieves a good balance between accuracy and computation cost (FLOPs). The code is available as supplementary for the ease of experiment replication and verification. Code is released at \url{https://github.com/gaopengcuhk/SMCA-DETR/}
We propose Clustering Mask Transformer (CMT-DeepLab), a transformer-based framework for panoptic segmentation designed around clustering. It rethinks the existing transformer architectures used in segmentation and detection; CMT-DeepLab considers the object queries as cluster centers, which fill the role of grouping the pixels when applied to segmentation. The clustering is computed with an alternating procedure, by first assigning pixels to the clusters by their feature affinity, and then updating the cluster centers and pixel features. Together, these operations comprise the Clustering Mask …

Weakly supervised object localization (WSOL) is a challenging task to localize the object by only category labels. However, there is contradiction between classification and localization because accurate classification network tends to pay attention to discriminative region of objects rather than the entirety. We propose this discrimination is caused by handcraft threshold choosing in CAM-based methods. Therefore, we propose Clustering and Filter of Tokens (CaFT) with Vision Transformer (ViT) backbone to solve this problem in another way. CaFT first sends the patch tokens of the image split to…

This paper proposes a unified framework dubbed Multi-view and Temporal Fusing Transformer (MTF-Transformer) to adaptively handle varying view numbers and video length without camera calibration in 3D Human Pose Estimation (HPE). It consists of Feature Extractor, Multi-view Fusing Transformer (MFT), and Temporal Fusing Transformer (TFT). Feature Extractor estimates 2D pose from each image and fuses the prediction according to the confidence. It provides pose-focused feature embedding and makes subsequent modules computationally lightweight. MFT fuses the features of a varying number of views wi…
Domain adaptive panoptic segmentation aims to mitigate data annotation challenge by leveraging off-the-shelf annotated data in one or multiple related source domains. However, existing studies employ two separate networks for instance segmentation and semantic segmentation which lead to excessive network parameters as well as complicated and computationally intensive training and inference processes. We design UniDAformer, a unified domain adaptive panoptic segmentation transformer that is simple but can achieve domain adaptive instance segmentation and semantic segmentation simultaneously wit…
Unsupervised semantic segmentation aims to discover groupings within and across images that capture object and view-invariance of a category without external supervision. Grouping naturally has levels of granularity, creating ambiguity in unsupervised segmentation. Existing methods avoid this ambiguity and treat it as a factor outside modeling, whereas we embrace it and desire hierarchical grouping consistency for unsupervised segmentation. We approach unsupervised segmentation as a pixel-wise feature learning problem. Our idea is that a good representation shall reveal not just a particular l…

This paper presents a novel method for face clustering in videos using a video-centralised transformer. Previous works often employed contrastive learning to learn frame-level representation and used average pooling to aggregate the features along the temporal dimension. This approach may not fully capture the complicated video dynamics. In addition, despite the recent progress in video-based contrastive learning, few have attempted to learn a self-supervised clustering-friendly face representation that benefits the video face clustering task. To overcome these limitations, our method employs …

Vision transformers have achieved great successes in many computer vision tasks. Most methods generate vision tokens by splitting an image into a regular and fixed grid and treating each cell as a token. However, not all regions are equally important in human-centric vision tasks, e.g., the human body needs a fine representation with many tokens, while the image background can be modeled by a few tokens. To address this problem, we propose a novel Vision Transformer, called Token Clustering Transformer (TCFormer), which merges tokens by progressive clustering, where the tokens can be merged fr…

Face clustering is a useful tool for applications like automatic face annotation and retrieval. The main challenge is that it is difficult to cluster images from the same identity with different face poses, occlusions, and image quality. Traditional clustering methods usually ignore the relationship between individual images and their neighbors which may contain useful context information. In this paper, we repurpose the well-known Transformer and introduce a Face Transformer for supervised face clustering. In Face Transformer, we decompose the face clustering into two steps: relation encoding…

Although Transformers have successfully transitioned from their language modelling origins to image-based applications, their quadratic computational complexity remains a challenge, particularly for dense prediction. In this paper we propose a content-based sparse attention method, as an alternative to dense self-attention, aiming to reduce the computation complexity while retaining the ability to model long-range dependencies. Specifically, we cluster and then aggregate key and value tokens, as a content-based method of reducing the total token count. The resulting clustered-token sequence re…

In this paper, we present a kernel subspace clustering method that can handle non-linear models. In contrast to recent kernel subspace clustering methods which use predefined kernels, we propose to learn a low-rank kernel matrix, with which mapped data in feature space are not only low-rank but also self-expressive. In this manner, the low-dimensional subspace structures of the (implicitly) mapped data are retained and manifested in the high-dimensional feature space. We evaluate the proposed method extensively on both motion segmentation and image clustering benchmarks, and obtain superior re…

Transformer plays an increasingly important role in various computer vision areas and remarkable achievements have also been made in point cloud analysis. Since they mainly focus on point-wise transformer, an adaptive channel encoding transformer is proposed in this paper. Specifically, a channel convolution called Transformer-Conv is designed to encode the channel. It can encode feature channels by capturing the potential relationship between coordinates and features. Compared with simply assigning attention weight to each channel, our method aims to encode the channel adaptively. In addition…

Besides, we introduce adaptive token pruning to optimize the patch token sparsity based on the input image. DA-DETR introduces a novel CNN-Transformer Blender…
In real-world crowd counting applications, the crowd densities in an image vary greatly. When facing density variation, humans tend to locate and count the targets in low-density regions, and reason the number in high-density regions. We observe that CNN focus on the local information correlation using a fixed-size convolution kernel and the Transformer could effectively extract the semantic crowd information by using the global self-attention mechanism. Thus, CNN could locate and estimate crowds accurately in low-density regions, while it is hard to properly perceive the densities in high-den…
We propose the segmentation of noisy datasets into Multiple Inlier Structures with a new Robust Estimator (MISRE). Once all the data points were classified into separate structures, these structures are sorted by their densities with the strongest inlier structures coming out first. Several 2D and 3D synthetic and real examples are presented to illustrate the efficiency, ro…

In this paper a novel possibilistic c-means clustering algorithm, called Adaptive Possibilistic c-means, is presented. Its main feature is that {\it all} its parameters, after their initialization, are properly adapted during its execution. Provided that the algorithm starts with a reasonable overestimate of the number of physical clusters formed by the data, it is capable, in principle, to unravel them (a long-standing issue in the clustering literature). This is due to the fully adaptive nature of the proposed algorithm that enables the removal of the clusters that gradually become obsolete.…

While state-of-the-art vision transformer models achieve promising results in image classification, they are computationally expensive and require many GFLOPs. Although the GFLOPs of a vision transformer can be decreased by reducing the number of tokens in the network, there is no setting that is optimal for all input images. In this work, we therefore introduce a differentiable parameter-free Adaptive Token Sampler (ATS) module, which can be plugged into any existing vision transformer architecture. ATS empowers vision transformers by scoring and adaptively sampling significant tokens. As a r…
