In this paper, we give some sufficient and necessary conditions for cosine operator functions on solid Banach function spaces to be chaotic or topologically transitive.
In this paper, sufficient conditions are established for the existence results of fractional order semilinear Volterra integrodifferential equations in Banach spaces. The results are obtained by using the theory of fractional cosine families and fractional powers of operators.
Let $(C(t))\in\mathbb{R}}$ be a cosine function in a unital Banach algebra. We give a simple proof of the fact that if lim sup$\_{t\to 0}\vert C(t)-1\_A\vert\textless{}2,$ then $lim sup\_{t\to 0}\Vert C(t)-1\_A\Vert=0.$
The aim of this note is to consider different notions for the Banach-Saks property in locally solid vector lattices as an extension for the known concepts of the Banach-Saks property in Banach lattices. We investigate relations between them; in particular, we shall characterize spaces in which, these notions agree.
Let $(C(t))\_{t \in R}$ be a cosine function in a unital Banach algebra. We show that if $sup\_{t\in R}\Vert C(t)-cos(t)\Vert \textless{} 2$ for some continuous scalar bounded cosine function $(c(t))\_{t\in \R},$ then the closed subalgebra generated by $(C(t))\_{t\in R}$ is isomorphic to $\C^k$ for some positive integer $k.$ If, further, $sup\_{t\in \R}\Vert C(t)-cos(t)\Vert \textless{} {8\over 3\sqrt 3},$ or if $c(t)=I$, then $C(t)=c(t)$ for $t\in R.$
The main aim of this paper is to introduce and analyze the notions of subspace almost periodicity and subspace weak almost periodicity for $C$-distribution semigroups and $C$-distribution cosine functions in Banach spaces. We continue our previous research study of almost periodicity of abstract Volterra integro-differential equations \cite{aot}, focusing our attention on the abstract ill-posed Cauchy problems of first order.
We study weighted $H^\infty$ spaces of analytic functions on the open unit disc in the case of non-doubling weights, which decrease rapidly with respect to the boundary distance. We characterize the solid hulls of such spaces and give quite explicit representations of them in the case of the most natural exponentially decreasing weights.
Given a continuous, radial, rapidly decreasing weight $v$ on the complex plane $\mathbf{C}$, we study the solid hull of its associated weighted space $H_v^\infty(\mathbf{C})$ of all the entire functions $f$ such that $v|f|$ is bounded. The solid hull is found for a large class of weights satisfying the condition (B) of Lusky. Precise formulations are obtained for weights of the form $v(r)=\exp(-ar^p), a>0, p>0$. Applications to spaces of multipliers are included.
A strong inspiration for studying perturbation theory for fractional evolution equations comes from the fact that they have proven to be useful tools in modeling many physical processes. In this paper, we study fractional evolution equations of order $α\in (1,2]$ associated with the infinitesimal generator of an operator fractional cosine function generated by bounded time-dependent perturbations in a Banach space. We show that the abstract fractional Cauchy problem associated with the infinitesimal generator $A$ of a strongly continuous fractional cosine function remains uniformly well-posed …
The cosine transforms of functions on the unit sphere play an important role in convex geometry, the Banach space theory, stochastic geometry and other areas. Their higher-rank generalization to Grassmann manifolds represents an interesting mathematical object useful for applications. We introduce more general integral transforms that reveal distinctive features of higher-rank objects in full generality. We call these new transforms the composite cosine transforms, by taking into account that their kernels agree with the composite power function of the cone of positive definite symmetric matri…
Convoluted $C$-cosine functions and semigroups in a Banach space setting extending the classes of fractionally integrated $C$-cosine functions and semigroups are systematically analyzed. Structural properties of such operator families are obtained. Relations between convoluted $C$-cosine functions and analytic convoluted $C$-semigroups, introduced and investigated in this paper are given through the convoluted version of the abstract Weierstrass formula which is also proved in the paper. Ultradistribution and hyperfunction sines are connected with analytic convoluted semigroups and ultradistri…
In the present paper we investigate Banach--Kantorovich algebras over faithful solid subalgebras of algebras measurable functions. We prove that any Banach--Kantorovich algebra over faithful solid subalgebras of algebra measurable functions represented as a measurable bundle of Banach algebras with vector-valued lifting. We apply such representation to the spectrum of elements Banach--Kantorovich algebras.
We consider the "order" analogues of some classical notions of Banach space geometry: extreme points and convex hulls. A Hahn-Banach type separation result is obtained, which allows us to establish an "order" Krein-Milman Theorem. We show that the unit ball of any infinite dimensional reflexive space contains uncountably many order extreme points, and investigate the set of positive norm-attaining functionals. Finally,we introduce the "solid" version of the Krein-Milman Property, and show it is equivalent to the Radon-Nikodym Property.
Several recent papers investigated unbounded and statistical versions of order convergence and topology convergence in locally solid Riesz space. In this papers, we study the statistical unbounded order and topology convergence in Riesz spaces and Banach lattices. In particular, we study the relationship of those convergence and characterize order continuous, KB, reflexive Banach lattices in terms of these convergence.
We show that if the conclusion of the well known Stampacchia Theorem, on variational inequalities, holds on a Banach space X, then X is isomorphic to a Hilbert space. Motivated by this we obtain a relevant result concerning self-dual Banach spaces and investigate some connections between existing notions of orthogonality and self-duality. Moreover, we revisit the notion of the cosine of a linear operator and show that it can be used to characterize Hilbert space structure. Finally, we present some consequences of our results to quadratic forms and to evolution triples.
Suppose $X$ is a locally solid vector lattice. It is known that there are several non-equivalent notions for compact operators on $X$. Furthermore, notion of the $AM$-property in $X$ as an extension for the $AM$-spaces in Banach lattices has been considered, recently. In this paper, we establish a variant of the known Krengel's theorem for different types of compact operators between locally solid vector lattices.
We show that the solid hull of every weakly precompact set of a Banach lattice $E$ is weakly precompact if and only if every order interval in $E$ is weakly precompact, or equivalently, if and only if every disjoint weakly compact set is weakly precompact. Some results on the domination property for weakly precompact positive operators are obtained. Among other things, we show that, for a pair of Banach lattices $E$ and $F$ with $E$ $σ$-Dedekind complete, every positive operator from $E$ to $F$ dominated by a weakly precompact operator is weakly precompact if and only if either the norm of $E^…
In this paper, we study some geometric properties in Banach lattices and the class of almost limited completely continuous operators. For example, we study Banach lattices with the property (d) and we give a new characterization of this property concerning the solid hull of almost limited sets.
In 1924, S. Banach and A. Tarski proved an astonishing, yet rather counterintuitive paradox: given a solid ball in $\mathbb{R}^3$, it is possible to partition it into finitely many pieces and reassemble them to form two solid balls, each identical in size to the first. When this paradox is applied to 3-dimensional space it does go against our intuition, but very often our intuition is flawed. The aim of the paper is to provide a comprehensive proof of the Banach-Tarski paradox, expanding in between the lines of the original volume. We explore the notions of paradoxical and equidecomposable set…
Let $E$ be a locally convex Hausdorff space satisfying the convex compact property and let $(T_x)_{x \in \mathbb{R}^d}$ be a locally equicontinuous $C_0$-group of linear continuous operators on $E$. In this article, we show that if $E$ is quasinormable, then the space of smooth vectors in $E$ associated to $(T_x)_{x \in \mathbb{R}^d}$ is also quasinormable. In particular, we obtain that the space of smooth vectors associated to a $C_0$-group on a Banach space is always quasinormable. As an application, we show that the translation-invariant Fréchet spaces of smooth functions of type $\mathcal{…
Suppose $X$ is a locally solid vector lattice. In this paper, we introduce the notion "$AM$-property" in $X$ as an extension for $AM$-spaces in the category of all Banach lattices. With the aid of this concept, we characterize spaces in which bounded sets and order bounded sets agree. This, in turn, characterizes conditions under which each class of bounded operators on $X$ is order bounded and vice versa. Also, we show that under some natural assumptions, different types of bounded order bounded operators on $X$ have the Lebesgue or Levi property if and only if so is $X$.
Suppose $X$ is a locally solid vector lattice. It is known that there are several non-equivalent spaces of bounded operators on $X$. In this paper, we consider some situations under which these classes of bounded operators form locally solid vector lattices. In addition, we generalize some notions of $uaw$-Dunford-Pettis operators and $uaw$-compact operators defined on a Banach lattice to general theme of locally solid vector lattices. With the aid of appropriate topologies, we investigate some relations between topological and lattice structures of these operators. In particular, we character…
We determine the solid hull and solid core of weighted Banach spaces $H_v^\infty$ of analytic functions $f$ such that $v|f|$ is bounded, both in the case of the holomorphic functions on the disc and on the whole complex plane, for a very general class of radial weights $v$. Precise results are presented for concrete weights on the disc that could not be treated before. It is also shown that if $H_v^\infty$ is solid, then the monomials are an (unconditional) basis of the closure of the polynomials in $H_v^\infty$. As a consequence $H_v^\infty$ does not coincide with its solid hull and core in t…
We prove a transference principle for general (i.e., not necessarily bounded) strongly continuous groups on Banach spaces. If the Banach space has the UMD property, the transference principle leads to estimates for the functional calculus of the group generator. In the Hilbert space case, the results cover classical theorems of McIntosh and Boyadzhiev-de Laubenfels; in the UMD case they are analogues of classical results by Hieber and Pruess. By using functional calculus methods, consequences for sectorial operators are derived. For instance it is proved, that every generator of a cosine funct…
Schur's test states that if $K:X\times Y\to\mathbb{C}$ satisfies $\int_Y |K(x,y)|dν(y)\leq C$ and $\int_X |K(x,y)|dμ(x)\leq C$, then the associated integral operator acts boundedly on $L^p$ for all $p\in [1,\infty]$. We derive a variant of this result ensuring boundedness on the (weighted) mixed-norm Lebesgue spaces $L_w^{p,q}$ for all $p,q\in [1,\infty]$. For non-negative integral kernels our criterion is sharp; i.e., it is satisfied if and only if the integral operator acts boundedly on all of the mixed-norm Lebesgue spaces. Motivated by this criterion, we introduce solid Banach modules $\ma…
We obtain Gabor frame characterisations of modulation spaces defined via a class of translation-modulation invariant Banach spaces of distributions that was recently introduced in $[10]$. We show that these spaces admit an atomic decomposition through Gabor expansions and that they are characterised by summability properties of their Gabor coefficients. Furthermore, we construct a large space of admissible windows. This generalises several fundamental results for the classical modulation spaces $ M^{p,q}_{w}$. Due to the absence of solidity assumptions on the Banach spaces defining these modul…
We define new symbol classes for pseudodifferntial operators and investigate their pseudodifferential calculus. The symbol classes are parametrized by commutative convolution algebras. To every solid convolution algebra over a lattice we associate a symbol class. Then every operator with such a symbol is almost diagonal with respect to special wave packets (coherent states or Gabor frames), and the rate of almost diagonalization is described precisely by the underlying convolution algebra. Furthermore, the corresponding class of pseudodifferential operators is a Banach algebra of bounded opera…
Let ${\cal{M}}$ be a complete Riemannian manifold with Ricci curvature bounded below and Laplace operator $Δ$. The paper develops a functional calculus for the cosine family $\cos(t\sqrt Δ)$ which is associated with waves that travel at unit speed. If $f$ is holomorphic on a Venturi shaped region, and $z^kf(z)$ is bounded for some positive integer $k$, then $f({\sqrt Δ})$ defines a bounded linear operator on $L^p({\cal{M}})$ for some $p>2$. For Jacobi hypergroups with invariant measure $m$ the generalized Fourier transform of $f\in L^1(m)$ gives $\hat f\in H^\infty (Σ_ω)$ for some strip $Σ_ω$.…
