Very recently a new hadronic structure around $3.98$ GeV was observed in BESIII experiment. From its decay modes, it is reasonable for people to assign it to the category of exotic state, say $Z^+_{cs}$, the stranged-parter of $Z_{c}(3900)$. This finding indicates for the first time the exotic state with strange quark in charm sector, and hence has a peculiar importance. By virtue of the QCD Sum Rule technique, we analyze the $Z^+_{cs}$ about its possible configuration and physical properties, and find it could be configured as a mixture of two types of structures, $[1_c]_{\bar{c} u}\otimes[1_c]_{\bar{s} c}$ and $[1_c]_{\bar{c} c}\otimes[1_c]_{\bar{s} u}$, or $[3_c]_{\bar{c} u}\otimes[\bar{3}_c]_{\bar{s} c}$ and $[3_c]_{\bar{c} c}\otimes[\bar{3}_c]_{\bar{s} u}$, with $J^P=1^+$. Physically, it then appears to be the emergence of a compound of four possible currents in each configuration, which tells the single current evaluation of hadron spectroscopy and their decay properties are sometimes not enough. We find in both cases the energy spectra may fit well with the experimental observation, i.e. $3.98$ GeV, within the uncertainties, while noted the former is not favored by vector meson exchange model. Various $Z^+_{cs}(3980)$ decay modes are evaluated, which are critical for pinning down its configuration and left for experimental verification. We also predict the mass of $Z^0_{cs}$, the neutral partner of $Z^+_{cs}(3980)$, and analyze its dominant decay probabilities.
We discuss an alternative for Baryon-violating six quarks transitions, in the contest of low scale string theory. In particular, with $M_{S}=10÷10^{3}\rm TeV$, such a transition can be mediated by two color-triplets,through a quartic coupling with down-quarks,generated by exotic instantons, in a calculable and controllable way. We show how FCNCs limits on color-triplet massare well compatible with $n-\bar{n}$ oscillation ones. If a $n-\bar{n}$ transition were found, this would be an indirect hint for our model. This would strongly motivate researches of direct channels in proton-proton collide…
In this short review we present and discuss all the experimental information about the charged exotic charmonium states, which have been observed over the last five years. We try to understand their properties such as masses and decay widths with QCD sum rules. We describe this method, show the results and compare them with the experimental data and with other theoretical approaches.
We argue that the electroproduction of exotic particles is a useful tool for study of their partonic structure. In the case of hybrid mesons, the magnitude of their cross sections shows that they are accessible for measurements in existing electroproduction experiments.
The color anti-triplet triquark $q\bar{q}\bar{q}$ is considered as a compact component in the tetraquark structure $cq\bar{q}\bar{q}$ of exotic $D_{s}$ mesons. We discuss the mass spectrum and the flavor mixing of the triquarks by using the instanton induced interaction and the one-gluon exchange potentials. As a characteristic property of the triquark, we investigate the isospin violation. It is shown that the flavor $\bar{\bf 3}$ (isosinglet) and $\bf 6$ (isotriplet) states may be strongly mixed and then are identified with $D_{s}(2632)$.
A new analysis is performed in QCD sum rule for the lightest negative parity baryon Lambda (1405). Mixings of three-quark and five-quark Fock components are taken into account. Terms containing up to dimension 12 condensates are computed in the operator product expansion. It is found that the sum rule gives much stronger coupling of Lambda* to the five-quark operator so that the five-quark components occupy about 90% of Lambda (1405).
Baryons of the type Qqqqq-bar (where Q = c,b and q = u,d,s quarks) forming anti-decapenta (15)-plets with spin-parity one half-plus are predicted on simple theoretical considerations. The lightest members of these multiplets are explicitly exotic doublets cuuds-bar, cudds-bar with mass about 2420 MeV, and buuds-bar, budds-bar with mass about 5750 MeV, only 130 MeV heavier than Lambda_c and Lambda_b, respectively, and thus stable against strong decays. Although the production rate is probably very low, these remarkable pentaquarks can be looked for at LHC, Fermilab, B-factories, RHIC and elsewh…
We discuss a mechanism by which a set of $q\bar q$-states mixes with an exotic one, so that the exotic state accumulates the widths of the overlapping $\bar qq$ resonances. The broad state created this way acts as a 'locking' state for the others. Using results of a previous analysis of the $(IJ^{PC}=00^{++})$-wave, we estimate the mean radius squared of the broad state $f_0 (1530^{+90}_{-250})$; it appears to be distinctly larger than the mean squared radii of the locked narrow states. This supports an idea about the constructive role of broad states in forming the confinement barrier.
We demonstrate that the azimuthal dependence of central meson production in hadronic collisions, when suitably binned, provides unambiguous tests of whether the Pomeron couples like a conserved vector-current to protons. We discuss the possibility of discriminating between q-qbar and glueball production in such processes. Our predictions apply also to meson production in tagged two-photon events at electron--positron colliders and to vector-meson production in ep collisions at HERA.
Using the QCD sum rules we test if the new narrow structure, the X(4350) recently observed by the Belle Collaboration, can be described as a $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$ exotic $D_s^*D_{s0}^*$ molecular state. We consider the contributions of condensates up to dimension eight, we work at leading order in $α_s$ and we keep terms which are linear in the strange quark mass $m_s$. The mass obtained for such state is $m_{D_s^*{D}_{s0}^*}=(5.05\pm 0.19)$ GeV. We also consider a molecular $1^{-+}, D^{*}{D}_0^{*}$ current and we obtain $m_{D^*{D}_0^*}=(4.92\pm 0.08)$ GeV. We conclude that it is not possible to des…
While the conventional searches for the Higgs boson focus on its decays to Standard Model (SM) particles: gamma gamma, ZZ, WW, bb and tau tau, in this study, we explore the decays A --> HZ or H --> AZ. Such decays could appear in the exotic decay of the observed SM-like Higgs h --> AZ with a light A, or for extra Higgses in beyond the SM new physics scenarios with an extended Higgs sector. We study the exclusion bounds as well as discovery reach at the LHC for various combinations of (m_A, m_H) for the process: gg --> A/H --> HZ/AZ --> bbll for l =e, mu. We find that for 14 TeV LHC with 300 fb…
Stimulated by the recent observation of the exotic $X(5568)$ state by D0 Collaboration, we study the four-quark system $us\bar{b}\bar{d}$ with quantum numbers $J^P=0^+$ in the framework of chiral quark model. Two structures, diquark-antidiquark and meson-meson, with all possible color configurations are investigated by using Gaussian expansion method. The results show that energies of the tetraquark states with diquark-antiquark structure are too high to the candidate of $X(5568)$, and no molecular structure can be formed in our calculations. The calculation is also extended to the four-quark …
We investigate the proposal that primary cosmic rays of energy above the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuzmin cutoff are exotic massive strongly interacting particles (uhecrons). We study the properties of air showers produced by uhecrons and find that masses in excess of about 50 GeV are inconsistent with the highest energy event observed. We also estimate that with sufficient statistics a uhecron of mass as low as 10 GeV may be distinguished from a proton.
Agreement between theoretical calculations of atomic structure and spectroscopic measurements is used to constrain possible contribution of exotic spin-dependent interactions between electrons to the energy differences between states in helium-4. In particular, constraints on dipole-dipole interactions associated with the exchange of pseudoscalar bosons (such as axions or axion-like particles, ALPs) with masses $10^{-2}~{\rm eV} \lesssim m \lesssim 10^{4}~{\rm eV}$ are improved by a factor of $\sim 100$. The first atomic-scale constraints on several exotic velocity-dependent dipole-dipole inte…
Based on the fact that the long expected pentaquark which possesses the exotic quantum numbers of $B=1$ and $S=1$ was not experimentally found, although exotic states of $XYZ$ have been observed recently, we conjecture that the heavy flavors may play an important role in stabilizing the hadronic structures beyond the traditional $q\bar q$ and $qqq$ composites.
I review here the most recent results about the observation and the study of hadronic bound states that do not fit well in the standard quarkonium picture. Several new states have been observed in the last few years, at B-, tau-Factories and hadron colliders. For most of them, quantum number determinations are available and allow to develop the basis of a new spectroscopy based on exotic compounds like tetraquarks or meson molecules. Nonetheless, there is still a lot of work to do to complete the picture.
We confirm our previous prediction of a $d^*$ state with $I(J^P)=0(3^+)$ [Phys. Rev. C 60, 045203 (1999)] and report for the first time based on a microscopic calculation that $d^*$ is a hexaquark dominated exotic state as it has about 2/3 hidden color (CC) configurations. By performing a more elaborate dynamical coupled-channels investigation of the $ΔΔ$-CC system within the framework of resonating group method (RGM) in a chiral quark model, we found that the $d^*$ state has a mass of about 2.38-2.42 GeV, a root-mean-square radius (RMS) of 0.76-0.88 fm, and a CC fraction of 66%-68%. The last …
We investigate how exotic differential structures may reveal themselves in particle physics. The analysis is based on the A. Connes' construction of the standard model. It is shown that, if one of the copies of the spacetime manifold is equipped with an exotic differential structure, compact object of geometric origin may exist even if the spacetime is topologically trivial. Possible implications are discussed. An $SU(3)\otimes SU(2)\otimes U(1)$ gauge model is constructed. This model may not be realistic but it shows what kind of physical phenomena might be expected due to the existence of ex…
Given presently known empirical information about the exotic Theta+ baryon, we analyze possible properties of its SU(3)F partners, paying special attention to the nonstrange member of the antidecuplet N*. The modified PWA analysis presents two candidate masses, 1680 MeV and 1730 MeV. In both cases the N* should be highly inelastic. The theoretical analysis, based on the soliton picture and assumption of Gamma(Theta+) < 5 MeV, shows that most probably Gamma(N*) < 30 MeV. Similar analysis for Xi3/2 predicts its width to be not more than about 10 MeV. Our results suggest several directions for ex…
We investigate the $η\bar{K}K^*$ three body system in order to look for possible $I^G(J^{PC})=0^+(1^{-+})$ exotic states in the framework of the fixed center approximation to the Faddeev equation. We assume the scattering of $η$ on a clusterized system $\bar{K}K^*$, which is known to generate the $f_1(1285)$, or a $\bar{K}$ on a clusterized system $ηK^*$, which is shown to generate the $K_1(1270)$. In the case of the $η$-$(\bar{K}K^*)_{f_1(1285)}$ scattering, we find evidence of a bound state $I^G(J^{PC})=0^+(1^{-+})$ below the $η{f_1(1285)}$ threshold with mass around 1700 MeV and width about…
We propose to use high-energy exclusive reactions for probing internal structure of exotic hadron candidates. First, the constituent counting rule of perturbative QCD can be used for finding internal configurations of an exotic hadron candidate. It is because the number of constituents ($n$), which participate in the exclusive reaction, is found by the scaling behavior of the cross section $dσ/dt \propto 1/s^{n-2}$ at large momentum transfer, where $s$ is the center-of-mass energy squared. As an example, we show that the internal structure of $Λ\, (1405)$ should be found, for example, by the r…
We present the complete history of structure formation in a simple dissipative dark-sector model. The model has only two particles: a dark electron, which is a subdominant component of dark matter, and a dark photon. Dark-electron perturbations grow from primordial overdensities, become non-linear, and form dense dark galaxies. Bremsstrahlung cooling leads to fragmentation of the dark-electron halos into clumps that vary in size from a few to millions of solar masses, depending on the particle model parameters. In particular, we show that asymmetric dark stars and black holes form within the M…
Generating small sterile neutrino masses via the same seesaw mechanism that suppresses active neutrino masses requires a specific structure in the neutral fermion mass matrix. We present a model where this structure is enforced by a new U(1)' gauge symmetry, spontaneously broken at the TeV scale. In order not to spoil the neutrino structure, the additional fermions necessary for anomaly cancellations need to carry exotic charges, and turn out to form multicomponent cold dark matter. The active-sterile mixing then connects the new particles and the Standard Model---opening a new portal in addit…
It is proposed that fragmentation functions should be used to identify exotic hadrons. As an example, fragmentation functions of the scalar meson f_0(980) are investigated. It is pointed out that the second moments and functional forms of the u- and s-quark fragmentation functions can distinguish the tetraquark structure from $q\bar q$. By the global analysis of f_0 (980) production data in electron-positron annihilation, its fragmentation functions and their uncertainties are determined. It is found that the current available data are not sufficient to determine its internal structure, while …
