This paper summarizes the project work on asteroseismology at the ERASMUS+ GATE 2020 Summer school on space satellite data. The aim was to do a global asteroseismic analysis of KIC 5006817 and quantify its stellar properties using the high-quality, state of the art space missions data. We employed the aperture photometry to analyze the data from the Kepler space telescope and the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Using the lightkurve Python package, we have derived the asteroseismic parameters and calculated the stellar parameters using the scaling relations. Our analysis of KIC 5006817 confirmed its classification as a heartbeat binary. The rich oscillation spectrum facilitate estimating power excess ($ν_{\rm max}$) at 145.50$\pm$0.50 $μ$Hz and large frequency separation ($Δν$) to be 11.63$\pm$0.10 $μ$Hz. Our results showed that the primary component is a low-luminosity, red-giant branch star with a mass, radius, surface gravity, and luminosity of 1.53$\pm$0.07 M$_\odot$, 5.91$\pm$0.12 R$_\odot$, 3.08$\pm$0.01 dex, and 19.66$\pm$0.73 L$_\odot$, respectively. The orbital period of the system is 94.83$\pm$0.05 d.
We briefly review the current status of the study of tidally excited oscillations (TEOs) in heartbeat binary stars. Particular attention is paid to correctly extracting the TEOs when the Fourier spectrum also contains other types of pulsations and variabilities. We then focus on the theoretical modeling of the TEO amplitudes and phases. Pulsation amplitude can be modeled by a statistical approach, and pulsation phases can help to identify the azimuthal number m of pulsation modes. We verify the results by an ensemble study of ten systems. We discuss some future prospects, including the secular…
Theory suggests that the orbits of a large fraction of binary systems, including planet-star binary systems, shrink by few orders of magnitude after formation. But so far, only one hot Jupiter with tidally-driven orbital decay has been found by transit timing variations. We propose to search for orbital decay companions in heartbeat star systems because the orbital angular momentum is effectively transferred to the host star causing tidal dissipation. KIC 3766353 is one of the heartbeat stars with tidally excited oscillations. We acquired the primary and the secondary eclipse time variations f…
Heartbeat stars are a class of eccentric binary stars with short-period orbits and characteristic "heartbeat" signals in their light curves at periastron, caused primarily by tidal distortion. In many heartbeat stars, tidally excited oscillations can be observed throughout the orbit, with frequencies at exact integer multiples of the orbital frequency. Here, we characterize the tidally excited oscillations in the heartbeat stars KIC 6117415, KIC 11494130, and KIC 5790807. Using Kepler light curves and radial velocity measurements, we first model the heartbeat stars using the binary modeling so…
Heartbeat stars are eccentric (e > 0.2) ellipsoidal variables whose light curves resemble a cardiogram. We present the observations and corresponding model of KIC 3749404, a highly eccentric (e = 0.66), short period (P = 20.3 d) heartbeat star with tidally induced pulsations. A binary star model was created using PHOEBE, which we modified to include tidally induced pulsations and Doppler boosting. The morphology of the photometric periastron variation (heartbeat) depends strongly on the eccentricity, inclination and argument of periastron. We show that the inclusion of tidally induced pulsatio…
We present the analysis of KIC 8164262, a heartbeat star with a high-amplitude (~1 mmag), tidally resonant pulsation (a mode in resonance with the orbit) at 229 times the orbital frequency and a plethora of tidally induced g-mode pulsations (modes excited by the orbit). The analysis combines Kepler light curves with follow-up spectroscopic data from the Keck telescope, KPNO (Kitt Peak National Observatory) 4-m Mayal telescope and the 2.7-m telescope at the McDonald observatory. We apply the binary modelling software, PHOEBE, to the Kepler light curve and radial velocity data to determine a det…
The high precision data obtained by the {\it Kepler} satellite allows us to detect hybrid type pulsator candidates more accurately than the data obtained by ground-based observations. In this study, we present preliminary results on the new analysis of the {\it Kepler} light curve and high resolution spectroscopic observations of pulsating Am star KIC\,9204718. Our tentative analysis therefore show that the star has hybrid pulsational characteristics.
Improving the stellar age determination through joint modeling of binarity and asteroseismology -- Grid modeling of the seismic red-giant binary KIC 9163796
We perform a search for rapidly oscillating Ap stars in the Kepler long-cadence data, where true oscillations above the Nyquist limit of 283.21 μHz can be reliably distinguished from aliases as a consequence of the barycentric time corrections applied to the Kepler data. We find evidence for rapid oscillations in six stars: KIC 6631188, KIC 7018170, KIC 10685175, KIC 11031749, KIC 11296437 and KIC 11409673, and identify each star as chemically peculiar through either pre-existing classifications or spectroscopic measurements. For each star, we identify the principal pulsation mode, and are abl…
Apsidal motion is a gradual shift in the position of periastron. The impact of dynamic tides on apsidal motion has long been debated, because the contribution could not be quantified due to the lack of high quality observations. KIC 4544587 with tidally excited oscillations has been observed by \textit{Kepler} high-precision photometric data based on long time baseline and short-cadence schema. In this paper, we compute the rate of apsidal motion that arises from the dynamic tides as $19.05\pm 1.70$ mrad yr$^{-1}$ via tracking the orbital phase shifts of tidally excited oscillations. We also c…
Asteroseismology is a powerful tool for probing stellar interiors and determining stellar fundamental parameters. In previous works, $χ^2$-minimization method is usually used to find the best matching model to characterize observations. In this letter, we adopt the $χ^2$-minimization method but only using the observed high-precision oscillation to constrain theoretical models for solar-like oscillating star KIC 6225718, which is observed by \kepler\ satellite. We also take into account the influence of model precision. Finally, we find that the time resolution of stellar evolution can not be i…
Determining fundamental properties of stars through stellar modeling has improved substantially due to recent advances in asteroseismology. Thanks to the unprecedented data quality obtained by space missions, particularly CoRoT and Kepler, invaluable information is extracted from the high-precision stellar oscillation frequencies, which provide very strong constraints on possible stellar models for a given set of classical observations. In this work, we have characterized two relatively faint stars, KIC10920273 and KIC11395018, using oscillation data from Kepler photometry and atmospheric cons…
We present an asteroseismic analysis of the Kepler light curve of KIC 8263801, a red-giant star in the open cluster NGC 6866 that has previously been reported to be a helium-burning red-clump star. We extracted the frequencies of the radial and quadrupole modes from its frequency power spectrum and determined its properties using a grid of evolutionary models constructed with MESA. The oscillation frequencies were calculated using the GYRE code and the surface term was corrected using the Ball & Gizon(2014) prescription. We find that the star has a mass of $M/M_{\odot} = 1.793\pm 0.072$, age $…
We calculate precise stellar radii and surface gravities from the asteroseismic analysis of over 500 solar-type pulsating stars observed by the Kepler space telescope. These physical stellar properties are compared with those given in the Kepler Input Catalog (KIC), determined from ground-based multi-color photometry. For the stars in our sample, we find general agreement but we detect an average overestimation bias of 0.23 dex in the KIC determination of log (g) for stars with log (g)_KIC > 4.0 dex, and a resultant underestimation bias of up to 50% in the KIC radii estimates for stars with R_…
The subdwarf-B pulsator, KIC 10553698A, is one of 16 such objects observed with one-minute sampling for most of the duration of the Kepler Mission. Like most of these stars, it displays a rich g-mode pulsation spectrum with several clear multiplets that maintain regular frequency splitting. We identify these pulsation modes as components of rotationally split multiplets in a star rotating with a period of about 41 d. From 162 clearly significant periodicities, we are able to identify 156 as likely components of l=1 or l=2 multiplets. For the first time we are able to detect l=1 modes that inte…
We study the $δ$ Scuti -- red giant binary KIC9773821, the first double-pulsator binary of its kind. It was observed by \textit{Kepler} during its four-year mission. Our aims are to ascertain whether the system is bound, rather than a chance alignment, and to identify the evolutionary state of the red giant via asteroseismology. An extension of these aims is to determine a dynamical mass and an age prior for a $δ$ Sct star, which may permit mode identification via further asteroseismic modelling. We determine spectroscopic parameters and radial velocities (RVs) for the red giant component usin…
The evolved main-sequence Sun-like stars KIC 10273246 (F-type) and KIC 10920273 (G-type) were observed with the NASA Kepler satellite for approximately ten months with a duty cycle in excess of 90%. Such continuous and long observations are unprecedented for solar-type stars other than the Sun. We aimed mainly at extracting estimates of p-mode frequencies - as well as of other individual mode parameters - from the power spectra of the light curves of both stars, thus providing scope for a full seismic characterization. The light curves were corrected for instrumental effects in a manner indepe…
Context. This research paper contains light curve modelling, spectroscopy and detailed asteroseismic studies for four out of five in total semidetached eclipsing binaries with a delta Scuti component, that have been detected to date through Kepler mission, namely KIC 06669809, KIC 10581918, KIC 10619109 and KIC 11175495. Aims. The goal is to study the pulsational characteristics of the oscillating stars of the systems as well as to estimate their absolute parameters and enrich the so far poor sample of this kind of systems. Methods. Ground based spectroscopic observations provide the means to …
Previously, a series of tidally-excited oscillations were discovered in the eccentric eclipsing binary KIC 3230227. The pulsation amplitudes and phases suggest the observed oscillations are prograde quadruple modes. In this paper, we refine the analysis and extract more oscillation frequencies. We also study the temporal variations of amplitudes and phases and show that almost all modes have stable phases and amplitudes. We then focus on the non-orbital-harmonic oscillations. We consider two formation mechanisms: 1) nonlinear response of the surface convective layer, and 2) nonlinear three/mul…
We analyze an asteroseismic binary system: KIC 7107778, a non-eclipsing, unresolved target, with solar-like oscillations in both components. We used \emph{Kepler} short cadence time series spanning nearly two years to obtain the power spectrum. Oscillation mode parameters were determined using Bayesian inference and a nested sampling Monte Carlo algorithm with the \texttt{DIAMONDS} package. The power profiles of the two components fully overlap, indicating their close similarity. We modelled the two stars with \texttt{MESA} and calculated oscillation frequencies with \texttt{GYRE}. Stellar fun…
We determined the orbits and stellar parameters of three eccentric eclipsing binaries by light curve solutions of their Kepler data. KIC 10992733 and KIC 5632781 undergo total eclipses while KIC 10026136 reveals partial eclipses. The components of the targets are G and K stars. KIC 10992733 exhibited variations which were attributed to variable visibility of spot(s) on asynchronously rotating component. KIC 5632781 and KIC 1002613 reveal tidally-induced features at periastron, i.e. they might be considered as eclipsing heartbeat stars. The characteristics of the periastron features (shape, wid…
DBV stars are pulsating white dwarfs with atmospheres rich in He. Asteroseismology of DBV stars can provide valuable clues about the origin, structure and evolution of hydrogen-deficient white dwarfs, and may allow to study neutrino and axion physics. Recently, a new DBV star, KIC 8626021, has been discovered in the field of the \emph{Kepler} spacecraft. It is expected that further monitoring of this star in the next years will enable astronomers to determine its detailed asteroseismic profile. We perform an asteroseismological analysis of KIC 8626021 on the basis of fully evolutionary DB whit…
We present the Kepler light curve of KIC 4552982, the first ZZ Ceti (hydrogen-atmosphere pulsating white dwarf star) discovered in the Kepler field of view. Our data span more than 1.5 years with a 86% duty cycle, making it the longest pseudo-continuous light curve ever recorded for a ZZ Ceti. This extensive data set provides the most complete coverage to-date of amplitude and frequency variations in a cool ZZ Ceti. We detect 20 independent frequencies of variability in the data that we compare with asteroseismic models to demonstrate that this star has a mass M$_*$ > 0.6 M$_{\rm Sun}$. We ide…
Tidal dissipation in binary star and planetary systems is poorly understood. Fortunately, eccentric binaries known as heartbeat stars often exhibit tidally excited oscillations, providing observable diagnostics of tidal circularization mechanisms and timescales. We apply tidal theories to observations of the heartbeat star KIC 8164262, which contains an F-type primary in a very eccentric orbit that exhibits a prominent tidally excited oscillation. We demonstrate that the prominent oscillation is unlikely to result from a chance resonance between tidal forcing and a stellar oscillation mode. Ho…
Observations from the Kepler satellite were recently published for three bright G-type stars, which were monitored during the first 33.5d of science operations. One of these stars, KIC 11026764, exhibits a characteristic pattern of oscillation frequencies suggesting that the star has evolved significantly. We have derived initial estimates of the properties of KIC 11026764 from the oscillation frequencies observed by Kepler, combined with ground-based spectroscopic data. We present preliminary results from detailed modeling of this star, employing a variety of independent codes and analyses th…
Tidal forces in eccentric binary stars known as heartbeat stars excite detectable oscillations that shed light on the processes of tidal synchronization and circularization. We examine the pulsation phases of tidally excited oscillations (TEOs) in heartbeat binary systems. The target list includes four published heartbeat binaries and four additional systems observed by {\it Kepler}. To the first order, the pulsation phases of TEOs can be explained by the geometric effect of the dominant $l=2$, $m=0$, or $\pm 2$ modes assuming pulsations are adiabatic. We found that this simple theoretical int…
KIC 5773205 is the least luminous eclipsing M dwarf found in the Villanova catalog of eclipsing binaries detected by the {\it Kepler} mission. We processed and analyzed the three available quarters of mission data for this star and discovered a persistent periodic variation of the light curve with a period, which is in exact 4:5 commensurability to the orbital period. Three routes of interpretation are considered: 1) non-radial pulsations excited by the tidal interaction at a specific eigenfrequency; 2) a high-order spin-orbit resonance caused by the tides; 3) an ellipsoidal deformation caused…
We present an asteroseismological analysis of four ZZ Ceti stars observed with \emph{Kepler}: GD 1212, SDSS J113655.17+040952.6, KIC 11911480 and KIC 4552982, based on a grid of full evolutionary models of DA white dwarf stars. We employ a grid of carbon-oxygen core white dwarfs models, characterized by a detailed and consistent chemical inner profile for the core and the envelope. In addition to the observed periods, we take into account other information from the observational data, as amplitudes, rotational splittings and period spacing, as well as photometry and spectroscopy. For each star…
KOI-3890 is a highly eccentric, 153-day period eclipsing, single-lined spectroscopic binary system containing a red-giant star showing solar-like oscillations alongside tidal interactions. The combination of transit photometry, radial velocity observations, and asteroseismology have enabled the detailed characterisation of both the red-giant primary and the M-dwarf companion, along with the tidal interaction and the geometry of the system. The stellar parameters of the red-giant primary are determined through the use of asteroseismology and grid-based modelling to give a mass and radius of $M_…
The candidate SX Phe star KIC 11754974 shows a remarkably high number of combination frequencies in the Fourier amplitude spectrum: 123 of the 166 frequencies in our multi-frequency fit are linear combinations of independent modes. Predictable patterns in frequency spacings are seen in the Fourier transform of the light curve. We present an analysis of 180 d of short-cadence Kepler photometry and of new spectroscopic data for this evolved, late A-type star. We infer from the 1150-d, long-cadence light curve, and in two different ways, that our target is the primary of a 343-d, non-eclipsing bi…
The present work contains light curve, spectroscopic and asteroseismic analyses for KIC 04851217 and KIC 10686876. These systems are detached eclipsing binaries hosting a pulsating component of delta Scuti type and have been observed with the unprecedented accuracy of the Kepler space telescope. Using ground based spectroscopic observations, the spectral types of the primary components of the systems were estimated as A6V and A5V for KIC 04851217 and KIC 10686876, respectively, with an uncertainty of one subclass. The present spectral classification together with literature radial velocities c…
We determined the orbits and stellar parameters of three eccentric eclipsing binaries by light curve solutions of their Kepler data. KIC 8111622 and KIC 10518735 undergo total eclipses while KIC 8196180 reveals partial eclipses. The target components are G and K stars, excluding the primary of KIC 8196180 which is early F star. KIC 8196180 reveals well-visible tidally-induced feature at periastron, i.e. it is an eclipsing heartbeat star. The characteristics of the observed periastron feature (shape, width and amplitude) confirm the theoretical predictions. There are additional out-of-eclipse v…
Asteroseismology is a powerful tool to measure the fundamental properties of stars and probe their interiors. This is particularly efficient for red giants because their modes are well detectable and give information on their deep layers. However, the seismic relations used to infer the mass and radius of a star have been calibrated on the Sun. Therefore, it is crucial to assess their accuracy for red giants which are not perfectly homologous to it. We study eclipsing binaries with a giant component to test their validity. We identified 16 systems for which we intend to compare the dynamical m…
The eccentricity, periastron angle, orbital inclination, mass ratio, stellar temperatures and relative stellar radii of 12 eclipsing eccentric binaries were determined on the basis of Kepler data. The analysis of their out-of-eclipse variability led to the following results: (i) KIC 10490980 exhibits rotational (spot-type) variability; (ii) Four new heartbeat stars were found: KIC 9344623 and KIC 10296163, which have wide tidally induced light humps and KIC 9119405 and KIC 9673173, which have narrow "W-shape" features; (iii) KIC 4932691 shows oscillations with approximately the 18th harmonic o…
We present an asteroseismic approach to study the dynamics of the stellar interior in red-giant stars by asteroseismic inversion of the splittings induced by the stellar rotation on the oscillation frequencies. We show preliminary results obtained for the red giant KIC4448777 observed by the space mission Kepler.
Asteroseismology can be used to constrain some properties of dark-matter (DM) particles (Casanellas & Lopes, 2013). In this work, we performed an asteroseismic modelling of the main-sequence solar-like pulsator KIC 2009505 (also known as Dushera) in order to test the existence of DM particles with the characteristics that explain the recent results found in some of the DM direct detection experiments. We found that the presence of a convective core in KIC 2009504 is incompatible with the existence of some particular models of DM particles.
Asteroseismology of white dwarf (WD) stars is a powerful tool that allows to reveal the hidden chemical structure of WD and infer details about their evolution by comparing the observed periods with those obtained from stellar models. A recent asteroseismological study has reproduced the period spectrum of the helium rich pulsating WD KIC 08626021 with an unprecedented precision. The chemical structure derived from that analysis is notably different from that expected for a WD according to currently accepted formation channels, thus posing a challenge to the theory of stellar evolution. We exp…
We report on the ground-based follow-up program of spectroscopic and photometric observations of solar-like asteroseismic targets for the Kepler space mission. These stars constitute a large group of more than thousand objects which are the subject of an intensive study of the Kepler Asteroseismic Science Consortium Working Group 1 (KASC WG-1). The main goal of this coordinated research is the determination of the fundamental stellar atmospheric parameters, which are used for the computing of their asteroseismic models, as well as for the verification of the Kepler Input Catalogue (KIC).
In massive stars, rotation and oscillatory waves can have a tight interplay. In order to assess the importance of additional angular momentum transport mechanisms other than rotation, we compare the asteroseismic properties of a uniformly rotating model and a differentially rotating one. Accordingly, we employ the observed period spacing of 36 dipole g-modes in the Kepler $\sim3.2$ M$_\odot$ target KIC 7760680 to discriminate between these two models. We favor the uniformly rotating model, which fully satisfies all observational constraints. Therefore, efficient angular momentum transport by a…
KIC 3230227 is a short period ($P\approx 7.0$ days) eclipsing binary with a very eccentric orbit ($e=0.6$). From combined analysis of radial velocities and {\it Kepler} light curves, this system is found to be composed of two A-type stars, with masses of $M_1=1.84\pm 0.18M_{\odot}$, $M_2=1.73\pm 0.17M_{\odot}$ and radii of $R_1=2.01\pm 0.09R_{\odot}$, $R_2=1.68\pm 0.08 R_{\odot}$ for the primary and secondary, respectively. In addition to an eclipse, the binary light curve shows a brightening and dimming near periastron, making this a somewhat rare eclipsing heartbeat star system. After removi…
Hybrid $δ$ Scuti-$γ$ Doradus pulsating stars show acoustic ($p$) oscillation modes typical of $δ$ Scuti variable stars, and gravity ($g$) pulsation modes characteristic of $γ$ Doradus variable stars simultaneously excited. Observations from space missions like MOST, CoRoT, and \emph{Kepler} have revealed a large number of hybrid $δ$ Scuti-$γ$ Doradus pulsators, thus paving the way for a exciting new channel for asteroseismic studies. We perform a detailed asteroseismological modeling of five hybrid $δ$ Scuti-$γ$ Doradus stars. We employ a grid-based modeling approach to sound the internal stru…
Stellar magnetic fields are poorly understood but are known to be important for stellar evolution and exoplanet habitability. They drive stellar activity, which is the main observational constraint on theoretical models for magnetic field generation and evolution. Starspots are the main manifestation of the magnetic fields at the stellar surface. In this study we measure the variation of their latitude with time, called a butterfly diagram in the solar case, for the solar analogue HD 173701 (KIC 8006161). To that effect, we use Kepler data, to combine starspot rotation rates at different epoch…
We present revised properties for 196,468 stars observed by the NASA Kepler Mission and used in the analysis of Quarter 1-16 (Q1-Q16) data to detect and characterize transiting exoplanets. The catalog is based on a compilation of literature values for atmospheric properties (temperature, surface gravity, and metallicity) derived from different observational techniques (photometry, spectroscopy, asteroseismology, and exoplanet transits), which were then homogeneously fitted to a grid of Dartmouth stellar isochrones. We use broadband photometry and asteroseismology to characterize 11,532 Kepler …
We revisit the Tidally Excited Oscillations (TEOs) in the A-type, main-sequence, eccentric binary KOI-54, the prototype of heartbeat stars. Although the linear tidal response of the star is a series of orbital-harmonic frequencies which are not stellar eigenfrequencies, we show that the non-linearly excited non-orbital-harmonic TEOs are eigenmodes. By carefully choosing the modes which satisfy the mode-coupling selection rules, a period spacing ($ΔP$) pattern of quadrupole gravity modes ($ΔP \approx 2520-2535$ sec) can be discerned in the Fourier spectrum, with a detection significance level o…
Asteroseismology has started to provide constraints on stellar properties that will be essential to accurately reconstruct the history of the Milky Way. Here we look at the information content in data sets representing current and future space missions (CoRoT, Kepler, K2, TESS, and PLATO) for red giant stars. We describe techniques for extracting the information in the frequency power spectrum and apply these techniques to {\it Kepler} data sets of different observing length to represent the different space missions. We demonstrate that for KIC 12008916, a low-luminosity red giant branch star,…
The field of asteroseismology has enjoyed a large swath of data coming from recent missions (e.g., CoRoT, Kepler, K2). This wealth of new data has allowed the field to expand beyond the previous limitation of a few extremely bright and evolved stars. Asteroseismology relies on accurate surface measurements for boundary conditions, but the predicted physical parameters in the Kepler Input Catalog (KIC) are unreliable for hot stars. We present stellar parameters of 25 candidate pulsating B star candidates in the Kepler field. We use blue optical spectra to measure the projected rotational veloci…
The present work concerns the Asteroseismology of the Kepler detached eclipsing binary KIC 8504570. Particularly, it focuses on the pulsational behaviour of the oscillating component of this system and the estimation of its physical parameters in order to enrich the so far poor sample of this kind of systems. Using spectroscopic observations, the spectral type of the primary component was determined and used to create accurate light curves models and estimate its absolute parameters. The light curve residuals were subsequently analysed using Fourier transformation techniques to obtain the puls…
The Kepler mission has collected light curves for almost 4 years. The excellent quality of these data has allowed us to probe the structure and the dynamics of the stars using asteroseismology. With the length of data available, we can start to look for magnetic activity cycles. The Kepler data obtained for the F star, KIC 12009504, shows a rotation period of 9.5 days and additional variability that could be due to the magnetic activity of the star. Here we present recent and preliminary 3D global-scale dynamo simulations of this star with the ASH and STELEM codes, capturing a substantial port…
Asteroseismology provides a powerful way to constrain stellar parameters. Solar-like oscillations have been observed on subgiant stars with the \emph{Kepler\/} mission. The continuous and high-precision time series enables us to carry out a detailed asteroseismic study for these stars. We carry out data processing of two subgiants of spectral type G: KIC 6442183 and KIC 11137075 observed with the \emph{Kepler} mission, and perform seismic analysis for the two evolved stars. We estimate the values of global asteroseismic parameters: $Δν=64.9\pm 0.2 $ $μ$Hz and $ν_{\rm max}=1225 \pm 17$ $μ$Hz fo…
Context: Constraints on the internal rotation of red giants are now available thanks to asteroseismic observations. Preliminary comparisons with rotating stellar models indicate that an undetermined additional process for the internal transport of angular momentum is required in addition to purely hydrodynamic processes. Aims: We investigate how asteroseismic measurements of red giants can help us characterize the additional transport mechanism. Methods: We first determine the efficiency of the missing transport mechanism for the low-mass red giant KIC 7341231 by computing rotating models that…
High precision and long-lasting \emph{Kepler} data enabled us to estimate stellar properties with asteroseismology as an accurate tool. We performed asteroseismic analysis on six solar-like stars observed by the \emph{Kepler} mission: KIC 6064910, KIC 6766513, KIC 7107778, KIC 10079226, KIC 10147635 and KIC 12069127. The extraction of seismic information includes two parts. First, we obtained two global asteroseismic parameters, mean large separation $Δν$ and frequency of maximum power $ν_{\rm{max}}$, with autocorrelation function and collapsed autocorrelation function. Second, we extracted in…
The properties of the acoustic modes are sensitive to magnetic activity. The unprecedented long-term Kepler photometry, thus, allows stellar magnetic cycles to be studied through asteroseismology. We search for signatures of magnetic cycles in the seismic data of Kepler solar-type stars. We find evidence for periodic variations in the acoustic properties of about half of the 87 analysed stars. In these proceedings, we highlight the results obtained for two such stars, namely KIC 8006161 and KIC 5184732.
This paper reports the discovery of an Algol system KIC 10736223 that just past the rapid mass transfer stage. From the light curve and radial-velocity modelling we find KIC 10736223 to be a detached Algol system with the less-massive secondary nearly filling its Roche lobe. Based on the short-cadence Kepler data, we analyzed intrinsic oscillations of the pulsator and identified six secured independent $δ$ Scuti-type pulsation modes ($f_{1}$, $f_3$, $f_{9}$, $f_{19}$, $f_{42}$, and $f_{48}$). We compute two grids of theoretical models to reproduce the $δ$ Scuti freqiencies, and find fitting re…
We analysed solar-like oscillations in 1523 $\textit{Kepler}$ red giants which have previously been misclassified as subgiants, with predicted $ν_{\rm max}$ values (based on the Kepler Input Catalogue) between 280$μ$Hz to 700$μ$Hz. We report the discovery of 626 new oscillating red giants in our sample, in addition to 897 oscillators that were previously characterized by Hekker et al. (2011) from one quarter of $\textit{Kepler}$ data. Our sample increases the known number of oscillating low-luminosity red giants by $26\%$ (up to $\sim$ 1900 stars). About three quarters of our sample are classi…
