We investigate the Cauchy problem for linear elliptic operators with $C^\infty$-coefficients at a regular set $Ω\subset R^2$, which is a classical example of an ill-posed problem. The Cauchy data are given at the manifold $Γ\subset \partialΩ$ and our goal is to reconstruct the trace of the $H^1(Ω)$ solution of an elliptic equation at $\partial Ω/ Γ$.
The method proposed here composes the segmenting Mann iteration with a fixed point equation associated with the elliptic Cauchy problem. Our algorithm generalizes the iterative method developed by Maz'ya et al., who proposed a method based on solving successive well-posed mixed boundary value problems. We analyze the regularizing and convergence properties both theoretically and numerically.
This paper presents a regularization technique for the high order efficient numerical evaluation of nearly singular, principal-value, and finite-part Cauchy-type integral operators. By relying on the Cauchy formula, the Cauchy-Goursat theorem, and on-curve Taylor interpolations of the input density, the proposed methodology allows to recast the Cauchy and associated integral operators as smooth contour integrals. As such, they can be accurately evaluated everywhere in the complex plane -- including at problematic points near and on the contour -- by means of elementary quadrature rules. Applic…
In this paper, we are interested to an inverse Cauchy problem governed by the Stokes equation, called the data completion problem. It consists in determining the unspecified fluid velocity, or one of its components over a part of its boundary, by introducing given measurements on its remaining part. As it's known, this problem is one of the highly ill-posed problems in the Hadamard's sense \cite{had}, it is then an interesting challenge to carry out a numerical procedure for approximating their solutions, mostly in the particular case of noisy data. To solve this problem, we propose here a reg…
Two methods of level set type are proposed for solving the Cauchy problem for an elliptic equation. Convergence and stability results for both methods are proven, characterizing the iterative methods as regularization methods for this ill-posed problem. Some numerical experiments are presented, showing the efficiency of our approaches and verifying the convergence results.

In this paper we investigate the non-linear and ill-posed inverse problem of simultaneously identifying the conductivity and the reaction in diffuse optical tomography with noisy measurement data available on an accessible part of the boundary. We propose an energy functional method and the total variational regularization combining with the quadratic stabilizing term to formulate the identification problem to a PDEs constrained optimization problem. We show the stability of the proposed regularization method and the convergence of the finite element regularized solutions to the identification…
We investigate the Cauchy problem for a class of nonlinear elliptic operators with $C^\infty$-coefficients at a regular set $Ω\subset R^n$. The Cauchy data are given at a manifold $Γ\subset \partialΩ$ and our goal is to reconstruct the trace of the $H^1(Ω)$ solution of a nonlinear elliptic equation at $\partial Ω/ Γ$. We propose two iterative methods based on the segmenting Mann iteration applied to fixed point equations, which are closely related to the original problem. The first approach consists in obtaining a corresponding linear Cauchy problem and analyzing a linear fixed point equation;…

In the recent developments of regularization theory for inverse and ill-posed problems, a variational quasi-reversibility (QR) method has been designed to solve a class of time-reversed quasi-linear parabolic problems. Known as a PDE-based approach, this method relies on adding a suitable perturbing operator to the original problem and consequently, on gaining the corresponding fine stabilized operator, which leads us to a forward-like problem. In this work, we establish new conditional estimates for such operators to solve a prototypical Cauchy problem for elliptic equations. This problem is …

This work is devoted to the nonlinear inverse problem of identifying the reaction coefficient in an elliptic boundary value problem from single Cauchy data on a part of the boundary. We then examine simultaneously two elliptic boundary value problems generated from the available Cauchy data. The output least squares method with the Tikhonov regularization is applied to find approximations of the sought coefficient. We discretize the PDEs with piecewise linear finite elements. The stability and convergence of this technique are then established. A numerical experiment is presented to illustrate…

Source identification problems have multiple applications in engineering such as the identification of fissures in materials, determination of sources in electromagnetic fields or geophysical applications, detection of contaminant sources, among others. In this work we are concerned with the determination of a time-dependent source in a transport equation from noisy data measured at a fixed position. By means of Fourier techniques can be shown that the problem is ill-posed in the sense that the solution exists but it does not vary continuously with the data. A number of different techniques we…
