We consider the following Dirichlet problems for elliptic equations with singular drift $\mathbf{b}$: \[ \text{(a) } -\operatorname{div}(A \nabla u)+\operatorname{div}(u\mathbf{b})=f,\quad \text{(b) } -\operatorname{div}(A^T \nabla v)-\mathbf{b} \cdot \nabla v =g \quad \text{in } Ω, \] where $Ω$ is a bounded Lipschitz domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\geq 2$. Assuming that $\mathbf{b}\in L^{n,\infty}(Ω)^n$ has non-negative weak divergence in $Ω$, we establish existence and uniqueness of weak solution in $W^{1,2+\varepsilon}_0(Ω)$ of the problem (b) when $A$ is bounded and uniformly elliptic. As an application, we prove unique solvability of weak solution $u$ in $\bigcap_{q<2} W^{1,q}_0(Ω)$ for the problem (a) for every $f\in \bigcap_{q<2} W^{-1,q}(Ω)$.
We consider the Gel'fand problem, $$ \begin{cases} Δw_{\varepsilon}+\varepsilon^2 h e^{w_{\varepsilon}}=0\quad&\mbox{in}\quadΩ, w_{\varepsilon}=0\quad&\mbox{on}\quad\partialΩ, \end{cases} $$ where $h$ is a nonnegative function in ${Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^2}$. Under suitable assumptions on $h$ and $Ω$, we prove the local uniqueness of $m-$bubbling solutions for any $\varepsilon>0$ small enough.
We consider the following Chern-Simons equation, \begin{equation} \label{0.1} Δu+\frac 1{\varepsilon^2} e^u(1-e^u)=4π\sum_{i=1}^N δ_{p_i^\varepsilon},\quad \text{in}\quad Ω, \end{equation} where $Ω$ is a 2-dimensional flat torus, $\varepsilon>0$ is a coupling parameter and $δ_p$ stands for the Dirac measure concentrated at $p$. In this paper, we proved that the topological solutions of \eqref{0.1} are uniquely determined by the location of their vortices provided the coupling parameter $\varepsilon$ is small and the collapsing velocity of vortices $p_i^\varepsilon$ is slow enough or fast enoug…
In this paper we establish the uniqueness of a solution to a stationary convection-diffusion equation in divergence form with an exponentially summable generalized divergence-free drift.
We study the 2D Euler equation in a bounded simply-connected domain, and establish the local uniqueness of flow whose stream function $ψ_\varepsilon$ satisfies \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -\varepsilon^2Δψ_\varepsilon=\sum\limits_{i=1}^k \mathbf1_{B_δ(z_{0,i})}(ψ_\varepsilon-μ_{\varepsilon,i})_+^γ,\ \ \ & \text{in} \ Ω, ψ_\varepsilon=0,\ \ \ & \text{on} \ Ω, \end{cases} \end{equation*} with $\varepsilon\to 0^+$ the scale parameter of vortices, $γ\in(0,\infty)$, $Ω\subset \mathbb R^2$ a bounded simply connected Lipschitz domain, $z_{0,i}\inΩ$ the limiting location of $i^{\text{th}}$ vortex, …
We study the existence and long-time asymptotics of weak solutions to a system of two nonlinear drift-diffusion equations that has a gradient flow structure in the Wasserstein distance. The two equations are coupled through a cross-diffusion term that is scaled by a parameter $\varepsilon\ge0$. The nonlinearities and potentials are chosen such that in the decoupled system for $\varepsilon=0$, the evolution is metrically contractive, with a global rate $Λ>0$. The coupling is a singular perturbation in the sense that for any $\varepsilon>0$, contractivity of the system is lost. Our main result i…
We prove pathwise uniqueness for an abstract stochastic reaction-diffusion equation in Banach spaces. The drift contains a bounded Hölder term; in spite of this, due to the space-time white noise it is possible to prove pathwise uniqueness. The proof is based on a detailed analysis of the associated Kolmogorov equation. The model includes examples not covered by the previous works based on Hilbert spaces or concrete SPDEs.
We are concerned with the following Schrödinger-Newton problem \begin{equation} -\varepsilon^2Δu+V(x)u=\frac{1}{8π\varepsilon^2} \big(\int_{\mathbb R^3}\frac{u^2(ξ)}{|x-ξ|}dξ\big)u,~x\in \mathbb R^3. \end{equation} For $\varepsilon$ small enough, we show the uniqueness of positive solutions concentrating at the nondegenerate critical points of $V(x)$. The main tools are a local Pohozaev type of identity, blow-up analysis and the maximum principle. Our results also show that the asymptotic behavior of concentrated points to Schrödinger-Newton problem is quite different from those of Schrödinger…
In this paper we are interested on the well-posedness of Dirichlet problems associated to integro-differential elliptic operators of order $α< 1$ in a bounded smooth domain $Ω$ . The main difficulty arises because of losses of the boundary condition for sub and supersolutions due to the lower diffusive effect of the elliptic operator compared with the drift term. We consider the notion of viscosity solution with generalized boundary conditions, concluding strong comparison principles in $\barΩ$ under rather general assumptions over the drift term. As a consequence, existence and uniqueness of …
We are concerned with Dirichlet problems of the form $${\mathop{\rm div}\nolimits} (|D u|^{p-2}Du)+f(u)=0\ \mbox{ in }Ω,\qquad u=0\ \mbox{ on }\partialΩ, $$ where $Ω$ is a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\ge 2$, $1<p<n$ and $f$ is a continuous function with supercritical growth from the viewpoint of the Sobolev embedding. In particular, if $n=2$ and $γ:[a,b]\to\mathbb{R}^2$ is a smooth curve such that $γ(t_1)\neqγ(t_2)$ for $t_1\neq t_2$, we prove that, for $\varepsilon>0$ small enough, there exists a unique solution of the Dirichlet problem in the domain $Ω=Ω^Γ_\varepsilon=\{(x_1,x_2)\in\…
We investigate the asymptotic behavior of solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi equations with large drift term in an open subset of two-dimensional Euclidean space. When the drift is given by $\varepsilon^{-1} (H_{x_2}, -H_{x_1})$ of a Hamiltonian $H$, with $\varepsilon > 0$, we establish the convergence, as $\varepsilon \to 0+$, of solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi equations and identify the limit of the solutions as the solution of systems of ordinary differential equations on a graph. This result generalizes the previous one obtained by the author to the case where the Hamiltonian $H$ admits a degen…
Consider the following skew-symmetric Chern-Simons system \begin{equation*}\left \{ \begin{split} &Δu_{1}+\frac{1}{\varepsilon^2} e^{u_{2}}(1-e^{u_{1}})=4π\sum^{N_1}_{j=1}δ_{p_{j,1}}\\ &Δu_{2}+\frac{1}{\varepsilon^2} e^{u_{1}}(1-e^{u_{2}})=4π\sum^{N_2}_{j=1}δ_{p_{j,2}} \end{split}\right.\quad\text{ in }\quadΩ, \end{equation*} where $Ω$ is a flat 2-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^2$ or $\mathbb{R}^2$, $\varepsilon> 0$ is a coupling parameter, and $δ_p$ denotes the Dirac measure concentrated at $p$. In this paper, we prove that, when the coupling parameter $\varepsilon$ is small, the topological t…
We study quantitative aspects and concentration phenomena for ground states of the following nonlocal Schrödinger equation $ (-Δ)^s u+V(x)u= u^{2_s^*-1-\varepsilon} \ \ \text{in}\ \ \mathbb{R}^N, $ where $\varepsilon>0$, $s\in (0,1)$, $2^*_s:=\frac{2N}{N-2s}$, $N>4s$. We show that the ground state $u_{\varepsilon}$ blows up and precisely with the following rate $\|u_{\varepsilon}\|_{L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^N)}\sim \varepsilon^{-\frac{N-2s}{4s}}$, as $ε\rightarrow 0^+$. We also localize the concentration points and, in the case of radial potentials $V$, we prove local uniqueness of sequences of gro…
We are concerned with the following nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$-\varepsilon^2Δu+ V(x)u=|u|^{p-2}u,~u\in H^1(\R^N),$$ where $N\geq 3$, $2<p<\frac{2N}{N-2}$. For $\varepsilon$ small enough and a class of $V(x)$, we show the uniqueness of positive multi-bump solutions concentrating at $k$ different critical points of $V(x)$ under certain assumptions on asymptotic behavior of $V(x)$ and its first derivatives near those points. The degeneracy of critical points is allowed in this paper.
In this paper, we study the higher order Brezis-Nirenberg problem under the Navier boundary condition \be\label{eq} \begin{cases} (-Δ)^m u=\varepsilon u+u^{p} & \text { in }\, Ω, \\ u>0 & \text { in }\, Ω, \\ u=-Δu=\cdots=(-Δ)^{m-1} u=0 & \text { on }\, \partial Ω, \end{cases} \ee where $Ω$ is a strictly convex smooth bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with $n \geq 4m$, $m \in \mathbb{N}_{+}$, $\varepsilon\in (0,λ_{1})$, $λ_{1}$ is the first Navier eigenvalue for $(-Δ)^{m}$ in $Ω$, and $p=\frac{n+2m}{n-2m}$. We prove that the solutions of \eqref{eq} are unique if either $\varepsilon$ close to $λ…
This article is concerned with the question of uniqueness of self-similar profiles for Smoluchowski's coagulation equation which exhibit algebraic decay (fat tails) at infinity. More precisely, we consider a rate kernel $K$ which can be written as $K=2+\varepsilon W$. The perturbation is assumed to have homogeneity zero and might also be singular both at zero and at infinity. Under further regularity assumptions on $W$, we will show that for sufficiently small $\varepsilon$ there exists, up to normalisation of the tail behaviour at infinity, at most one self-similar profile.
We prove uniqueness for continuity equations in Hilbert spaces $H$. The corresponding drift $F$ is assumed to be in a first order Sobolev space with respect to some Gaussian measure. As in previous work on the subject, the proof is based on commutator estimates which are infinite dimensional analogues to the classical ones due to DiPerna-Lions. Our general approach is, however, quite different since, instead of considering renormalized solutions, we prove a dense range condition implying uniqueness. In addition, compared to known results by Ambrosio-Figalli and Fang-Luo, we use a different app…
In this paper we are interested in the following critical Hartree equation \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu =\displaystyle{\Big(\int_Ω\frac{u^{2_μ^\ast} (ξ)}{|x-ξ|^μ}dξ\Big)u^{2_μ^\ast-1}}+\varepsilon u ,~~~\text{in}~Ω,\\ u=0,~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\text{on}~\partialΩ, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $N\geq4$, $0<μ\leq4$, $\varepsilon>0$ is a small parameter, $Ω$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$, and $2_μ^\ast=\frac{2N-μ}{N-2}$ is the critical exponent in the sense of the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality. By establishing various versions of local Pohozaev ident…
We consider Dirichlet problems for linear elliptic equations of second order in divergence form on a bounded or exterior smooth domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n \ge 3$, with drifts $\mathbf{b}$ in the critical weak $L^n$-space $L^{n,\infty}(Ω; \mathbb{R}^n )$. First, assuming that the drift $\mathbf{b}$ has nonnegative weak divergence in $L^{n/2, \infty }(Ω)$, we establish existence and uniqueness of weak solutions in $W^{1,p}(Ω)$ or $D^{1,p}(Ω)$ for any $p$ with $n' = n/(n-1)< p < n$. By duality, a similar result also holds for the dual problem. Next, we prove $W^{1,n+\varepsilon}$ or $W^{2, …
We investigate the uniqueness, in suitable weighted Lebesgue spaces, of solutions to a class of elliptic equations with a drift posed on a complete, noncompact, Riemannian manifold $M$ of infinite volume and dimension $N\ge2$. Furthermore, in the special case of a model manifold with polynomial volume growth, we show that the conditions on the drift term are sharp.
In this article we correct the proof of a uniqueness result for self-similar solutions to Smoluchowski's coagulation equation for kernels $K=K(x,y)$ that are homogeneous of degree zero and close to constant in the sense that \begin{equation*} -\varepsilon \leq K(x,y)-2 \leq \varepsilon \left( \Big(\frac{x}{y}\Big)^α + \Big(\frac{y}{x}\Big)^α\right) \end{equation*} for $α\in [0,\frac 1 2)$. Assuming in addition that $K$ has an analytic extension to $\mathbb{C}\setminus(-\infty,0]$ and prescribing the precise asymptotic behaviour of $K$ at the origin, we prove that self-similar solutions with gi…
We study the existence, uniqueness and minimality of critical points of the form $m_{\varepsilon,η}(x) = (f_{\varepsilon,η}(|x|)\frac{x}{|x|}, g_{\varepsilon,η}(|x|))$ of the functional \[ E_{\varepsilon,η}[m] = \int_{B^N} \Big[\frac{1}{2} |\nabla m|^2 + \frac{1}{2\varepsilon^2} (1 - |m|^2)^2 + \frac{1}{2η^2} m_{N+1}^2\Big]\,dx \] for $m=(m_1, \dots, m_N, m_{N+1}) \in H^1(B^N,\mathbb{R}^{N+1})$ with $m(x) = (x,0)$ on $\partial B^N$. We establish a necessary and sufficient condition on the dimension $N$ and the parameters $\varepsilon$ and $η$ for the existence of an escaping vortex solution $(…

This paper is devoted to existence and uniqueness results for classes of nonlinear diffusion equations (or systems) which may be viewed as regular perturbations of Wasserstein gradient flows. First, in the case. where the drift is a gradient (in the physical space), we obtain existence by a semi-implicit Jordan-Kinderlehrer-Otto scheme. Then, in the nonpotential case, we derive existence from a regularization procedure and parabolic energy estimates. We also address the uniqueness issue by a displacement convexity argument.
We prove existence, uniqueness and Sobolev regularity of weak solution of the Cauchy problem of the stochastic transport equation with drift in a large class of singular vector fields containing, in particular, the $L^d$ class, the weak $L^d$ class, as well as some vector fields that are not even in $L_{\rm loc}^{2+\varepsilon}$ for any $\varepsilon>0$.
We consider stochastic evolution equations in Hilbert spaces with merely measurable and locally bounded drift term $B$ and cylindrical Wiener noise. We prove pathwise (hence strong) uniqueness in the class of global solutions. This paper extends our previous paper (Da Prato, Flandoli, Priola and M. Rockner, Annals of Prob., published online in 2012) which generalized Veretennikov's fundamental result to infinite dimensions assuming boundedness of the drift term. As in our previous paper pathwise uniqueness holds for a large class, but not for every initial condition. We also include an applica…
We prove unique weak solvability and Feller property for stochastic differential equations with drift in a large class of time-dependent vector fields. This class contains, in particular, the critical Ladyzhenskaya-Prodi-Serrin class, the weak $L^d$ class as well as some vector fields that are not even in $L^{2+\varepsilon}_{\rm loc}$, $\varepsilon>0$.
In this paper we are concerned with the well-known Brezis-Nirenberg problem \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu= u^{\frac{N+2}{N-2}}+\varepsilon u, &{\text{in}~Ω},\\ u>0, &{\text{in}~Ω},\\ u=0, &{\text{on}~\partial Ω}. \end{cases} \end{equation*} The existence of multi-peak solutions to the above problem for small $\varepsilon>0$ was obtained by Musso and Pistoia. However, the uniqueness or the exact number of positive solutions to the above problem is still unknown. Here we focus on the local uniqueness of multi-peak solutions and the exact number of positive solutions to the above problem fo…
In this paper we derive quantitative uniqueness estimates at infinity for solutions to an elliptic equation with unbounded drift in the plane. More precisely, let $u$ be a real solution to $Δu+W\cdot\nabla u=0$ in ${\mathbf R}^2$, where $W$ is real vector and $\|W\|_{L^p({\mathbf R}^2)}\le K$ for $2\le p<\infty$. Assume that $\|u\|_{L^{\infty}({\mathbf R}^2)}\le C_0$ and satisfies certain a priori assumption at $0$. Then $u$ satisfies the following asymptotic estimates at $R\gg 1$ \[ \inf_{|z_0|=R}\sup_{|z-z_0|<1}|u(z)|\ge \exp(-C_1R^{1-2/p}\log R)\quad\text{if}\quad 2<p<\infty \] and \[ \inf_…
In this paper, we consider the following singularly perturbed fractional Kirchhoff problem \begin{equation*} \Big(\varepsilon^{2s}a+\varepsilon^{4s-N} b{\int_{\mathbb{R}^{N}}}|(-Δ)^{\frac{s}{2}}u|^2dx\Big)(-Δ)^su+V(x)u=|u|^{p-2}u,\quad \text{in}\ \mathbb{R}^{N}, \end{equation*} where $a,b>0$, $2s<N<4s$ with $s\in(0,1)$, $2<p<2^*_s=\frac{2N}{N-2s}$ and $(-Δ)^s$ is the fractional Laplacian. For $\varepsilon> 0$ sufficiently small and a bounded continuous function $V$, we establish a type of local Pohozǎev identity by extension technique and then we can obtain the local uniqueness of semiclassica…
This paper develops an abstract theory for subdifferential operators to give existence and uniqueness of solutions to the initial-boundary problem (P) for the nonlinear diffusion equation in an unbounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N$ ($N\in{\mathbb N}$), written as \[ \frac{\partial u}{\partial t} + (-Δ+1)β(u) = g \quad \mbox{in}\ Ω\times(0, T), \] which represents the porous media, the fast diffusion equations, etc., where $β$ is a single-valued maximal monotone function on $\mathbb{R}$, and $T>0$. Existence and uniqueness for (P) were directly proved under a growth condition for $β$ even tho…
In this paper, a new decay estimate for a class of stochastic evolution equations with weakly dissipative drifts is established, which directly implies the uniqueness of invariant measures for the corresponding transition semigroups. Moreover, the existence of invariant measures and the convergence rate of corresponding transition semigroup to the invariant measure are also investigated. As applications, the main results are applied to singular stochastic $p$-Laplace equations and stochastic fast diffusion equations, which solves an open problem raised by Barbu and Da Prato in [Stoc. Proc. App…
Motivated by applications to proving regularity of solutions to degenerate parabolic equations arising in population genetics, we study existence, uniqueness and the strong Markov property of weak solutions to a class of degenerate stochastic differential equations. The stochastic differential equations considered in our article admit solutions supported in the set $[0,\infty)^n\times\mathbb{R}^m$, and they are degenerate in the sense that the diffusion matrix is not strictly elliptic, as the smallest eigenvalue converges to zero proportional to the distance to the boundary of the domain, and …
We prove existence and uniqueness of a positive solution to a system of two coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations. We give a full asymptotic expansion of this solution into powers of the semi classical parameter $\varepsilon$ in the Thomas--Fermi limit $\varepsilon\to 0$.
We investigate a stochastic transport equation driven by a multiplicative noise. For $L^q(0,T;W^{1,p}({\mathbb R}^d;{\mathbb R}^d))$ drift coefficient and $W^{1,r}({\mathbb R}^d)$ initial data, we obtain the existence and uniqueness of stochastic strong solutions (in $W^{1,r}_{loc}({\mathbb R}^d))$.In particular, when $r=\infty$, we establish a Lipschitz estimate for solutions and this question is opened by Fedrizzi and Flandoli in case of $L^q(0,T;L^p({\mathbb R}^d;{\mathbb R}^d))$ drift coefficient. Moreover, opposite to the deterministic case where $L^q(0,T;W^{1,p}({\mathbb R}^d;{\mathbb R}…
We show the $L^r(\mathbb{R}^d, μ)$-uniqueness for any $r \in (1, 2]$ and the essential self-adjointness of a Dirichlet operator $Lf = Δf +\langle \frac{1}ρ\nabla ρ, \nabla f \rangle$, $f \in C_0^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^d)$ with $d \geq 3$ and $μ=ρdx$. In particular, $\nabla ρ$ is allowed to be in $L^d_{loc}(\mathbb{R}^d, \mathbb{R}^d)$ or in $L^{2+\varepsilon}_{loc}(\mathbb{R}^d, \mathbb{R}^d)$ for some $\varepsilon>0$, while $ρ$ is required to be locally bounded below and above by strictly positive constants. The main tools in this paper are elliptic regularity results for divergence and non-dive…
In this paper linear stochastic transport and continuity equations with drift in critical $L^{p}$ spaces are considered. In this situation noise prevents shocks for the transport equation and singularities in the density for the continuity equation, starting from smooth initial conditions. Specifically, we first prove a result of Sobolev regularity of solutions, which is false for the corresponding deterministic equation. The technique needed to reach the critical case is new and based on parabolic equations satisfied by moments of first derivatives of the solution, opposite to previous works …
We study the three dimensional active scalar equation called the magneto-geostropic equation which was proposed by Moffatt and Loper as a model for the geodynamo processes in the Earth's fluid core. When the viscosity of the fluid is positive, the constitutive law that relates the drift velocity $u(x,t)$ and the scalar temperature $θ(x,t)$ produces two orders of smoothing. We study the implications of this property. For example, we prove that in the case of the non-diffusive ($\varepsilon_κ=0$) active scalar equation, initial data $θ_0\in L^3$ implies the existence of unique, global weak solut…
We investigate the Calderón problem for the fractional Schrödinger equation with drift, proving that the unknown drift and potential in a bounded domain can be determined simultaneously and uniquely by an infinite number of exterior measurements. In particular, in contrast to its local analogue, this nonlocal problem does \emph{not} enjoy a gauge invariance. The uniqueness result is complemented by an associated logarithmic stability estimate under suitable apriori assumptions. Also uniqueness under finitely many \emph{generic} measurements is discussed. Here the genericity is obtained through…
In this article, we prove the mean convex neighborhood conjecture for the mean curvature flow of surfaces in $\mathbb{R}^3$. Namely, if the flow has a spherical or cylindrical singularity at a space-time point $X=(x,t)$, then there exists a positive $\varepsilon=\varepsilon(X)>0$ such that the flow is mean convex in a space-time neighborhood of size $\varepsilon$ around $X$. The major difficulty is to promote the infinitesimal information about the singularity to a conclusion of macroscopic size. In fact, we prove a more general classification result for all ancient low entropy flows that aris…
The $3$-D primitive equations and incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with full hyper-viscosity and only horizontal hyper-viscosity are considered on the torus, i.e., the diffusion term $-Δ$ is replaced by $-Δ+ \varepsilon(-Δ)^{l}$ or by $-Δ+ \varepsilon(-Δ_H)^{l}$, respectively, where $Δ_H = \partial_x^2+\partial_y^2 $, $Δ= Δ_H + \partial_z^2$, $\varepsilon> 0$, $l>1$. Hyper-viscosity is applied in many numerical schemes, and in particular horizontal hyper-viscosity appears in meteorological models. A classical result by Lions states that for the Navier-Stokes equations uniqueness of globa…
We prove the existence and uniqueness of strong solutions for stochastic differential equations in which the drift coefficient is square integrable in time variable and Hölder continuous in space variable. Moreover, we prove that the unique strong solution has a continuous modification, which is $β$-Hölder continuous in space variable for every $β\in (0,1)$, and as an $L^2(Ω\times (0,T))$ valued function, it is differentiable as well.
The uniqueness of bounded weak solutions to strongly coupled parabolic equations in a bounded domain with no-flux boundary conditions is shown. The equations include cross-diffusion and drift terms and are coupled selfconsistently to the Poisson equation. The model class contains special cases of the Maxwell-Stefan equations for gas mixtures, generalized Shigesada-Kawasaki-Teramoto equations for population dynamics, and volume-filling models for ion transport. The uniqueness proof is based on a combination of the $H^{-1}$ technique and the entropy method of Gajewski.
