Stable non-supersymmetric Anti-de Sitter (AdS) vacua of string theory are widely believed not to exist. In this letter, we analytically compute the full bosonic Kaluza-Klein spectrum around the ${\rm G_2}$-invariant non-supersymmetric $\textrm{AdS}_4$ solution of massive IIA supergravity, and show that it is perturbatively stable. We also provide evidence that six other non-supersymmetric $\textrm{AdS}_4$ solutions of massive IIA supergravity are perturbatively stable. Since previous studies have indicated that these AdS vacua may also be non-perturbatively stable, our findings pose a challenge to the Swampland Conjecture.
We compute the monodromy matrices on the special geometry of 4d N=2 Heterotic--IIA dual vacua in some simple cases by numerical evaluation of the period integrals, without assuming geometric background. The integrality of the monodromy matrices constrains some classification invariants of the string vacua. We also mention some mathematical open problems on period polynomials for modular form with poles.
Moduli stabilization in the type IIA massive string theory so far was achieved only in the AdS vacua. The uplifting to dS vacua has not been performed as yet: neither the analogs of type IIB anti-D3 brane at the tip of the conifold, nor the appropriate D-terms have been identified. The hope was recently expressed that the F-term uplifting may work. We investigate this possibility in the context of a simplified version of the type IIA model developed in hep-th/0505160 and find that the F-term does not uplift the AdS vacua to dS vacua with positive CC. Thus it remains a challenging task to find …
We compute string theoretic black hole solutions having Lifshitz asymptotics with a general dynamical exponent z>1. We start by constructing solutions in a flux compactification of six dimensional supergravity, then uplift them to massive type IIA supergravity. Alongside the Lifshitz black holes we study the simpler anti-de Sitter solutions, of which there are a 1-parameter family in this supergravity, and compare and contrast their properties. The black holes are characterized by a two-form and scalar charge, and we numerically explore their configuration space and thermodynamical aspects.
We revisit various aspects of AdS$_4$ flux vacua with scale separation in type II supergravity and M-theory. We show that massless IIA allows both weakly and strongly coupled solutions for which the classical orientifold backreaction can be tuned small. This is explicitly verified by computing the backreaction at leading order in perturbation theory. We give evidence that the strongly coupled solutions can be lifted to scale-separated and sourceless (but classically singular) geometries in 11D supergravity.
Explicit formulae are given for the consistent truncation of massive type IIA supergravity on the six-sphere to the SU(3)--invariant sector of $D=4$ ${\cal N}=8$ supergravity with dyonic ISO(7) gauging. These formulae are then used to construct AdS$_4$ solutions of massive type IIA via uplift on $S^6$ of the critical points of the $D=4$ supergravity with at least SU(3) symmetry. We find a new ${\cal N}=1$ solution with SU(3) symmetry, a new non-supersymmetric solution with SO(6) symmetry, and recover previously known solutions. We quantise the fluxes, calculate the gravitational free energies …
We focus on 4D $\mathcal{N}=2$ string vacua described both by perturbative Heterotic theory and by Type IIA theory; a Calabi--Yau three-fold $X_{\rm IIA}$ in the Type IIA language is further assumed to have a regular K3-fibration. It is well-known that one can assign a modular form $Φ$ to such a vacuum by counting perturbative BPS states in Heterotic theory or collecting Noether--Lefschetz numbers associated with the K3-fibration of $X_{\mathrm{IIA}}$. In this article, we expand the observations and ideas (using gauge threshold correction) in the literature and formulate a modular form $Ψ$ wit…
We study the conformal dimensions of the would-be dual operators to the stabilized moduli for two non-supersymmetric DGKT vacua. For the first of them, related to the standard SUSY DGKT vacuum by $G_4=-G_4^{\text{SUSY}}$, we obtain integer conformal dimensions. For the second of them, which has a non-zero harmonic component in $G_2$, we obtain both integers and real numbers.
We study type IIA string theory compactified on Calabi-Yau fourfolds and heterotic string theory compactified on Calabi-Yau threefolds times a two-torus. We derive the resulting effective theories which have two space-time dimensions and preserve four supercharges. The duality between such vacua is established at the level of the effective theory. For type IIA vacua with non-trivial Ramond-Ramond background fluxes a superpotential is generated. We show that for a specific choice of background fluxes and a fourfold which has the structure of a threefold fibred over a sphere the superpotential c…
We discuss flux compactifications of IIA string theory on G2 holonomy spaces with O2/O6-planes to three dimensions and find two classes of solutions: 1) No-scale Minkowski vacua from NSNS 3-form fluxes and RR 4-form fluxes. 2) By adding Romans mass we find AdS$_3$ vacua for which the AdS scale can be decoupled completely from the KK scale while the solution is at tunable weak coupling and large volume. For the AdS$_3$ vacuum we only have a proper 3D description (i.e. smeared orientifold description) of the solution like the 4D analogue of IIA moduli stabilization from fluxes and O6-planes. Thi…
Type IIA flux compactifications with O6-planes have been argued from a four dimensional effective theory point of view to admit stable, moduli free solutions. We discuss in detail the ten dimensional description of such vacua and present exact solutions in the case when the O6-charge is smoothly distributed. In the localised case, the solution is a half-flat, non-Calabi-Yau metric. Finally, using the ten dimensional description we show how all moduli are stabilised and reproduce precisely the results of de Wolfe et al.
We evaluate the backreaction of O6-planes in scale-separated $\text{AdS}_3$ flux vacua of massive Type IIA. Using the appropriate flux scaling we show that the corrections to the various background fields and moduli are controlled and subleading when going from smeared to localized sources. Similarly, the backreaction corrections to the scalar potential are parametrically small in the scale-separation limit, assuming always that the near-O6-plane singularities will find a resolution within string theory, even in the presence of a Romans mass. Our analysis is based on the equations of motion an…
We consider backgrounds of (massive) IIA supergravity of the form of a warped product $M_{1,3}\times_ω X_6$, where $X_6$ is a six-dimensional compact manifold and $M_{1,3}$ is $AdS_4$ or a four-dimensional Minkowski space. We analyse conditions for $\mathcal{N}=1$ and $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetry on manifolds of SU(2) structure. We prove the absence of solutions in certain cases.
We analyse type IIA Calabi-Yau orientifolds with background fluxes and D6-branes. The presence of D6-brane deformation moduli redefines the 4d dilaton and complex structure fields and complicates the analysis of such vacua in terms of the effective Kahler potential and superpotential. One may however formulate the F-term scalar potential as a bilinear form on the flux-axion polynomials $ρ_A$ invariant under the discrete shift symmetries of the 4d effective theory. We express the conditions for Minkoswki and AdS flux vacua in terms of such polynomials, which allow to extend the analysis to incl…
We consider a certain ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric, SO(3)$\times$SO(3) invariant, subsector of the dyonic ISO(7)-gauged maximal supergravity in four-dimensions. The theory contains two scalar fields and two pseudoscalar fields. We look for stationary points of the scalar potential, especially the one preserving ${\cal N}=3$ supersymmetry of the original ISO(7) gauged theory. The ${\cal N}=3$ stationary point corresponding to the $AdS$ vacuum in the $D=4$ theory is lifted to a warped $AdS_4\times X_6$ type solution in massive type IIA supergravity. This $D=10$ background should be the dual of a …
We present time-dependent exact solutions composed of F-strings intersecting D2-branes in type IIA supergravity. The F-strings tend to approach each other with time in the six-dimensional space transverse to both F-strings and D2-branes. In general, a singularity appears before collision. An exceptional case is that the charges are the same and five directions in the transverse space are smeared out. Then we argue some applications of the solutions in building cosmological models. The possible models are classified based on compactifications of the internal space. All of them give rise to the …
Type IIB toroidal orientifolds are among the earliest examples of flux vacua. By applying T-duality, we construct the first examples of massive IIA flux vacua with Minkowski space-times, along with new examples of type IIA flux vacua. The backgrounds are surprisingly simple with no four-form flux at all. They serve as illustrations of the ingredients needed to build type IIA and massive IIA solutions with scale separation. To check that these backgrounds are actually solutions, we formulate the complete set of type II supergravity equations of motion in a very useful form that treats the R-R f…
We review some of the features of Type IIA compactifications in the presence of fluxes. In particular, the case of $T^6/(Ω(-1)^{F_L} σ)$ orientifolds with RR, NS and metric fluxes is considered. This has revealed to possess remarkable properties such as vacua with all the closed string moduli stabilized, null or negative contributions to the RR tadpoles or supersymmetry on the branes enforced by the closed string background. In this way, Type IIA compactifications with non trivial fluxes seem to constitute a new window into the building of semi-realistic models in String Theory.
We derive conditions for the existence of four-dimensional \N=1 supersymmetric flux vacua of massive type IIA string theory with general supergravity fluxes turned on. For an SU(3) singlet Killing spinor, we show that such flux vacua exist only when the internal geometry is nearly-Kähler. The geometry is not warped, all the allowed fluxes are proportional to the mass parameter and the dilaton is fixed by a ratio of (quantized) fluxes. The four-dimensional cosmological constant, while negative, becomes small in the vacuum with the weak string coupling.
We give a concise argument that supersymmetric AdS type IIA DGKT flux vacua on general Calabi-Yaus have, interpreted holographically, integer conformal dimensions for low-lying scalar primaries in the dual CFT. These integers are independent of any compactification details, such as the background fluxes or triple intersection numbers of the compact manifold. For the Kähler moduli and dilaton, there is one operator with $Δ= 10$ and $h^{1,1}_{-}$ operators with $Δ=6$, whereas the corresponding axions have $Δ= 11$ and $Δ= 5$. For the complex structure moduli, the $h^{2,1}$ saxions have $Δ=2$, and…
This letter discusses the orientifold projection of the quantum corrections to type IIA strings compactified on rigid Calabi-Yau threefolds. It is shown that N=2 membrane instanton effects give a holomorphic contribution to the superpotential, while the perturbative corrections enter into the Kahler potential. At the level of the scalar potential the corrections to the Kahler potential give rise to a positive energy contribution similar to adding anti-D3-branes in the KKLT scenario. This provides a natural mechanism to lift an AdS vacuum to a meta-stable dS vacuum.
We obtain the complete non-linear Kaluza-Klein ansatz for the reduction of the bosonic sector of massive type IIA supergravity to the Romans F(4) gauged supergravity in six dimensions. The latter arises as a consistent warped S^4 reduction.
A description of the bosonic sector of massive IIA supergravity as a non-linear realisation is given. An essential feature of this construction is that the momentum generators have non-trivial commutation relations with the generators associated with the gauge fields.
The superfield equations of massive IIA supergravity, in the form of constraints on the superspace geometry, are shown to be implied by $κ$-symmetry of the topologically massive D-2-brane.
We present a new Type IIB supergravity background of the warped form AdS$_4\times \mathcal{M}_6$ with dilaton, $B$-field and all Ramond-Ramond fluxes turned on. We obtain the solution by applying non-Abelian T-duality to a certain representative of a class of AdS$_4$ backgrounds in massive IIA supergravity. By explicitly constructing the Killing spinor of the seed solution and using an argument involving Kosmann spinorial Lie derivative we demonstrate that the background is supersymmetric.
We describe several applications of the recently proposed mass production procedure, where multiple moduli are stabilized in a dS vacuum, in supergravity models inspired by string theory. The construction involves a small downshift of an initial supersymmetric Minkowski minimum to a supersymmetric AdS minimum, and a consequent small uplift to a dS minimum. Our type IIA examples include dS stabilization in a 7-moduli model with $[SL(2, \mathbb{R})]^7$ tree level symmetry, and its simplified version, a 3-moduli STU model. In these models, we use uplifting anti-D6 branes. In type IIB models, we p…
Type IIA flux compactifications with O6-planes have been argued from a four dimensional effective theory point of view to admit stable, moduli free solutions. We discuss in detail the ten dimensional description of such vacua and present exact supersymmetric solutions in the case when the O6-charge is smoothly distributed: the geometry is Calabi-Yau and the dilaton is constant. In the localized case, the solution is a half-flat, non-Calabi-Yau metric but still with constant dilaton. Finally, using the ten dimensional description we show how all moduli are stabilized and reproduce precisely the…
We address the possibility of false vacuum decay in $N=1$ supergravity theories, including those corresponding to superstring vacua. By establishing a Bogomol'nyi bound for the energy density stored in the domain wall of the $O(4)$ invariant bubble, we show that supersymmetric vacua remain absolutely stable against false vacuum decay into another supersymmetric vacuum, including those from a Minkowski to an anti-deSitter (AdS) one. As a consequence, there are no compact static spherical domain walls, while on the other hand there exist planar domain walls interpolating between non-degenerate s…
We show that IIA supergravity can be extended with two independent 10-form potentials. These give rise to a single BPS IIA 9-brane. We investigate the bosonic gauge algebra of both IIA and IIB supergravity in the presence of 10-form potentials and point out an intriguing relation with the symmetry algebra $E_{11}$, which has been conjectured to be the underlying symmetry of string theory/M-theory.
We present a family of N=1 supersymmetric backgrounds in type-IIA supergravity and their lifts to eleven-dimensional supergravity. These are of the form $AdS_5 \times X^5$ and are characterised by an $SU(2)$ structure. The internal space, $X^5$, is obtained from the known Sasaki-Einstein manifolds, $Y^{p,q}$, via an application of non-Abelian T-duality.
We construct a consistent reduction of type IIA supergravity on S^3, leading to a maximal gauged supergravity in seven dimensions with the full set of massless SO(4) Yang-Mills fields. We do this by starting with the known S^4 reduction of eleven-dimensional supergravity, and showing that it is possible to take a singular limit of the resulting standard SO(5)-gauged maximal supergravity in seven dimensions, whose eleven-dimensional interpretation involves taking a limit where the internal 4-sphere degenerates to RxS^3. This allows us to reinterpret the limiting SO(4)-gauged theory in seven dim…
We analyse type IIA Calabi-Yau orientifolds with backgroud fluxes, taking into account the effect of perturbative $α'$-corrections. In particular, we consider the $α'$-corrections that modify the metrics in the Kähler sector of the compactification. As it has been argued in the literature, including such $α'$-corrections allows to construct the mirror duals of type IIB Calabi-Yau flux compactifications, in which the effect of flux backreaction is under control. We compute the $α'$-corrected scalar potential generated by the presence of RR and NS fluxes, and reformulate it as a bilinear of the …
We give the full supersymmetric and kappa-symmetric actions for the Dirichlet p-branes, including their coupling to background superfields of ten-dimensional type IIA and IIB supergravity.
The search for classically stable Type IIA de-Sitter vacua typically starts with an ansatz that gives Anti-de-Sitter supersymmetric vacua and then raises the cosmological constant by modifying the compactification. As one raises the cosmological constant, the couplings typically destabilize the classically stable vacuum, so the probability that this approach will lead to a classically stable de-Sitter vacuum is Gaussianly suppressed. This suggests that classically stable de-Sitter vacua in string theory (at least in the Type IIA region), especially those with relatively high cosmological const…
Maximal supergravity in four dimensions admits two inequivalent dyonic gaugings of the group $\mathrm{SO}(4) \times \mathrm{SO}(2,2) \ltimes T^{16}$. Both admit a Minkowski vacuum with residual $\mathrm{SO}(4) \times \mathrm{SO}(2)^2$ symmetry and identical spectrum. We explore these vacua and their deformations. Using exceptional field theory, we show that the four-dimensional theories arise as consistent truncations from IIA and IIB supergravity, respectively, around a $\mathrm{Mink}_4\times S^3\times H^3$ geometry. The IIA/IIB truncations are efficiently related by an outer automorphism of …
We describe solutions of type IIA (N=2, D=10) supergravity built under the assumption of the existence of at least one residual chiral supersymmetry. Their geometry is of pp-wave type. Explicit parametrization of the metric and matter field components, in terms of Killing spinors and arbitrary functions, is provided.
We show how to construct supersymmetric warped AdS$_7$ vacua of massive IIA and AdS$_6$ vacua of IIB supergravity, using "half-maximal structures" of exceptional field theory. We use this formalism to obtain the minimal consistent truncations around these AdS vacua.
We construct AdS$_4$ flux vacua of type IIA string theory in the supergravity (large volume, small $g_s$) regime, including the backreaction of O6-planes. Our solutions are the localized versions of the smeared solutions on Calabi-Yau orientifolds studied by DeWolfe, Giryavets, Kachru and Taylor and in other works. We find that the O-plane backreaction in these solutions generates warping, a varying dilaton, non-closed RR field strengths and internal curvature. Just like their smeared counterparts, the localized solutions admit stabilized moduli, a parametric control over string corrections an…
We consider classical type II supergravity with arbitrary fluxes, Dirichlet branes and orientifold planes and prove that a four-dimensional compactification of this theory can never correspond to a metastable de Sitter state.
We show that a class of type IIA vacua recently found within the N=4 effective approach corresponds to compactification on Ads_4 \times S^3 \times S^3/Z_2^3. The results obtained using the effective method completely match the general ten-dimensional analysis for the existence of N=1 warped compactifications on Ads_4 \times M_6. In particular, we verify that the internal metric is nearly-Kahler and that for specific values of the parameters the Bianchi identity of the RR 2-form is fulfilled without sources. For another range of parameters, including the massless case, the Bianchi identity is s…
This article presents a systematic study of critical points for the SL(8, R)-type gauging in four dimensional maximal gauged supergravity. We determine all the possible vacua for which the origin of the moduli space becomes a critical point. We formulate a new tool which enables us to find analytically the mass spectrum of the corresponding vacua in terms of eigenvalues of the embedding tensor. When the cosmological constant is nonvanishing, it turns out that many vacua obtained by the dyonic embedding admit a single deformation parameter of the theory, in agreement with the results of the rec…
We study compactifications of type IIA supergravity on six-dimensional manifolds with SU(2) structure and compute the low-energy effective action in terms of the non-trivial intrinsic torsion. The consistency with gauged N=4 supergravity is established and the gauge group is determined. Depending on the structure of the intrinsic torsion, antisymmetric tensor fields can become massive.
We derive necessary and sufficient conditions for N=1 compactifications of (massive) IIA supergravity to AdS(4) in the language of SU(3) structures. We find new solutions characterized by constant dilaton and nonzero fluxes for all form fields. All fluxes are given in terms of the geometrical data of the internal compact space. The latter is constrained to belong to a special class of half-flat manifolds.
This is the written version of two lectures given at the Newton Institute Euroconference on Duality and Supersymmetric Theories, Cambridge, England, 7-18 Apr 1997. It deals with the nature of supergravity vacua and black holes and black branes as solitons, focussing on my own work. While clearly dated, I believe that it contains material which remains of relevance and which is not available elsewhere
IIA supergravity backgrounds preserving one supersymmetry locally admit four types of Killing spinors distinguished by the orbits of $Spin(9,1)$ on the space of spinors. We solve the Killing spinor equations of IIA supergravity with and without cosmological constant for Killing spinors representing two of these orbits, with isotropy groups $Spin(7)$ and $Spin(7)\ltimes\mathbb{R}^8$. In both cases, we identify the geometry of spacetime and express the fluxes in terms of the geometry. We find that the geometric constraints of backgrounds with a $Spin(7)\ltimes\mathbb{R}^8$ invariant Killing spin…
We study marginal deformations of a class of three-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ SCFTs that admit a holographic dual description in massive type IIA supergravity. We compute the dimension of the conformal manifold in these SCFTs and identify a special submanifold with enhanced flavor symmetry. We show how to apply the TsT transformation of Lunin-Maldacena to construct explicit supersymmetric AdS$_4$ solutions of massive type IIA supergravity with non-trivial internal fluxes that are the holographic dual of these marginal deformations. Finally, we also briefly comment on a class of RG flows betwe…
We study the low-lying excitations of Type IIA superstring theory in a plane wave background with 24 supersymmetries. In the light-cone gauge, the superstring action has ${\cal N}=(4,4)$ supersymmetry and is exactly solvable, since it is quadratic in superstring coordinates. We obtain explicitly the spectrum of the Type IIA supergravity fluctuation modes in the plane wave background and give its correspondence with the spectrum of string states from the zero-mode sector of the light-cone superstring Hamiltonian.
In this talk we investigate the symmetry under E10 of Romans' massive type IIA supergravity. We show that the dynamics of a spinning particle in a non-linear sigma model on the coset space E10/K(E10) reproduces the bosonic and fermionic dynamics of massive IIA supergravity, in the standard truncation. In particular, we identify Romans' mass with a generator of E10 that is beyond the realm of the generators of E10 considered in the eleven-dimensional analysis, but using the same, underformed sigma model. As a consequence, this work provides a dynamical unification of the massless and massive ve…
We demonstrate that flux compactifications of type IIA string theory can classically stabilize all geometric moduli. For a particular orientifold background, we explicitly construct an infinite family of supersymmetric vacua with all moduli stabilized at arbitrarily large volume, weak coupling, and small negative cosmological constant. We obtain these solutions from both ten-dimensional and four-dimensional perspectives. For more general backgrounds, we study the equations for supersymmetric vacua coming from the effective superpotential and show that all geometric moduli can be stabilized by …
In this letter we describe how to string together the doubled field approach by Cremmer, Julia, Lu and Pope with Pasti-Sorokin-Tonin technique to construct the sigma-model-like action for type IIA supergravity. The relation of the results with that of obtained in the context of searching for Superstring/M-theory hidden symmetry group is discussed.
Motivated by the AdS_6/CFT_5 correspondence, we study general supersymmetric solutions of massive type IIA supergravity, consisting of a warped product of six-dimensional anti-de Sitter space AdS_6 with a four-dimensional Riemannian manifold M_4, and fluxes compatible with the SO(5,2) symmetry. We find that the only local solution of this form is the warped AdS_6 x_w S^4 solution, originally discovered by Brandhuber and Oz. We discuss the supersymmetric properties of this solution.
A three-step procedure is proposed in type IIA string theory to stabilize multiple moduli in a dS vacuum. The first step is to construct a progenitor model with a localized stable supersymmetric Minkowski vacuum, or a discrete set of such vacua. It can be done, for example, using two non-perturbative exponents in the superpotential for each modulus, as in the KL model. A large set of supersymmetric Minkowski vacua with strongly stabilized moduli is protected by a theorem on stability of these vacua in absence of flat directions. The second step involves a parametrically small downshift to a su…
We summarize the results and the ideas in 1707.06152, 1707.06154, 1807.07768 where new warped $\mathrm{AdS}_3$ backgrounds are derived in massive IIA string theory by uplifting exact solutions in $\mathcal N=1$, $d=7$ and $\mathcal N=(1,1)$, $d=6$ gauged supergravities. These solutions are respectively asymptotically $\mathrm{AdS}_7$ and $\mathrm{AdS}_6$ and they are related to the D2-D4-NS5-D6-D8 brane intersection. We provide a particular supergravity solution in 10d describing this bound state and we discuss the relations between its near-horizon geometry and the uplifts from 6d and 7d. The…
We solve the Killing spinor equations of standard and massive IIA supergravities for a Killing spinor whose isotropy subgroup in Spin(9, 1) is SU(4) and identify the geometry of the spacetime. We demonstrate that the Killing spinor equations impose some mild constraints on the geometry of the spacetime which include the existence of a time-like Killing vector field which leaves the fields and the Killing spinor invariant.
We use exceptional field theory to systematically study all possible consistent truncations around half-maximal AdS$_5$ vacua of M-theory. We show that only truncations with at most three vector multiplets are consistent. The possible gaugings are SU(2)$\times$U(1) and ISO(3)$\times$U(1) where, in the first case, the U(1) factor can have different embeddings inside the global symmetry group SO$(5,n)$, where $n \leq 3$ equals the number of vector multiplets. We show that the ISO(3)$\times$U(1) truncation only exists around vacua that are locally an $S^4$ fibration over a Riemann surface, and ar…
The framework of exceptional field theory is extended by introducing consistent deformations of its generalised Lie derivative. For the first time, massive type IIA supergravity is reproduced geometrically as a solution of the section constraint. This provides a unified description of all ten- and eleven-dimensional maximal supergravities. The action of the E7 deformed theory is constructed, and reduces to those of exceptional field theory and gauged maximal supergravity in respective limits. The relation of this new framework to other approaches for generating the Romans mass non-geometricall…
In this paper we study K3 compactification of ten-dimensional massive type IIA theory with all possible Ramond-Ramond background fluxes turned on. The resulting six-dimensional theory is a new massive (gauged) supergravity with an action that is manifestly invariant under an O(4,20) / (O(4) times O(20)) duality symmetry. We discover that this six-dimensional theory interpolates between vacua of ten-dimensional massive IIA supergravity and vacua of massless IIA supergravity with appropriate background fluxes turned on. This in turn suggests a new 11-dimensional interpretation for the massive ty…
We construct multiple embeddings of all solutions of $d=5$ minimal (un)gauged supergravity into massive Type IIA supergravity. The internal spaces and warpings of such embeddings are the same as those of the $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric (Mink$_5$) AdS$_5$ vacua, with the slight modification that the U(1) R-symmetry direction becomes fibered over the external space by the $d=5$ gauge field. In addition the fluxes are appropriately modified. There are many distinct types of the aforementioned internal spaces and as such many different embeddings of the $d=5$ supergravity. As examples of our se…
We derive the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for a class of BPS black holes in the massive type IIA supergravity background AdS$_4 \times S^6$ from a microscopic counting of supersymmetric ground states in a holographically dual field theory. The counting is performed by evaluating the topologically twisted index of three-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ Chern-Simons-matter gauge theories in the large $N$ limit. The $\mathcal{I}$-extremization principle is shown to match the attractor mechanism for the near-horizon geometries constructed in the four-dimensional dyonic $\mathcal{N}=2$ gauged supergravit…
