Blaschke's asymptotic lines of surfaces in R3

In this paper we consider the Blaschke's asymptotic lines (also called affine asymptotic lines) of regular surfaces in 3-space. We study the binary differential equations defining Blaschke's asymptotic lines in the elliptic and hyperbolic regions of the surface near affine cusp points and to at affine umbilic points. We also describe the affine asymptotic lines near the Euclidean parabolic set including the Euclidean flat umbilic points.

Volume Distance to Hypersurfaces: Asymptotic Behavior of its Hessian

The volume distance from a point p to a convex hypersurface M of the (N+1)-dimensional space is defined as the minimum (N+1)-volume of a region bounded by M and a hyperplane H through the point. This function is differentiable in a neighborhood of M and if we restrict its hessian to the minimizing hyperplane H(p) we obtain, after normalization, a symmetric bi-linear form Q. Optimal inequalities between distances in convex projective domains

On any proper convex domain in real projective space there exists a natural Riemannian metric, the Blaschke metric. On the other hand, distances between points can be measured in the Hilbert metric. Using techniques of optimal control, we provide inequalities lower bounding the Riemannian length of the line segment joining two points of the domain by the Hilbert distance between these points, thus strengthening a result of Tholozan. Convex bodies with pinched Mahler volume under the centro-affine normal flows

We study the asymptotic behavior of smooth, origin-symmetric, strictly convex bodies under the centro-affine normal flows. By means of a stability version of the Blaschke-Santaló inequality, we obtain regularity of the solutions provided that initial convex bodies have almost maximum Mahler volume. We prove that suitably rescaled solutions converge sequentially to the unit ball in the $\mathcal{C}^{\infty}$ topology modulo $SL(n+1)$.

Min-max embedded geodesic lines in asymptotically conical surfaces

We employ min-max methods to construct uncountably many, geometrically distinct, properly embedded geodesic lines in any asymptotically conical surface of non-negative scalar curvature, a setting where minimization schemes are doomed to fail. Our construction provides control of the Morse index of the geodesic lines we produce, which will be always less or equal than one (with equality under suitable curvature or genericity assumptions), as well as of their precise asymptotic behaviour. Inflection points and asymptotic lines on Lagrangean surfaces

We describe the structure of the asymptotic lines near an inflection point of a Lagrangean surface, proving that in the generic situation it corresponds to two of the three possible cases when the discriminant curve has a cusp singularity. Besides being stable in general, inflection points are proved to exist on a compact Lagrangean surface whenever its Euler characteristic does not vanish.

Asymptotic lines and parabolic points of plane fields in $\mathbb{R}^3$

In this paper are studied the simplest qualitative properties of asymptotic lines of a plane field in Euclidean space. These lines are the integral curves of the null directions of the normal curvature of the plane field, on the closure of the hyperbolic region, where the Gaussian curvature is negative. When the plane field is completely integrable, these curves coincides with the classical asymptotic lines on surfaces.

Discrete asymptotic nets and W-congruences in Plucker line geometry

The asymptotic lattices and their transformations are studied within the line geometry approach. It is shown that the discrete asymptotic nets are represented by isotropic congruences in the Plucker quadric. Absence of resonance near the critical line on asymptotically hyperbolic spaces

As a consequence of a result of Cardoso and Vodev, we show that the resolvent of the Laplacian on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds is analytic in an exponential neighbourhood of the critical line. The case of non-trapping metrics with constant curvature near infinity is also considered: there exists a strip with at most a finite number of resonances.

Asymptotics of spectral function of lower energy forms and Bergman kernel of semi-positive and big line bundles

In this paper we study the asymptotic behaviour of the spectral function corresponding to the lower part of the spectrum of the Kodaira Laplacian on high tensor powers of a holomorphic line bundle. This implies a full asymptotic expansion of this function on the set where the curvature of the line bundle is non-degenerate. Semiclassical eigenvalue asymptotics for the Bochner Laplacian of a positive line bundle on a symplectic manifold

We consider the Bochner Laplacian on high tensor powers of a positive line bundle on a closed symplectic manifold (or, equivalently, the semiclassical magnetic Schrödinger operator with the non-degenerate magnetic field). We assume that the operator has discrete wells. The main result of the paper states asymptotic expansions for its low-lying eigenvalues.
