Learned communication makes multi-agent systems more effective by aggregating distributed information. However, it also exposes individual agents to the threat of erroneous messages they might receive. In this paper, we study the setting proposed in V2VNet, where nearby self-driving vehicles jointly perform object detection and motion forecasting in a cooperative manner. Despite a huge performance boost when the agents solve the task together, the gain is quickly diminished in the presence of pose noise since the communication relies on spatial transformations. Hence, we propose a novel neural reasoning framework that learns to communicate, to estimate potential errors, and finally, to reach a consensus about those errors. Experiments confirm that our proposed framework significantly improves the robustness of multi-agent self-driving perception and motion forecasting systems under realistic and severe localization noise.

The overarching goal of this work is to efficiently enable end-users to correctly anticipate a robot's behavior in novel situations. Since a robot's behavior is often a direct result of its underlying objective function, our insight is that end-users need to have an accurate mental model of this objective function in order to understand and predict what the robot will do. While people naturally develop such a mental model over time through observing the robot act, this familiarization process may be lengthy. Our approach reduces this time by having the robot model how people infer objectives f…

In this letter, we present a novel markerless 3D human motion capture (MoCap) system for unstructured, outdoor environments that uses a team of autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with on-board RGB cameras and computation. Existing methods are limited by calibrated cameras and off-line processing. Thus, we present the first method (AirPose) to estimate human pose and shape using images captured by multiple extrinsically uncalibrated flying cameras. AirPose itself calibrates the cameras relative to the person instead of relying on any pre-calibration. It uses distributed neural networks …

Accurate camera pose estimation result is essential for visual SLAM (VSLAM). This paper presents a novel pose correction method to improve the accuracy of the VSLAM system. Firstly, the relationship between the camera pose estimation error and bias values of map points is derived based on the optimized function in VSLAM. Secondly, the bias value of the map point is calculated by a statistical method. Finally, the camera pose estimation error is compensated according to the first derived relationship. After the pose correction, procedures of the original system, such as the bundle adjustment (B…

A central challenge in human pose estimation, as well as in many other machine learning and prediction tasks, is the generalization problem. The learned network does not have the capability to characterize the prediction error, generate feedback information from the test sample, and correct the prediction error on the fly for each individual test sample, which results in degraded performance in generalization. In this work, we introduce a self-correctable and adaptable inference (SCAI) method to address the generalization challenge of network prediction and use human pose estimation as an exam…

In this work, we propose a novel deep online correction (DOC) framework for monocular visual odometry. The whole pipeline has two stages: First, depth maps and initial poses are obtained from convolutional neural networks (CNNs) trained in self-supervised manners. Second, the poses predicted by CNNs are further improved by minimizing photometric errors via gradient updates of poses during inference phases. The benefits of our proposed method are twofold: 1) Different from online-learning methods, DOC does not need to calculate gradient propagation for parameters of CNNs. Thus, it saves more co…
Three popular feature descriptors of computer vision such as SIFT, SURF, and ORB compared and evaluated. The number of correct features extracted and matched for the original hand hygiene pose-Rub hands palm to palm image and rotated image. An accuracy score calculated based on the total number of matches and the correct number of matches produced. The experiment demonstrated that ORB algorithm outperforms by giving the high number of correct matches in less amount of time. ORB feature detection technique applied over handwashing video recordings for feature extraction and hand hygiene pose cl…
Keeping fit has been increasingly important for people nowadays. However, people may not get expected exercise results without following professional guidance while hiring personal trainers is expensive. In this paper, an effective real-time system called Fitness Done Right (FDR) is proposed for helping people exercise correctly on their own. The system includes detecting human body parts, recognizing exercise pose and detecting errors for test poses as well as giving correction advice. Generally, two branch multi-stage CNN is used for training data sets in order to learn human body parts and …
In this paper, we propose a new approach that takes as input a 3D face image across X, Y and Z axes as well as both Y and X axes and gives output as its pose i.e. it tells whether the face is oriented with respect the X, Y or Z axes or is it oriented across multiple axes with angles of rotation up to 42 degree. All the experiments have been performed on the FRAV3D, GAVADB and Bosphorus database which has two figures of each individual across multiple axes. After applying the proposed algorithm to the 3D facial surface from FRAV3D on 848 3D faces, 566 3D faces were correctly recognized for pose…
Significant attention is being paid to multi-person pose estimation methods recently, as there has been rapid progress in the field owing to convolutional neural networks. Especially, recent method which exploits part confidence maps and Part Affinity Fields (PAFs) has achieved accurate real-time prediction of multi-person keypoints. However, human annotated labels are sometimes inappropriate for learning models. For example, if there is a limb that extends outside an image, a keypoint for the limb may not have annotations because it exists outside of the image, and thus the labels for the lim…
Pose Estimation techniques rely on visual cues available through observations represented in the form of pixels. But the performance is bounded by the frame rate of the video and struggles from motion blur, occlusions, and temporal coherence. This issue is magnified when people are interacting with objects and instruments, for example playing the violin. Standard approaches for postprocessing use interpolation and smoothing functions to filter noise and fill gaps, but they cannot model highly non-linear motion. We present a method that leverages our understanding of the high degree of a causal…

Sign languages are multi-channel visual languages, where signers use a continuous 3D space to communicate.Sign Language Production (SLP), the automatic translation from spoken to sign languages, must embody both the continuous articulation and full morphology of sign to be truly understandable by the Deaf community. Previous deep learning-based SLP works have produced only a concatenation of isolated signs focusing primarily on the manual features, leading to a robotic and non-expressive production. In this work, we propose a novel Progressive Transformer architecture, the first SLP model to t…

Due to depth ambiguities and occlusions, lifting 2D poses to 3D is a highly ill-posed problem. Well-calibrated distributions of possible poses can make these ambiguities explicit and preserve the resulting uncertainty for downstream tasks. This study shows that previous attempts, which account for these ambiguities via multiple hypotheses generation, produce miscalibrated distributions. We identify that miscalibration can be attributed to the use of sample-based metrics such as minMPJPE. In a series of simulations, we show that minimizing minMPJPE, as commonly done, should converge to the corr…
Unsupervised self-rehabilitation exercises and physical training can cause serious injuries if performed incorrectly. We introduce a learning-based framework that identifies the mistakes made by a user and proposes corrective measures for easier and safer individual training. Our framework does not rely on hard-coded, heuristic rules. Instead, it learns them from data, which facilitates its adaptation to specific user needs. To this end, we use a Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) architecture acting on the user's pose sequence to model the relationship between the body joints trajectories. To …
Predicting 3D human pose from a single monoscopic video can be highly challenging due to factors such as low resolution, motion blur and occlusion, in addition to the fundamental ambiguity in estimating 3D from 2D. Approaches that directly regress the 3D pose from independent images can be particularly susceptible to these factors and result in jitter, noise and/or inconsistencies in skeletal estimation. Much of which can be overcome if the temporal evolution of the scene and skeleton are taken into account. However, rather than tracking body parts and trying to temporally smooth them, we prop…
Processing large indoor scenes is a challenging task, as scan registration and camera trajectory estimation methods accumulate errors across time. As a result, the quality of reconstructed scans is insufficient for some applications, such as visual-based localization and navigation, where the correct position of walls is crucial. For many indoor scenes, there exists an image of a technical floorplan that contains information about the geometry and main structural elements of the scene, such as walls, partitions, and doors. We argue that such a floorplan is a useful source of spatial informatio…

Driven by recent computer vision and robotic applications, recovering 3D human poses has become increasingly important and attracted growing interests. In fact, completing this task is quite challenging due to the diverse appearances, viewpoints, occlusions and inherently geometric ambiguities inside monocular images. Most of the existing methods focus on designing some elaborate priors /constraints to directly regress 3D human poses based on the corresponding 2D human pose-aware features or 2D pose predictions. However, due to the insufficient 3D pose data for training and the domain gap betw…
