In 2015 a radial velocity monitoring campaign was started in order to redetermine and/or constrain the orbital solutions of spectroscopic binary systems. The observations were carried out at the University Observatory Jena with the Échelle spectrograph FLECHAS. The results from the main part of our target sample are already published. For the final target of this campaign, $θ$ Cep, we can now present an orbital solution based on a homogeneously covered radial velocity curve. The period of this single-lined spectroscopic binary turns out to be significantly larger and the orbit is much more eccentric compared to the given values in the 9th Catalogue of Spectroscopic Binary Orbits.
Masses of classical Cepheids of 3 to 11 M$\odot$ are predicted by theory but those measured, clump between 3.6 and 5 M$\odot$. As a result, their mass-luminosity relation is poorly constrained, impeding our understanding of basic stellar physics and the Leavitt Law. All Cepheid masses come from the analysis of 11 binary systems, including only 5 double-lined and well-suited for accurate dynamical mass determination. We present a project to analyze a new, numerous group of Cepheids in double-lined binary (SB2) systems to provide mass determinations in a wide mass interval and study their evolut…

Red supergiants are cool massive stars and are the largest and the most luminous stars in the universe. They are characterized by irregular or semi-regular photometric variations, the physics of which is not clearly understood. The paper aims at deriving the velocity field in the red supergiant star $μ$ Cep and relating it to the photometric variability with the help of the tomographic method. The tomographic method allows to recover the line-of-sight velocity distribution over the stellar disk and within different optical-depth slices. The method is applied to a series of high-resolution spec…

We present the first modern analysis of two young, eclipsing binaries, EK Cep and HS Her, based on new, ground-based, CCD multicolour light curves as well as the TESS observations, radial velocity curves, and eclipse timing measurements. The orbital and stellar parameters of the stars are determined by Roche modelling, and their evolutionary status is examined using a grid of isochrones and evolutionary tracks. We find that HS Her is 25-32 Myr old and its components are on the zero-age main sequence; at the age of 16-20 Myr, the primary of EK Cep is also on the ZAMS, but its secondary is a pre…
