The azimuthal decorrelation angle between the leading jet and scattered lepton in deep inelastic scattering is studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The data was taken in the HERA II data-taking period and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 330 $\rm{pb^{-1}}$. Azimuthal angular decorrelation has been proposed to study the $Q^{2}$ dependence of the evolution of the transverse momentum distributions (TMDs) and understand the small-$x$ region, providing unique insight to nucleon structure. Previous decorrelation measurements of two jets have been performed in proton-proton collisions at very high transverse momentum; these measurements are well described by perturbative QCD at next-to-leading order. The azimuthal decorrelation angle obtained in these studies shows good agreement with predictions from Monte Carlo models including leading order matrix elements and parton showers.
New experimental data on charged particle multiplicity distributions are presented, covering the kinematic ranges in momentum transfer $5<Q^{2}<100~\rm GeV^{2}$ and inelasticity $0.0375<y<0.6$. The data was recorded with the H1 experiment at the HERA collider in positron-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 320 GeV. Charged particles are counted with transverse momenta larger than 150 MeV and pseudorapidity $-1.6<η_{\rm lab}<1.6$ in the laboratory frame, corresponding to high acceptance in the current hemisphere of the hadronic centre-of-mass frame. Charged particle multiplicities are reported on a two-dimensional grid of $Q^{2}$, $y$ and on a three-dimensional grid of $Q^{2}$, $y$ and $η$. The observable is the probability $P(N)$ to observe $N$ particles in the given $η$ region. The data are confronted with predictions from Monte Carlo generators, and with a simplistic model based on quantum entanglement and strict parton-hadron duality.
We point out an inconsistency in perturbative QCD predictions previously used for dijet azimuthal decorrelations for azimuthal angles of $Δϕ_{\rm dijet} < 2π/3$ between the two jets. We show how the inconsistency arises and how the calculations can be modified to provide more accurate results that exhibit a smaller scale dependence and give a better description of the data than the inconsistent results. We also explain how the quality of the predictions strongly depends on a perceivedly minor detail in the definition of the dijet phase space and give recommendations for future measurements.
We study the azimuthal angular decorrelation of the dijet production via photon fusion in ultra-peripheral heavy ion collisions. The impact parameter dependent cross section of quark-antiquark pairs production is derived using the equivalent photon approximation, and the contribution from final-state QCD radiations to the azimuthal angular distribution are calculated within Soft-Collinear Effective Theory. We carry out the QCD resummation of large logarithms of the azimuthal angle as well as the jet radius at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. In the end we present the normalized differenti…
Recent progress towards realizing the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) that was announced in 2020 to be built at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in the United States has revived interests in the deep-inelastic-scattering (DIS) data taken from $ep$ collisions at Hadron-Electron Ring Accelerator (HERA). The H1 detector equipped with tracking and fully instrumented calorimeter detectors in its hermetic and asymmetric design is well suited for jet and event shape measurements. Proposed measurements involving jets, global events shapes and correlations in DIS for HERA and EIC focus on the three-dim…
Measurements of dijet azimuthal decorrelations in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV using the CMS detector at the CERN LHC are presented. The analysis is based on an inclusive dijet event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 inverse picobarns. The results are compared to predictions from perturbative QCD calculations and various Monte Carlo event generators. The dijet azimuthal distributions are found to be sensitive to initial-state gluon radiation.
We present a new observable, $Δϕ$, an azimuthal angle difference between $t$ and $\bar{t}$ quarks in $t\bar{t}$ pair production, at hadron colliders as an interesting probe of the radiative quantum chromodynamics process as well as a high-order correction in the high-mass regime. This variable also enables good discrimination on some new physics models that may explain the forward-backward charge asymmetry of $t\bar{t}$ production measured at the Tevatron. With a reliable estimation of the dataset obtained up to 2011 at the Tevatron and Large Hadron Collider, we present an opportunity for test…
This study reports the first measurement of the azimuthal decorrelation between jets with pseudorapidity separation up to five units. The data were accumulated using the DØdetector during the 1992--1993 collider run of the Fermilab Tevatron at $\sqrt{s}=$ 1.8 TeV. These results are compared to next--to--leading order (NLO) QCD predictions and to two leading--log approximations (LLA) where the leading--log terms are resummed to all orders in $α_{\scriptscriptstyle S}$. The final state jets as predicted by NLO QCD show less azimuthal decorrelation than the data. The parton showering LLA Monte Ca…
We introduce a new measurable quantity, $R_{Δϕ}$, for studies of the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of dijet azimuthal decorrelations in hadron-hadron collisions. In pQCD, $R_{Δϕ}$ is computed as a ratio of three-jet and dijet cross sections in which the parton distribution functions cancel to a large extent. At the leading order, $R_{Δϕ}$ is proportional to $α_s$, and the transverse momentum dependence of can therefore be exploited to determine $α_s$. We compute the NLO pQCD theory predictions and non-perturbative corrections for $R_{Δϕ}$ at the LHC and the Tevatron and investiga…

Azimuthal decorrelations between the two central jets with the largest transverse momenta are sensitive to the dynamics of events with multiple jets. We present a measurement of the normalized differential cross section based on the full dataset (L=36/pb) acquired by the ATLAS detector during the 2010 sqrt(s)=7 TeV proton-proton run of the LHC. The measured distributions include jets with transverse momenta up to 1.3 TeV, probing perturbative QCD in a high energy regime.
We present a preliminary measurement of the inclusive jet cross-sections based on an integrated luminosity of 378 pb^{-1} acquired with the D0 detector between 2002 and 2004 at a center of mass energy of \sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV and a measurement of azimuthal dijet decorrelations based on an integrated luminosity of 150 pb^{-1}. The cross section measurements are based on an iterative cone algorithm with a cone size of R=0.7. They are performed in two rapidity bins between 0.0 and 0.8. The measurements are in good agreement with next to leading order calculations. The azimuthal angle between the two …
We present the D0 measurement of correlations in the azimuthal angle between the two largest transverse momentum jets produced in ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy 1.96 TeV in the central rapidity region. The results are based on an inclusive dijet event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 150/pb. Data is in good agreement with next-to-leading order pQCD calculations, and with tuned Pythia, Herwig, Alpgen and Sherpa event generators.
Correlations in the azimuthal angle between the two largest transverse momentum jets have been measured using the D0 detector in pp-bar collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. The analysis is based on an inclusive dijet event sample in the central rapidity region corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 150 pb-1. Azimuthal correlations are stronger at larger transverse momenta. These are well-described in perturbative QCD at next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant, except at large azimuthal differences where soft effects are significant.
A measurement of the decorrelation of azimuthal angles between the two jets with the largest transverse momenta is presented for seven regions of leading jet transverse momentum up to 2.2 TeV. The analysis is based on the proton-proton collision data collected with the CMS experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns. The dijet azimuthal decorrelation is caused by the radiation of additional jets and probes the dynamics of multijet production. The results are compared to fixed-order predictions of perturbative quantum chrom…
The decorrelation in the azimuthal angle between the most forward and the most backward jets (Mueller-Navelet jets) is measured in data collected in pp collisions with the CMS detector at the LHC at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. The measurement is presented in the form of distributions of azimuthal-angle differences, Delta(phi), between the Mueller-Navelet jets, the average cosines of (pi - Delta(phi)), 2(pi - Delta(phi)), and 3(pi - Delta(phi)), and ratios of these cosines. The jets are required to have transverse momenta, pT, in excess of 35 GeV and rapidities, |y|, of less than 4.7. The results are pres…
We present the first combined measurement of the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of dijet azimuthal decorrelations, based on the recently proposed quantity $R_{Δϕ}$. The variable $R_{Δϕ}$ measures the fraction of the inclusive dijet events in which the azimuthal separation of the two jets with the highest transverse momenta is less than a specified value for the parameter $Δϕ_{\rm max}$. The quantity $R_{Δϕ}$ is measured in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96\,$TeV, as a function of the dijet rapidity interval, the total scalar transverse momentum, and $Δϕ_{\rm max}$. The measu…
A measurement of the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of dijet azimuthal decorrelations is presented, using the quantity $R_{Δϕ}$. The quantity $R_{Δϕ}$ specifies the fraction of the inclusive dijet events in which the azimuthal opening angle of the two jets with the highest transverse momenta is less than a given value of the parameter $Δϕ_\mathrm{max}$. The quantity $R_{Δϕ}$ is measured in proton--proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$8 TeV as a function of the dijet rapidity interval, the event total scalar transverse momentum, and $Δϕ_\mathrm{max}$. The azimuthal distribution of jets produced in the Breit frame in high-Q**2 deep inelastic e+p scattering has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 38.6 pb-1. The measured azimuthal distribution shows a structure that is well described by next-to-leading-order QCD predictions over the Q**2 range considered, Q**2>125 GeV**2.
Samples of inclusive photon+2 jet and photon+3 jet events collected by the D0 experiment with an integrated luminosity of about 1fb^-1 in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV are used to measure cross sections as a function of the angle in the plane transverse to the beam direction between the transverse momentum (pT) of the photon+leading jet system (jets are ordered in pT) and pT of the other jet for photon+2 jet, or pT sum of the two other jets for photon+3 jet events. The results are compared to different models of multiple parton interactions (MPI) in the PYTHIA and SHERPA Monte Carlo (MC…
We present results on measurements of jet shapes and jet azimuthal decorrelation from $\overline{p}p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV using data collected during the 1992--1993 run of the Fermilab Tevatron. Jets are seen to narrow both with increasing $E_T$ and increasing rapidity. While HERWIG, a parton shower Monte Carlo, predicts slightly narrower jets, it describes the trend of the data well; NLO QCD describes qualitative features of the data but is sensitive to both renormalization scale and jet definitions. Jet azimuthal decorrelation has been measured out to five units of pseudorapidit…
Two-particle azimuthal correlations have been measured in neutral current deep $\mbox{inelastic}$ $\textit{ep}$ scattering with virtuality $Q^2 > 5$ GeV$^2$ at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=318$ GeV recorded with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The correlations of charged particles have been measured in the range of laboratory pseudorapidity $-1.5 < η< 2.0$ and transverse momentum $0.1 < p_{\textrm{T}}~< 5.0$ GeV and event multiplicities $N_{\textrm{ch}}$ up to six times larger than the average $\left< N_{\textrm{ch}} \right>\approx5$. The two-particle correlations have been measured in terms o…
We provide a description, within the High Energy Factorization formalism, of central-forward dijet decorrelation data measured by the CMS experiment and the predictions for nuclear modification ratio~$R_{pA}$ in p+Pb collisions. In our study, we use the unintegrated gluon density derived from the BFKL and BK equations supplemented with subleading corrections and a hard scale dependence. The latter is introduced at the final step of the calculation by reweighting the Monte Carlo generated events using suitable Sudakov form factors, without changing the total cross section. We achieve a good des…
Deep-inelastic positron-proton scattering events at low photon virtuality Q^2 with a forward jet, produced at small angles with respect to the proton beam, are measured with the H1 detector at HERA. A subsample of events with an additional jet in the central region is also studied. For both samples differential cross sections and normalised distributions are measured as a function of the azimuthal angle difference, Delta phi, between the forward jet and the scattered positron. The sensitivity to QCD evolution mechanisms is tested by comparing the data to predictions of Monte Carlo generators b…
The distribution of the azimuthal angle of charged and neutral hadrons relative to the lepton plane has been studied for neutral current deep inelastic $ep$ scattering using an integrated luminosity of 45 pb-1 taken with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The measurements were made in the hadronic centre-of-mass system. The analysis exploits the energy-flow method, which allows the measurement to be made over a larger range of pseudorapidity compared to previous results. The dependence of the moments of the azimuthal distributions on the pseudorapidity and minimum transverse energy of the final-state …
Additional jet activity in dijet events is measured using $pp$ collisions at ATLAS at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, for jets reconstructed using the anti-kt algorithm with radius parameter R=0.6. This is done using variables such as the fraction of dijet events without an additional jet in the rapidity interval bounded by the dijet subsystem and correlations between the azimuthal angles of the dijets. They are presented, both with and without a veto on additional jet activity in the rapidity interval, as a function of the mean transverse momentum of the dijets and of the rapidity interval …
The azimuthal correlations between local flow planes at different (pseudo)rapidities ($η$) may reveal important details of the initial nuclear matter density distributions in heavy-ion collisions. Extensive experimental measurements of a factorization ratio ($r_2$) and its derivative ($F_2$) have shown evidence of the longitudinal flow-plane decorrelation. However, nonflow effects also affect this observable and prevent a quantitative understanding of the phenomenon. In this paper, to distinguish decorrelation and nonflow effects, we propose a new cumulant observable, $T_2$, which largely supp…
Collective behaviour of final-state hadrons, and multiparton interactions are studied in high-multiplicity $ep$ scattering at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=318$ GeV with the ZEUS detector at HERA. Two- and four-particle azimuthal correlations, as well as multiplicity, transverse momentum, and pseudorapidity distributions for charged-particle multiplicities $N_{\textrm ch} \geq 20$ are measured. The dependence of two-particle correlations on the virtuality of the exchanged photon shows a clear transition from photoproduction to neutral current deep inelastic scattering. For the multipliciti…
The azimuthal decorrelation between a vector boson and a jet is an essential hard probe in high energy proton-proton and heavy-ion collisions. We overcome intrinsic limitations of previous studies by using a recoil-free axis, achieving unprecedented next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy with small nonperturbative corrections. This choice of axis also makes the observable robust in the presence of a large background. Furthermore, the azimuthal angle distribution is minimally changed when determined using only charged particle tracks, which offer superior angular resolution for precise me…
Recent results on the properties of the hadronic final state at the HERA collider are presented. Strangeness production and correlations have been studied in the laboratory system for deep inelastic scattering (DIS). Inclusive $K^0_S$, $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ production has been measured and compared to Monte Carlo model calculations. No significant $Λ$ to $\barΛ$ production asymmetry was observed and the measured $Λ(\barΛ)$ polarisations are consistent with zero. Bose-Einstein correlations between charged and neutral kaons have been studied and the obtained results are compared with the LEP measureme…

Measurements of the dependence of the moments of this distribution on the transverse momenta of the charged hadrons are presented. Asymmetries that can be unambiguously attributed to perturbative QCD processes have been observed for the first time.

The $J/ψ$ decay angular distributions have been measured in inelastic photoproduction in $e p$ collisions with the ZEUS detector at HERA, using an integrated luminosity of 468 $pb^{-1}$. The range in photon-proton centre-of-mass energy, $W$, was 50 $< W <$ 180 $GeV$. The $J/ψ$ mesons were identified through their decay into muon pairs. The polar and azimuthal angles of the $μ^+$ were measured in the $J/ψ$ rest frame and compared to theoretical predictions at leading and next-to-leading order in QCD.
More than 25 years ago, Mueller and Navelet proposed to study the production of two jets separated by a large interval of rapidity at hadron colliders to look for high-energy resummation effects. We here present the results of a next-to-leading logarithmic BFKL study of the azimuthal decorrelation of these jets. This includes next-to-leading corrections both to the Green's function and to the jet vertices. We compare our results with recent LHC data and results obtained in a fixed order treatment.
Mueller Navelet jets were proposed more than 25 years ago as a decisive test of BFKL dynamics at hadron colliders. We here present a complete next-to-leading BFKL study of the azimuthal decorrelation of these jets. This includes both next-to-leading corrections to the Green's function and next-to-leading corrections to the jet vertices. We compare our results with recent data taken at the LHC and results obtained in a fixed order next-to-leading-order (NLO) calculation.
Exclusive electroproduction of rho^0 mesons has been measured using the ZEUS detector at HERA in two Q^2 ranges, 0.25<Q^2<0.85 GeV^2 and 3<Q^2<30 GeV^2. The low-Q^2 data span the range 20<W<90 GeV; the high-Q^2 data cover the 40<W<120 GeV interval. Both samples extend up to four-momentum transfers of |t|=0.6 GeV^2. The distribution in the azimuthal angle between the positron scattering plane and the rho^0 production plane shows a small but significant violation of s-channel helicity conservation, corresponding to the production of longitudinally polarised (i.e. helicity zero) rho^0 mesons from…
The ZEUS detector has been used to study dissociation of virtual photons in events with a leading proton, gamma^* p -> X p, in e^+p collisions at HERA. The data cover photon virtualities in two ranges, 0.03<Q^2<0.60 GeV^2 and 2<Q^2<100 GeV^2, with M_X>1.5 GeV, where M_X is the mass of the hadronic final state, X. Events were required to have a leading proton, detected in the ZEUS leading proton spectrometer, carrying at least 90% of the incoming proton energy. The cross section is presented as a function of t, the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex, Phi, the azimuthal angle be…
The dissociation of virtual photons, $γ^{\star} p \to X p$, in events with a large rapidity gap between $X$ and the outgoing proton, as well as in events in which the leading proton was directly measured, has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The data cover photon virtualities $Q^2>2$ GeV$^2$ and $γ^{\star} p$ centre-of-mass energies $40<W<240$ GeV, with $M_X>2$ GeV, where $M_X$ is the mass of the hadronic final state, $X$. Leading protons were detected in the ZEUS leading proton spectrometer. The cross section is presented as a function of $t$, the squared four-momentum transfer at…
Inclusive dijet and trijet production in deep inelastic $ep$ scattering has been measured for $10<Q^2<100$ GeV$^2$ and low Bjorken $x$, $10^{-4}<x_{\rm Bj}<10^{-2}$. The data were taken at the HERA $ep$ collider with centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 318 \gev$ using the ZEUS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of $82 {\rm pb}^{-1}$. Jets were identified in the hadronic centre-of-mass (HCM) frame using the $k_{T}$ cluster algorithm in the longitudinally invariant inclusive mode. Measurements of dijet and trijet differential cross sections are presented as functions of $Q^2$, $x_…
Single particles and jets in deeply inelastic scattering at low x are measured with the H1 detector in the region away from the current jet and towards the proton remnant, known as the forward region. Hadronic final state measurements in this region are expected to be particularly sensitive to QCD evolution effects. Jet cross-sections are presented as a function of Bjorken-x for forward jets produced with a polar angle to the proton direction, theta, in the range 7 < theta < 20 degrees. Azimuthal correlations are studied between the forward jet and the scattered lepton. Charged and neutral sin…
Measurements of azimuthal angular correlations are presented for high-multiplicity pPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=$ 5.02 TeV and peripheral PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=$ 2.76 TeV. The data used in this work were collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. Fourier coefficients as functions of transverse momentum and pseudorapidity are studied using the scalar product method, 4-, 6-, and 8-particle cumulants, and the Lee-Yang zeros technique. The influence of event plane decorrelation is evaluated using the scalar product method and found to account for most of the obs…
Isolated photons with high transverse energy have been studied in deep inelastic $ep$ scattering with the ZEUS detector at HERA, using an integrated luminosity of $326\,$ pb$^{-1}$ in the range of exchanged-photon virtuality $10 - 350$ GeV$^2$. Outgoing isolated photons with transverse energy $4<E_T^γ< 15$ GeV and pseudorapidity $-0.7 <η^γ< 0.9$ were measured with accompanying jets having transverse energy and pseudorapidity $2.5 <E_T^{jet}<35$ GeV and $-1.5<η^{jet}< 1.8$, respectively. Differential cross sections are presented for the following variables: the fraction of the incoming photon e…
In this extended analysis using the ZEUS detector at HERA, the photoproduction of isolated photons together with a jet is measured for different ranges of the fractional photon energy, $x_γ^{\mathrm{meas}}$, contributing to the photon-jet final state. The kinematic observables studied comprise …
The first measurement of lepton-jet momentum imbalance and azimuthal correlation in lepton-proton scattering at high momentum transfer is presented. These data, taken with the H1 detector at HERA, are corrected for detector effects using an unbinned machine learning algorithm OmniFold, which considers eight observables simultaneously in this first application. The unfolded cross sections are compared to calculations performed within the context of collinear or transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) factorization in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) as well as Monte Carlo event generators. The measurem…
