In this paper we extend the polynomial time integration framework to include exponential integration for both partitioned and unpartitioned initial value problems. We then demonstrate the utility of the exponential polynomial framework by constructing a new class of parallel exponential polynomial block methods (EPBMs) based on the Legendre points. These new integrators can be constructed at arbitrary orders of accuracy and have improved stability compared to existing exponential linear multistep methods. Moreover, if the ODE right-hand side evaluations can be parallelized efficiently, then high-order EPBMs are significantly more efficient at obtaining highly accurate solutions than exponential linear multistep methods and exponential spectral deferred correction methods of equivalent order.
The recently introduced polynomial time integration framework proposes a novel way to construct time integrators for solving systems of first-order ordinary differential equation by using interpolating polynomials in the complex time plane. In this work we continue to develop the framework by introducing several additional types of polynomials and proposing a general class of construction strategies for polynomial block methods with imaginary nodes. The new construction strategies do not involve algebraic order conditions and are instead motivated by geometric arguments similar to those used f…

We present a new linearly implicit exponential integrator that preserves the polynomial first integrals or Lyapunov functions for the conservative and dissipative stiff equations, respectively. The method is tested by both oscillated ordinary differential equations and partial differential equations, e.g., an averaged system in wind-induced oscillation, the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam systems, and the polynomial pendulum oscillators. The numerical simulations confirm the conservative properties of the proposed method and demonstrate its good behavior in superior running speed when compared with fully imp…
A real square matrix is Perron-like if it has a real eigenvalue $s$, called the principal eigenvalue of the matrix, and $\mbox{Re}\,μ<s$ for any other eigenvalue $μ$. Nonnegative matrices and symmetric ones are typical examples of this class of matrices. The main purpose of this paper is to develop a set of new schemes to compute the principal eigenvalues of Perron-like matrices and the associated generalized eigenspaces by using polynomial approximations of matrix exponentials. Numerical examples show that these schemes are effective in practice.

We study the approximation of compact linear operators defined over certain weighted tensor product Hilbert spaces. The information complexity is defined as the minimal number of arbitrary linear functionals which is needed to obtain an $\varepsilon$-approximation for the $d$-variate problem. It is fully determined in terms of the weights and univariate singular values. Exponential tractability means that the information complexity is bounded by a certain function which depends polynomially on $d$ and logarithmically on $\varepsilon^{-1}$. The corresponding un-weighted problem was studied rece…
In the past few decades polynomial curves with Pythagorean Hodograph (for short PH curves) have received considerable attention due to their usefulness in various CAD/CAM areas, manufacturing, numerical control machining and robotics. This work deals with classes of PH curves built-upon exponential-polynomial spaces (for short EPH curves). In particular, for the two most frequently encountered exponential-polynomial spaces, we first provide necessary and sufficient conditions to be satisfied by the control polygon of the Bézier-like curve in order to fulfill the PH property. Then, for such EPH…
Low-rank tensors are an established framework for high-dimensional least-squares problems. We propose to extend this framework by including the concept of block-sparsity. In the context of polynomial regression each sparsity pattern corresponds to some subspace of homogeneous multivariate polynomials. This allows us to adapt the ansatz space to align better with known sample complexity results. The resulting method is tested in numerical experiments and demonstrates improved computational resource utilization and sample efficiency.
