Well-posedness of boundary value problems for a class of second order degenerate elliptic equations

In this paper, we study the well-posedness of boundary value problems for a special class of degenerate elliptic equations coming from geometry. Such problems is intimately tied to rigidity problem arising in infinitesimal isometric deformation, The characteristic form of this class of equations is changing its signs in the domain. Therefore the well-posedness of these above problems deserve to make a further discussion. Finally, we get the existence and uniqueness of $H^1$ solution for such boundary value problems.

Optimal gradient continuity for degenerate elliptic equations

We establish new, optimal gradient continuity estimates for solutions to a class of 2nd order partial differential equations, $\mathscr{L}(X, \nabla u, D^2 u) = f$, whose diffusion properties (ellipticity) degenerate along the \textit{a priori} unknown singular set of an existing solution, $\mathscr{S}(u) := \{X : \nabla u(X) = 0 \}$. Given a linear elliptic equation $\sum a_{ij} u_{ij} =0$ in $\mathbb{R}^3$, it is a classical problem to determine if its degree-one homogeneous solutions $u$ are linear. The answer is negative in general, by a construction of Martinez-Maure. We prove existence of solutions to boundary value problems and obstacle problems for degenerate-elliptic, linear, second-order partial differential operators with partial Dirichlet boundary conditions using a new version of the Perron method. Nonuniqueness for a fully nonlinear, degenerate elliptic boundary value problem in conformal geometry

We study the problem of conformally deforming a manifold with boundary to have vanishing σ4-curvature in the interior and constant H4- curvature on the boundary. We prove that there are geometrically distinct solutions using bifurcation results proven by Case, Moreira and Wang. Surprisingly, our construction via products of a sphere and hyperbolic space only works for a finite set of dimensions.
