Event cameras are bioinspired sensors with reaction times in the order of microseconds. This property makes them appealing for use in highly-dynamic computer vision applications. In this work,we explore the limits of this sensing technology and present an ultra-fast tracking algorithm able to estimate six-degree-of-freedom motion with dynamics over 25.8 g, at a throughput of 10 kHz,processing over a million events per second. Our method is capable of tracking either camera motion or the motion of an object in front of it, using an error-state Kalman filter formulated in a Lie-theoretic sense. The method includes a robust mechanism for the matching of events with projected line segments with very fast outlier rejection. Meticulous treatment of sparse matrices is applied to achieve real-time performance. Different motion models of varying complexity are considered for the sake of comparison and performance analysis
This paper proposes a process that uses two cameras to obtain three-dimensional (3D) information of a target object for human tracking. Results of human detection and tracking from two cameras are integrated to obtain the 3D information. OpenPose is used for human detection. In the case of a general processing a stereo camera, a range image of the entire scene is acquired as precisely as possible, and then the range image is processed. However, there are problems such as incorrect matching and computational cost for the calibration process. A new stereo vision framework is proposed to cope wit…

We consider the problem of tracking the 6D pose of a moving RGB-D camera in a neural scene representation. Different such representations have recently emerged, and we investigate the suitability of them for the task of camera tracking. In particular, we propose to track an RGB-D camera using a signed distance field-based representation and show that compared to density-based representations, tracking can be sped up, which enables more robust and accurate pose estimates when computation time is limited.

Non-overlapping multi-camera visual object tracking typically consists of two steps: single camera object tracking and inter-camera object tracking. Most of tracking methods focus on single camera object tracking, which happens in the same scene, while for real surveillance scenes, inter-camera object tracking is needed and single camera tracking methods can not work effectively. In this paper, we try to improve the overall multi-camera object tracking performance by a global graph model with an improved similarity metric. Our method treats the similarities of single camera tracking and inter-…

This paper investigates two typical image-type representations for event camera-based tracking: time surface (TS) and event map (EM). Based on the original TS-based tracker, we make use of these two representations' complementary strengths to develop an enhanced version. The proposed tracker consists of a general strategy to evaluate the optimization problem's degeneracy online and then switch proper representations. Both TS and EM are motion- and scene-dependent, and thus it is important to figure out their limitations in tracking. We develop six tracker variations and conduct a thorough comp…

We present Mono-STAR, the first real-time 3D reconstruction system that simultaneously supports semantic fusion, fast motion tracking, non-rigid object deformation, and topological change under a unified framework. The proposed system solves a new optimization problem incorporating optical-flow-based 2D constraints to deal with fast motion and a novel semantic-aware deformation graph (SAD-graph) for handling topology change. We test the proposed system under various challenging scenes and demonstrate that it significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods.
Event cameras are bio-inspired vision sensors that output pixel-level brightness changes instead of standard intensity frames. These cameras do not suffer from motion blur and have a very high dynamic range, which enables them to provide reliable visual information during high-speed motions or in scenes characterized by high dynamic range. These features, along with a very low power consumption, make event cameras an ideal complement to standard cameras for VR/AR and video game applications. With these applications in mind, this paper tackles the problem of accurate, low-latency tracking of an…

Active Object Tracking (AOT) is crucial to many visionbased applications, e.g., mobile robot, intelligent surveillance. However, there are a number of challenges when deploying active tracking in complex scenarios, e.g., target is frequently occluded by obstacles. In this paper, we extend the single-camera AOT to a multi-camera setting, where cameras tracking a target in a collaborative fashion. In this study, a multiple hypothesis tracking (MHT) algorithm for multi-target multi-camera tracking (MCT) with disjoint views is proposed. Our method forms track-hypothesis trees, and each branch of them represents a multi-camera track of a target that may move within a camera as well as move across cameras. Furthermore, multi-target tracking within a camera is performed simultaneously with the tree formation by manipulating a status of each track hypothesis. Each status represents three different stages of a multi-camera track: tracking, searching, and end-of-track. The tracking status means…
Although many methods perform well in single camera tracking, multi-camera tracking remains a challenging problem with less attention. DukeMTMC is a large-scale, well-annotated multi-camera tracking benchmark which makes great progress in this field. This report is dedicated to briefly introduce our method on DukeMTMC and show that simple hierarchical clustering with well-trained person re-identification features can get good results on this dataset.

Estimating human motion from video is an active research area due to its many potential applications. Most state-of-the-art methods predict human shape and posture estimates for individual images and do not leverage the temporal information available in video. Many "in the wild" sequences of human motion are captured by a moving camera, which adds the complication of conflated camera and human motion to the estimation. We therefore present BodySLAM, a monocular SLAM system that jointly estimates the position, shape, and posture of human bodies, as well as the camera trajectory. We also introdu…
Multi-camera tracking systems are gaining popularity in applications that demand high-quality tracking results, such as frictionless checkout because monocular multi-object tracking (MOT) systems often fail in cluttered and crowded environments due to occlusion. Multiple highly overlapped cameras can significantly alleviate the problem by recovering partial 3D information. However, the cost of creating a high-quality multi-camera tracking dataset with diverse camera settings and backgrounds has limited the dataset scale in this domain. In this paper, we provide a large-scale densely-labeled mu…

Low latency and accuracy are fundamental requirements when vision is integrated in robots for high-speed interaction with targets, since they affect system reliability and stability. In such a scenario, the choice of the sensor and algorithms is important for the entire control loop. The technology of event-cameras can guarantee fast visual sensing in dynamic environments, but requires a tracking algorithm that can keep up with the high data rate induced by the robot ego-motion while maintaining accuracy and robustness to distractors. In this paper, we introduce a novel tracking method that le…

Multi-target multi-camera tracking (MTMCT) systems track targets across cameras. Due to the continuity of target trajectories, tracking systems usually restrict their data association within a local neighborhood. In single camera tracking, local neighborhood refers to consecutive frames; in multi-camera tracking, it refers to neighboring cameras that the target may appear successively. For similarity estimation, tracking systems often adopt appearance features learned from the re-identification (re-ID) perspective. Different from tracking, re-ID usually does not have access to the trajectory c…
Event cameras are a paradigm shift in camera technology. Instead of full frames, the sensor captures a sparse set of events caused by intensity changes. Since only the changes are transferred, those cameras are able to capture quick movements of objects in the scene or of the camera itself. In this work we propose a novel method to perform camera tracking of event cameras in a panoramic setting with three degrees of freedom. We propose a direct camera tracking formulation, similar to state-of-the-art in visual odometry. We show that the minimal information needed for simultaneous tracking and …

In this paper, a unified three-layer hierarchical approach for solving tracking problems in multiple non-overlapping cameras is proposed. Given a video and a set of detections (obtained by any person detector), we first solve within-camera tracking employing the first two layers of our framework and, then, in the third layer, we solve across-camera tracking by merging tracks of the same person in all cameras in a simultaneous fashion. To best serve our purpose, a constrained dominant sets clustering (CDSC) technique, a parametrized version of standard quadratic optimization, is employed to sol…
In this paper, we propose a pipeline for multi-target visual tracking under multi-camera system. For multi-camera system tracking problem, efficient data association across cameras, and at the same time, across frames becomes more important than single-camera system tracking. However, most of the multi-camera tracking algorithms emphasis on single camera across frame data association. Thus in our work, we model our tracking problem as a global graph, and adopt Generalized Maximum Multi Clique optimization problem as our core algorithm to take both across frame and across camera data correlatio…
This letter focuses on the task of Multi-Target Multi-Camera vehicle tracking. We propose to associate single-camera trajectories into multi-camera global trajectories by training a Graph Convolutional Network. Our approach simultaneously processes all cameras providing a global solution, and it is also robust to large cameras unsynchronizations. Furthermore, we design a new loss function to deal with class imbalance. Our proposal outperforms the related work showing better generalization and without requiring ad-hoc manual annotations or thresholds, unlike compared approaches.

Increasing demand for meat products combined with farm labor shortages has resulted in a need to develop new real-time solutions to monitor animals effectively. Significant progress has been made in continuously locating individual pigs using tracking-by-detection methods. However, these methods fail for oblong pens because a single fixed camera does not cover the entire floor at adequate resolution. We address this problem by using multiple cameras, placed such that the visual fields of adjacent cameras overlap, and together they span the entire floor. Avoiding breaks in tracking requires int…

To track the 3D locations and trajectories of the other traffic participants at any given time, modern autonomous vehicles are equipped with multiple cameras that cover the vehicle's full surroundings. Yet, camera-based 3D object tracking methods prioritize optimizing the single-camera setup and resort to post-hoc fusion in a multi-camera setup. In this paper, we propose a method for panoramic 3D object tracking, called CC-3DT, that associates and models object trajectories both temporally and across views, and improves the overall tracking consistency. In particular, our method fuses 3D detec…
Event-based vision sensors mimic the operation of biological retina and they represent a major paradigm shift from traditional cameras. Instead of providing frames of intensity measurements synchronously, at artificially chosen rates, event-based cameras provide information on brightness changes asynchronously, when they occur. Such non-redundant pieces of information are called "events". These sensors overcome some of the limitations of traditional cameras (response time, bandwidth and dynamic range) but require new methods to deal with the data they output. We tackle the problem of event-bas…

Recent progresses in visual tracking have greatly improved the tracking performance. However, challenges such as occlusion and view change remain obstacles in real world deployment. A natural solution to these challenges is to use multiple cameras with multiview inputs, though existing systems are mostly limited to specific targets (e.g. human), static cameras, and/or camera calibration. To break through these limitations, we propose a generic multiview tracking (GMT) framework that allows camera movement, while requiring neither specific object model nor camera calibration. A key innovation i…

In this paper, we propose a tracking method which uses motion cues and a feature aggregation network for template-based person re-identification by incorporating metadata such as person bounding box and camera information. Object tracking is a key aspect in many applications such as augmented reality in medicine (e.g. tracking a surgical instrument) or robotics. Squared planar markers have become popular tools for tracking since their pose can be estimated from their four corners. While using a single marker and a single camera limits the working area considerably, using multiple markers attached to an object requires estimating their relative position, which is not trivial, for high accuracy tracking. Likewise, using multiple cameras requires estimating their extrinsic parameters, also a tedious process that mu…
Target tracking in a camera network is an important task for surveillance and scene understanding. The task is challenging due to disjoint views and illumination variation in different cameras. In this direction, many graph-based methods were proposed using appearance-based features. However, the appearance information fades with high illumination variation in the different camera FOVs. We, in this paper, use spatial and temporal information as the state of the target to learn a policy that predicts the next camera given the current state. The policy is trained using Q-learning and it does not…

Pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras are powerful to support object identification and recognition in far-field scenes. However, the effective use of PTZ cameras in real contexts is complicated by the fact that a continuous on-line camera calibration is needed and the absolute pan, tilt and zoom positional values provided by the camera actuators cannot be used because are not synchronized with the video stream. So, accurate calibration must be directly extracted from the visual content of the frames. Moreover, the large and abrupt scale changes, the scene background changes due to the camera operation …
