This paper investigates the feasibility of automated reasoning over temporal DL-Lite (TDL-Lite) knowledge bases (KBs). We test the usage of off-the-shelf LTL reasoners to check satisfiability of TDL-Lite KBs. In particular, we test the robustness and the scalability of reasoners when dealing with TDL-Lite TBoxes paired with a temporal ABox. We conduct various experiments to analyse the performance of different reasoners by randomly generating TDL-Lite KBs and then measuring the running time and the size of the translations. Furthermore, in an effort to make the usage of TDL-Lite KBs a reality, we present a fully fledged tool with a graphical interface to design them. Our interface is based on conceptual modelling principles and it is integrated with our translation tool and a temporal reasoner.

This paper aims at demonstrating how a first-order logic reasoning system in combination with a large knowledge base can be understood as an artificial consciousness system. For this we review some aspects from the area of philosophy of mind and in particular Tononi's Information Integration Theory (IIT) and Baars' Global Workspace Theory. These will be applied to the reasoning system Hyper with ConceptNet as a knowledge base within a scenario of commonsense and cognitive reasoning. Finally we demonstrate that such a system is very well able to do conscious mind wandering.

OWL 2 has been standardized by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) as a family of ontology languages for the Semantic Web. The most expressive of these languages is OWL 2 Full, but to date no reasoner has been implemented for this language. Consistency and entailment checking are known to be undecidable for OWL 2 Full. Deontic logic is a very well researched branch of mathematical logic and philosophy. Various kinds of deontic logics are discussed for different application domains like argumentation theory, legal reasoning, and acts in multi-agent systems. In this paper, we show how standard deontic logic can be stepwise transformed into description logic and DL- clauses, such that it can be processed by Hyper, a high performance theorem prover which uses a hypertableau calculus. Two use cases, one from multi-agent research and one from the development of normative system are investigated.

A prototype for automated reasoning over legal texts, called NAI, is presented. As an input, NAI accepts formalized logical representations of such legal texts that can be created and curated using an integrated annotation interface. The prototype supports automated reasoning over the given text representation and multiple quality assurance procedures. The pragmatics of the NAI suite as well its feasibility in practical applications is studied on a fragment of the Smoking Prohibition (Children in Motor Vehicles) (Scotland) Act 2016 of the Scottish Parliament.

Deontic logic is a very well researched branch of mathematical logic and philosophy. Various kinds of deontic logics are considered for different application domains like argumentation theory, legal reasoning, and acts in multi-agent systems. In this paper, we outline the prototype of an automated inference tool, called QUIP, which provides a uniform implementation for several nonmonotonic reasoning formalisms.
