In this paper we establish new geometric and analytic bounds for Ricci flows, which will form the basis of a compactness, partial regularity and structure theory for Ricci flows in [Bam20a, Bam20b].
The bounds are optimal up to a constant that only depends on the dimension and possibly a lower scalar curvature bound. In the special case in which the flow consists of Einstein metrics, these bounds agree with the optimal bounds for spaces with Ricci curvature bounded from below. Moreover, our bounds are local in the sense that if a bound depends on the collapsedness of the underlying flow, then we are able to quantify this dependence using the pointed Nash entropy based only at the point in question.
Among other things, we will show the following bounds: Upper and lower volume bounds for distance balls, dependence of the pointed Nash entropy on its basepoint in space and time, pointwise upper Gaussian bound on the heat kernel and a bound on its derivative and an $L^1$-Poincaré inequality. The proofs of these bounds will, in part, rely on a monotonicity formula for a notion, called variance of conjugate heat kernels.
We will also derive estimates concerning the dependence of the pointed Nash entropy on its basepoint, which are asymptotically optimal. These will allow us to show that points in spacetime that are nearby in a certain sense have comparable pointed Nash entropy. Hence the pointed Nash entropy is a good quantity to measure local collapsedness of a Ricci flow
Our results imply a local $\varepsilon$-regularity theorem, improving a result of Hein and Naber. Some of our results also hold for super Ricci flows.
In this note we obtain local derivative estimates of Shi-type for the heat equation coupled to the Ricci flow. As applications, in part combining with Kuang's work, we extend some results of Zhang and Bamler-Zhang including distance distortion estimates and a backward pseudolocality theorem for Ricci flow on compact manifolds to the noncompact case.
In this paper, we systematically study the heat kernel of the Ricci flows induced by Ricci shrinkers. We develop several estimates which are much sharper than their counterparts in general closed Ricci flows. Many classical results, including the optimal Logarithmic Sobolev constant estimate, the Sobolev constant estimate, the no-local-collapsing theorem, the pseudo-locality theorem and the strong maximum principle for curvature tensors, are essentially improved for Ricci flows induced by Ricci shrinkers. Our results provide many necessary tools to analyze short time singularities of the Ricci…
This paper is the sequel to our study of heat kernels on Ricci shrinkers in \cite{LW20}. In this paper, we improve many estimates in \cite{LW20} and extend the recent progress of Bamler \cite{Bam20a}. In particular, we drop the compactness and curvature boundedness assumptions and show that the theory of $\IF$-convergence holds naturally on any Ricci flows induced by Ricci shrinkers.
On gradient shrinking Ricci solitons, we observe that the study of Schrödinger heat kernel seems to be more natural than the classical heat kernel. In this paper we derive sharp Gaussian upper bounds for the Schrödinger heat kernel on complete gradient shrinking Ricci solitons. As applications, we prove sharp upper bounds for the Green's function of the Schrödinger operator. We also prove sharp lower bounds for eigenvalues of the Schrödinger operator. These sharp cases are all achieved at Euclidean Gaussian shrinking Ricci solitons.
We prove the existence of Sobolev extension operators for certain uniform classes of domains in a Riemannian manifold with an explicit uniform bound on the norm depending only on the geometry near their boundaries. We use this quantitative estimate to obtain uniform Neumann heat kernel upper bounds and gradient estimates for positive solutions of the Neumann heat equation assuming integral Ricci curvature conditions and geometric conditions on the boundary. Those estimates also imply quantitative lower bounds on the first Neumann eigenvalue of the considered domains.
In this paper, we consider solutions of the backward heat equation with Ricci flow on manifolds as a type of infinite dimensional limit of solutions of a wave equation on a larger manifold with an analysis of wavefront set. Specifically, the projection of the solution of the wave equation $ \left(\frac{2t}{N} \cdot \frac{\partial^{2}}{\partial t^{2}} + \frac{tR(t, x)}{N} \frac{\partial}{\partial t} - Δ_{\tilde{g}^{(N)}(t)} \right) u = R(t, x) $ outside its wavefront set onto $ \mathbb{R}_{t} \times M_{x, g(t)} $ solves the backward heat equation $ \partial_{t} u + Δ_{x, g(t)} u = -R(t, x) $ wi…
The aim of this article is to provide a Liouville theorem for heat equation along ancient super Ricci flow. We formulate such a Liouville theorem under a growth condition concerning Perelman's reduced distance.
This is first of series papers on new two-side Gaussian bounds for the heat kernel $H(x,y,t)$ on a complete manifold $(M,g)$. In this paper, on a complete manifold $M$ with $Ric(M)\geq 0$, we obtain new two-side Gaussian bounds for the heat kernel $H(x,y,t)$, which improve the well-known Li-Yau's two-side bounds. As applications of our new two-side Gaussian bounds, We obtain a sharp gradient estimate and a Laplacian estimate for the heat kernel on a complete manifold with $Ric(M)\geq 0$, and we also give a simpler proof for the result concerning the asymptotic behavior in the time variable for…
On a complete non-compact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton, we prove the analyticity in time for smooth solutions of the heat equation with quadratic exponential growth in the space variable. This growth condition is sharp. As an application, we give a necessary and sufficient condition on the solvability of the backward heat equation in a class of functions with quadratic exponential growth on shrinkers.
In this paper we reconcile several different approaches to Ricci flow through singularities that have been proposed over the last few years by Kleiner-Lott, Haslhofer-Naber and Bamler. Specifically, we prove that every noncollapsed limit of Ricci flows, as provided by Bamler's precompactness theorem, as well as every singular Ricci flow from Kleiner-Lott, is a weak solution in the sense of Haslhofer-Naber. We also generalize all path-space estimates from Haslhofer-Naber to the setting of noncollapsed Ricci limit flows. The key step to establish these results is a new hitting estimate for Brown…
Given any $d$-dimensional Lipschitz Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$ with heat kernel $\mathsf{p}$, we establish uniform upper bounds on $\mathsf{p}$ which can always be decoupled in space and time. More precisely, we prove the existence of a constant $C>0$ and a bounded Lipschitz function $R\colon M \to (0,\infty)$ such that for every $x\in M$ and every $t>0$, \begin{align*} \sup_{y\in M} \mathsf{p}(t,x,y) \leq C\min\{t, R^2(x)\}^{-d/2}. \end{align*} This allows us to identify suitable weighted Lebesgue spaces w.r.t. the given volume measure as subsets of the Kato class induced by $(M,g)$. In the …
In a previous work, the authors introduced a Lin-Lu-Yau type Ricci curvature for directed graphs referring to the formulation of the Chung Laplacian. The aim of this note is to provide a von Renesse-Sturm type characterization of our lower Ricci curvature bound via a gradient estimate for the heat semigroup, and a transportation inequality along the heat flow. As an application, we will conclude a concentration of measure inequality for directed graphs of positive Ricci curvature.
We establish effective existence and uniqueness for the heat flow on time-dependent Riemannian manifolds, under minimal assumptions tailored towards the study of Ricci flow through singularities. The main point is that our estimates only depend on an upper bound for the logarithmic derivative of the volume measure. In particular, our estimates hold for any Ricci flow with scalar curvature bounded below, and such a lower bound of course depends only on the initial data.
Inspired by Hongjie Dong and Qi S. Zhang's article \cite{ZQ2}, we find that the analyticity in time for a smooth solution of the heat equation with exponential quadratic growth in the space variable can be extended to any complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds with Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature bounded below and the potential function being of at most quadratic growth. Therefore, our result holds on all gradient Ricci solitons. As a corollary, we give a necessary and sufficient condition on the solvability of the backward heat equation in a class of functions with the similar growth condition.…
