Search for heavy resonances decaying into a photon and a hadronically decaying Higgs boson in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV with the ATLAS detector
This Letter presents a search for the production of new heavy resonances decaying into a Higgs boson and a photon using proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$^{-1}$. The analysis is performed by reconstructing hadronically decaying Higgs boson $(H\to b\bar{b})$ candidates as single large-radius jets. A novel algorithm using information about the jet constituents in the center-of-mass frame of the jet is implemented to identify the two $b$-quarks in the single jet. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected background. Upper limits are set on the production cross-section times branching fraction for narrow spin-1 resonances decaying into a Higgs boson and a photon in the resonance mass range from 0.7 to 4 TeV, cross-sections times branching fraction are excluded between 11.6 fb and 0.11 fb at a 95% confidence level.
This paper presents a study of the production of $WW$ or $WZ$ boson pairs, with one $W$ boson decaying to $eν$ or $μν$ and one $W$ or $Z$ boson decaying hadronically. The analysis uses 20.2 fb$^{-1}$ of $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV $pp$ collision data, collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Cross-sections for $WW/WZ$ production are measured in high-$p_{T}$ fiducial regions defined close to the experimental event selection. The cross-section is measured for the case where the hadronically decaying boson is reconstructed as two resolved jets, and the case where it is reconstructed as …
A search is presented for dark matter produced in association with a hadronically decaying W or Z boson using 3.2 /fb of pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with a hadronic jet compatible with a W or Z boson and with large missing transverse momentum are analysed. The data are consistent with the Standard Model predictions and are interpreted in terms of both an effective field theory and a simplified model containing dark matter.

This paper reports a detailed study of techniques for identifying boosted, hadronically decaying $W$ bosons using 20fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} =$ 8 TeV. A range of techniques for optimising the signal jet mass resolution are combined with various jet substructure variables. The results of these studies in Monte Carlo simulations show that a simple pairwise combination of groomed jet mass and one substructure variable can provide a 50% efficiency for identifying $W$ bosons with transverse momenta larg…

Search for dark matter in events with a hadronically decaying W or Z boson and missing transverse momentum in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector
Energy correlators are field-theoretically clean and phenomenologically valuable probes of QCD dynamics. We explore the possibility of using the information encoded in the energy correlators of a hadronically decaying electroweak vector boson in order to extract its full decay density matrix. The kinematics of the one- and two-point energy correlators can indeed discriminate between longitudinal and transverse modes and reveal the interference pattern between different vector polarizations. Such observables improve the sensitivity to microscopic new physics affecting the production rate of the…

A new algorithm for the identification of boosted, hadronically decaying, heavy particles at the LHC is presented. The algorithm is based on the known procedure of jet clustering with variable distance parameter $R$ and adapts the jet size to its transverse momentum $p_T$. Subjets are found using a mass jump condition. The resulting algorithm - called Heavy Object Tagger with Variable $R$ (HOTVR) - features little algorithmic complexity and combines jet clustering, subjet finding and rejection of soft clusters in one sequence. While the HOTVR algorithm can be used for the identification of any…

The distribution of particles inside hadronic jets produced in the decay of boosted $W$ and $Z$ bosons can be used to discriminate such jets from the continuum background. Given that a jet has been identified as likely resulting from the hadronic decay of a boosted $W$ or $Z$ boson, this paper presents a technique for further differentiating $Z$ bosons from $W$ bosons. The variables used are jet mass, jet charge, and a b-tagging discriminant. A likelihood tagger is constructed from these variables and tested in the simulation of $W'\rightarrow WZ$ for bosons in the transverse momentum range 20…

The data for the analysis correspond to $20.2$ fb$^{-1}$ of $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV $pp$ collisions, and were collected in 2012 by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The search looks for the production of $WW$ or $WZ$ boson pairs accompanied by a high-mass dijet system, with one $W$ decaying leptonically, and a $W$ or $Z$ decaying hadronically. The hadronically decaying $W/Z$ is reconstructed as either two small-radius jets or one large-radius jet using jet substructure techniques. Constraint…
A measurement of jet substructure variables is presented using data collected in 2016 by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC with proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. Large-radius jets groomed with the trimming and soft-drop algorithms are studied. Dedicated event selections are used to study jets produced by light quarks or gluons, and hadronically decaying top quarks and $W$ bosons. The variables measured are sensitive to pronged substructure, and therefore are typically used for tagging jets from boosted massive particles. These include the energy correlation functions and the $N$-sub…

Many models beyond the standard model predict the existence of vector-like quarks or other types of heavy resonances. Using proton-proton collision data at center-of-mass energies of 8 and 13 TeV, the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations have performed a multitude of searches for pair and singly produced vector-like quarks decaying to W, Z, or Higgs bosons. Heavy gauge and (pseudo)scalar resonances decaying to top quarks have been searched for as well. No evidence for any of these hypothetical particles has been found yet, and stringent exclusion limits are derived on their masses, cross sections and …

Searches for high-mass resonances decaying to pairs of standard model bosons using ATLAS and CMS detectors are presented. The searches use 15 - 36 $\textrm{fb}^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data collected at the centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the LHC. Many different final states have been considered and the results are interpreted in a range of theories beyond the standard model of particle physics, most common being heavy vector triplet and warped extra dimensions.
