With large active volume sizes dark matter direct detection experiments are sensitive to solar neutrino fluxes. Nuclear recoil signals are induced by $^8$B neutrinos, while electron recoils are mainly generated by the pp flux. Measurements of both processes offer an opportunity to test neutrino properties at low thresholds with fairly low backgrounds. In this paper we study the sensitivity of these experiments to neutrino magnetic dipole moments assuming 1, 10 and 40 tonne active volumes (representative of XENON1T, XENONnT and DARWIN), 0.3 keV and 1 keV thresholds. We show that with nuclear recoil measurements alone a 40 tonne detector could be as competitive as Borexino, TEXONO and GEMMA, with sensitivities of order $8.0\times 10^{-11}\,μ_B$ at the $90\%$ CL after one year of data taking. Electron recoil measurements will increase sensitivities way below these values allowing to test regions not excluded by astrophysical arguments. Using electron recoil data and depending on performance, the same detector will be able to explore values down to $4.0\times 10^{-12}μ_B$ at the $90\%$ CL in one year of data taking. By assuming a 200-tonne liquid xenon detector operating during 10 years, we conclude that sensitivities in this type of detectors will be of order $10^{-12}\,μ_B$. Reducing statistical uncertainties may enable improving sensitivities below these values.
In this paper analytical expressions are derived to describe the spin motion of a particle in magnetic and electric fields in the presence of an axion field causing an oscillating electric dipole moment (EDM). These equations are used to estimate statistical sensitivities for axion searches at storage rings. The estimates obtained from the analytic expressions are compared to numerical estimates from simulations in S.P. Chang et al (Phys.Rev. D99 (2019) no.8, 083002). A good agreement is found.
In the context of supersymmetry, the two-loop Barr-Zee diagrams which induce CP-violating electric dipole moment of electron due to superpartners simultaneously yield CP-conserving magnetic dipole moment of muon. In this paper, we derive the coherence between the electric and magnetic dipole moments at two-loop level due to stops, charginos or neutralinos-charginos. We also use the coherence to constrain superpartner masses and their CP-violating phases, in the light of recent ACME limit on the electric dipole moment of electron and future experiments about magnetic dipole moment of muon such …
We examine the prospects for discovering new physics through muon dipole moments. The current deviation in $g_μ-2$ may be due entirely to the muon's {\em electric} dipole moment. We note that the precession frequency in the proposed BNL muon EDM experiment is also subject to a similar ambiguity, but this can be resolved by up-down asymmetry measurements. We then review the theoretical expectations for the muon's electric dipole moment in supersymmetric models.
Searches for permanent electric dipole moments of fundamental particles and systems with spin are the experiments most sensitive to new CP violating physics and a top priority of a growing international community. We briefly review the current status of the field emphasizing on the charged leptons and lightest baryons.
This paper reviews the theoretical predictions for and the experimental measurements of the anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments of the tau lepton. In particular, recent analyses of the $\eettg$ process from the L3 and OPAL collaborations are described. The most precise results, from L3, for the anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments respectively are: $\atau = 0.004 \pm 0.027 \pm 0.023$ and $\dtau = (0.0 \pm 1.5 \pm 1.3)\times 10^{-16}{e{\cdot}\mathrm{cm}}$.
Using the effective Lagrangian formalism, the anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments of the tau-lepton in the $μ^{+}μ^{-} \rightarrow μ^{+}γ^{*} γ^{*} μ^{-}\rightarrow μ^{+}τ\barτμ^{-}$ process at the future muon colliders at the $\sqrt{s}=1.5, 3$ and $6$ TeV are investigated. In addition, the bounds at the $95\%$ confidence level on the dipole moments of the tau-lepton using different integrated luminosities are estimated. It is shown that the $μ^{+}μ^{-} \rightarrow μ^{+}γ^{*} γ^{*} μ^{-}\rightarrow μ^{+}τ\barτμ^{-}$ process leads to a remarkable improvement in the existing experimen…
We realize a phenomenological study to examine the sensitivity on the magnetic moment and electric dipole moment of the top quark through the processes $γγ\rightarrow t \bar{t}$, $e γ\rightarrow e γ^{*} γ\rightarrow e t \bar{t}$ and $e^{-} e^{+}\rightarrow e^{-} γ^{*} γ^{*} e^{+} \rightarrow e^{-} t \bar{t}e^{+}$ at the CLIC. We find that with a center-of-mass energy of the CLIC-1.4$\hspace{0.8mm}TeV$, integrated luminosity of ${\cal L}=1500\hspace{0.8mm}fb^{-1}$ and CLIC-3$\hspace{1mm}TeV$, integrated luminosity of ${\cal L}=2000\hspace{0.8mm}fb^{-1}$ with systematic uncertainties of $δ_{sys}…
We study the dipole moments, electric dipole moment, weak electric dipole moment, anomalous magnetic moment, anomalous weak magnetic moment, of fermions in the noncommutative extension of the SM. We observe that the noncommutative effects are among the possible candidates to explain the electric and weak electric dipole moment of fermions. Furthermore, the upper bounds for the parameters which carry space-time and space-space noncommutativity can be obtained by using the theoretical and experimental results of the fermion dipole moments.
We calculate the chromoelectric dipole moment (CEDM) of d- and s-quark in the supersymmetric SO(10) model. CEDM is more efficient than quark electric dipole moment (EDM), in inducing the neutron EDM. New, strict constraints on parameters of the supersymmetric SO(10) model follow in this way from the neutron dipole moment experiments. As strict bounds are derived from the upper limits on the dipole moment of odd isotope of mercury.
We introduce a probabilistic measure of naturalness (naturalness level) to fix naturalness bounds quantitatively. It is applied to the anomalous magnetic moments and the electric dipole moments due to new physics.
We study the the effects of non-universal extra dimensions on the electric dipole moments of fermions in the two Higgs doublet model. We observe that the t quark and b quark electric dipole moments are sensitive to the extra dimensions, however, in the case of charged lepton electric dipole moments, this sensitivity is relatively weak.
The complete set of Higgs-boson two-loop contributions to electric dipole moments of the electron and neutron is calculated in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. The electric dipole moments are induced by CP-violating trilinear couplings of the `CP-odd' and charged Higgs bosons to the scalar top and bottom quarks. Numerical estimates of the individual two-loop contributions to electric dipole moments are given.
We perform the calculation of the nucleon dipole magnetic moment in full detail using the Gordon decomposition of the free quark current. This calculation has become necessary because of frequent misuse of the Gordon decomposition by some authors in computing the nucleon dipole magnetic moment.
We study the contribution of antisymmetric tensor unparticle mediation to the charged lepton electric dipole moments and restrict the free parameters of the model by using the experimental upper bounds. We observe that the charged lepton electric dipole moments are strongly sensitive to the the scaling dimension d_U and the fundamental scales M_U and Λ_U. The experimental current limits of electric dipole moments are reached for the small values of the scaling dimension d_U.
We show that there is an anologous Aharonov-Casher effect on a neutral particle with electric dipole moment interacting with a magnetic filed produced by magnetic monopoles.
We present a complete three-loop calculation of the electric dipole moment of the $u$ and $d$ quarks in the Standard Model. For the $d$ quark, more relevant for the experimentally important neutron electric dipole moment, we find cancellations which lead to an order of magnitude suppression compared with previous estimates.
We predict the charged lepton electric dipole moments in the split fermion scenario in the framework of the two Higgs doublet model. We observe that the numerical value of the muon (tau) electric dipole moment is at the order of the magnitude of $10^{-22} (e-cm)$ ($10^{-20} (e-cm)$) and there is an enhancement in the case of two extra dimensions, especially for the tau lepton electric dipole moment.
We show that any new interaction resulting in a chirally-enhanced contribution to the muon magnetic moment necessarily modifies the decay rate of the Higgs boson to muon pairs or generates the muon electric dipole moment. These three observables are highly correlated, and near future measurements of $h\to μ^+μ^-$ will carve an ellipse in the plane of dipole moments for any such model. Together with the future measurements of the electric dipole moment many models able to explain the muon g-2 anomaly can be efficiently tested.
We describe modifications made to KORALZ version 4.03 in order to allow for anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments of the tau. We discuss the verification of the method at LEP 1 energies.
Assuming naturalness that the quantum corrections to the mass should not exceed the order of the observed mass, we derive and apply model-independent bounds on the anomalous magnetic moments and electric dipole moments of leptons and quarks due to new physics.
An appended sector of two octet-colored scalars, each an electroweak doublet, is an interesting extension of the simple two Higgs doublet model motivated by the minimal flavor violation. Their rich CP violating interaction gives rise to a sizable electron electric dipole moment, besides the quark electric dipole moment via the two-loop contribution of Barr-Zee mechanism.
General classical equation of spin motion is explicitly derived for a particle with magnetic and electric dipole moments in electromagnetic fields. Equation describing the spin motion relatively the momentum direction in storage rings is also obtained.
We study the charged lepton electric dipole moment which is induced by the scalar unparticle mediation and we predict the appropriate range for the free parameters appearing in the effective lagrangian which drives the unparticle-standard model lepton interactions. We observe that the charged lepton electric dipole moment is strongly sensitive to the scaling dimension d_u of the unparticle and the new couplings in the effective interaction. Furthermore, we see that the current experimental limits of charged lepton electric dipole moments can ensure an appropriate range for these free parameter…
In this paper, we study the production of a top-quark in association with a bottom-quark and a electron-neutrino at the Future Circular Collider Hadron Electron (FCC-he) to probe the sensitivity on its magnetic moment $(\hat a_V)$ and its electromagnetic dipole moment $(\hat a_A)$ through the process $e^-p \to e^-γp \to \bar t ν_e b p$. Assuming a large amount of collisions, as well as of data with cleaner environments, the FCC-he is an excellent option to study new physics, such as the $\hat a_V$ and $\hat a_A$. For our sensitivity study on $\hat a_V$ and $\hat a_A$, we consider center-of-mas…
Baryogenesis at the electroweak phase transition is discussed within the framework of the supersymmetric standard model. Implications of baryon asymmetry for the electric dipole moment of the neutron are also studied.
Magnetic dipole moments of the negative parity light and heavy tensor mesons are calculated within the light cone QCD sum rules method. The results are compared with the positive parity counterparts of the corresponding tensor mesons. The results of the analysis show that the magnetic dipole moments of the negative parity light mesons are smaller compared to those of the positive parity mesons. Contrary to the light meson case, magnetic dipole moments of the negative parity heavy mesons are larger than the ones for the positive parity mesons.
The dipole moments of the leptons and quarks are matrices in flavor space, which can potentially reveal as much about the flavor structure of the theory as do the mass matrices. The off-diagonal elements of the dipole matrices lead to flavor-changing decays such as μ-> e γ, while the imaginary parts of the diagonal elements give rise to electric dipole moments. We analyze the scaling of the leptonic dipole moments with the lepton masses in theories beyond the standard model. While in many models the dipole moments scale roughly as lepton mass, it is shown that simple models exist in which the …
We consider the Lorentz violated extension of the standard model. In this framework, there are terms that explicitly violate CP-symmetry. We examine the CPT-even $d_{μν}$-term to find the electric dipole moment of charged leptons. We show that the form factors besides the momentum transfer, depend on a new Lorentz-scalar, constructing by $d_{μν}$ and the four momenta of the lepton, as well. Such an energy dependence of the electric dipole form factor leads to an enhancement of the lepton electric dipole moment at high energy, even at the zero momentum transfer. We show that at $\frac{|d|p^2}{m…
We show that there is a general sort of models in which it is possible to have large magnetic dipole moments for neutrinos while keeping their masses arbitrarily small. Some examples of these models are considered.
The anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments in spin motion equation acquire pseudoscalar corrections if the $T(CP)$-noninvariance is admitted. It allows to explain the discrepancy between experimental and theoretical values of muon $(g-2)$ factor under assumption that the pseudoscalar correction is the dominant source of this discrepancy.
Using electroweak data and an effective Lagrangian approach we obtain stringent bounds on the tau anomalous magnetic moment, $-0.004 \leq a_τ\leq 0.006$, and on its electric dipole moment, $|d_τ| \leq 1.1 \times 10^{-17} e$ cm. This significantly improves our previous bounds. With the same method, we obtain limits on the dipole moments of other fermions.
We investigate the direct and indirect bounds on dipole operators involving the top quark. A careful analysis shows that the experimental upper limit on the neutron electric dipole moment strongly constrains the chromo-electric dipole of the top. We improve previous bounds by two orders of magnitude. This has significant implications for new physics models and it also means that CP violation in top pair production mediated by dipole operators will not be accessible at the LHC. The CP conserving chromo-magnetic dipole moments are constrained by recent measurements of the t\bar t spectrum by the…
We study the possibility that the magnetic dipole moment of light charged vector mesons could be measured from their effects in τ^- --> V^-ν_τγdecays. We conclude that the energy spectrum and angular distribution of photons emitted at small angles with respect to vector mesons is sensitive the effects of the magnetic dipole moment. Model-dependent contributions and photon radiation off other electromagnetic multipoles are small in this region. We also compute the effects of the magnetic dipole moment on the integrated rates and photon energy spectrum of these $τ$ lepton decays.
We analyze the pair-production of top quarks in polarized $e^+e^-$ scattering in the presence of electroweak dipole moments. For this, we consider two $CP$-odd observables which probe both the real and the imaginary parts of these moments. Polarizing the electron beam turns out to be a main asset.
We study the charged lepton electric dipole moments in the Randall Sundrum model where the leptons and the gauge fields are accessible to the extra dimension. We observe that the electron (muon; tau) electric dipole moment reaches to the value of the order of 10^{-26} e-cm (10^{-20} e-cm; 10^{-20} e-cm) with the inclusion of the lepton KK modes.
We analyse the process $τ^-\toν_τπ^-π^0$ allowing for anomalous weak charged current magnetic and electric dipole moment interactions and determine the effects on the differential and total decay rates. Using recent experimental data we determine the following values for the anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moment parameters, respectively: $κ= 0.16 \pm 0.08; and |\tildeκ| = 0.88^{+0.25}_{-0.35}.$
The connection between a regularization-independent symmetric momentum substraction (RI-$\tilde{\rm S}$MOM) and the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme for the quark chromo EDM operators is discussed. A method for evaluating the neutron EDM from quark chromoEDM is described. A preliminary study of the signal in the matrix element using clover quarks on a highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) ensemble is shown.
We recalculate the magnetic moment of neutrinos in a hot and dense medium. The magnetic dipole moment of neutrinos is modified at high temperature and chemical potential. We show that the magnetic dipole moment of electron neutrino does not get a significant contribution from thermal background to meet the cosmological bound. However, chemical potential contribution to the magnetic moment is non-ignorable even when chemical potential is an order of magnitude greater than the electron mass. It is demonstrated that this effect is more significant in the models with an extended Higgs sector throu…
The electric dipole moment is a very sensitive probe of CP violation beyond the standard model. Light nuclei are particularly interesting since the CP violation may be enhanced by nuclear many-body effects. In this proceeding, we present the current status of the theoretical evaluations of the electric dipole moment of light nuclei in the ab initio approach and in the cluster model. We add the preliminary result of the evaluation of the electric dipole moment of $^7$Li which is treated in a cluster model with a triton.
An analysis of electroweak corrections to the anomalous dipole moments of lepton from some special two-loop diagrams where a closed neutralino/chargino loop is inserted into relevant one-loop diagrams of the standard model is presented in the split supersymmetry scenarios. Considering the translational invariance of the inner loop momenta and the electromagnetic gauge invariance, we get all dimension 6 operators and their coefficients. After applying equations of motion to the external leptons, we obtain the anomalous dipole moments of lepton. The numerical results imply that there is paramete…
The weak dipole moments of leptons and quarks, \ie those related to their $Z$--coupling, are reviewed. Standard Model predictions and experimental results may result in a stringent test for both their pointlike structure and also for the Standard Model. Special attention is devoted to the anomalous weak--magnetic dipole moment and to the $CP$--violating weak--electric dipole moment.
We discuss upper limits on the electric dipole moments (EDM) of the tau-lepton, heavy quarks, and W-boson, which follow from the precision measurements of the electron and neutron EDM.
Using the CLEO data for $b\to sγ$, we constrain the chromomagnetic dipole moment of the top quark within the context of a decoupling effective Lagrangian approach. Our results are in agreement with the results obtained for the $e^+e^-$ and hadron colliders.
The magnetic dipole moments of the ${\cal D}_2$, and ${\cal D}_{S_2}$, ${\cal B}_2$, and ${\cal B}_{S_2}$ heavy tensor mesons are estimated in framework of the light cone QCD sum rules. It is observed that the magnetic dipole moments for the charged mesons are larger than that of its neutral counterpart. It is found that the $SU(3)$ flavor symmetry violation is about 10\% in both $b$ and $c$ sectors.
We present a model which determines the correct value of the magnetic dipole moment of the electron. By this, we find a physical meaning for the electron spin.
The experimental limit on the electron electric dipole moment constraints the pattern of supersymmetric grand-unified theories with right-handed neutrinos. We show that such contraints are already competing with the well known ones derived by the limit on proton lifetime.
We calculate the electric dipole moment of electron using the experimental result of muon electric dipole moment and upper limit of the BR(μ--> eγ) in the framework of the general two Higgs doublet model. Our prediction is 10^{-32} e-cm, which lies in the experimental current limits. Further, we obtain constraints for the Yukawa couplings \barξ^{D}_{N,τe} and \barξ^{D}_{N,τμ}. Finally we present an expression which connects the BR(τ\to μγ) and the electric dipole moment of τ-lepton and study the relation between these physical quantities.
We study the lepton electric dipole moments in the framework of the supersymmetric type II seesaw model where the exchange of heavy SU(2)_W triplets generates small neutrino masses. We show that the CP violating phase of the bilinear soft supersymmetry breaking term associated with the SU(2)_W triplets contributes to lepton electric dipole moments mainly through threshold corrections to the gaugino masses at the seesaw scale. As a consequence, the ratio of the electric dipole moments of the muon and the electron is the same as the ratio of their masses in a wide region of parameter space.
We calculate the two-loop level electric and chromo-electric dipole moments of the fermion involving fermion-sfermion inner loop, gaugino, and higgsino in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, and analyze the chromo-electric dipole moment with the top-stop inner loop. It is found that this contribution is comparable with, and even dominates in some situation over the Barr-Zee type diagram generated from the CP-violation of the top squark sector in TeV scale supersymmetry breaking.
The electromagnetic dipole moments of the tau lepton and the chromoelectromagnetic dipole moments of the top quark are estimated via flavor-changing neutral currents, mediated by a new neutral massive gauge boson. We predict them in the context of models beyond the Standard Model with extended current sectors, in which simple analytic expressions for the dipole moments are presented. For the different $Z^\prime$ gauge boson considered, the best prediction for the magnetic dipole moment of the tau lepton, $|a_τ|$, is of the order of $10^{-8}$, while the highest value for the electric one, $|d_τ…
It is shown that in the experiments for search of the EDM of an electron (atom, molecule) the T-odd magnetic moment induced by an electric field and the T-odd electric dipole moment induced by a magnetic field will be also measured. It is discussed how to distinguish these contributions.
High luminosity Super B/Flavor factories, near and on top of the $Υ$ resonances, allow for a detailed investigation of CP-violation in $τ$ physics. In particular, bounds on the $τ$ electric dipole moment can be obtained from CP-odd observables. We perform an independent analysis from other low and high energy data. For polarized electron beam a CP-odd asymmetry, associated to the normal polarization term, can be used to set stringent bounds on the $τ$ electric dipole moment.
We address the impact of sterile fermions on charged lepton electric dipole moments. We show that in order to have a non-vanishing contribution to electric dipole moments, the minimal extension necessitates the addition of at least two sterile fermion states. Sterile neutrinos can give significant contributions to the charged lepton electric dipole moments if the masses of the non-degenerate sterile states are both above the electroweak scale. In addition, the Majorana nature of neutrinos is also important. Furthermore, we apply the computations of the electric dipole moments for the most mini…
Using the effective Lagrangian method, we analyze the electroweak corrections to the anomalous dipole moments of lepton from some special two-loop topological diagrams which are composed of neutralino (chargino) - slepton (sneutrino) in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM). Considering the translational invariance of the inner loop momenta and the electromagnetic gauge invariance, we get all dimension 6 operators and derive their coefficients. After applying equations of motion to the external leptons, the anomalous dipole moments of lepton are obtained. The numeri…
In a model where CP is spontaneously broken, the aspon model, it is shown by extending previous arguments about B decay and the value of $Re(ε^{'}/ε)$ in the kaon system, that the neutron electric dipole moment $D_n$ is bounded from below by $D_n \geq 10^{-29}$e.-cm.
Unless squarks and sleptons are in the multi-TeV region or above, CP violating induced electric dipole moments of elementary particles can pose significant puzzles for supersymmetric (SUSY) models. We study the dipole-moment-inducing one-loop amplitudes as a function of the fundamental SUSY parameters and show that these puzzles are removed if there is a sufficiently large hierarchy between the gaugino masses and the scalar mass. We comment on the experimental status of the low gaugino mass scenario.
