T. Dupuy、E. Katz、J.
T. Dupuy, E. Katz, J. Rabinoff, D. Zureick-Brown introduced the module of total $p$-differentials for a ring over $Z/p^2Z$. We study the same construction for a ring over $Z_{(p)}$ and prove a regularity criterion. For a local ring, the tensor product with the residue field is constructed in a different way by O. Gabber, L. Ramero. In another article arXiv:2006.00448, we use the sheaf of FW-differentials to define the cotangent bundle and the micro-support of an etale sheaf.
For a proper (not necessarily smooth) variety over a finite field with q elements, Berthelot-Bloch-Esnault proved a trace formula which computes the number of rational points modulo q in terms of the Witt vector cohomology. We show the analogous formula for Witt vector cohomology of finite length. In addition, we prove a vanishing result for the compactly supported étale cohomology of a constant p-torsion sheaf on an affine Cohen-Macaulay variety in positive characteristic p.
Given a smooth formal scheme over the ring of integers of a mixed-characteristic perfectoid field, we study its $p$-adic vanishing cycles via de Rham--Witt and $q$-de Rham complexes.
We examine the relationship between the notion of Frobenius splitting and ordinarity for varieties. We show the following: a) The de Rham-Witt cohomology groups $H^i(X, W({\mathcal O}_X))$ of a smooth projective Frobenius split variety are finitely generated over $W(k)$. b) we provide counterexamples to a question of V. B. Mehta that Frobenius split varieties are ordinary or even Hodge-Witt. c) a Kummer $K3$ surface associated to an Abelian surface is $F$-split (ordinary) if and only if the associated Abelian surface is $F$-split (ordinary). d) for a $K3$-surface defined over a number field, t…
This PhD manuscript focuses on the study of a variation of the graded loop space construction for mixed graded derived schemes endowed with a Frobenius lift. We developed a theory of derived Frobenius lifts on a derived stack which are homotopy theoretic analogues of delta-structures for commutative rings. This graded loop space construction is the first step towards a definition of the de Rham-Witt complex for derived schemes. In this context, a loop is given by an action of the "crystalline circle", which is a formal analogue of the topological circle, endowed with its natural endomorphism g…
In differential algebra, a proper scheme $X$ defined over an algebraically closed field $K$ with a derivation $\partial$ on it descends to the field of constants $K^\partial$ if $X$ itself lifts the derivation $\partial$. This is a result by A. Buium. Now in the arithmetic case, the notion of a derivation is replaced by the notion of a $π$-derivation $δ$ or equivalently in the flat case, a lift of Frobenius $ϕ$. We will show an analogous result in the arithmetic case of equal characteristic. We show our results using the arithmetic analogue of Taylor expansion using Witt vectors.
In this paper we develop a novel approach to Witt vector rings and to the (relative) de Rham Witt complex. We do this in the generality of arbitrary commutative algebras and arbitrary truncation sets. In our construction of Witt vector rings the ring structure is obvious and there is no need for universal polynomials. Moreover a natural generalization of the construction easily leads to the relative de Rham Witt complex. Our approach is based on the use of free or at least torsion free presentations of a given commutative ring $R$ and it is an important fact that the resulting objects are inde…
This paper gives a new and direct construction of the multi-prime big de Rham-Witt complex which is defined for every commutative and unital ring; the original construction by the author and Madsen relied on the adjoint functor theorem and accordingly was very indirect. (The construction given here also corrects the 2-torsion which was not quite correct in the original version.) The new construction is based on the theory of modules and derivations over a lambda-ring which is developed first. The main result in this first part of the paper is that the universal derivation of a lambda-ring is g…
For a smooth projective scheme $X$ over a ring $R$ on which $p$ is nilpotent that meets some general assumptions we prove that the crystalline cohomology is equipped with the structure of a higher display which is a relative version of Fontaine's strongly divisible lattices. Frobenius-divisibilty is induced by the Nygaard filtration on the relative de Rham-Witt complex. For a nilpotent PD-thickening $S/R$ we also consider the associated relative display and can describe it explicitly by a relative version of the Nygaard filtration on the de Rham-Witt complex associated to a lifting of $X$ over…
We give a concrete description of the category of etale algebras over the ring of Witt vectors of a given finite length with entries in an arbitrary ring. We do this not only for the classical p-typical and big Witt vector functors but also for variants of these functors which are in a certain sense their analogues over arbitrary local and global fields. The basic theory of these generalized Witt vectors is developed from the point of view of commuting Frobenius lifts and their universal properties, which is a new approach even for the classical Witt vectors. The larger purpose of this paper i…
Since the results here have been superseded by another paper cowritten by the author, this article is available for reference purposes only. Fix a Dedekind domain $\mathcal{O}$ and a non-zero prime $\mathfrak{p}$ in it along with a uniformizer $π$. In the first part of the paper, we construct $m$-shifted $π$-typical Witt vectors $W_{mn}(B)$ for any $\mathcal{O}$ algebra $B$ of length $m+n+1$. They are a generalization of the usual $π$-typical Witt vectors. Along with it we construct a lift of Frobenius, called the lateral Frobenius $\tilde{F}: W_{mn}(B) \rightarrow W_{m(n-1)}(B)$ and show that…
Let $X$ be a smooth projective algebraic variety over $Z/p$, which has a flat lift to a scheme $X'$ over $Z/p^2$. If the absolute Frobenius morphism $F$ on $X$ lifts to a morphism on $X'$, then an old trick by Mazur shows that push-down of the de Rham complex under $F$ decomposes. We show that the quasi-isomorphism in question is split. This is then applied to toric varieties (where a glueing argument gives lifting of Frobenius to $Z/p^2$) and we derive natural characteristic $p$ proofs of Bott vanishing and degeneration of the Danilov spectral sequence. For flag varieties we obtain generaliza…
For a scheme $X$ defined over the length $2$ $p$-typical Witt vectors $W_2(k)$ of a characteristic $p$ field, we introduce total $p$-differentials which interpolate between Frobenius-twisted differentials and Buium's $p$-differentials. They form a sheaf over the reduction $X_0$, and behave as if they were the sheaf of differentials of $X$ over a deeper base below $W_2(k)$. This allows us to construct the analogues of Gauss-Manin connections and Kodaira-Spencer classes as in the Katz-Oda formalism. We make connections to Frobenius lifts, Borger-Weiland's biring formalism, and Deligne--Illusie c…
When written in terms of $\vartheta$-functions, the classical Frobenius-Stickelberger pseudo-addition formula takes a very simple form. Generalizations of this functional identity are studied, where the functions involved are derivatives (including derivatives with respect to the modular parameter) of the elliptic trilogarithm function introduced by Beilinson and Levin. A differential identity satisfied by this function is also derived. These generalized Frobenius-Stickelberger identities play a fundamental role in the development of elliptic solutions of the Witten-Dijkgraaf-Verlinde-Verlinde…
For every commutative ring $A$, one has a functorial commutative ring $W(A)$ of $p$-typical Witt vectors of $A$, an iterated extension of $A$ by itself. If $A$ is not commutative, it has been known since the pioneering work of L. Hesselholt that $W(A)$ is only an abelian group, not a ring, and it is an iterated extension of the Hochschild homology group $HH_0(A)$ by itself. It is natural to expect that this construction generalizes to higher degrees and arbitrary coefficients, so that one can define "Hochschild-Witt homology" $WHH_*(A,M)$ for any bimodule $M$ over an associative algebra $A$ ov…
We work with codimension one foliations in the projective space $\mathbb{P}^{n}$, given a differential one form $ω\in H^0(\mathbb{P}^n,Ω^1_{\mathbb{P}^n}(e))$, such differential form verifies the Frobenius integrability condition $ω\wedge dω=0$. In this work we show that the Camacho-Lins Neto regularity, applied for $ω$, is equivalent to the fact that every first order unfolding of $ω$ is trivial up to isomorphism. We do this by computing the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the ideal $I(ω)$ of first order unfoldings. With this result, we are also showing that the only regular projective foli…
We study the regularity and the algebraic properties of certain lattice ideals. We establish a map I --> I\~ between the family of graded lattice ideals in an N-graded polynomial ring over a field K and the family of graded lattice ideals in a polynomial ring with the standard grading. This map is shown to preserve the complete intersection property and the regularity of I but not the degree. We relate the Hilbert series and the generators of I and I\~. If dim(I)=1, we relate the degrees of I and I\~. It is shown that the regularity of certain lattice ideals is additive in a certain sense. The…
In the first part of this paper, we introduce the notion of "cyclic stratum" of a Frobenius manifold $M$. This is the set of points of the extended manifold $\mathbb C^*\times M$ at which the unit vector field is a cyclic vector for the isomonodromic system defined by the flatness condition of the extended deformed connection. The study of the geometry of the complement of the cyclic stratum is addressed. We show that at points of the cyclic stratum, the isomonodromic system attached to $M$ can be reduced to a scalar differential equation, called the "master differential equation" of $M$. In t…
