The latest data of the two long-baseline accelerator experiments NO$ν$A and T2K, interpreted in the standard 3-flavor scenario, display a discrepancy. A mismatch in the determination of the standard CP-phase $δ_{\mathrm {CP}}$ extracted by the two experiments is evident in the normal neutrino mass ordering. While NO$ν$A prefers values close to $δ_{\mathrm {CP}} \sim 0.8 π$, T2K identifies values of $δ_{\mathrm {CP}} \sim 1.4 π$. Such two estimates are in disagreement at more than 90$\%$ C.L. for 2 degrees of freedom. We show that such a tension can be resolved if one hypothesizes the existence of complex neutral-current non-standard interactions (NSI) of the flavor changing type involving the $e-μ$ or the $e-τ$ sectors with couplings $|\varepsilon_{eμ}| \sim |\varepsilon_{eτ}|\sim 0.2$. Remarkably, in the presence of such NSI, both experiments point towards the same common value of the standard CP-phase $δ_{\mathrm {CP}} \sim 3π/2$. Our analysis also highlights an intriguing preference for maximal CP-violation in the non-standard sector with the NSI CP-phases having best fit close to $ϕ_{eμ} \sim ϕ_{eτ}\sim 3π/2$, hence pointing towards imaginary NSI couplings.
There seems to be a non-negligible discrepancy between Daya Bay and T2K experimental results of a neutrino mixing angle, $θ_{13}$ . We show the discrepancy can be simply passed away even in the standard three neutrinos framework by taking the same value of $Δm^2_{32}$ with a normal neutrino mass hierarchy and Dirac CP phase $δ= -π/ 2$, which is favorable in T2K experiment. For numerical analyses of neutrino oscillation probabilities, there are five independent parameters, $Δm_{21}^2$, $Δm_{32}^2$, $θ_{12}$, $θ_{23}$, and $δ$. We reevaluate $θ_{13}$ by scatter plots within $1 σ$ range of five-d…
331 vector-like models with mirror fermions as a possible solution for the discrepancy in the b-quark asymmetries, and for the neutrino mass and mixing pattern
After a logically clear and simple solution of the solar neutrino problem on the basis of the hypothesis about the existence of a new interaction involving electron neutrinos and nucleons, the question arose about the origin of the distinction between the expected and observed results of the experiment with reactor antineutrino at KamLAND. In the present work, a significant attenuation of light during its propagation in the KamLAND liquid scintillator is noted, the effect of which on the observability of the expected inverse beta-decay events and on the reconstruction of their characteristics …
We show that the $R_K$ puzzle in LHCb data and the discrepancy in the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon can be simultaneously explained if a 10 MeV mass $Z^\prime$ boson couples to the muon but not the electron, and that clear evidence of the nonstandard matter interactions of neutrinos induced by this coupling may be found at DUNE.
Measurements of the solar neutrino mass-squared difference from KamLAND and solar neutrino data are somewhat discrepant, perhaps due to nonstandard neutrino interactions in matter. We show that the zenith angle distribution of solar neutrinos at Hyper-Kamiokande and the energy spectrum of reactor antineutrinos at JUNO can conclusively confirm the discrepancy and detect new neutrino interactions.
We present a new model of radiative neutrino mass generation wherein TeV scale leptoguark scalars induce tiny neutrino masses as two-loop radiative corrections. The neutrino oscillation parameter \sin^2θ_{13} is predicted to be close to the current experimental limit within the model. Rare lepton flavor violating processes mediated by leptoquarks have an interesting pattern: μ-> e γ$ may be suppressed, while μ-> 3 e and μ-e conversion in nuclei are within reach of the next generation experiments. New CP violating contributions to B_s- \bar{B}_s mixing via leptoquark box diagrams are in a range…
The latest measurements of the anomalous muon magnetic moment $a^{}_μ\equiv (g^{}_μ- 2)/2$ show a $4.2σ$ discrepancy between the theoretical prediction of the Standard Model and the experimental observations. In order to account for such a discrepancy, we consider a possible extension of the type-(I+II) seesaw model for neutrino mass generation with a gauged $L^{}_μ- L^{}_τ$ symmetry. By explicitly constructing an economical model with only one extra scalar singlet, we demonstrate that the gauge symmetry $U(1)^{}_{L^{}_μ- L^{}_τ}$ and its spontaneous breaking are crucially important not only f…
In the standard model of neutrino oscillations, the neutrino flavor states are mixtures of mass-eigenstates, and the phenomena are well described by the neutrino mixing matrix, i.e., the PMNS matrix. I review the recent progress on parametrization of the neutrino mixing matrix. Besides that I also discuss on the possibility to describe the neutrino oscillations by a non-standard model in which the neutrino mixing is caused by the Lorentz violation (LV) contribution in the effective field theory for LV. We assume that neutrinos are massless and that neutrino flavor states are mixing states of e…
The phenomenon of neutrino oscillations has been established as the leading mechanism behind neutrino flavor transitions, providing solid experimental evidence that neutrinos are massive and lepton flavors are mixed. Here we review sub-leading effects in neutrino flavor transitions known as non-standard neutrino interactions, which is currently the most explored description for effects beyond the standard paradigm of neutrino oscillations. In particular, we report on the phenomenology of non-standard neutrino interactions and their experimental and phenomenological bounds as well as future sen…
We investigate the half-life expectations for neutrinoless double beta decay by applying statistical distributions of neutrino mixing observables, neutrino mass constraints from cosmology and nuclear matrix elements. The analysis is performed in the standard scenario of active Majorana neutrino exchange, when light sterile neutrinos are added, and within TeV-scale left-right symmetric frameworks. The latter two cases correspond to a modified phenomenology of double beta decay for a normal and inverted mass ordering, and thus different discovery potential for future experiments.
We search for scalar and tensor non-standard interactions using (anti)-electron neutrino disappearance in oscillation data. We found a slight preference for non-zero CP violation, coming from both tensor and scalar interactions. The preference for CP violation is lead by Daya Bay low-energy data with a significance that reaches $\sim1.7σ$ in the global analysis (and $\sim2.1σ$ when considering only medium baseline reactors data) compared to the standard neutrino oscillation scenario.
This topical group focuses on searches for signals from physics Beyond the Standard Model (BSM), both from a theoretical and experimental perspective, including neutrino-related BSM and searches for BSM in other sectors using neutrino facilities.
Neutrino-electron scatterings are purely leptonic processes with robust Standard Model (SM) predictions. Their measurements can therefore provide constraints to physics beyond SM. The $\nuebar$-e data taken at the Kuo-Sheng Reactor Neutrino Laboratory were used to probe two scenarios: Non-Standard Neutrino Interactions (NSI) and Unparticle Physics. New constraints were placed to the NSI parameters ($\el$,$\er$) and ($\etl$,$\etr$) for the Non-Universal and Flavor-Changing channels, respectively, as well as to the coupling constants for scalar ($λ_0$) and vector ($λ_1$) unparticles to the neutr…
In most of the proposals for new physics beyond the standard model, neutrinos have new interactions and some of them have phenomenological consequences that, although at present they may seem purely academic, probably will have to be taken into account in the future neutrino experiments. Here we show that new interactions may imply the misidentification of the flavour of the neutrinos, and the experimental ability to distinguish neutrinos from antineutrinos.
Non-standard interactions (NSIs) in the propagation of neutrinos in matter can lead to significant deviations in neutrino oscillations expected within the standard 3-neutrino framework. These additional interactions would result in an anomalous flux of neutrinos observable at neutrino telescopes. The ANTARES detector and its next-generation successor, KM3NeT, located in the abyss of the Mediterranean Sea, have the potential to measure sub-dominant effects in neutrino oscillations, coming from non-standard neutrino interactions. In this contribution, a likelihood-based search for NSIs with 10 y…
Searching for non-standard neutrino interactions, as a means for discovering physics beyond the Standard Model, has one of the key goals of dedicated neutrino experiments, current and future. We demonstrate here that much of the parameter space accessible to such experiments is already ruled out by the RUN II data of the Large Hadron Collider experiment.
The non-perturbative approach based on Bogoliubov compensation principle is applied to the calculation of a contribution to the muon $g-2$. Using the previous results on the spontaneous generation of the effective anomalous three-boson interaction the contribution is calculated and shown to be in agreement with the well-known discrepancy. The calculated quantity contains no adjusting parameters but the experimental values for the muon and the W-boson masses.

A natural realization of CPT violation in neutrino oscillation can arise due to the coupling to a light scalar or vector dark matter (DM). The dark non-standard interaction (NSI) is associated with the $γ_0$ matrix in neutrino's effective propagator and hence corrects the neutrino Hamiltonian as dark matter potential, in the same way as the ordinary matter effect. The effect is, however, inversely proportional to the neutrino energy and hence appears as a correction to the neutrino mass squared. Due to a sign difference in the corrections for neutrino and anti-neutrino modes, the neutrino osci…
Non-Standard Interactions (NSI) of neutrinos may originate from models in which new particles interact with neutrinos. In scalar extensions of the SM, the typical approach to obtain NSI requires Fierz transformations and charged Higgses, which suffer from strong constraints from collider searches or charged lepton flavor violation processes. We propose here an alternative approach to generate NSI, namely via loop processes. We show that such loop-induced NSI from secret neutrino interactions can reach sizes of ${\cal O}(0.1\sim1)$ compared to standard Fermi interaction. This approach can also …
The production of a mu+mu- pair from the scattering of a muon-neutrino off the Coulomb field of a nucleus, known as neutrino trident production, is a sub-weak process that has been observed in only a couple of experiments. As such, we show that it constitutes an exquisitely sensitive probe in the search for new neutral currents among leptons, putting the strongest constraints on well-motivated and well-hidden extensions of the Standard Model gauge group, including the one coupled to the difference of the lepton number between the muon and tau flavor, L_mu-L_tau. The new gauge boson, Z', increa…
It is pointed out (not for the first time) that the minimal Standard Model, without additional gauge-singlet right-handed neutrinos or isotriplet Higgs fields, allows for nonvanishing neutrino masses and mixing. The required interaction term is nonrenormalizable and violates the global B-L symmetry. The ultimate explanation of this interaction term may or may not rely on grand unification.
Neutrino oscillations have become well-known phenomenon; the measurements of neutrino mixing angles and mass squared differences are continuously improving. Future oscillation experiments will eventually determine the remaining unknown neutrino parameters, namely, the mass ordering, normal or inverted, and the CP-violating phase. On the other hand, the absolute mass scale of neutrinos could be probed by cosmological observations, single beta decay as well as by neutrinoless double beta decay experiments. Furthermore, the last one may shed light on the nature of neutrinos, Dirac or Majorana, by…
We study the effects of non-standard interactions on the oscillation pattern of atmospheric neutrinos. We use neutrino oscillograms as our main tool to infer the role of non-standard interactions (NSI) parameters at the probability level in the energy range, $E \in [1,20]$ GeV and zenith angle range, $\cos θ\in [-1,0]$. We compute the event rates for atmospheric neutrino events in presence of NSI parameters in the energy range $E \in [1,10]$ GeV for two different detector configurations - a magnetized iron calorimeter and an unmagnetized liquid Argon time projection chamber which have differen…
We propose a two loop induced Dirac type neutrino model at TeV scale. Subsequently, three types of dark matter particles; fermion and two bosons, are naturally introduced. Here we discuss to analyze two possibilities; two component dark matter scenario (Dirac fermion and complex boson) and single dark matter one (another real boson), comparing to current experimental data such as Planck/WMAP and LUX. We briefly mention the possibility to explain the discrepancy of the effective number of neutrino species reported by several experiments.
The recently observed event excess in MiniBooNE anti-neutrino data is in agreement with the LSND evidence for electron anti-neutrino appearance. We propose an explanation of these data in terms of a (3+1) scheme with a sterile neutrino including non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI) at neutrino production and detection. The interference between oscillations and NSI provides a source for CP violation which we use to reconcile different results from neutrino and anti-neutrino data. Our best fit results imply NSI at the level of a few percent relative to the standard weak interaction, in agree…
We construct UV-complete models for non-standard neutrino interactions mediated by a sub-GeV gauge boson Z' coupled to baryon number $B$ or $B-L$. A flavor-dependent Z' coupling to neutrinos is induced by mixing a U(1)'-charged Dirac fermion with the active neutrinos, naturally suppressing flavor violation or non-universality of the charged leptons to the loop level. We show that these models can give rise to large flavor-conserving as well as flavor-violating non-standard neutral-current neutrino interactions potentially observable in current or future oscillation experiments such as DUNE wit…
In the Standard Model the total lepton number is conserved. Thus, neutrinoless double-beta decay, in which the total lepton number is violated by two units, is a probe of physics beyond the Standard Model. In this review we consider the basic mechanism of neutrinoless double-beta decay induced by light Majorana neutrino masses. After a brief summary of the present status of our knowledge of neutrino masses and mixing and an introduction to the seesaw mechanism for the generation of light Majorana neutrino masses, in this review we discuss the theory and phenomenology of neutrinoless double-bet…
Two boson exchange (TBE) correction to the cross section for the quasi-elastic charged current $νn$ and $\barν p$ scattering is evaluated. The TBE is given by $Wγ$ box diagrams. The calculations are performed for 1 GeV neutrinos. The averaged TBE correction is of the order of $2\div4 %$ (with respect to Born contribution) in the case of $ν_e$ and $\barν_e$ and $1\div2 %$ in the case of $ν_μ$ and $\barν_μ$. The impact of the TBE effect on the systematic discrepancy between the $ν_e$ and $ν_μ$ cross sections is discussed.
A new model of radiative neutrino masses generated via two-loop diagrams is proposed involving a charge 2/3 vector-like quark and a doublet of leptoquark scalars. This model predicts one of the neutrinos to be massless and admits both the normal and inverted neutrino mass hierarchies with correlated predictions for l_i \rightarrow l_j + γbranching ratios. New contributions to CP violation in B_s-\bar{B}_s mixing arise in the model through leptoquark box diagrams, which can explain the anomalous dimuon events reported by the DO collaboration. These leptoquarks, with masses below 500 GeV, also p…
Self-interaction among the neutrinos in the early Universe has been proposed as a solution to the Hubble tension, a discrepancy between the measured values of the Hubble constant from CMB and low-redshift data. However, flavor-universal neutrino self-interaction is highly constrained by Big Bang Nucleosynthesis and other laboratory experiments such as, tau and K-meson decay, double-neutrino beta decay etc. We study the cosmology when only one or two neutrino states are self-interacting. Such flavor-specific interactions are less constrained by the laboratory experiments. Lastly, we address the…
We revisit the neutrino magnetic moments (MMs) in the left-right model with non-manifest symmetry. After deriving an expression in terms of the Dirac and Majorana phases, we analyze the sensitivity of neutrino MMs to these $CP$-violating phases in two scenarios: 1) a maximal right mixing in which left- and right-handed neutrinos are mixed by the same matrix; and 2) a right-handed neutrino mixing whose off-diagonal entries are much smaller than the elements in the diagonal, but where the $CP$ phases remain general. Our results show that, even though certain values of the Majorana phases can eli…
We discuss the analytical expression of the oscillation probabilities at low energy long baseline experiments, such as T2HK and T2HKK in the presence of nonstandard interactions (NSIs). We show that these experiments are advantageous to explore the NSI parameters ($ε_D$, $ε_N$), which were suggested to be nonvanishing to account for the discrepancy between the solar neutrino and KamLAND data. We also show that, when the NSI parameters are small, parameter degeneracy in the CP phase $δ$, $ε_D$ and $ε_N$ can be resolved by combining data of the T2HK and T2HKK experiments.
Local Universe observations find a value of the Hubble constant $H_0$ that is larger than the value inferred from the Cosmic Microwave Background and other early Universe measurements, assuming known physics and the $Λ$CDM cosmological model. We show that additional radiation in active neutrinos produced just before Big Bang Nucleosynthesis by an unstable sterile neutrino with mass $m_s=$ O(10) MeV can alleviate this discrepancy. The necessary masses and couplings of the sterile neutrino, assuming it mixes primarily with $ν_τ$ and/or $ν_μ$ neutrinos, are within reach of Super-Kamiokande as wel…
In the current epoch of neutrino physics, many experiments are aiming for precision measurements of oscillation parameters. Thus, various new physics scenarios which alter the neutrino oscillation probabilities in matter deserve careful investigation. In this context, we study the effect of a vector leptoquark which induces non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI) that modify the oscillation probabilities of neutrinos in matter. We show that such interactions provide a relatively large value of NSI parameter $\varepsilon_{e μ}$. Considering this NSI parameter, we successfully explain the recen…
The search for new interactions of neutrinos beyond those of the Standard Model may help to elucidate the mechanism responsible for neutrino masses. Here we combine existing accelerator neutrino data with restrictions coming from a recent atmospheric neutrino data analysis in order to lift parameter degeneracies and improve limits on new interactions of muon neutrinos with quarks. In particular we re-consider the results of the NuTeV experiment in view of a new evaluation of its systematic uncertainties. We find that, although constraints for muon neutrinos are better than those applicable to …
If a Z' gauge boson from a gauged L_mu - L_tau symmetry is very light, it is associated with a long-range leptonic force. In this case the particles in the Sun create via mixing of the Z' with the Standard Model Z a flavor-dependent potential for muon neutrinos in terrestrial long-baseline experiments. The potential changes sign for anti-neutrinos and hence can lead to apparent differences in neutrino and anti-neutrino oscillations without introducing CP or CPT violation. This could for instance explain the recently found discrepancy in the MINOS experiment. We obtain the associated parameters…
We systematically study the allowed parameter space for the flavor composition of astrophysical neutrinos measured at Earth, including beyond the Standard Model theories at production, during propagation, and at detection. One motivation is to illustrate the discrimination power of the next-generation neutrino telescopes such as IceCube-Gen2. We identify several examples that lead to potential deviations from the standard neutrino mixing expectation such as significant sterile neutrino production at the source, effective operators modifying the neutrino propagation at high energies, dark matte…
In this talk, we will discuss phenomenology of new physics associated with neutrinos, in particular, non-standard neutrino interactions, non-unitarity of the lepton mixing matrix, and secret neutrino interactions mediated by a light field.
