Many new physics scenarios contain ultralight scalars, states which are either exactly massless or much lighter than any other massive particle in the model. Axions and majorons constitute well-motivated examples of this type of particle. In this work, we explore the phenomenology of these states in low-energy leptonic observables. After adopting a model independent approach that includes both scalar and pseudoscalar interactions, we briefly discuss the current limits on the diagonal couplings to charged leptons and consider processes in which the ultralight scalar $ϕ$ is directly produced, such as $μ\to e \, ϕ$, or acts as a mediator, as in $τ\to μμμ$. Contributions to the charged leptons magnetic and electric moments are studied as well.

The mass of ultralight axions is determined in order to get the explicit U(1)$_A$ symmetry breaking scale $ Λ$ at a Peccei-Quinn scale of the magnitude of the Planck mass. It is assumed that the dominant contribution to the mass of a galaxy with low surface brightness is only determined by one axionic species in the sense of fuzzy dark matter (lumps). For rotation curve fits to galactic rotation curves, therefore the Soliton-Navarro-Frenk-White model is used, which assumes a condensate core plus correlated axions in the halo according to the solution of the Poisson-Schrödinger system. In addit…
We study vertex corrections to the leptonic electroweak observables in the general MSSM at tan(beta) < 35. In particular, we address the question of whether supersymmetry can be responsible for the observed 2 sigma deviation from the Standard Model prediction in the invisible width of the Z. We find that the presence of a light (around 100 GeV) chargino and sleptons hinted by the muon g-2 measurements makes the agreement with experiment slightly better and improves the electroweak fit.
In extensions of the Standard Model by Majorana fermions, the presence of additional CP violating phases has been shown to play a crucial role in lepton number violating processes. In this work we show that (Dirac and Majorana) CP violating phases can also lead to important effects in charged lepton flavour violating (cLFV) transitions and decays, in some cases with a significant impact for the predicted rates of cLFV observables. We conduct a thorough exploration of these effects in several cLFV observables, and discuss the implications for future observation. We emphasise how the presence of…
In models where the Standard Model is extended by Majorana fermions, interference effects due to the presence of CP violating phases have been shown to play a crucial role in lepton number violating processes. However, important effects can also arise in lepton number conserving, but charged lepton flavour violating (cLFV) transitions and decays. Here we show that the presence of CP violating (Dirac and Majorana) phases can have a striking impact for the predicted rates of cLFV observables. We explore the interference effects in several cLFV observables, carrying for the first time a thorough …
The optimal observables with the best ratio of signal to statistical uncertainty are proposed for a bunch of popular models of the $Z'$ boson. They are the cross sections integrated over the phase space of the final particles with proper weight functions. It is shown that the proposed observables are completely equivalent to the $χ^2$ fit of the differential cross section, so they could be used as an alternative of aggregating events into bins with further minimization of the $χ^2$ function, especially in preliminary analysis of experimental data. Application of the observables to the maximum …
The model--independent QED radiative corrections to polarization observables in elastic scattering of unpolarized and longitudinally--polarized electron beam by the deuteron target have been calculated in leptonic variables. The experimental setup when the deuteron target is arbitrarily polarized is considered and the procedure for applying derived results to the vector or tensor polarization of the recoil deuteron is discussed. The basis of the calculations consists of the account for all essential Feynman diagrams which results in the form of the Drell-Yan representation for the cross-sectio…
Low-energy results from measurements of leptonic dipole moments are used to derive constraints on the CP-violating phases of the dimensionful parameters of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM). We use these (known) bounds to investigate the impact of these phases on CP-even cross sections at high-energy e^+e^- and e^-e^- colliders. To that end we define two measures of the significance with which the existence of non--vanishing phases could be deduced from the measurements of these cross sections. We find that highly significant evidence for deviations from the CP-…
We present allowed regions in the space of observables of certain non-leptonic B-meson decays that characterize these modes within the Standard Model. A future measurement of observables lying significantly outside of these regions would indicate the presence of new physics. Making use of SU(3) arguments, we give the range for $B\toπK$ decays, and for the system of $B_d\toπ^+π^-$, $B_s\to K^+K^-$ modes.
We analyse the recent hints of Lepton Flavor Universality violations in semi-leptonic $B$ decays within a general EFT based on a $U(2)^n$ flavor symmetry acting on the light generations of SM fermions. We analyse in particular the consistency of these anomalies with the tight constraints on various low-energy observables in $B$ and $τ$ physics. We show that, with a moderate fine-tuning, a consistent picture for all low-energy observables can be obtained under the additional dynamical assumption that the NP sector is coupled preferentially to third generation SM fermions. We discuss how this dy…
We propose two different and complementary observables for singling out possible signals of physics beyond the standard model in the semi-leptonic decays $Λ_b \to Λ_c \ell{\bar ν}_{\ell}$, both with the $τ$ lepton and with a light lepton. The two observables are the partial decay width and a T-odd asymmetry, whose respective sensitivities to scalar and/or pseudo-scalar coupling are calculated as functions of the parameters characterizing new physics. Two different form factors are used. Three particular cases are discussed and analyzed in detail.
We study leptonic flavor and CP violating observables in supersymmetric (SUSY) models with heavy sfermions, which is motivated by the recent results of the LHC experiments (i.e., the discovery of the Higgs-like boson with the mass of about 126 GeV and the negative searches for the superparticles). Even if the sfermion masses are of O(10-100 TeV), signals may be within the reach of future leptonic flavor- and CP-violation experiments assuming that the off-diagonal elements of the sfermion mass matrices are unsuppressed compared to the diagonal ones. We also consider the SUSY contribution to the…
We address the impact of a modified $W \ell ν$ coupling on a wide range of observables, such as $τ$ leptonic and mesonic decays, leptonic decays of pseudoscalar mesons, as well as semileptonic meson decays. In particular, we concentrate on deviations from lepton flavour universality, focusing on the ratios $R_{P} = Γ(P \to \ell ν) / Γ(P \to \ell' ν)$, with $P=K, π, D, D_s$, $R(D)={Γ(B^+ \to D τ^+ ν)}/{Γ(B^+ \to D\ell^+ ν)}$, $R τ={Γ(τ\to μνν)}/{Γ(τ\to eνν)}$, $R^{\ell τ}_P=Γ(τ\to Pν)/Γ(P\to \ell ν)$, and $\text{BR}(B \to τν)$. We further consider leptonic gauge boson decays, such as $W\to \ell…
Precision probes of new physics are often interpreted through their indirect sensitivity to short-distance scales. In this proceedings contribution, we focus on the question of which precision observables, at current sensitivity levels, allow for an interpretation via either short-distance new physics or consistent models of long-distance new physics, weakly coupled to the Standard Model. The electroweak scale is chosen to set the dividing line between these scenarios. In particular, we find that inverse see-saw models of neutrino mass allow for light new physics interpretations of most precis…
We propose a class of observables constructed from lepton energy distribution, which are independent of the velocity of the parent particle if it is scalar or unpolarized. These observables may be used to measure properties of various particles in the LHC experiments. We demonstrate their usage in a determination of the Higgs boson mass.
If the observation by OPERA of apparently superluminal neutrinos is correct, the Lagrangian for second-generation leptons must break Lorentz invariance. We calculate the effects of an energy-independent change in the neutrino speed on another observable, the charged pion decay rate. The rate decreases by an factor [1 - 3/(1 - (m_mu)^2 / (m_pi) ^ 2) (< v_(nu) > - 1)], where < v_(nu) > is the (directionally averaged) neutrino speed in the pion's rest frame. This provides a completely independent experimental observable that is sensitive to the same forms of Lorentz violation as a neutrino time o…
Cold, ultralight ($\ll$ eV) bosonic dark matter with a misalignment abundance can induce temporal variation in the masses and couplings of Standard Model particles. We find that fast variations in neutrino oscillation parameters can lead to significantly distorted neutrino oscillations (DiNOs) and yield striking signatures at long baseline experiments. We study several representative observables to demonstrate this effect and find that current and future experiments including DUNE and JUNO are sensitive to a wide range of viable scalar parameters over many decades in mass reach.
In this work we extend the SM by introducing only exotic scalars and leptons and show that within the reasonable error limits, both the observed anomalies in $R(D^{(*)})$ and $R_{K^{(*)}}$ can be explained along with satisfying all the constrains from nuetral meson oscillations, precision Z-pole data etc. In a trivial extension of our model with addition of three heavy right handed neutrinos, explaining the small masses of neutrinos and generation of Baryon excess via leptogenesis is possible as well. The disagreement between SM prediction and experimental data in muon (g-2) measurements can b…
We derive constraints on the mixing of heavy right-handed neutrinos with the SM fields in the most general Seesaw scenario where the heavy neutrinos are integrated out. Among the electroweak and flavour observables included in the global fit, $μ\rightarrow eγ$ sets the present strongest bound on the additional neutrino mixing, while in the future it will be dominated by $μ-e$ conversion in nuclei. Increasing its sensitivity in future experiments could probe Non-Unitarity in Lepton Flavour Violating processes. Nevertheless, in order to determine completely model-independent constraints, we prov…
We study (semi)leptonic rare charm decays and its opportunities in searches for physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM). In particular, we analyse the impact of potential BSM physics in $c\to ull'$ transitions, notably branching ratios, angular observables, asymmetries and Lepton Flavour Violating (LFV) decays. Testable effects are worked out model-independently and within Leptoquark models supplemented with flavour patterns to link $K$/$B$ decays.
In this talk I will present the work that we did in \cite{1}\cite{2}\cite{3}\cite{4}\cite{5} related to observed lepton universality violation by Babar, Belle and LHCb in R($D^{(*)}$) and $R_{K^{(*)}}$ as well as the reported deviation in muon (g-2) by BNL. We had shown that all these anomalies as well as Baryon-genesis, Dark-matter and small neutrino masses could be explained by introducing new exotic scalars, leptons and scalar-leptoquarks only. It turn out that some of these models have very peculiar signatures such as prediction of existence of heavy stable charged particle \cite{1}\cite{2…
The running of the effective electromagnetic coupling is for many electroweak observables the dominant correction. It plays an important role for deriving constraints on the Standard Model in the context of electroweak precision measurements. We compute the four-loop QED corrections to the running of the effective electromagnetic coupling and perform a numerical evaluation of the different gauge invariant subsets.
We present a procedure for the determination of the mass of the top quark at the LHC based on leptonic observables in dilepton $t\bar{t}$ events. Our approach utilises the shapes of kinematic distributions through their few lowest Mellin moments; it is notable for its minimal sensitivity to the modelling of long-distance effects, for not requiring the reconstruction of top quarks, and for having a competitive precision, with theory errors on the extracted top mass of the order of 0.8 GeV. A novel aspect of our work is the study of theoretical biases that might influence in a dramatic way the d…
A correlated analysis of observables arising from loop induced effects from a vectorlike generation is given. The observables include flavor changing radiative decays $μ\to e γ, τ\to μγ, τ\to e γ$, electric dipole moments of the charged leptons $e,μ, τ$, and corrections to magnetic dipole moments of $g_μ-2$ and $g_e-2$. In this work we give a full analysis of the corrections to these observables by taking into account both the supersymmetry loops as well as the exchange of a vectorlike leptonic generation. Thus the fermion mass matrix involves a $5\times 5$ mixing matrix while the scalar secto…
We analyze the impact of the forthcoming CP-violating observables in the $B_s\to K^+ K^-$ system, combined with the precise measurement of $\sin2β$ , in the extraction of the CKM matrix. Computing the penguin parameters $(r, θ)$ within QCD factorization yields a precise determination of $(\barρ, \barη)$, reflected by a weak dependence on $θ$, which is shown to be a second order effect. Using the SU(3)-flavour symmetry argument and the current $B$-factories data provided by the $B_d \to π^+ π^-$ modes, we complement the $B_s \to K^+ K^-$ CP-violating observables in a variety of ways, in particu…
Several topics on CP violation in the lepton sector are reviewed. A few theoretical aspects concerning neutrino masses, leptonic mixing, and CP violation will be covered, with special emphasis on seesaw models. A discussion is provided on observable effects which are manifest in the presence of CP violation, particularly, in neutrino oscillations and neutrinoless double beta decay processes, and their possible implications in collider experiments such as the LHC. The role that leptonic CP violation may have played in the generation of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe through the mechanism …
We study a subset of electroweak-precision observables consisting of $M_W$, $\sin^2θ_{\tiny eff}^τ$, $BR(Z\toτ^+τ^-)$ and $Γ(Z\toτ^+τ^-)/Γ(Z\to e^+e^-)-1$ (characterizing leptonic $Z$-decays) in the context of the NMSSM. After a brief review of common MSSM-NMSSM effects, e.g. for $Γ(Z\toτ^+τ^-)/Γ(Z\to e^+e^-)-1$, which has been little discussed, even in the MSSM), specific NMSSM scenarios are studied, with the result that the NMSSM, considering existing constraints on its spectrum, is essentially consistent with available measurements, given the current accuracy.
Ultralight bosons can affect the dynamics of spinning black holes (BHs) via superradiant instability, which can lead to a time evolution of the supermassive BH shadow. We study prospects for witnessing the superradiance-induced BH shadow evolution, considering ultralight vector and tensor fields. We introduce two observables sensitive to the shadow time-evolution: the shadow drift, and the variation in the azimuthal angle lapse associated to the photon ring autocorrelation. The two observables are shown to be highly complementary, depending on the observer's inclination angle. Focusing on the …
We show that a TeV scale inverse seesaw model for neutrino masses can be realized within the framework of a supersymmetric SO(10) model consistent with gauge coupling unification and observed neutrino masses and mixing. We present our expectations for non-unitarity effects in the leptonic mixing matrix some of which are observable at future neutrino factories as well as the next generation searches for lepton flavor violating processes such as μ--> e + γ. The model has TeV scale W_R and Z' bosons which are accessible at the Large Hadron Collider.
We study some possible astrophysical implications of a very weakly coupled ultralight dilaton-type scalar field. Such a field may develop an (approximately stable) network of domain walls. The domain wall thickness is assumed to be comparable with the thickness of the luminous part of the spiral galaxies. The walls provide trapping for galactic matter. This is used to motivate the very existence of the spiral galaxies. A zero mode existing on the domain wall is a massless scalar particle confined to 1+2 dimensions. At distances much larger than the galaxy/wall thickness, the zero-mode exchange…
We calculate a comprehensive set of spin correlations and differential distributions in top-quark pair production and decay to dilepton final states. This is the first time such a complete study is performed at next-to-next-to leading order in QCD. Both inclusive and fiducial distributions are presented and analyzed. Good agreement between NNLO QCD predictions and data is found. We demonstrate that it is possible to perform high-precision comparisons of fixed-order calculations with fiducial-level data. Subtleties of the top quark definition are raised and clarified. Some of those are found to…
Heavy quark decays provide a very advantageous investigation to test the Standard Model (SM). Recently, promising experiments with \textit{b} quark, as well as the analysis of the huge data sets produced at the B factories, have led to an increasing study and sensitive measurements of relative \textit{b} quark decays. In this thesis, I calculate various observables in the semi-leptonic decay process $Λ_{b}\to Λ_{c}τ\barν_τ$ both in the SM and in the presence of New Physics (NP) operators with different Lorentz structures. The results are relevant for the coming measurement of this semi-leptoni…
We discuss the possibilities of extracting the constraints on New Physics by using the current data on the leptonic and semileptonic decays of pseudoscalar mesons. In doing so we use a general low energy Lagrangian that besides the vector and axial operators also includes the (pseudo-)scalar and tensor ones. In obtaining constraints on New Physics couplings we combine the experimental information concerning several decay modes with the accurate lattice QCD results for the hadronic matrix elements. We propose to study new observables that can be extracted from the angular analysis of the semile…
Latest measurement of the ratio of branching ratios $R_D = \mathcal B(B \to D\,τ\,ν)/\mathcal B(B \to D\,l\,ν)$ and $R_{D^{\ast}} = \mathcal B(B \to D^{\ast}\,τ\,ν)/\mathcal B(B \to D^{\ast}\,l\,ν)$, where $l$ is either an electron or muon, differs from the standard model expectation by $1.9σ$ and $3.3σ$, respectively. Similar tension has been observed in purely leptonic $B \to τν$ decays as well. In this context, we consider the most general effective Lagrangian in the presence of new physics and perform a model independent analysis to explore various new physics couplings. Motivated by the r…
The data on high-precision flavour observables reveal certain puzzles when compared to Standard Model expectations based on a global fit of the CKM unitarity triangle and general theoretical estimates. The discussion of these tensions in the channels B to J/psi K, B to phi K, and B to pi K, and the deduced constraints for New Physics operators of the class (bs)(qq) form the content of this talk.

The type X (lepton-specific) two-Higgs-doublet model at large $\tanβ$ becomes leptophilic and thus allows a light pseudoscalar $A$ accommodating the observed muon $g-2$ deviation without conflicting with various hadronic constraints. On the other hand, it is strongly constrained by leptonic precision observables such as lepton universality test in the neutral and charged currents. Treating all the lepton universality data in a consistent way, we show how the current data constrain the parameter space of $m_A$ and $\tanβ$ for given degenerate masses of heavy Higgs bosons $H$ and $H^\pm$. While …
We examine the effects of photon-axion mixing on the CMB. We show that if there are very underdense regions between us and the last scattering surface which contain coherent magnetic fields (whose strength can be orders of magnitude weaker than the current bounds), then photon-axion mixing can induce observable deviations in the CMB spectrum. Specifically, we show that the mixing can give rise to non-thermal spots on the CMB sky. As an example we consider the well known CMB cold spot, which according to the Planck data has a weak distortion from a black body spectrum, that can be fit by our mo…
Some of the cleanest signals for new physics in the early runs of the LHC will involve strongly-produced particles which give rise to multiple leptons by undergoing cascade decays through weakly-interacting states to stable particles. Some of the most spectacular final states will involve three or more leptons, multiple jets and generally missing energy-momentum as well. A triad of the most interesting models of new physics which induce such signals is known to consist of (i) supersymmetry with R-parity conservation, (ii) a universal extra dimension with conservation of KK-parity and (iii) lit…
These proceedings introduce the main techniques and ideas for a systematic effective field theory analysis of CP violation in the charged lepton sector. This study is required because the Standard Model of particle physics predicts a very high degree of CP violation suppression in the lepton sector, and this implies that possible new physics effects can be parameterised in terms of new interactions among the Standard Model fields, in the framework of the so-called Standard Model Effective Field Theory. In analogy with previous investigations of charged lepton flavour violating observables, thi…
Most models of weak scale supersymmetry (SUSY) predict observable rates for production of SUSY matter at the CERN LHC. The SUSY collider events are expected to be rich in jets, isolated (and non-isolated) leptons and missing E_T. After first discussing the merits of mixed axion/axino vs. neutralino cold dark matter in SUSY models, I then survey prospects for detecting SUSY matter at the LHC via leptonic signatures. In the paradigm mSUGRA model, cascade decays of gluinos and squarks should yield high rates for multi-jet plus multi-lepton events, allowing values of m_{\tg}\sim 3 (1.8) TeV to be …

We systematically analyze the correlations between the various leptonic and hadronic flavor violating processes arising in SUSY Grand Unified Theories. Using the GUT-symmetric relations between the soft SUSY breaking parameters, we assess the impact of hadronic and leptonic flavor observables on the SUSY sources of flavor violation.
Effects of the 1-3 leptonic mixing on the solar neutrino observables are studied and the signatures of non-zero $θ_{13}$ are identified. For this we have re-derived the formula for $3ν$-survival probability including all relevant corrections and constructed the iso-contours of observables in the $\sin^2 θ_{12} - \sin^2 θ_{13}$ plane. Analysis of the solar neutrino data gives $\sin^2θ_{13} = 0.007^{+ 0.080}_{-0.007}$ (90% C.L.) for $Δm^2 = 8 \cdot 10^{-5}$ eV$^2$. The combination of the ratio CC/NC at SNO and gallium production rate selects $\sin^2θ_{13} = 0.017 \pm 0.026$ ($1σ$). The global fi…
The most recent measurements of the observables $R_{D^{(*)}}$ are in tension with the Standard Model offering hints of New Physics in $b\rightarrow c \ell \barν_{\ell}$ transitions. Motivated by these results, in this work we present an analysis on their $b\rightarrow u \ell \barν_{\ell}$ counterparts (for $\ell=e, ~μ, ~τ$). Our study has three main objectives. Firstly, using ratios of branching fractions, we assess the effects of beyond the Standard Model scalar and pseudoscalar particles in leptonic and semileptonic $B$ decays ($B^-\rightarrow \ell^- \barν_{\ell}$, $\bar{B}\rightarrow π\ell …

Several recent studies performed on constraints of a fourth generation of quarks and leptons suffer from the ad-hoc assumption that 3 x 3 unitarity holds for the first three generations in the neutrino sector. Only under this assumption one is able to determine the Fermi constant G_F from the muon lifetime measurement with the claimed precision of G_F = 1.16637 (1) x 10^-5 GeV^-2. We study how well G_F can be extracted within the framework of four generations from leptonic and radiative mu and tau decays, as well as from K_l3 decays and leptonic decays of charged pions, and we discuss the role…
Current experimental information on the charm meson decay observables in which the $c\to s\ellν_\ell$ transitions occur is well compatible with the Standard Model predictions. Recent precise lattice calculations of the $D_s$ meson decay constant and form factors in $D\to K\ellν$ decays offer a possibility to search for the small deviations from the Standard Model predictions in the next generation of the high intensity flavour experiments. We revisit constraints from these processes on the new physics contributions in the effective theory approach. We investigate new physics effects which migh…
