In this paper, the physical layer security (PLS) for a novel reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system in a multi-user scenario is investigated, where we consider the worst case that the eavesdropper also utilizes the advantage of the RISs. More specifically, we derive analytical results for the secrecy outage probability (SOP). From the numerical results, we observe that the use of RISs can improve the secrecy performance compared to traditional NOMA systems. However, for the worst case that the received signals at the eavesdropper comes from the RISs and source, increasing the number of intelligent elements on the RIS has a negative impact on the secrecy performance. At high SNRs, the system's SOP tends to a constant. Finally, the secrecy performance can be improved through the group selection.
Relay selection is considered to enhance the secrecy of a dual-hop regenerative multi-relay system with an eavesdropper. Without assuming perfect decoding at the relays, the secrecy outage probability of a single relay system is obtained first. Secrecy outage of optimal, traditional and suboptimal relay selection schemes is then evaluated. To reduce the power consumption, partial relay selection schemes based only on either of the source-relay or relay-destination instantaneous channel state information (ICSI) are introduced. Its secrecy outage is evaluated and compared with the other schemes.…

Cell outage compensation enables a network to react to a catastrophic cell failure quickly and serve users in the outage zone uninterruptedly. Utilizing the promising benefits of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) for improving the throughput of cell edge users, we propose a newly NOMA-based cell outage compensation scheme. In this scheme, the compensation is formulated as a mixed integer non-linear program (MINLP) where outage zone users are associated to neighboring cells and their power are allocated with the objective of maximizing spectral efficiency, subject to maintaining the quality…
In this letter, we analyze the secrecy outage probability (SOP) over fluctuating two-ray fading channels but with a different definition from the one adopted in [5]. Following the new defined SOP, we derive an analytical closed-form expression for our proposed SOP, as well as an asymptotic formula valid in the high signal-to-noise ratio region of the source to destination link. In the numerical results section, we perform some Monte-Carlo simulations to validate the accuracy of our derived expressions, and also present the probability gap between our proposed SOP and the SOP in [5].

By approximating the received powers as Gamma random variables, tractable expressions for the outage probability under NOMA interference cancellation are obtained. We evaluate the outage over different splits of the elements and varying pathloss differences betwee…
A simple approximation for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) over generalized-K fading channels is developed. This approximation becomes tighter as the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the wiretap channel decreases. Based on this simple expression, we also analyze the asymptotic SOP in the high SNR region of the main channel. Besides simplifying the SOP expression significantly, this asymptotic SOP expression reveals the secrecy diversity order in a general case. Numerical results demonstrate the high accuracy of our proposed approximation results.

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is considered to be one of the best candidates for future networks due to its ability to serve multiple users using the same resource block. Although early studies have focused on transmission reliability and energy efficiency, recent works are considering cooperation among the nodes. The cooperative NOMA techniques allow the user with a better channel (near user) to act as a relay between the source and the user experiencing poor channel (far user). This paper considers the link security aspect of energy harvesting cooperative NOMA users. In particular, t…
In this paper, we consider an active eavesdropping scenario in a cooperative system consisting of a source, a destination, and an active eavesdropper with multiple decode-and-forward relays. Considering an existing assumption in which an eavesdropper is also a part of network, a proactive relay selection by the eavesdropper is proposed. The best relay which maximizes the eavesdropping rate is selected by the eavesdropper. A relay selection scheme is also proposed to improve the secrecy of the system by minimizing the eavesdropping rate. Performances of these schemes are compared with two passi…

In this paper, relay selection is considered to enhance security of a cooperative system with multiple threshold-selection decode-and-forward (DF) relays. Threshold-selection DF relays are the relays in which a predefined signal-to-noise ratio is set for the condition of successful decoding of the source message. We focus on the practical and general scenario where the channels suffer from independent non-identical Rayleigh fading and where the direct links between the source and destination and source and eavesdropper are available. Based on channel state information knowledge, three relay se…

We consider a free space optical (FSO) backhauling system which consists of two base stations (BSs) and one central unit (CU). We propose to employ non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) for FSO backhauling where both BSs transmit at the same time and in the same frequency band to the same photodetector at the CU. We develop a dynamic NOMA scheme which determines the optimal decoding order as a function of the channel state information at the CU and the quality of service requirements of the BSs, such that the outage probabilities of both BSs are jointly minimized. Moreover, we analyze the perf…
In this letter, a new power allocation scheme is proposed to improve the reliability of cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (CO-NOMA). The strong user is allocated the maximum power, whereas the weak user is allocated the minimum power. This power allocation alters the decoding sequence along with the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR), at the users. The weak user benefits from receiving multiple copies of the signal whereas the strong user benefits from the higher power allocation. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a lower mutual outage probabil…

This allows for tractable expressions of the outage under interference cancellation (IC), while being flexible in modeling various propagation environments. Our analysis shows that under certain conditions, the presence of an IRS m…
