We investigate the reliability and security of the ambient backscatter (AmBC) non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems, where the source aims to communication with two NOMA users in the presence of an eavesdropper. We consider a more practical case that nodes and backscatter device (BD) suffer from in-phase and quadrature-phase imbalance (IQI). More specifically, exact analytical expressions for the outage probability (OP) and the intercept probability (IP) are derived in closedform. Moreover, the asymptotic behaviors and corresponding diversity orders for the OP are discussed. Numerical results show that: 1) Although IQI reduces the reliability, it can enhance the security. 2) Compared with the traditional orthogonal multiple access (OMA) system, the AmBC-NOMA system can obtain better reliability when the signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio is low; 3) There are error floors for the OP because of the reflection coefficient \b{eta} .

In this paper, a backscatter cooperation (BC) scheme is proposed for non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) downlink transmission. The key idea is to enable one user to split and then backscatter part of its received signals to improve the reception at another user. To evaluate the performance of the proposed BC-NOMA scheme, three benchmark schemes are introduced. They are the non-cooperation (NC)-NOMA scheme, the conventional relaying (CR)-NOMA scheme, and the incremental relaying (IR)-NOMA scheme. For all these schemes, the analytical expressions of the minimum total power to avoid informatio…

This paper considers the secrecy outage performance of a multiple-relay assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) network over Nakagami-$m$ fading channels. Two slots are utilized to transmit signals from the base station to destination. At the first slot, the base station broadcasts the superposition signal of the two users to all decode-and-forward relays by message mapping strategy. Then the selected relay transmits superposition signal to the two users via power-domain NOMA technology. Three relay selection (RS) schemes, i.e., optimal single relay selection (OSRS) scheme, two-step sin…

In particular, two types of partial channel state information (CSI), namely the imperfect CSI and CSI based on second order statistics (SOS), are investigated in the analytical framework. For both two cases, the closed-form approximations for the multica…

Sharing resource blocks in NOMA systems provides more opportunity to the internal users to overhear the messages of the other users. Therefore, some sort of secrecy against the internal users in addition to the external eavesdroppers must be provided. In this paper, we investigate the secrecy performance of a two-user NOMA system in existence of the external and internal passive eavesdroppers, where the far user acts as an internal eavesdropper and tries to overhear the message of the near user. Our system consists of a single antenna base station, two legitimate users and an external passive …

With non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA), we tackle the maximization of the secrecy rate for the strong user subject to a maximum allowable secrecy outage probability, while guaranteeing a constraint on the transmission rate to the weak user. For the first time, the dependence between the eavesdropper's ability to conduct successive interference cancellation and her channel quality is considered. We determine the optimal power allocation and the redundancy rate, based on which the cost of security in terms of the reduction in the strong user's secrecy rate is examined and the benefits of NOMA…

Backscatter communication (BackCom) has been emerging as a prospective candidate in tackling lifetime management problems for massively deployed Internet-of-Things devices, which suffer from battery-related issues, i.e., replacements, charging, and recycling. This passive sensing approach allows a backscatter sensor node (BSN) to transmit information by reflecting the incident signal from a carrier emitter without initiating its transmission. To multiplex multiple BSNs, power-domain non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), which is a prime candidate for multiple access in beyond 5G systems, is f…

Enabling cooperation in a NOMA system is a promising approach to improve its performance. In this paper, we study the cooperation in a secure NOMA system, where the legitimate users are distributed uniformly in the network and the eavesdroppers are distributed according to a homogeneous Poisson point process. We consider a cooperative NOMA scheme (two users are paired as strong and weak users) in two phases: 1) Direct transmission phase, in which the base station broadcasts a superposition of the messages, 2) Cooperation phase, in which the strong user acts as a relay to help in forwarding the…
This letter focuses on exploring a new decoding order to resolve the secrecy issue among untrusted nonorthogonal multiple access users. In this context, firstly, we identify the total number of possible decoding orders analytically. The optimal designs of decoding order, transmission rates, and power allocated to each user are investigated. Considering the practical passive eavesdropping scenario where the instantaneous channel state of the eavesdropper is unknown, we adopt the secrecy outage probability as the secrecy metric. We first consider the problem of minimizing the transmit po…

Thus, we aimed at designing a transmit antenna selection (TAS) secure communication protocol for the network. Then, two TAS solutions, …
Integrating visible light communication (VLC) and radio-frequency (RF) networks can improve the performance of communication systems in terms of coverage and data rates. However, adding RF links to VLC networks weakens the secrecy performance due to the broadcast and ubiquitous nature of RF links.
