Motivated by the recent progress in solving the large charge sector of conformal field theories, we revisit the mass-charge relation of boson stars asymptotic to global AdS. We construct and classify a large number of electrically charged boson star solutions in a toy model and two supergravity models arising from the $SU(3)$ and $U(1)^4$ truncation of $D=4$ $SO(8)$ gauged maximal supergravity. We find a simple ansatz for the chemical potential that can fit the numerical data in striking accuracy for the full range of charge. Combining with the first law of thermodynamics, we can then evaluate the mass as a function of the charge and obtain the free energy in the fixed charge ensemble. We show that in the toy model, the ground state can be either the extremal RN black hole or the boson stars depending on the parameter region. For the $SU(3)$ truncation, there always exists a boson star that has smaller free energy than the extremal RN black hole, in contrast to the $U(1)^4$ model where the extremal RN black hole is always the ground state. In all models, for boson star solutions with arbitrarily large charge, we show that the large charge expansion of the mass reproduces the same structure exhibited in the CFT side.
We rewrite the worldsheet torus partition function of the Thermal AdS CFT by isolating the boundary parameters. Using this, we show that the spectrum of the Euclidean BTZ black hole and Lorentzian AdS3 can be extracted -- the latter as a zero temperature limit. A similar procedure recovers the Lorentzian BTZ spectrum proposed in an earlier work. We then use our expression to construct a boundary modular invariant expression as a Poincaré series.
Coleman-de Luccia processes for AdS to AdS decays in Einstein-scalar theories are studied. Such tunnelling processes are interpreted as vev-driven holographic RG flows of a quantum field theory on de Sitter space-time. These flows do not exist for generic scalar potentials, which is the holographic formulation of the fact that gravity can act to stabilise false AdS vacua. The existence of Coleman-de Luccia tunnelling solutions in a potential with a false AdS vacuum is found to be tied to the existence of exotic RG flows in the same potential. Such flows are solutions where the flow skips possi…
The dual dynamics of Einstein gravity on AdS$_3$ supplemented with boundary conditions of KdV-type is identified. It corresponds to a two-dimensional field theory at the boundary, described by a novel action principle whose field equations are given by two copies of the "potential modified KdV equation". The asymptotic symmetries then transmute into the global Noether symmetries of the dual action, giving rise to an infinite set of commuting conserved charges, implying the integrability of the system. Noteworthy, the theory at the boundary is non-relativistic and possesses anisotropic scaling …
We discuss dynamics of massive Klein-Gordon fields in two-dimensional Anti-de Sitter spacetimes ($AdS_2$), in particular conserved quantities and non-modal instability on the future Poincaré horizon called, respectively, the Aretakis constants and the Aretakis instability. We find out the geometrical meaning of the Aretakis constants and instability in a parallel-transported frame along a null geodesic, i.e., some components of the higher-order covariant derivatives of the field in the parallel-transported frame are constant or unbounded at the late time, respectively. Because $AdS_2$ is maxim…
Integrable boundaries in AdS/CFT: revisiting the Z=0 giant graviton and D7-brane
We revisit the number-theory dark matter scenario where one of the light chiral fermions required by the anomaly cancellation conditions of U(1)_{B-L} explains dark matter. Focusing on some of the integer B-L charge assignments, we explore a new region of the parameter space where there appear two light fermions and the heavier one becomes a dark matter of mass O(10)keV or O(10)MeV. The dark matter radiatively decays into neutrino and photon, which can explain the tantalizing hint of the 3.55keV X-ray line excess. Interestingly, the other light fermion can erase the AdS vacuum around the neutr…
The verification of the second law of black hole mechanics and the WCCC in the context of enthalpy as mass of the black hole and its related thermodynamic properties has not been tested through a vast number of literature in the recent past. Such studies are of great physical importance as they provide us with a large number of information regarding the thermodynamics and the dynamics of AdS black hole systems. We invest the prior limited surveys of such analysis to investigate the WCCC for the $D$- dimensional asymptotically AdS-charged black holes characterized by its mass ($M$), electric ch…
We study the holographic duals of bosonic and fermionic fields and compute their Quasinormal Frequencies (QNF) by exploiting that they are massive charged fields in $\mathrm{AdS_2 \times \mathcal{K}}$. In particular, we assess the stability of the scalar and fermionic operators in Myers-Perry's black holes with equal angular momenta. We compute the central charge and the Hawking-entropy and introduce extremality parameters to determine the properties of the dual CFT. Then, we briefly discuss how detection of Spin-2 fields can pave the way for more deep understanding of the holographic principl…
It was recently shown that charged AdS boson stars can reproduce the universal structure of the lowest scaling dimension in the subsector of a CFT with fixed large global $U(1)$ charge $Q$. Using the model consisting of Einstein-Maxwell gravity with a negative cosmological constant, coupled to a $U(1)$-charged conformally massless scalar with the fourth-order self interaction, we construct a class of charged AdS boson star solutions in the large $Q$ limit, where the scalar field obeys a mixed boundary condition, parameterized by $k$ that interpolates between the Neumann and Dirichlet boundary …
We study the amplitude for exchange of massless gauge bosons between pairs of massive scalar fields in Anti-de Sitter space. In the AdS/CFT correspondence this amplitude describes the contribution of conserved flavor symmetry currents to 4-point functions of scalar operators in the boundary conformal theory. A concise, covariant (Y2K-compatible) derivation of the gauge boson propagator in $\AdS_{d+1}$ is given. Techniques are developed to calculate the two bulk integrals over AdS space leading to explicit expressions or convenient, simple integral representations for the amplitude. The amplitu…
We study the $T\bar{T}$ deformation of the chiral bosons and show the equivalence between the chiral bosons of opposite chiralities and the scalar fields at the Hamiltonian level under the deformation. We also derive the deformed Lagrangian of more generic theories which contain an arbitrary number of chiral bosons to all orders. By using these results, we derive the $T\bar{T}$ deformed boundary action of the AdS$_3$ gravity theory in the Chern-Simons formulation. We compute the deformed one-loop torus partition function, which satisfies the $T\bar{T}$ flow equation up to the one-loop order. F…
We study the stability of charged solitons in 5-dimensional Anti-de Sitter (AdS) space-time. We show that for appropriate choices of the parameters of the model these solutions become unstable to form scalar hair. We find that the existence of charged solitons with scalar hair depends crucially on the charge and the mass of the scalar field. We investigate the dependence of the spectrum of solutions on the mass of the scalar field in detail. For positive mass of the scalar field the hairy solitons can be interpreted as charged boson stars. We find that for sufficiently small value of the charg…
Using known relation between $SU(2,2|4)$ supertwistors and $SU(2)$ bosonic and fermionic oscillators we identify the physical states of quantized massless $AdS_5\times S^5$ superparticle in supertwistor formulation and discuss how they fit into the spectrum of fluctuations of IIB supergravity on $AdS_5\times S^5$ superbackground.
The scaling dimensions of charged operators in conformal field theory were recently computed in a large charge expansion. We verify this expansion in a dual AdS model. Specifically, we numerically construct solitonic boson star solutions of Einstein-Maxwell-Scalar theory in AdS$_4$ and find that its mass at large charge reproduces the universal form of the lowest operator dimension in the large U(1) charge sector of the dual 2+1 dimensional CFT.
