Triple DES (3DES) is a standard fundamental encryption algorithm, used in several electronic payment applications and web browsers. In this paper, we propose a parallel implementation of 3DES on GPU. Since 3DES encrypts data with 64-bit blocks, our approach considers each 64-bit block a kernel block and assign a separate thread to process each bit. Algorithm's permutation operations, XOR operations, and S-box operations are done in parallel within these kernel blocks. The implementation benefits from the use of constant and shared memory types to optimize memory access. The results show an average 10.70x speed-up against the baseline multi-threaded CPU implementation. The implementation is publicly available at https://github.com/kaanfurkan35/3DES_GPU
The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm is a symmetric block cipher which operates on a sequence of blocks each consists of 128, 192 or 256 bits. Moreover, the cipher key for the AES algorithm is a sequence of 128, 192 or 256 bits. AES algorithm has many sources of parallelism. In this paper, a design of parallel AES on the multiprocessor platform is presented. While most of the previous designs either use pipelined parallelization or take advantage of the Mix_Column parallelization, our design is based on combining pipelining of rounds and parallelization of Mix_Column and Add_Round_…
The standard RSA relies on multiple big-number modular exponentiation operations and longer key-length is required for better protection. This imposes a hefty time penalty for encryption and decryption. In this study, we analyzed and developed an improved parallel algorithm (PMKRSA) based on the idea of splitting the plaintext into multiple chunks and encrypt the chunks using multiple key-pairs. The algorithm in our new scheme is so natural for parallelized implementation that we also investigated its parallelization in a GPU environment. In the following, the structure of our new scheme is ou…
Data Encryption Standard (DES) is based on the Feistel block cipher, developed in 1971 by IBM cryptography researcher Horst Feistel. DES uses 16 rounds of the Feistel structure. But with the changes in recent years, the internet is starting to be used more to connect devices to each other. These devices can range from powerful computing devices, such as desktop computers and tablets, to resource constrained devices, When it comes to these constrained devices, using a different key for each round cryptography algorithms fail to provide necessary security and performance.

With the increasing awareness of privacy protection and data fragmentation problem, federated learning has been emerging as a new paradigm of machine learning. Federated learning tends to utilize various privacy preserving mechanisms to protect the transferred intermediate data, among which homomorphic encryption strikes a balance between security and ease of utilization. However, the complicated operations and large operands impose significant overhead on federated learning. Maintaining accuracy and security more efficiently has been a key problem of federated learning. In this work, we inves…
Proportional to the growth in the usage of Human Sensor Networks (HSN), the volume of the data exchange between Sensor devices is increasing at a rapid pace. In this paper, we have proposed an Energy Efficient Lightweight Encryption (EELWE) algorithm for providing the confidentiality of data at the sensor level, particularly suitable for resource-constrained environments. Results obtained have proved that an EELWE consumes less energy relative to present lightweight ciphers and it supports multiple block sizes of 32-bit, 48-bit, and 64-bit.
Multimedia data security is becoming important with the continuous increase of digital communications on internet. The encryption algorithms developed to secure text data are not suitable for multimedia application because of the large data size and real time constraint. In this paper, classification and description of various video encryption algorithms are presented. Analysis and Comparison of these algorithms with respect to various parameters like visual degradation, encryption ratio, speed, compression friendliness, format compliance and cryptographic security is presented.
We analyze the security of recently proposed image encryption scheme [1]. We show that the scheme is insecure and the methods used to evaluate its security are insufficient. By designing the Deliberately Weak Cipher, a completely vulnerable cipher with good statistical properties, we illustrate our main point -- a solid analysis cannot be replaced by some selected set of statistical properties.
In this paper, some existing perceptual encryption algorithms of MPEG videos are reviewed and some problems, especially security defects of two recently proposed MPEG-video perceptual encryption schemes, are pointed out. Then, a simpler and more effective design is suggested, which selectively encrypts fixed-length codewords (FLC) in MPEG-video bitstreams under the control of three perceptibility factors. The proposed design is actually an encryption configuration that can work with any stream cipher or block cipher. Compared with the previously-proposed schemes, the new design provides more u…
Lightweight block ciphers have been widely used in applications such as RFID tags, IoTs, and network sensors. Among them, with comparable parameters, the Light Encryption Device (LED) block cipher achieves the smallest area. However, implementation of encryption algorithms manifest side-channel leakage, therefore, it is crucial to protect their design against side-channel analyses. In this paper, we present a threshold implementation of the LED cipher which has 64-bit data input and 128-bit key. The presented design splits secret information among multiple shares to achieve a higher security l…

This methodology will be implemented in the data center and other important data transaction sectors of the organisation where the encoding process of the software will be done by the database administrator or system administrators and his trusted clients will have decoding process of the software. This software will not be circulated to the unauthorised customers.
Recently, an image encryption algorithm based on scrambling and Vegin`ere cipher has been proposed. However, it was soon cryptanalyzed by Zhang et al. using a combination of chosen-plaintext attack and differential attack. This paper briefly reviews the two attack methods proposed by Zhang et al. and outlines the mathematical interpretations of them. Based on their work, we present an improved chosen-plaintext attack to further reduce the number of chosen-plaintexts required, which is proved to be optimal. Moreover, it is found that an elaborately designed known-plaintex attack can efficiently…
Today, the protection of information, ensuring of the safety and the recall in lossless in case of need is highly significant and it is seen as a major threat in the field. Information security is possible by hiding the available data, by encrypting, saving, transmitting and sharing. At this point, cryptology subject comes up. Cryptology called as password science includes with the encrypting according to a certain technique of different texts and the transmitting these messages to the recipient in a secure environment. In this study, in information security scope, an original data encryption …
This paper analyzes the security of an image encryption algorithm proposed by Ye and Huang [\textit{IEEE MultiMedia}, vol. 23, pp. 64-71, 2016]. The Ye-Huang algorithm uses electrocardiography (ECG) signals to generate the initial key for a chaotic system and applies an autoblocking method to divide a plain image into blocks of certain sizes suitable for subsequent encryption. The designers claimed that the proposed algorithm is "strong and flexible enough for practical applications". In this paper, we perform a thorough analysis of their algorithm from the view point of modern cryptography. W…
This document describes the symmetric encryption algorithm called Puzzle. It is free and open. The objective of this paper is to get an opinion about its security from the cryptology community. It is separated in two parts, a technical description of the algorithm and its cryptanalysis. The algorithm has some interesting properties : The block size is variable and unknown from an attacker. The size of the key has no limit and is unknown from an attacker. The key size does not affect the algorithm speed (using a 256 bit key is the same as using a 1024 bit key). The algorithm is much faster than…
In this work, we propose an open-source, first-of-its-kind, arithmetic hardware library with a focus on accelerating the arithmetic operations involved in Ring Learning with Error (RLWE)-based somewhat homomorphic encryption (SHE). We design and implement a hardware accelerator consisting of submodules like Residue Number System (RNS), Chinese Remainder Theorem (CRT), NTT-based polynomial multiplication, modulo inverse, modulo reduction, and all the other polynomial and scalar operations involved in SHE. For all of these operations, wherever possible, we include a hardware-cost efficient seria…
Fairly recently, a new encryption scheme for audio data encryption has been proposed by Naskar, P.K., et al. The cryptosystem is based on substitution-permutation encryption structure using DNA encoding at the substitution stage, in which the key generation is based on a key chaining algorithm that generates new key block for every plain block using a logistic chaotic map. After some several statistical tests done by the authors of the scheme, they claimed that their cryptosystem is robust and can resist conventional cryptanalysis attacks. Negatively, in this paper we show the opposite: the sc…
Recent years have shown that more than ever governments and intelligence agencies try to control and bypass the cryptographic means used for the protection of data. Backdooring encryption algorithms is considered as the best way to enforce cryptographic control. Until now, only implementation backdoors (at the protocol/implementation/management level) are generally considered. In this paper we propose to address the most critical issue of backdoors: mathematical backdoors or by-design backdoors, which are put directly at the mathematical design of the encryption algorithm. While the algorithm …
This paper presents two formal models of the Data Encryption Standard (DES), a first using the international standard LOTOS, and a second using the more recent process calculus LNT. Both models encode the DES in the style of asynchronous circuits, i.e., the data-flow blocks of the DES algorithm are represented by processes communicating via rendezvous. To ensure correctness of the models, several techniques have been applied, including model checking, equivalence checking, and comparing the results produced by a prototype automatically generated from the formal model with those of existing imp…
The breakthrough of achieving fully homomorphic encryption sparked enormous studies on where and how to apply homomorphic encryption schemes so that operations can be performed on encrypted data without the secret key while still obtaining the correct outputs. Due to the computational cost, inflated ciphertext size and limited arithmetic operations that are allowed in most encryption schemes, feasible applications of homomorphic encryption are few. While theorists are working on the mathematical and cryptographical foundations of homomorphic encryption in order to overcome the current limitati…
Recently, a chaotic image encryption algorithm based on information entropy (IEAIE) was proposed. This paper scrutinizes the security properties of the algorithm and evaluates the validity of the used quantifiable security metrics. When the round number is only one, the equivalent secret key of every basic operation of IEAIE can be recovered with a differential attack separately. Some common insecurity problems in the field of chaotic image encryption are found in IEAIE, e.g. the short orbits of the digital chaotic system and the invalid sensitivity mechanism built on information entropy of th…
Cryptographic algorithm implementations are vulnerable to Cold Boot attacks, which consist in exploiting the persistence of RAM cells across reboots or power down cycles to read the memory contents and recover precious sensitive data. The principal defensive weapon against Cold Boot attacks is memory encryption. In this work we propose MemShield, a memory encryption framework for user space applications that exploits a GPU to safely store the master key and perform the encryption/decryption operations. We developed a prototype that is completely transparent to existing applications and does no…
A symmetric key encryption scheme is described for blocks of general size N that is a product of powers of many prime numbers. This is accomplished by realising each number (representing a message unit) as a point in a product of affine spaces over various finite fields. Then algebro-geometric transformations on those affine spaces is transported back to provide encryption. For a specific block size${}<2^{128}$ we get more than $2^{5478}$ keys.
This paper proposes a video encryption algorithm using RSA and Pseudo Noise (PN) sequence, aimed at applications requiring sensitive video information transfers. The system is primarily designed to work with files encoded using the Audio Video Interleaved (AVI) codec, although it can be easily ported for use with Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) encoded files. The audio and video components of the source separately undergo two layers of encryption to ensure a reasonable level of security. Encryption of the video component involves applying the RSA algorithm followed by the PN-based encrypti…

Model protection is vital when deploying Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for commercial services, due to the massive costs of training them. In this work, we propose a selective encryption (SE) algorithm to protect CNN models from unauthorized access, with a unique feature of providing hierarchical services to users. Our algorithm firstly selects important model parameters via the proposed Probabilistic Selection Strategy (PSS). It then encrypts the most important parameters with the designed encryption method called Distribution Preserving Random Mask (DPRM), so as to maximize the perfor…
In this paper we consider the description of homomorphic and fully homomorphic ciphers in the $p$-adic model of encryption. This model describes a wide class of ciphers, but certainly not all. Homomorphic and fully homomorphic ciphers are used to ensure the credibility of remote computing, including cloud technology. The model describes all homomorphic ciphers with respect to arithmetic and coordinate-wise logical operations in the ring of $p$-adic integers $Z_p$. We show that there are no fully homomorphic ciphers for each pair of the considered set of arithmetic and coordinate-wise logical o…
