This paper initiates the study of 2-local derivations on Lie algebras over fields of prime characteristic. Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a simple Jacobson-Witt algebra $W_n$ over a field of prime characteristic $p$ with cardinality no less than $p^n$. In this paper, we study properties of 2-local derivations on $\mathfrak{g}$, and show that every 2-local derivation on $\mathfrak{g}$ is a derivation.
We provide a short alternative homological argument showing that any invariant symmetric bilinear form on simple modular generalized Jacobson-Witt algebras vanishes, and outline another, deformation-theoretic one, allowing to describe such forms on simple modular Lie algebras of contact type.
Let $R$ be a ring satisfying a polynomial identity and let $D$ be a derivation of $R$. We consider the Jacobson radical of the skew polynomial ring $R[x;D]$ with coefficients in $R$ and with respect to $D$, and show that $J(R[x;D])\cap R$ is a nil $D$-ideal. This extends a result of Ferrero, Kishimoto, and Motose, who proved this in the case when $R$ is commutative.
In this paper, we prove that every 2-local derivation on Witt algebras $W_n, W_n^+$ or $W_n^{++} $ is a derivation for all $n=1,2,\cdots,\infty$. As a consequence we obtain that every 2-local derivation on any centerless generalized Virasoro algebra of higher rank is a derivation.
In this paper, we prove that every local derivation on Witt algebras $W_n, W_n^+$ or $W_n^{++} $ is a derivation for any $n\in\mathbb{N}$. As a consequence, we obtain that every local derivation on a centerless generalized Virasoro algebra of higher rank is a derivation.
We study solvable Lie algebras in prime characteristic $p$ that admit non-singular derivations. We show that Jacobson's Theorem remains true if the quotients of the derived series have dimension less than~$p$. We also study the structure of Lie algebras with non-singular derivations in which the derived subalgebra is abelian and has codimension~one. The paper presents some new examples of solvable, but not nilpotent, Lie algebras of derived length~3 with non-singular derivations.
The present paper is devoted to study 2-local derivations on infinite-dimensional Lie algebras over a field of characteristic zero. We prove that all 2-local derivations on the Witt algebra as well as on the positive Witt algebra are (global)derivations, and give an example of infinite-dimensional Lie algebra with a 2-local derivation which is not a derivation.

Let $W_{\overline{1}}$ and $H_{\overline{0}}$ denote the odd parts of the general Witt modular Lie superalgebra $W$ and the even parts of the Hamiltonian Lie superalgebra $H$ over a field of characteristic $p>3$, respectively. We give a torus of $H_{\overline{0}}$ and the weight space decomposition of the special subalgebra of $W_{\overline{1}}$ with respect to the torus. By means of the derivations of the weight 0 and three series of outer derivations from $H_{\overline{0}}$ into $W_{\overline{1}}$, the derivations from the even parts of Hamiltonian superalgebra to the odd parts of Witt super…
A relation between $\frac{1}{2}$-derivations of Lie algebras and transposed Poisson algebras was established. Some non-trivial transposed Poisson algebras with a certain Lie algebra (Witt algebra, algebra $\mathcal{W}(a,-1)$, thin Lie algebra and solvable Lie algebra with abelian nilpotent radical) were constructed. In particular, we constructed an example of the transposed Poisson algebra with associative and Lie parts isomorphic to the Laurent polynomials and the Witt algebra. On the other side, it was proven that there are no non-trivial transposed Poisson algebras with Lie algebra part iso…
We extend existing results on locally nilpotent differential polynomial rings to skew extensions of rings. We prove that if $\mathscr{G}=\{σ_t\}_{t\in T}$ is a locally finite family of automorphisms of an algebra $R$, $\mathscr{D}=\{δ_t\}_{t\in T}$ is a family of skew derivations of $R$ such that the prime radical $P$ of $R$ is strongly invariant under $\mathscr{D}$, then the ideal $P\langle T,\mathscr{G},\mathscr{D}\rangle^*$ of $R\langle T,\mathscr{G},\mathscr{D}\rangle$, generated by $P$, is locally nilpotent. We then apply this result to algebras with locally nilpotent derivations. We prov…
Lie algebras formed via semi-direct sums of the Witt algebra $\text{Der}(\mathbb{C}[t,t^{-1}])$ and its modules have become increasingly prominent in both physics and mathematics in recent years. In this paper, we complete the study of (Leibniz) central extensions, derivations and automorphisms of the Lie algebras formed from the semi-direct sum of the Witt algebra and its indecomposable intermediate series modules (that is, graded modules with one-dimensional graded components). Our techniques exploit the internal grading of the Witt algebra, which can be applied to a wider class of graded Li…
Let $P_n=k[x_1,x_2,\ldots,x_n]$ be the polynomial algebra over a field $k$ of characteristic zero in the variables $x_1,x_2,\ldots,x_n$ and $\mathscr{L}_n$ be the left-symmetric Witt algebra of all derivations of $P_n$. We describe all right operator identities of $\mathscr{L}_n$ and prove that the set of all algebras $\mathscr{L}_n$, where $n\geq 1$, generates the variety of all left-symmetric algebras. We also describe a class of general (not only right operator) identities for $\mathscr{L}_n$.
The Quillen-Barr-Beck cohomology of augmented algebras with divided powers is defined as the derived functor of Beck derivations. The main theorem of this paper states that the Kähler differentials of an augmented algebra with divided powers in prime characteristic represents Beck derivations. We give a geometrical interpretation of this statement for the sheaf of relative differentials. As an application in modular Lie theory we prove that any special derivation of a divided powers algebra is a Beck derivation and we apply the theorem to Witt algebras.
We prove the existence of the Hopf PI-exponent for finite dimensional associative algebras $A$ with a generalized Hopf action of an associative algebra $H$ with $1$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$ assuming only the invariance of the Jacobson radical $J(A)$ under the $H$-action and the existence of the decomposition of $A/J(A)$ into the sum of $H$-simple algebras. As a consequence, we show that the analog of Amitsur's conjecture holds for $G$-codimensions of finite dimensional associative algebras over a field of characteristic $0$ with an action of an arbitrary group $…
Some features of Cayley algebras (or algebras of octonions) and their Lie algebras of derivations over fields of low characteristic are presented. More specifically, over fields of characteristic $7$, explicit embeddings of any twisted form of the Witt algebra into the simple split Lie algebra of type $G_2$ are given. Over fields of characteristic $3$, even though the Lie algebra of derivations of a Cayley algebra is not simple, it is shown that still two Cayley algebras are isomorphic if and only if their Lie algebras of derivations are isomorphic. Finally, over fields of characteristic $2$, …
The ground field in the text is of characteristic 2. The classification of modulo 2 gradings of simple Lie algebras is vital for the classification of simple finite-dimensional Lie superalgebras: with each grading, a simple Lie superalgebra is associated, see arXiv:1407.1695. No classification of gradings was known for any type of simple Lie algebras, bar restricted Jacobson-Witt algebras (i.e., the first derived of the Lie algebras of vector fields with truncated polynomials as coefficients) on not less than 3 indeterminates. Here we completely describe gradings modulo 2 for several series of…
