Linear codes generated by component functions of perfect nonlinear (PN) and almost perfect nonlinear (APN) functions and the first-order Reed-Muller codes have been an object of intensive study in coding theory. The objective of this paper is to investigate some binary shortened codes of two families of linear codes from APN functions and some $p$-ary shortened codes associated with PN functions. The weight distributions of these shortened codes and the parameters of their duals are determined. The parameters of these binary codes and $p$-ary codes are flexible. Many of the codes presented in this paper are optimal or almost optimal. The results of this paper show that the shortening technique is very promising for constructing good codes.
The puncturing and shortening technique are two important approaches to constructing new linear codes from old ones. In the past 70 years, a lot of progress on the puncturing technique has been made, and many works on punctured linear codes have been done. Many families of linear codes with interesting parameters have been obtained with the puncturing technique. However, little research on the shortening technique has been done and there are only a handful references on shortened linear codes. The first objective of this paper is to prove some general theory for shortened linear codes. The sec…
Two Optimal One-Error-Correcting Codes of Length 13 That Are Not Doubly Shortened Perfect Codes
长度为13的双缩短完美码利用[PRJ Östergård and O. Pottonen,长度为15的完美二进制1-纠错码:第一部分-分类,IEEE Trans. Inform。理论,出现];有117821个这样的(13,512,3)代码。通过对这些码进行切换操作,得到另外两个(13,512,3)码,它们不是双倍缩短的完美码。
Linear codes and $t$-designs are interactive with each other. It is well known that some $t$-designs have been constructed by using certain linear codes in recent years. However, only a small number of infinite families of the extended codes of linear codes holding an infinite family of $t$-designs with $t\geq 3$ are reported in the literature. In this paper, we study the extended codes of the augmented codes of a class of binary cyclic codes with three zeros and their dual codes, and show that those codes hold $3$-designs. Furthermore, we obtain some shortened codes from the studied cyclic co…
A shortening method for large polarization kernels is presented, which results in shortened kernels with the highest error exponent if applied to kernels of size up to 32. It uses lower and upper bounds on partial distances for quick elimination of unsuitable shortening patterns. The proposed algorithm is applied to some kernels of sizes 16 and 32 to obtain shortened kernels of sizes from 9 to 31. These kernels are used in mixed-kernel polar codes of various lengths. Numerical results demonstrate the advantage of polar codes with shortened large kernels compared with shortened and punctured Ar…
In this paper, we present two new infinite classes of APN functions over $\gf_{2^{2m}}$ and $\gf_{2^{3m}}$, respectively. The first one is with bivariate form and obtained by adding special terms, $\sum(a_ix^{2^i}y^{2^i},b_ix^{2^i}y^{2^i})$, to a known class of APN functions by {G{ö}lo{ǧ}lu} over $\gf_{2^m}^2$. The second one is of the form $L(z)^{2^m+1}+vz^{2^m+1}$ over $\gf_{2^{3m}}$, which is a generalization of one family of APN functions by Bracken et al. [Cryptogr. Commun. 3 (1): 43-53, 2011]. The calculation of the CCZ-invariants $Γ$-ranks of our APN classes over $\gf_{2^8}$ or $\gf_{2^…
In the previous research by Grassl, Huber and Winter, they proved a theorem which can make entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECC) from general quantum error-correcting codes (QECC). In this paper, we prove that the shortened EAQECC is a stabilizer code if the original EAQECC is a stabilizer code.
In this paper, we study the boomerang spectrum of the power mapping $F(x)=x^{k(q-1)}$ over ${\mathbb F}_{q^2}$, where $q=p^m$, $p$ is a prime, $m$ is a positive integer and $\gcd(k,q+1)=1$. We first determine the differential spectrum of $F(x)$ and show that $F(x)$ is locally-APN. This extends a result of [IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory 57(12):8127-8137, 2011] from $(p,k)=(2,1)$ to general $(p,k)$. We then determine the boomerang spectrum of $F(x)$ by making use of its differential spectrum, which shows that the boomerang uniformity of $F(x)$ is 4 if $p=2$ and $m$ is odd and otherwise it is 2. Our re…
Cyclic codes have many applications in consumer electronics, communication and data storage systems due to their efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. An efficient approach to constructing cyclic codes is the sequence approach. In their articles [Discrete Math. 321, 2014] and [SIAM J. Discrete Math. 27(4), 2013], Ding and Zhou constructed several classes of cyclic codes from almost perfect nonlinear (APN) functions and planar functions over finite fields and presented some open problems on cyclic codes from highly nonlinear functions. This article focuses on these exciting works by inves…
