The Be X-ray binary GRO J2058+42 recently went through a Type-II outburst during March-April 2019 lasting for about 50 days. This outburst was detected with the operating all sky X-ray monitors like the Fermi-GBM, Swift-BAT and MAXI-GSC. Two NuSTAR observations were also made, one during the rise and other during the decay of the outburst. It gave us the unique opportunity to analyze the broadband characteristics of the pulsar for the first time and accretion torque characteristics of the pulsar over a range of X-ray luminosity. The pulse profiles are strongly energy dependent, with at least four different pulse components at low energy (< 20 keV) which evolves to a single-peaked profile at high energy (> 30 keV). In each of the narrow energy bands, the pulse profiles are nearly identical in the two NuSTAR observations. The spectra from both the observations are fitted well to a power-law with a Fermi-Dirac type high energy cutoff. We ruled out presence of a cyclotron line in the pulse phase averaged X-ray spectrum in the NuSTAR band with an optical depth greater than 0.15. An iron emission line is detected in both the NuSTAR spectra with an equivalent width of about 125 eV. We looked at the dependence of the spin-up rate on the luminosity and estimated the magnetic field strength from that, which came out to be much higher compared to other known BeXRB pulsars. Lastly, we discussed the inadequacy of the torque-luminosity relation for determination of magnetic field strength of neutron stars.
We investigate broadband emission properties of the pulsar wind nebula (PWN) 3C 58 using a spectral energy distribution (SED) model. We attempt to match simultaneously the broadband SED and spatial variations of X-ray emission in the PWN. We further the model to explain a possible far-IR feature of which a hint is recently suggested in 3C 58: a small bump at $\sim$$10^{11}$ GHz in the PLANCK and Herschel band. While external dust emission may easily explain the observed bump, it may be internal emission of the source implying an additional population of particles. Although significance for the…
We present the first results from a joint XMM-Newton and NuSTAR observation of the gamma-ray emitting millisecond pulsar compact binary PSR J2129-0429. X-ray emission up to about 40 keV is detected and the joint spectrum can be modeled with a power-law plus a neutron star atmosphere model. At a distance of 1.4 kpc, the 0.3-79 keV luminosity is $3.56\times10^{32}$ erg s$^{-1}$. We also detected the 0.64-day binary orbital period with a double-peaked structure across the wavebands. By combining the updated Fermi GeV data, we modeled the broadband spectral energy distribution as well as the X-ray…
We report on broadband X-ray properties of the Rabbit pulsar wind nebula (PWN) associated with the pulsar PSR J1418-6058 using archival Chandra and XMM-Newton data, and a new NuSTAR observation. NuSTAR data above 10 keV allowed us to detect the 110-ms spin period of the pulsar, characterize its hard X-ray pulse profile, and resolve hard X-ray emission from the PWN after removing contamination from the pulsar and other overlapping point sources. The extended PWN was detected up to $\sim$20 keV and is well described by a power-law model with a photon index $Γ\approx$2. The PWN shape does not var…
We present radio pulsar emission beam analyses and models with the primary intent of examining pulsar beam geometry and physics over the broadest band of radio frequencies reasonably obtainable. We consider a set of well-studied pulsars that lie within the Arecibo sky. These pulsars stand out for the broad frequency range over which emission is detectable, and have been extensively observed at frequencies up to 4.5 GHz and down to below 100 MHz. We utilize published profiles to quantify a more complete picture of the frequency evolution of these pulsars using the core/double-cone emission beam…
The frequency dependent eclipses of the radio emission from millisecond pulsars (MSPs) in compact binary systems provide an opportunity to understand the eclipse mechanism and to determine the nature of the eclipsing medium. We combine multifrequency observations from the upgraded Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (uGMRT) and model the broadband radio spectrum in the optically thick to thin transition regime to constrain the eclipse mechanism. The best-fit model to the eclipse phase spectra favors synchrotron absorption by relativistic electrons. We are able to strongly constrain the frequency o…
We present broadband X-ray analyses of a sample of bright ultraluminous X-ray sources with the goal of investigating the spectral similarity of this population to the known ULX pulsars, M82 X-2, NGC7793 P13 and NGC5907 ULX. We perform a phase-resolved analysis of the broadband XMM-Newton+NuSTAR dataset of NGC5907 ULX, finding that the pulsed emission from the accretion column in this source exhibits a similar spectral shape to that seen in both M82 X-2 and NGC7793 P13, and that this is responsible for the excess emission observed at the highest energies when the spectra are fit with accretion …
We study the broadband radiation behavior of a kilonova ejecta-pulsar wind nebula (PWN) system. In this model, we jointly fit the observations of AT 2017gfo in UV-optical-IR bands and the late-time X-ray afterglow of GRB 170817A. Our work shows that a PWN powered by the remnant neutron star (NS) post GW170817 event could affect the optical transient AT 2017gfo and re-brighten the late-time X-ray afterglow of GRB 170817A. The PWN radiation will regulate the trend of future X-ray observations from a flattening to a steep decline until some other sources (e.g., a kilonova afterglow) become domina…
We report on the first simultaneous XMM-Newton, NuSTAR and Swift observations of the transitional millisecond pulsar PSR J1023+0038 in the X-ray active state. Our multi-wavelength campaign allowed us to investigate with unprecedented detail possible spectral variability over a broad energy range in the X-rays, as well as correlations and lags among emissions in different bands. The soft and hard X-ray emissions are significantly correlated, with no lags between the two bands. On the other hand, the X-ray emission does not correlate with the UV emission. We refine our model for the observed mod…
This work is devoted to the study of the broadband 0.8-79 keV spectral and timing properties of the poorly studied X-ray pulsar XTE J1859+083 during its 2015 outburst based on the data from the NuSTAR and Swift observatories. We show that the source pulse profile has complex shape that depends on the energy band. Pulse fraction of XTE J1859+083 has constant value around 35% in the broad energy band, this behaviour is atypical for X-ray pulsars. At the same time its energy spectrum is typical of this class of objects and has a power-law shape with an exponential cutoff at high energies. No cycl…
We present radio observations of the most slowly rotating known radio pulsar PSR J0250+5854. With a 23.5 s period, it is close, or even beyond, the $P$-$\dot{P}$ diagram region thought to be occupied by active pulsars. The simultaneous observations with FAST, the Chilbolton and Effelsberg LOFAR international stations, and NenuFAR represent a five-fold increase in the spectral coverage of this object, with the detections at 1250 MHz (FAST) and 57 MHz (NenuFAR) being the highest- and lowest-frequency published respectively to date. We measure a flux density of $4\pm2$ $μ$Jy at 1250 MHz and an ex…
SAX J1748.9-2021 is a transient accretion powered millisecond X-ray pulsar located in the Globular cluster NGC 6440. We report on the spectral and timing analysis of SAX J1748.9-2021 performed on AstroSat data taken during its faint and short outburst of 2017. We derived the best-fitting orbital solution for the 2017 outburst and obtained an average local spin frequency of 442.361098(3) Hz. The pulse profile obtained from 3-7 keV and 7-20 keV energy bands suggest constant fractional amplitude ~0.5% for fundamental component, contrary to previously observed energy pulse profile dependence. Our …
SXP 1323 is a peculiar high-mass X-ray binary located in the Small Magellanic Cloud, renowned for its rapid spin-up. We investigate for the first time broadband X-ray properties of SXP1323, as observed by the Mikhail Pavlinsky ART-XC and eRosita telescopes on board the SRG observatory. Using ART-XC and eRosita, data we produced first broadband 1-20 keV X-ray spectrum and estimated pulsed fraction above 8 keV. With the addition of archival XMM-Newton observations we traced evolution of the SXP 1323 spin period over the last five years and found that after 2016 the source switched to a linear sp…

We investigate aperiodic X-ray flux variability in accreting highly magnetized neutron stars - X-ray pulsars (XRPs). The X-ray variability is largely determined by mass accretion rate fluctuations at the NS surface, which replicate accretion rate fluctuations at the inner radius of the accretion disc. The variability at the inner radius is due to fluctuations arising all over the disc and propagating inwards under the influence of viscous diffusion. The inner radius varies with mean mass accretion rate and can be estimated from the known magnetic field strength and accretion luminosity of XRPs…

HESS J1356-645 is considered to be a pulsar wind nebula (PWN) associated with the pulsar PSR J1357-6429. We reanalyze the GeV gamma-ray emission in the direction of HESS J1356-645 with more than 13 years of Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) data. The extended gamma-ray emission above 5 GeV is found to be spatially coincident with HESS J1356-645. The spectrum in the energy range of 1 GeV-1 TeV can be described by a power law with an index of $Γ=1.51\pm0.10$. The broadband spectrum of HESS J1356-645 can be reproduced by a leptonic model with a broken power-law electronic spectrum. In addition, we…
We investigated a wealth of X-ray and gamma-ray spectral energy distribution (SED) and multi-band light curve (LC) data of the gamma-ray binary HESS J0632+057 using a phenomenological intrabinary shock (IBS) model. Our baseline model assumes that the IBS is formed by colliding winds from a putative pulsar and its Be companion, and particles accelerated in the IBS emit broadband radiation via synchrotron (SY) and inverse-Compton upscattering (ICS) processes. Adopting the latest orbital solution and system geometry (Tokayer et al. 2021), we reproduced the global X-ray and TeV LC features, two br…
The Vela\,X pulsar wind nebula (PWN) is characterized by the extended radio nebula (ERN) and the central X-ray "cocoon". We have interpreted the $γ$-ray spectral properties of the cocoon in the sibling paper (Bao et al.\,2019); here, we account for the broadband photon spectrum of the ERN. Since the diffusive escape of the electrons from the TeV emitting region is expected to play an insignificant role in shaping the spectrum of the ERN, we attribute the GeV cutoff of the ERN to the reverse shock-PWN interaction. Due to the disruption of the reverse shock, most of plasma of the PWN is driven i…
We report results of the first broadband observation of the transient X-ray pulsar GRO J1008-57 performed in the quiescent state. Observations were conducted quasi-simultaneously with the Mikhail Pavlinsky ART-XC telescope on board SRG and NuSTAR right before the beginning of a Type I outburst. GRO J1008-57 was detected in the state with the lowest observed luminosity around several $\times 10^{34}$ erg s$^{-1}$ and consequently accreting from the cold disk. Timing analysis allowed to significantly detect pulsations during this state for the first time. The observed pulsed fraction of about 20…
Terzan 5 is the only Galactic globular cluster that has plausibly been detected at very-high energies by the High Energy Stereoscopic System. It has an unexpectedly asymmetric very-high-energy morphology that is offset from the cluster center, in addition to a large-scale, offset radio structure and compact diffuse X-ray emission associated with this cluster. We present new data from the Fermi Large Area Telescope on this source. We model the updated broadband spectral energy distribution, attributing this to cumulative pulsed emission from a population of embedded millisecond pulsars as well …
Supernova 1987A offers a unique opportunity to study an evolving supernova in unprecedented detail over several decades. The X-ray emission is dominated by interactions between the ejecta and the circumstellar medium, primarily the equatorial ring (ER). We analyze 3.3 Ms of NuSTAR data obtained between 2012 and 2020, and two decades of XMM-Newton data. Since ${\sim}$2013, the flux below 2 keV has declined, the 3-8 keV flux has increased, but has started to flatten, and the emission above 10 keV has remained nearly constant. The spectra are well described by a model with three thermal shock com…
We present X-ray and radio observations of the recently-discovered bow shock pulsar wind nebula associated with PSR J0002+6216, characterizing the PWN morphology, which was unresolved in previous studies. The multi-frequency, multi-epoch Very Large Array radio observations reveal a cometary tail trailing the pulsar and extending up to 5.3', with multiple kinks along the emission. The presented radio continuum images from multi-configuration broadband VLA observations are one of the first results from the application of multi-term multi-frequency synthesis deconvolution in combination with the …
Ultra-luminous X-ray sources (ULXs) are a class of extra-galactic, point-like, off-nuclear X-ray sources with X-ray luminosity from $\sim 10^{39}$~erg s$^{-1}$ to $10^{41}$~erg s$^{-1}$. We investigated the temporal and broadband X-ray spectral properties of the ULX M81~X--6 using simultaneous \textit{Suzaku} and \textit{NuSTAR} observations. To understand the nature of the source, we searched for pulsating signals from the source using the \textit{NuSTAR} observation. However, we failed to identify any strong pulsating signals from the source. Alternatively, the broadband spectral modelling w…
We present a method by using the phase characteristics of radio observation data for pulsar search and candidate identification. The phase characteristics are relations between the pulsar signal and the phase correction in the frequency-domain, and we regard it as a new search diagnostic characteristic. Based on the phase characteristics, a search method is presented: calculating DM (dispersion measure) -- frequency data to select candidate frequencies, and then confirming of candidates by using the broadband characteristics of pulsar signals. Based on this method, we performed a search test o…
We report on X-ray emission properties of the Crab pulsar(PSR B0531+21) using observations by Insight-HXMT during its first year after launch. We obtained high signal-to-noise profiles in the X-ray energy band 11-250 keV. We have confirmed an increase in the flux ratio of the second peak over the main peak with increasing energy, consistent with other missions. The separation of the two peaks shows no significant trend with increasing energy. The phase-averaged spectrum, fitted by a logpar model, and the phase-resolved spectra of the Crab pulsar, fitted by a powerlaw in the different energy ba…
We report on the analysis of the AstroSat dataset of the accreting millisecond X-ray pulsar SAX J1808.4-3658, obtained during its 2019 outburst. We found coherent pulsations at $\sim 401$ Hz and an orbital solution consistent with previous studies. The 3-20 keV pulse profile can be well fitted with three harmonically related sinusoidal components with background-corrected fractional amplitude of $\sim 3.5 \%$, $\sim 1.2 \%$ and $\sim 0.37 \%$ for fundamental, second and third harmonic, respectively. Our energy-resolved pulse profile evolution study indicate a strong energy dependence. We also …
Context. The Magellanic Clouds are our nearest star-forming galaxies. While the population of high-mass X-ray binaries (HMXBs) in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) is relatively well studied, our knowledge about the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is far from complete given its large angular extent and insufficient coverage with X-ray observations. Aims. We conducted a search for new HMXBs in the LMC using data from eROSITA, the soft X-ray instrument on board the Spektrum-Roentgen-Gamma (SRG) satellite. Methods. After confirming the nature of eRASSU J052914.9-662446 as a hard X-ray source position…
High-energy particle transport in pulsar wind nebulae (PWNe) plays an essential role in explaining the characteristics revealed in multiwavelength observations. In this paper, the TeV-gamma-ray-emitting electrons in the Vela X PWN are approximated to be injected impulsively when the cocoon is formed due to the interaction between the SNR reverse shock and the PWN. By solving the diffusion-loss equation analytically, we reproduce the broadband spectral energy distribution and surface brightness profile simultaneously. The diffusion coefficient of TeV electrons and positrons, which is well const…
Based on phase-resolved broadband spectroscopy using $XMM$-$Newton$ and $NuSTAR$, we report on a potential cyclotron resonant scattering feature at $E \sim 13$ keV in the pulsed spectrum of the recently discoverd ULX pulsar NGC 300 ULX1. If this interpretation is correct, the implied magnetic field of the central neutron star is $B \sim 10^{12}$ G (assuming scattering off electrons), similar to that estimated from the observed spin-up of the star, and also similar to known Galactic X-ray pulsars. We discuss the implications of this result for the connection between NGC 300 ULX1 and the other k…
Context. Pulsars are detected as broadband electromagnetic emitters from the radio wavelength up to high and very high energy in the MeV/GeV and sometimes even in the TeV range. Multi-wavelength phase-resolved spectra and light curves offer an unrivalled opportunity to understand their underlying radiation mechanisms and to localize their emission sites and therefore the particle acceleration regions. Aims. In this paper, we compute pulsars multi-wavelength phase-resolved light-curves and spectra assuming that curvature radiation operates from inside the magnetosphere of a rotating vacuum magn…
Making precise measurements of pulsar dispersion measures (DMs) and applying suitable corrections for them is amongst the major challenges in high-precision timing programmes such as pulsar timing arrays (PTAs). While the advent of wide-band pulsar instrumentation can enable more precise DM measurements and thence improved timing precision, it also necessitates doing careful assessments of frequency-dependent (chromatic) DMs that was theorised by Cordes et al. (2016). Here we report the detection of such an effect in broadband observations of the millisecond pulsar PSR J2241-5236, a high-prior…
