Several different transport processes, such as heat transport, momentum transport and charge transport, may take place at the same time in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). The corresponding transport coefficients are heat conductivity, shear viscosity and electric conductivity respectively. In the present paper, we will study the color-electric conductivity of the QGP in presence of shear viscosity, which is focused on the connection between the charge transport and the momentum transport. To achieve that goal, we solve the viscous chromohydrodynamic equations which are obtained from the QGP kinetic theory associated with the distribution function modified by shear viscosity. According to the solved color fluctuations of hydrodynamic quantities we obtain the induced color current through which the color-electric conductivity is derived. Then we study viscous effects on the color-electric conductivity. In the viscous chromohydrodynamic approach, the conductivity properties of the QGP are mainly demonstrated by the longitudinal part of the color-electric conductivity. Shear viscosity has an appreciable impact on real and imaginary parts of the color-electric conductivity in some frequency region.
The gluon polarization tensor for the quark-gluon plasma with shear viscosity is derived with the viscous chromohydrodynamics. The longitudinal and transverse dielectric functions are evaluated from the gluon polarization tensor, through which the polarization energy loss suffered by a fast quark traveling through the viscous quark-gluon plasma is investigated. The numerical analysis indicates that shear viscosity significantly reduces the polarization energy loss.
To investigate the formation and the propagation of relativistic shock waves in viscous gluon matter we solve the relativistic Riemann problem using a microscopic parton cascade. We demonstrate the transition from ideal to viscous shock waves by varying the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio $η/s$. We show that an $η/s$ ratio larger than 0.2 prevents the development of well-defined shock waves on time scales typical for ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. These findings are confirmed by viscous hydrodynamic calculations.
Furthermore we compare our results with those obtained by solving the relativistic causal dissipative fluid equations of Israel and Stewart (IS), in order to show the validity of the IS hydrodynamics. Employing the parton cascade we also investigate the formation of Mach shocks induced by a hi…
We have investigated the effect of viscosity on the gluonic dissociation of $J/ψ$ in an equilibrating plasma. Suppression of $J/ψ$ due to gluonic dissociation depend on the temperature and also on the chemical equilibration rate. In an equilibrating plasma, viscosity affects the temperature evolution and also the chemical equilibration rate, requiring both of them to evolve slowly compared to their ideal counter part. For Au+Au collisions at RHIC and LHC energies, gluonic dissociation of $J/ψ$ increases for a viscous plasma. Low $P_T$ $J/ψ$'s are found to be more suppressed due to viscosity th…
Under the framework of the viscous chromohydrodynamics, the gluon self-energy is derived for the quark-gluon plasma with shear viscosity. The viscous electric permittivity and magnetic permeability are evaluated from the gluon self-energy, through which the refraction index %in the %viscous quark-gluon plasma is investigated. The numerical analysis indicates that the refractive index becomes negative in some frequency range. The start point for that frequency range is around the electric permittivity pole, and the magnetic permeability pole determines the end point. As the increase of $η/s$, t…
The heavy quark drag and momentum diffusion coefficients in the presence of both the collisional and radiative processes have been studied in a hot viscous QCD medium. The thermal medium effects are incorporated by employing the effective fugacity quasiparticle model based on the lattice QCD equation of state. Viscous effects are embedded into the heavy quark transport through the near-equilibrium distribution functions of the constituent medium particles of the quark-gluon plasma. The viscous corrections to the momentum distributions have been estimated from the effective Boltzmann equation. …
A Lagrangian density for viscous quark-gluon plasma has been constructed within the fluid-like QCD framework. Gauge symmetry is preserved for all terms inside the Lagrangian, except for the viscous term. The transition mechanism from point particle field to fluid field, and vice versa, is discussed. The energy momentum tensor that is relevant for the gluonic plasma having the nature of fluid bulk of gluon sea is derived within the model. By imposing conservation law in the energy momentum tensor, shear viscosity appears as extractable from the equation.
We solve the relativistic Riemann problem in viscous gluon matter employing a microscopic parton cascade. We demonstrate the transition from ideal to viscous shock waves by varying the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio $η/s$ from zero to infinity. We show that an $η/s$ ratio larger than 0.2 prevents the development of well-defined shock waves on timescales typical for ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. Comparisons with viscous hydrodynamic calculations confirm our findings.
We re-examine soft dilepton emission from a weakly coupled Quark-Gluon Plasma. We show that Braaten, Pisarski, and Yuan's result that the dilepton rate rises as E^-4 (and the spectral weight scales as 1/E) at small energy E<<gT is correct, but that the coefficient they found for this behavior is not correct, because their analysis was incomplete. At still smaller scales, the behavior moderates to ~1/E^2 for E <= g^4 T, consistent with a finite electrical conductivity. We evaluate the spectral weight in the E~g^4 T region by kinetic theory techniques and show that it satisfies a sum rule, which…
The drag and diffusion coefficients are studied within the framework of Fokker-Planck dynamics for the case of a charm quark propagating in an expanding quark-gluon plasma. The space-time evolution of the nuclear matter created in the relativistic heavy-ion collision is modelled using MUSIC, a 3+1 D relativistic viscous hydrodynamic approach. The effect of viscous corrections to the heavy quark transport coefficients is explored by considering scattering processes with thermal quarks and gluons in the medium. It is observed that the momentum diffusion of the heavy quarks is sensitive to the sh…
We determine viscosity corrections to the retarded, advanced and symmetric gluon self energies and to the static propagator in the weak-coupling "hard loop" approximation to high-temperature QCD. We apply these results to calculate the imaginary part of the heavy-quark potential which is found to be smaller (in magnitude) than at vanishing viscosity. This implies a smaller decay width of quarkonium bound states in an anisotropic plasma.
We estimate here the electrical and Hall conductivity using a quasiparticle approach for quark matter. We use a Boltzmann kinetic approach in presence of external magnetic field. We confront the results of model calculations with Lattice QCD simulations for vanishing magnetic field. In general electrical conductivity decreases with magnetic field. The Hall conductivity on the other hand can show a non monotonic behaviour with magnetic field due to an intricate interplay of behaviour of relaxation time and strength of the magnetic field. We argue for vanishing quark chemical potential Hall cond…
We study the properties of quarkonia inside a bulk-viscous quark gluon plasma. The non-equilibrium nature of the medium is encoded in the deformed distribution functions of thermal quarks and gluons, with which we compute the dielectric permittivity within the hard thermal loop approximation at one-loop. The modified dielectric permittivity is used to calculate the in-medium heavy quark potential, and using the potential we compute spectral functions, which reflect the physical properties of heavy quarkonia. We discuss how the bulk viscous effect influences quantities such as binding energies …
Photons radiated in heavy-ion collisions are a penetrating probe, and as such can play an important role in the determination of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) transport coefficients. In this work we calculate the bulk viscous correction to photon production in two-to-two scattering reactions. Phase-space integrals describing the bulk viscous correction are evaluated explicitly in order to avoid the forward scattering approximation which is shown to be poor for photons at lower energies. We furthermore present hydrodynamical simulations of AA collisions focusing on the effect of this calculation…
We investigate the shear viscosity of leptons in a strongly coupled quark gluon plasma (QGP). We find that the shear viscosity due to the lepton-quark scattering is inversely proportional to the ratio of electric conductivity of the QGP to temperature up to the leading logarithmic order of the electromagnetic coupling. The finding implies that the thermal leptons form a more viscous fluid than the quarks by a large ratio. Using the known result for the electrical conductivity of strongly coupled plasmas obtained from gauge/gravity duality, we find that the lepton shear viscosity is suppressed …
Quarks produced in the early stage of non-central heavy-ion collisions could develop a global spin polarization along the opposite direction of the reaction plane due to the spin-orbital coupling via parton interaction in a medium that has finite longitudinal flow shear along the direction of the impact parameter. We study how such polarization evolves via multiple scattering in a viscous quark-gluon plasma with an initial laminar flow. The final polarization is found to be sensitive to the viscosity and the initial shear of local longitudinal flow.
The temperature and density dependence of the relaxation times, thermal conductivity, shear viscosity and bulk viscosity for a hot and dense gas consisting of pions, kaons and nucleons have been evaluated in the kinetic theory approach. The in-medium cross-sections for $ππ$, $πK$ and $πN$ scatterings were obtained by using complete propagators for the exchanged $ρ$, $σ$, $K^*$ and $Δ$ excitations derived using thermal field theoretic techniques. Notable deviations can be observed in the temperature dependence of $η$, $ζ$ and $λ$ when compared with corresponding calculations using vacuum cross-…
The heavy-quark (HQ) transport coefficients have been estimated for a viscous quark-gluon plasma medium, utilizing a recently proposed quasi-particle description based on realistic QGP equation of state (EoS). Interactions entering through the equation of state significantly suppress the temperature dependence of the drag coefficient of QGP as compared to that of an ideal system of quarks and gluons. Inclusion of shear and bulk viscosities through the corrections to the thermal phase space factors of the bath particles alters the magnitude of the drag coefficient and the enhancement is signifi…
We calculate the relaxation time self-consistently to study the damping of collective color modes and the color conductivity in a QGP by deriving self-consistent equations for the damping rates of gluons and quarks to leading order QCD by TFD including a chemical potential for quarks. We show that the damping rates are not sensitive to the chemical potential whereas color conductivity is enhanced considerably.
The study of transport coefficients of strongly interacting matter got impetus after the discovery of perfect fluid ever created at ultrarelativistic heavy ion collision experiments. In this article, we have calculated one such coefficient viz. electrical conductivity of the quark gluon plasma (QGP) phase which exhibits a momentum anisotropy. Relativistic Boltzmann's kinetic equation has been solved in the relaxation-time approximation to obtain the electrical conductivity. We have used the quasiparticle description to define the basic properties of QGP. We have compared our model results with…
We study the properties of heavy quarkonia in a quark-gluon plasma in the presence of bulk viscous effects. Within the hard thermal loop approximation at one-loop, the dielectric permittivity of quark-gluon plasma is computed, where the bulk viscous effect enters through the deformation of the distribution functions of thermal quarks and gluons. Based on the modified dielectric permittivity, we compute the in-medium heavy quark potential, that includes non-pertubative string-like terms as well as the perturbative Coulombic term. We discuss how the bulk viscous effect modifies the real and imag…
In this preprint we present our results on the study of the electromagnetic conductivity in dense quark-gluon plasma obtained within lattice simulations with $N_f = 2 + 1$ dynamical quarks. We employ stout improved rooted staggered quarks at the physical point and the tree-level Symanzik improved gauge action. The simulations are performed at imaginary baryon chemical potential, and the Tikhonov regularisation method is used to extract the conductivity from current-current correlators. Our results indicate an increase of QGP electromagnetic conductivity with real baryon density, and this depen…
Fluid dynamic considerations are used to determine the electric current spectral density in the regime of small energies and momenta. The spectral density in this regime is parameterized by the electric conductivity, the charge susceptibility, and the relaxation time for the electric current, which is needed for relativistic causality. Experimentally, the spectral function can be accessed through the production rates of photons and dileptons in the expanding quark-gluon plasma. We use fluid dynamic simulations of high energy nuclear collisions, together with the transport limit of the spectral…
A lattice calculation is presented for the electrical conductivity of the QCD plasma with 2+1 dynamical flavours at nonzero temperature. We employ the conserved lattice current on anisotropic lattices using a tadpole-improved clover action and study the behaviour of the conductivity over a wide range of temperatures, both below and above the deconfining transition. The conductivity is extracted from a spectral-function analysis using the Maximal Entropy Method and a discussion of its systematics is provided.
Effect of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) interaction in quark-gluon plasma on electrical conductivity is studied, where lattice quantum chromodynamics (LQCD) results are mapped through quark and gluon degeneracy.
We demonstrate how to match pre-equilibrium dynamics of a 0+1 dimensional quark gluon plasma to 2nd-order viscous hydrodynamical evolution. The matching allows us to specify the initial values of the energy density and shear tensor at the initial time of hydrodynamical evolution as a function of the lifetime of the pre-equilibrium period. We compare two models for the pre-equilibrium quark-gluon plasma, longitudinal free streaming and collisionally-broadened longitudinal expansion, and present analytic formulas which can be used to fix the necessary components of the energy-momentum tensor. Th…
We compute the electrical conductivity of quark-gluon plasma in a strong magnetic field $B$ with quantum field theory at finite temperature using the lowest Landau level approximation. We provide the one-loop result arising from 1-to-2 scattering processes whose kinematics are satisfied by the (1+1) dimensional fermion dispersion relation. Due to the chirality conservation, the conductivity diverges in the massless limit, and is sensitive to the value of the current quark mass. As a result, we find that the conductivity along the direction of the magnetic field is quite large compared with the…
The bottom quark transport coefficients, i.e., drag and diffusion coefficients, have been studied for the collisional and soft gluon radiative processes within the viscous QCD medium. The thermal medium effects are incorporated using the effective fugacity quasiparticle model (EQPM). Both the shear and bulk viscous effects at leading order are embedded through the near-equilibrium distribution functions of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) constituent quasiparticles. The transport coefficients' dependence on the bottom quark's initial momentum and QGP temperature has been investigated. The relative…
In this article, we present a state-of-the-art algorithm for solving the relativistic viscous hydrodynamics equation with the QCD equation of state. The numerical method is based on the second-order Godunov method and has less numerical dissipation, which is crucial in describing of quark-gluon plasma in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. We apply the algorithm to several numerical test problems such as sound wave propagation, shock tube and blast wave problems. In sound wave propagation, the intrinsic numerical viscosity is measured and its explicit expression is shown, which is the second-ord…
We study the effect of shear and bulk viscosities on the heavy quark transport coefficient within the matrix model of semi QGP. Dissipative effects are incorporated through the first-order viscous correction in the quark/antiquark and gluon distribution function. It is observed that while the shear viscosity effects reduces the drag of heavy quark the bulk viscosity effects increase the drag and the diffusion coefficients of heavy quark. For finite values of η/s and ξ/s, Polyakov loop further decreases the drag and the diffusion coefficients as compared to perturbative QCD.
The non-equilibrium properties of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) have been a topic of intensive research. In this contribution, we explore the nature of heavy quarkonia immersed in a QGP with bulk viscosity. We incorporate the bulk viscous effect through the deformation of the distribution functions of thermal quarks and gluons, with which the color dielectric permittivity can be computed. We use the color dielectric permittivity to compute the heavy quark potential inside a bulk viscous plasma and solve the Schrödinger equation using the potential to obtain the physical properties such as binding e…
Photons are a penetrating probe of the hot and dense medium created in heavy-ion collisions. We present state-of-the-art calculations of viscous photon emission from nuclear collisions at RHIC and LHC. Thermal photons anisotropic flow coefficients v_n are computed, both with and without accounting for viscous corrections to the standard thermal emission rates. These corrections are found to have a larger effect on the v_n coefficients than the viscous suppression of hydrodynamic flow anisotropies. For thermal photons, the ratio v_2{SP}/v_3{SP} shows stronger sensitivity to the quark-gluon plas…
We present state-of-the-art calculations of viscous photon emission from nuclear collisions at RHIC and LHC. Fluctuating initial density profiles are evolved with event-by-event viscous hydrodynamics. Momentum spectra of thermal photons radiated by these explosively expanding fireballs and their $p_T$-differential anisotropic flow coefficients $v_n(p_T)$ are computed, both with and without accounting for viscous corrections to the standard thermal emission rates. Viscous corrections to the rates are found to have a larger effect on the $v_n$ coefficients than the viscous suppression of hydrody…
We extract the electrical conductivity $σ_0$ of the quark gluon plasma(QGP) and study the effects of magnetic field and chiral anomaly on soft photon azimuthal anisotropy, $v_2$, based on the thermal photon spectrum at $0.4GeV<p_{\perp}<0.6GeV$ at RHIC energy. As a basis for our analysis, we derive the behavior of retarded photon self energy of a strongly interacting neutral plasma in hydrodynamic regime in the presence of magnetic field and chiral anomaly. By evolving the resulting soft thermal photon production rate over the realistic hydrodynamic background and comparing the results with th…
We show that in asymmetric heavy-ion collisions, especially off-central Cu+Au collisions, a sizable strength of electric field directed from Au nucleus to Cu nucleus is generated in the overlapping region, because of the difference in the number of electric charges between the two nuclei. This electric field would induce an electric current in the matter created after the collision, which result in a dipole deformation of the charge distribution. The directed flow parameters $v_1^{\pm}$ of charged particles turn out to be sensitive to the charge dipole and provide us with information about ele…
Parton-parton collisions do not neutralize local color charges in the quark-gluon plasma as they only redistribute the charges among momentum modes. We discuss color diffusion and color conductivity as the processes responsible for the neutralization of the plasma. For this purpose, we first compute the conductivity and diffusion coefficients in the plasma that is significantly colorful. Then, the time evolution of the color density due to the conductivity and diffusion is studied. The conductivity is shown to be much more efficient than the diffusion in neutralizing the plasma at the scale lo…
We study the electromagnetic (e.m.) conductivity of QGP in a magnetic background by lattice simulations with $N_f = 2+1$ dynamical rooted staggered fermions at the physical point. We study the correlation functions of the e.m.~currents at $T=200,\,250$\,MeV and use the Tikhonov approach to extract the conductivity. This is found to rise with the magnetic field in the direction parallel to it and to decrease in the transverse direction, giving evidence for both the Chiral Magnetic Effect and the magnetoresistance phenomenon in QGP. We also estimate the chiral charge relaxation time in QGP.
We discuss the general features of the electromagnetic radiation from a thermal hadronic gas as constrained by chiral symmetry. The medium effects on the electromagnetic spectral functions and the partial restoration of chiral symmetry are quantified in terms of the pion densities. The results are compared with the electromagnetic radiation from a strongly interacting quark-gluon plasma in terms of the leading gluon condensate operators. We use the spectral functions as constrained by the emission rates to estimate the electric conductivity, the light flavor susceptibility and diffusion consta…
The shear ($η$) and bulk ($ζ$) viscous coefficients have been evaluated for a gluonic fluid. The elastic, $gg \rightarrow gg$ and the inelastic, number non-conserving, $gg\rightarrow ggg$ processes have been considered as the dominant perturbative processes in evaluating the viscous co-efficients to entropy density ($s$) ratios. Recently the processes: $gg \rightarrow ggg$ has been revisited and a correction to the widely used Gunion-Bertsch (GB) formula has been obtained. The $η$ and $ζ$ have been evaluated for gluonic fluid with the formula derived recently. The sensitivity of the quantity, …
The dissipative corrections to the hydrodynamic equations describing the evolution of energy-momentum tensor and parton densities are derived in a simple way using the scaling approximation for the expanding quark gluon plasma at finite baryon density. This procedure has been extended to study the process of chemical equilibration using a set of rate equations appropriate for a viscous quark gluon plasma. It is found that in the presence of dissipation, the temperature of the plasma evolves slower, whereas the quark and gluon fugacities evolve faster than their counterparts in the ideal case w…
Transport processes are considered for their abilities to generate flow in a mixed-phase system of hadrons plus quark-gluon plasma exhibiting temperature and density gradients. Diffusive mechanisms are found to be the leading sources. Even after overcoming viscous effects, conductive and diffusive forces generate flow velocities for pions in a model using kinetic theory to within fifteen percent of light speed. Since such flow is not observed, this could possibly rule out the mixed phase in the evolution of high energy heavy ion collisions.
The photon emission from a non-equilibrium quark-gluon plasma (QGP) is analyzed. We derive an integral equation that describes photon production through quark-antiquark annihilation and quark bremsstrahlung. It includes coherence between different scattering sites, also known as the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal effect. These leading-order processes are studied for the first time together in an out-of-equilibrium field theoretical treatment that enables the inclusion of viscous corrections to the calculation of electromagnetic emission rates. In the special case of an isotropic, viscous, plasma th…
The transport coefficients of strongly interacting matter are currently subject of intense theoretical and phenomenological studies due to their relevance for the characterization of the quark-gluon plasma produced in ultra relativistic heavy-ion collisions (uRHIC). We discuss the connection between the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio, $η/s$, and the electric conductivity, $σ_{el}$. Once the relaxation time is tuned to have a minimum value of $η/s=1/4π$ near the critical temperature $T_c$, one simultaneously predicts $σ_{el}/T$ very close to recent lQCD data. More generally, we discus…
I describe the lattice determination of the electrical conductivity of the quark gluon plasma. Since this is the first extraction of a transport coefficient with a degree of control over errors, I next use this to make estimates of other transport related quantities using simple kinetic theory formulae. The resulting estimates are applied to fluctuations, ultra-soft photon spectra and the viscosity. Dimming of ultra-soft photons is exponential in the mean free path, and hence is a very sensitive probe of transport.
In the presence of a strong magnetic field, the quark gluon plasma is magnetized, leading to anisotropic transport coefficients. In this work, we focus on the effect of magnetization on electric conductivity, ignoring the possible contribution from the axial anomaly. We generalize longitudinal and transverse conductivities to finite frequencies. For transverse conductivity, a separation of contribution from fluid velocity is needed. We study the dependence of the conductivities on the magnetic field and frequency using a holographic magnetic brane model. The longitudinal conductivity scales ro…
Non-equilibrium corrections to the distribution functions of quarks and gluons in a hot and dense QCD medium modify the "hard thermal loops" (HTL). The HTLs determine the retarded, advanced, and symmetric (time-ordered) propagators for gluons with soft momenta as well as the Debye screening and Landau damping mass scales. We compute such corrections to a thermal as well as to a non-thermal fixed point. The screening and damping mass scales are sensitive to the bulk pressure and hence to (pseudo-) critical dynamical scaling of the bulk viscosity in the vicinity of a second-order critical point. …
In mean field approximation, the grand canonical potential of SU(3) Polyakov linear-$σ$ model (PLSM) is analysed for chiral phase-transition, $σ_l$ and $σ_s$ and for deconfinement order-parameters, $ϕ$ and $ϕ^*$ of light- and strange-quarks, respectively. Various PLSM parameters are determined from the assumption of global minimization of the real part of the potential. Then, we have calculated the subtracted condensates ($Δ_{l,s}$). All these results are compared with recent lattice QCD simulations. Accordingly, essential PLSM parameters are determined. The modelling of the relaxation time is…
We compute the spectrum of thermal photons created in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV, taking into account dissipative corrections in production processes corresponding to the quark--gluon plasma and hadronic phases. To describe the evolution of the fireball we use a viscous fluid dynamic model with different parametrizations for the temperature--dependence of $η/s$. We find that the spectrum significantly depends on the values of $η/s$ in the QGP phase, and is almost insensitive to the values in the hadronic phase. We also compare the influence of the temperature--dependence of $η…
The frequency dependent conductivity $σ(ω)$ of the strongly coupled Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) is estimated using a bottom up holographic model that can adequately describe recent lattice data for QCD thermodynamics at zero chemical potential. Different choices for the coupling between the bulk gauge field and the other bulk fields that define the background (the metric and a scalar field) are used in order to fit the lattice data for the electric charge susceptibility $χ_2^Q/T^2$. The ratio $σ_{DC}/T$ is found to vary near the deconfinement transition in a way that is similar to recent lattice …
We compute the electrical conductivity ($ σ_{el} $) in the presence of constant and homogeneous external electromagnetic field for the static quark-gluon plasma (QGP) medium, which is among the important transport coefficients of QGP. We present the derivation of the electrical conductivity by solving the relativistic Boltzmann kinetic equation in the relaxation time approximation in the presence of magnetic field ($ B $). We investigate the dependence of electrical conductivity on the temperature and finite chemical potential in magnetic field. We find that electrical conductivity decreases w…
We derive an expression for the heavy quark damping rate in hot quark gluon plasma in presence of flow. Here all the bath particles here are out of equilibrium due to the existence of non-zero velocity gradient. The magnetic sector shows similar infrared divergences even after hard thermal loop corrections as one encounters in case of non-viscous plasma. We estimate the first order correction in ($η/s$) for heavy quark damping rate due to the non-zero viscosity of the QCD plasma.
We investigate hydrodynamic evolution of the quark gluon plasma for the colour glass condensate type initial conditions. We solve full second-order viscous hydrodynamic equations in the longitudinal direction to find that non-boost invariant expansion leads to visible deformation on the initial rapidity distribution. The results indicate that hydrodynamic evolution with viscosity plays an important role in determining parameters for the initial distributions.
Time evolution of electromagnetic field created in heavy-ion collisions strongly depends on the electromagnetic response of the quark-gluon plasma, which can be described by the Ohmic and chiral conductivities. The later is intimately related to the Chiral Magnetic Effect. I argue that a solution to the classical Maxwell equations at finite chiral conductivity is unstable due to the soft modes $k<σ_χ$ that grow exponentially with time. In the kinematical region relevant for the relativistic heavy-ion collisions, I derive analytical expressions for the magnetic field of a point charge. I show t…
