It is well known from the Butcher-Oemler effect that galaxies in dense environment are mostly red with little star formation and the fraction of blue galaxies in galaxy groups/clusters also declines rapidly with redshifts. A recent work by Hashimoto et al. reported a local 'blue cluster' with high fraction of blue galaxies ($\sim 0.57$), higher than the model predictions. They ascribed this blue cluster to the feeding of gas along a filamentary structure around the cluster. In this work we use group catalog from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7 (SDSS DR7) and the state-of-art of semi-analytic model (SAM) to investigate the formation of blue clusters in local Universe. In total, we find four blue clusters with halo mass $\sim 10^{14}M_{\odot}$ at $0.02 < z < 0.082$, while only the one found by Hashimoto et al. is in a filamentary structure. The SAM predicts that blue clusters have later formation time and most blue satellite galaxies are recently accreted. We conclude that the formation of blue clusters is mainly governed by newly accreted blue satellites, rather than the effect of large-scale environment.
Galaxies evolve from a blue star-forming phase into a red quiescent one by quenching their star formation activity. In high density environments, this galaxy evolution proceeds earlier and more efficiently. Therefore, local galaxy clusters are dominated by well-evolved red, elliptical galaxies. The fraction of blue galaxies in clusters monotonically declines with decreasing redshift, i.e., the Butcher-Oemler effect. In the local Universe, observed blue fractions of massive clusters are as small as $\lesssim$ 0.2. Here we report a discovery of a \lq \lq blue cluster\rq \rq, that is a local gala…
Context: Star forming early-type galaxies with blue optical colours at low redshift can be used to test our current understanding of galaxy formation and evolution. Aims: We want to reveal the fuel and triggering mechanism for star formation in these otherwise passively evolving red and dead stellar systems. Methods: We undertook an optical and ultraviolet study of 55 star forming blue early-type galaxies, searching for signatures of recent interactions that could be driving the molecular gas into the galaxy and potentially triggering the star formation. Results: We report here our results on …
Star-forming blue early-type galaxies at low redshift can give insight to the stellar mass growth of L$*$ elliptical galaxies in the local Universe. We wish to understand the reason for star formation in these otherwise passively evolving red and dead stellar systems. The fuel for star formation can be acquired through recent accretion events such as mergers or flyby. The signatures of such events should be evident from a structural analysis of the galaxy image. We carried out structural analysis on SDSS $r$-band imaging data of 55 star-forming blue elliptical galaxies, derived the structural …
Luminous Compact Blue Galaxies (LCBGs) are compact, star-forming galaxies that are rarely observed in the local universe but abundant at z=1. This increase in LCBG number density over cosmic lookback time roughly follows the increase in the star formation rate density of the universe over the same period. We use publicly available data in the COSMOS field to study the evolution of the largest homogeneous sample of LCBGs to date by deriving their luminosity function in four redshift bins over the range $0.1\leq~z\leq1$. We find that over this redshift range, the characteristic luminosity (M$^{*…
We propose that there is an evolutionary link between ultra-compact blue dwarf galaxies (UCBDs) with active star formation and nucleated dwarfs based on the results of numerical simulations of dwarf-dwarf merging. We consider the observational fact that low-mass dwarfs can be very gas-rich, and thereby investigate the dynamical and chemical evolution of very gas-rich, dissipative dwarf-dwarf mergers. We find that the remnants of dwarf-dwarf mergers can be dominated by new stellar populations formed from the triggered starbursts and consequently can have blue colors and higher metallicities (Z~…
Using deep Hubble and Spitzer observations Oesch et al. (2016) have identified a bright ($M_{\rm UV}\approx -22$) star forming galaxy candidate at $z \approx 11$. The presence of GN-$z11$ implies a number density $\sim 10^{-6}\,{\rm Mpc^{-3}}$, roughly an order of magnitude higher than the expected value based on extrapolations from lower redshift. Using the unprecedented volume and high resolution of the BlueTides cosmological hydrodynamical simulation, we study the population of luminous rare objects at $z > 10$. The luminosity function in BlueTides implies an enhanced number of massive gala…
Extreme emission-line galaxies, such as blue compact dwarfs (BCDs), Green Peas (GPs) and blueberries in the local Universe are the potential candidates to understand the nature of galaxies that re-ionized the early Universe. Being low-mass, metal-poor starburst systems they are understood as local analogs of the high redshift Lyman Continuum (LyC) and Lyman-$α$ emitters (LAEs). Even with their proximity to us, we know little about their spatially resolved properties, most of the blueberries and GPs are indeed compact, remain unresolved. Here, we report the detection of a disk-like lower-surfac…
We present oxygen abundance measurements for 74 blue compact dwarf (BCD) galaxies in the redshift range in [0.2, 0.5] using the strong-line method. The spectra of these objects are taken using Hectospec on the Multiple Mirror Telescope (MMT). More than half of these BCDs had dust attenuation corrected using the Balmer decrement method. For comparison, we also selected a sample of 2023 local BCDs from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) database. Based on the local and intermediate-z BCD samples, we investigated the cosmic evo- lution of the metallicity, star-formation rate (SFR), and Dn (4000)…
We discuss and test possible evolutionary connections between Blue Compact Dwarf galaxies (BCDs) and other types of dwarf galaxies. BCDs provide ideal laboratories to study intense star formation episodes in low mass dwarf galaxies, and have sometimes been considered a short-lived evolutionary stage between types of dwarf galaxies. To test these connections, we consider a sample of BCDs as well as a comparison sample of nearby galaxies from the Local Volume Legacy (LVL) survey for context. We fit the multi-wavelength spectral energy distributions (SED, far-ultra-violet to far-infrared) of each…
Motivated by recent observational constraints on dust reprocessed emission in star forming galaxies at $z\sim 6$ and above we use the very-large cosmological hydrodynamical simulation \bluetides\ to explore predictions for the amount of dust obscured star formation in the early Universe ($z>8$). \bluetides\ matches current observational constraints on both the UV luminosity function and galaxy stellar mass function and predicts that approximately $90\%$ of the star formation in high-mass ($M_{*}>10^{10}\,{\rm M_{\odot}}$) galaxies at $z=8$ is already obscured by dust. The relationship between …
The morphological types of 5840 galaxies were classified by a visual inspection of color images using the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 7 (DR7) to produce a morphology catalog of a representative sample of local galaxies with $z<0.01$. The sample galaxies are almost complete for galaxies brighter than $r_{pet}=17.77$. Our classification system is basically the same as that of the Third Reference Catalog of Bright Galaxies with some simplification for giant galaxies. On the other hand, we distinguish fine features of dwarf elliptical-like galaxies to classify 5 subtypes: dwarf el…
The metal-poor sub-population of globular cluster (GC) systems exhibits a correlation between the GC average colour and luminosity, especially in those systems associated with massive elliptical galaxies. More luminous (more massive) GCs are typically redder and hence more metal-rich. This 'blue tilt' is often interpreted as a mass-metallicity relation stemming from GC self-enrichment, whereby more massive GCs retain a greater fraction of the enriched gas ejected by their evolving stars, fostering the formation of more metal-rich secondary generations. We examine the E-MOSAICS simulations of t…
The modern merger hypothesis offers a method of forming a new elliptical galaxy through merging two equal-mass, gas-rich disk galaxies fuelling a nuclear starburst followed by efficient quenching and dynamical stabilization. A key prediction of this scenario is a central concentration of young stars during the brief phase of morphological transformation from highly-disturbed remnant to new elliptical galaxy. To test this aspect of the merger hypothesis, we use integral field spectroscopy to track the stellar Balmer absorption and 4000Å break strength indices as a function of galactic radius fo…
The optical spectroscopic and radio interferometric HI 21 cm-line observations of the blue compact dwarf galaxy Mrk 22 are presented. The Wolf-Rayet (WR) emission line features corresponding to high ionization lines of HeII $λ$4686 and CIV $λ$5808 from young massive stars are detected. The ages of two prominent star forming regions in the galaxy are estimated as $\sim$10 Myr and $\sim$ 4 Myr. The galaxy has non-thermal radio deficiency, which also indicates a young star-burst and lack of supernovae events from the current star formation activities, consistent with the detection of WR emission …
The star formation rates (SFRs) in weak emission line (WEL) galaxies in a volume-limited ($0.02 < z < 0.05$) sample of blue early-type galaxies (ETGs) identified from SDSS, are constrained here using 1.4 GHz radio continuum emission. The direct detection of 1.4 GHz radio continuum emission is made in 8 WEL galaxies and a median stacking is performed on 57 WEL galaxies using VLA FIRST images. The median stacked 1.4 GHz flux density and luminosity are estimated as 79 $\pm$ 19 $μ$Jy and 0.20 $\pm$ 0.05 $\times$ 10$^{21}$ W Hz$^{-1}$ respectively. The radio far-infrared correlation in 4 WEL galaxi…
We present a study of a sample of 254 clusters from the SDSS-DR7 Yang Catalog and an auxiliary sample of field galaxies to perform a detailed investigation on how galaxy quenching depends on both environment and galaxy stellar mass. Our samples are restricted to 0.03$\leq$z$\leq$0.1 and we only consider clusters with $\rm log(M_{halo}/M_{\odot}) \geq 14$. Comparing properties of field and cluster galaxies in the Blue Cloud, Green Valley and Red Sequence, we find evidence that field galaxies in the red sequence hosted star formation events $\rm 2.1 \pm 0.7$ Gyr ago, on average, more recently th…
The origin of the observed steep rotation curves of blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCDs) remains largely unexplained by theoretical models of BCD formation. We therefore investigate the rotation curves in BCDs formed from mergers between gas-rich dwarf irregular galaxies based on the results of numerical simulations for BCD formation. The principal results are as follows. The dark matter of merging dwarf irregulars undergoes a central concentration so that the central density can become up to six times higher than those of the initial dwarf irregulars. However, the more compact dark matter halo …
(Abridged) The formation of massive spheroidal galaxies is studied on a visually classified sample of 910 galaxies extracted from the ACS/HST images of the GOODS North and South fields (0.4<z<.5). Three key observables are considered: comoving number density, internal colour distribution; and the Kormendy relation. The comoving number density of the most massive galaxies is found not to change significantly with redshift. One quarter of the whole sample of early-types are photometrically classified as blue galaxies. On a volume-limited subset out to z<0.7, the average stellar mass of the blue …
As part of the Bluedisk survey we analyse the radial gas-phase metallicity profiles of 50 late-type galaxies We compare the metallicity profiles of a sample of HI-rich galaxies against a control sample of HI-'normal' galaxies. We find the metallicity gradient of a galaxy to be strongly correlated with its HI mass fraction (M(HI) / Mstar). We note that some galaxies exhibit a steeper metallicity profile in the outer disc than in the inner disc. These galaxies are found in both the HI-rich and control samples. This contradicts a previous indication that these outer drops are exclusive to HI-rich…
Blue stragglers are thought to be formed from the merger or coalescence of two stars, but the details of their formation in clusters has been difficult to disentangle. We discuss the two main formation mechanisms for blue stragglers (stellar collisions or mass transfer in a binary system). We then look at the additional complications caused by the stars living in the dynamically active environment of a star cluster. We review the recent observational and theoretical work which addresses the question "which mechanism dominates?" and conclude that the most likely answer is that both mechanisms a…
We measured the $12.8μ$m [NeII] line in the dwarf starburst galaxy He 2-10 with the high-resolution spectrometer TeXeS on the NASA IRTF. The data cube has diffraction-limited spatial resolution $\sim1^{\prime\prime}$ and total velocity resolution including thermal broadening of $\sim5$km/s. This makes it possible to compare the kinematics of individual star-forming clumps and molecular clouds in the three dimensions of space and velocity, and allows us to determine star formation efficiencies. The kinematics of the ionized gas confirm that the starburst contains multiple dense clusters. From t…
The presence of blue cores in some dwarf early-type galaxies (dEs) in galaxy clusters suggests the scenario of late-type galaxy infall and subsequent transformation into red, quiescent dEs. We present Gemini Multi-Object Spectrographs long-slit spectroscopy of two dEs with blue cores (dE(bc)s), EVCC 591 and EVCC 516, located at the core and outskirt of the Virgo cluster, respectively. We obtained their internal kinematics along the major axis out to, at least, ~ 1 effective radius. EVCC 591 shows evidence of a kinematically decoupled core (KDC) with a size of 2" (160 pc), exhibiting an inverte…
We measured the X-ray fluxes from an optically-selected sample of blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCDs) with metallicities <0.07 and solar distances less than 15 Mpc. Four X-ray point sources were observed in three galaxies, with five galaxies having no detectable X-ray emission. Comparing X-ray luminosity and star formation rate, we find that the total X-ray luminosity of the sample is more than 10 times greater than expected if X-ray luminosity scales with star formation rate according to the relation found for normal-metallicity star-forming galaxies. However, due to the low number of sources …
We present WFC3 observations of three low surface brightness (LSB) galaxies from the Schombert et. al LSB catalog that are within 11 Mpc of the Milky Way. Deep imaging at F336W, F555W and F814W allow the construction of the V-I color-magnitude diagrams (CMD) to M_I = -2. Overall 1869, 465 and 501 stellar sources are identified in the three LSB galaxies F415-3, F608-1 and F750-V1. The spatial distribution of young blue stars matches the H-alpha maps from ground-based imaging, indicating that star formation in LSB galaxies follows the same style as in other irregular galaxies. Several star compl…
Recent discoveries of bimodal main sequences (MSs) associated with young clusters (with ages $\lesssim 1$ Gyr) in the Magellanic Clouds have drawn a lot of attention. One of the prevailing formation scenarios attributes these split MSs to a bimodal distribution in stellar rotation rates, with most stars belonging to a rapidly rotating population. In this scenario, only a small fraction of stars populating a secondary blue sequence are slowly or non-rotating stars. Here, we focus on the blue MS in the young cluster NGC 1850. We compare the cumulative number fraction of the observed blue-MS star…
How elliptical galaxies form is a key question in observational cosmology. While the formation of massive ellipticals is strongly linked to mergers, the low mass (Mstar < 10^9.5 MSun) regime remains less well explored. In particular, studying elliptical populations when they are blue, and therefore rapidly building stellar mass, offers strong constraints on their formation. Here, we study 108 blue, low-mass ellipticals (which have a median stellar mass of 10^8.7 MSun) at z < 0.3 in the COSMOS field. Visual inspection of extremely deep optical HSC images indicates that less than 3 per cent of t…
With the aim of exploring the fast evolutionary path from the blue cloud of star-forming galaxies to the red sequence of quiescent galaxies in the local universe, we select a local advanced merging infrared luminous and ultraluminous galaxy (adv-merger (U)LIRGs) sample and perform careful dust extinction corrections to investigate their positions in the SFR-$M_{\ast}$, u-r and NUV-r color-mass diagrams. The sample consists of 89 (U)LIRGs at the late merger stage, obtained from cross-correlating the IRAS Point Source Catalog Redshift Survey and 1 Jy ULIRGs samples with the Sloan Digital Sky Sur…
Elliptical galaxies with blue optical colours and significant star formation are hypothesised to be major merger remnants of gas-rich spiral galaxies or normal elliptical galaxies with a sudden burst of star formation. We present here a scenario in which blue elliptical galaxies identified in shallow imaging surveys may fail to recover faint features that are indicative of past merger activity using a nearby major merger remnant. Based on deep optical imaging data of the post-merger galaxy, NGC 7252, we demonstrate that the galaxy can appear as an elliptical galaxy if it is observed at higher …

To investigate the mass dependence of structural transformation and star formation quenching, we construct three galaxy samples using massive ($M_* > 10^{10} M_{\odot}$) red, green, and blue galaxy populations at $0.5<z<2.5$ in five 3D--{\it HST}/CANDELS fields. The structural parameters, including effective radius ($r_{\rm e}$), galaxy compactness ($Σ_{1.5}$), and second order moment of 20\% brightest pixels ($M_{20}$) are found to be correlated with stellar mass. Sérsic index ($n$), concentration ($C$), and Gini coefficient ($G$) seem to be insensitive to stellar mass. The morphological dist…

We analyzed both HCN J=1-0 and HNC J=1-0 line profiles to study the inflow motions in different evolutionary stages of massive star formation: 54 infrared dark clouds (IRDCs), 69 high-mass protostellar object (HMPOs), and 54 ultra-compact HII regions (UCHIIs). The inflow asymmetry in HCN spectra seems to be prevalent throughout all the three evolutionary phases, with IRDCs showing the largest excess in blue profile. In the case of HNC spectra, the prevalence of blue sources does not appear, excepting for IRDCs. We suggest that this line is not appropriate to trace inflow motion in evolved stag…
Hub-filament systems are suggested to be birth cradles of high-mass stars and clusters, but the formation of hub-filament structure is still unclear. Using the survey data FUGIN $^{13}$CO (1-0), C$^{18}$O (1-0), and SEDIGISM $^{13}$CO (2-1), we investigate formation of hub-filament structure in W33 complex. W33 complex consists of two colliding clouds, called W33-blue and W33-red. We decompose the velocity structures in W33-blue by fitting multiple velocity components, and find a continuous and monotonic velocity field. Virial parameters of Dendrogram structures suggest the dominance of gravit…
X-rays from binaries in small, metal-deficient galaxies may have contributed significantly to the heating and reionization of the early universe. We investigate this claim by studying blue compact dwarfs (BCDs) as local analogues to these early galaxies. We constrain the relation of the X-ray luminosity function (XLF) to the star-formation rate (SFR) using a Bayesian approach applied to a sample of 25 BCDs. The functional form of the XLF is fixed to that found for near-solar metallicity galaxies and is used to find the probability distribution of the normalisation that relates X-ray luminosity…
A fly-by interaction has been suggested to be one of the major explanations for enhanced star formation in blue compact dwarf (BCD) galaxies, yet no direct evidence for this scenario has been found to date. In the HI Parkes all-sky survey (HIPASS), ESO 435-IG 020 and ESO 435- G 016, a BCD pair were found in a common, extended gas envelope of atomic hydrogen, providing an ideal case to test the hypothesis that the starburst in BCDs can be indeed triggered by a fly-by interaction. Using high-resolution data from the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), we investigated HI properties and the …
To understand the formation and quenching processes of local massive red spiral galaxies with $M_{\ast} > 10^{10.5}M_{\odot}$, we perform a statistical analysis of their spectroscopic and structural properties, and compare them with elliptical and blue spiral galaxies of similar mass. The sample was selected from the stellar mass catalog of galaxies in SDSS DR7, according to their locations on the u-r color-stellar mass diagram. We find that red spirals harbor compact cores with high stellar mass surface densities measured by $Σ_1$ and they are bulge-dominated. Particularly, the red spirals, e…
Luminous Compact Blue Galaxies (LCBGs) are an extreme star-bursting population of galaxies that were far more common at earlier epochs than today. Based on spectroscopic and photometric measurements of LCBGs in massive (M >10^15 M_sun), intermediate redshift (0.5 < z < 0.9) galaxy clusters, we present their rest-frame properties including star-formation rate, dynamical mass, size, luminosity, and metallicity. The appearance of these small, compact galaxies in clusters at intermediate redshift helps explain the observed redshift evolution in the size-luminosity relationship among cluster galaxi…
We measure the mass growth rate by merging for a wide range of galaxy types. We present the small-scale (0.014 < r < 11 h70^{-1} Mpc) projected cross-correlation functions w(rp) of galaxy subsamples from the spectroscopic sample of the NYU VAGC (5 \times 10^5 galaxies of redshifts 0.03 < z < 0.15) with galaxy subsamples from the SDSS imaging (4 \times 10^7 galaxies). We use smooth fits to de-project the two-dimensional functions w(rp) to obtain smooth three-dimensional real-space cross-correlation functions ξ(r) for each of several spectroscopic subsamples with each of several imaging subsampl…
For a sample of 38 Galactic globular clusters (GCs), we confront the observed distributions of blue straggler (BS) proper motions and masses (derived from isochrone fitting) from the BS catalog of Simunovic & Puzia with theoretical predictions for each of the two main competing BS formation mechanisms. These are mass transfer from an evolved donor on to a main-sequence (MS) star in a close binary system, and direct collisions involving MS stars during binary encounters. We use the \texttt{FEWBODY} code to perform simulations of single-binary and binary-binary interactions. This provides collis…
We have studied a sample of 89 very isolated, elliptical galaxies at z < 0.08 and compared their properties with elliptical galaxies located in a high-density environment such as the Coma supercluster. Our aim is to probe the role of environment on the morphological transformation and quenching of elliptical galaxies as a function of mass. In addition, we elucidate the nature of a particular set of blue and star-forming isolated ellipticals identified here. We study physical properties of ellipticals such as color, specific star formation rate, galaxy size, and stellar age, as a function of st…
While observations of large-scale structure and the cosmic microwave background (CMB) provide strong constraints on the amplitude of the primordial power spectrum (PPS) on scales larger than 10~Mpc, the amplitude of the power spectrum on sub-galactic length scales is much more poorly constrained. We study early structure formation in a cosmological model with a blue-tilted PPS. We assume that the standard scale-invariant PPS is modified at small length scales as $P(k) \sim k^{m_{\rm s}}$ with $m_{\rm s} > 1$. We run a series of cosmological hydrodynamic simulations to examine the dependence of…
We have investigated the radial g-r color gradients of early-type galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) DR6 in the redshift range 0.00<z<0.06. The majority of massive early-type galaxies show a negative color gradient (red-cored) as generally expected for early-type galaxies. On the other hand, roughly 30 per cent of the galaxies in this sample show a positive color gradient (blue-cored). These "blue-cored" galaxies often show strong H beta absorption line strengths and/or emission line ratios that are indicative of the presence of young stellar populations. Combining the optical dat…
Although the formation of blue straggler stars (BSSs) is routinely attributed to stellar interactions in binary systems, the relative importance of the direct collision and slow(er) stellar coalescence formation channels is still poorly understood. We selected a sample of 24 Magellanic Cloud star clusters for which multi-passband Hubble Space Telescope images are available to address this outstanding question. We compiled a BSS database, containing both traditional and evolved BSSs. We found a robust correlation between the number of BSSs in a cluster's core and its core mass, $N_{\rm BSS, cor…
Blue straggler stars (BSSs) are the most massive stars in a cluster formed via binary or higher-order stellar interactions. Though the exact nature of such formation scenarios is difficult to pin down, we provide observational constraints on the different possible mechanism. In this quest, we first produce a catalogue of BSSs using Gaia DR2 data. Among the 670 clusters older than 300 Myr, we identified 868 BSSs in 228 clusters and 500 BSS candidates in 208 clusters. In general, all clusters older than 1 Gyr and massive than 1000 Msun have BSSs. The average number of BSSs increases with cluster…
We investigated the typical environment and physical properties of "red discs" and "blue bulges", comparing those to the "normal" objects in the blue cloud and red sequence. Our sample is composed of cluster members and field galaxies at $z \le 0.1$, so that we can assess the impact of the local and global environment. We find that disc galaxies display a strong dependence on environment, becoming redder for higher densities. This effect is more pronounced for objects within the virial radius, being also strong related to the stellar mass. We find that local and global environment affect galax…
We present the results from a search for HI emission from a sample of newly discovered dwarf galaxies in the M81 group. HI is detected in three galaxies, all of which are classified as BCDs. The HI masses of these galaxies are ~ 10^6 M_sun, making these some of the lowest mass BCDs known. For these three galaxies FUV images (from GALEX) and H-alpha images (from the Russian 6m BTA telescope) are available. The H-alpha emission is very faint, and, in principle could be produced by a single O star. Further, in all cases we find offsets between the peak of the FUV emission and that of the H-alpha e…

We investigate observational signatures of triggered star formation in bright rimmed clouds (BRCs) by using molecular line transfer calculations based on radiation-hydrodynamic radiatively-driven-implosion models. We find that for BRCs the separation in velocity between the line profile peak of an optically thick and an optically thin line is determined by both the observer viewing angle and the density of the shell driving into the cloud. In agreement with observations, we find that most BRC line profiles are symmetric and that asymmetries can be either red or blue, in contrast to the blue-do…
We present a homogeneous study of blue straggler stars across ten outer halo globular clusters, three classical dwarf spheroidal and nine ultra-faint galaxies based on deep and wide-field photometric data taken with MegaCam on the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope. We find blue straggler stars to be ubiquitous among these Milky Way satellites. Based on these data, we can test the importance of primordial binaries or multiple systems on blue straggler star formation in low density environments. For the outer halo globular clusters we find an anti-correlation between the specific frequency of blue …
Among the most striking feature of blue straggler stars (BSS) is the presence of multiple sequences of BSSs in the colour-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) of several globular clusters. It is often envisaged that such a multiple BSS sequence would arise due a recent core collapse of the host cluster, triggering a number of stellar collisions and binary mass transfers simultaneously over a brief episode of time. Here we examine this scenario using direct N-body computations of moderately massive star clusters (of order 10^4 Msun ). As a preliminary attempt, these models are initiated with approx. 8-10 …
