A possible mechanism for the formation of heavy-mass elements in supernovae is the rapid neutron-capture-mechanism (r-process). It depends upon the electron-fraction $Y_e$, a quantity which is determined by beta-decay-rates. In this paper, we focus on the calculation of electroweak decay-rates in presence of massive neutrinos. The resulting expressions are then used to calculate nuclear reactions entering the rapid-neutron capture. We fix the astrophysical parameters to the case of a core-collapse supernova. The neutrino sector includes a mass scheme and mixing angles for active neutrinos, and also by including the mixing between active and sterile neutrinos. The results of the calculations show that the predicted abundances of heavy-mass nuclei are indeed affected by the neutrino mixing.
We propose to study the mass spectrum of the heavy-light mesons to probe the structure of the spin-isospin correlation in the nuclear medium. We point out that the spin-isospin correlation in the nuclear medium generates a mixing among the heavy-light mesons carrying different spins and isospins such as $D^+$, $D^0$, $D^{\ast +}$, and $D^{\ast 0}$ mesons. We use two types of correlations motivated by the skyrmion crystal and the chiral density wave as typical examples to obtain the mass splitting caused by the mixing. Our result shows that the structure of the mixing reflects the pattern of th…
It is known that the decay process η\rightarrowπ^0π^+π^- in free space is possible due to the isospin-symmetry breaking in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), i.e., the small mass difference between u and d quarks: The small width is intimately related with the mixing property between ηand π^0 mesons for which the chiral anomaly play a role. In asymmetric nuclear matter such as heavy nuclei, isospin-symmetry breaking is large and it is expected that the mixing property of the mesons changes significantly and the above-mentioned decay width of the ηcreated in such a medium may be enhanced. This is an…
We have studied nuclear medium effects in the weak structure functions $F^A_2(x)$ and $F^A_3(x)$ and in the extraction of weak mixing angle using Paschos Wolfenstein(PW) relation. We have modified the PW relation for nonisoscalar nuclear target. We have incorporated the medium effects like Pauli blocking, Fermi motion, nuclear binding energy, nucleon correlations, pion $\&$ rho cloud contributions, and shadowing and antishadowing effects.
On the basis of the idea of mixing (interaction) between the electron capture and the positron emission channels in the β^+ decay in the cases when both channels are energetically allowed, we attempt to explain oscillations of the K-capture rates that were possibly seen in the recent experiment.
The results of systematic calculations of isospin-symmetry-breaking corrections to superallowed beta-decays based on the self-consistent isospin- and angular-momentum-projected nuclear density functional theory (DFT) are reviewed with an emphasis on theoretical uncertainties of the model. Extensions of the formalism towards no core shell model approach with basis cutoff scheme dictated by the self-consistent particle-hole DFT solutions will be also discussed.
Using the new results on coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering data in cesium-iodide provided by the COHERENT experiment, we determine a new measurement of the average neutron rms radius of $^{133}\text{Cs}$ and $^{127}\text{I}$. In combination with the atomic parity violation (APV) experimental result, we derive the most precise measurement of the neutron rms radii of $^{133}\text{Cs}$ and $^{127}\text{I}$, disentangling for the first time the contributions of the two nuclei. By exploiting these measurements we determine the corresponding neutron skin values for $^{133}\text{Cs}$ and $…

We investigate the structure of $^{18}$F with the microscopic wave function based on the three-body $^{16}$O+$p$+$n$ model. In the calculation of the generator coordinate method (GCM) of the three-body model, $T=0$ energy spectra of $J^π=1^+$, $3^+$, and $5^+$ states and $T=1$ spectra of $J^π=0^+$, $2^+$ states in $^{18}$F are described reasonably. Based on the dinucleon picture, the effect of the spin-orbit force on the $T=0$ and $T=1$ $pn$ pairs around the $^{16}$O core is discussed. The $T=1$ pair in the $J^π=0^+$ state gains the spin-orbit potential energy involving the odd-parity mixing i…
We calculate nuclear suppression $R_{AA}$ of heavy quarks produced from the initial fusion of partons in nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. We take the shadowing as well as the energy loss suffered by them while passing through Quark Gluon Plasma into account. We obtain results for charm and bottom quarks at several rapidities using different mechanisms for energy loss, to see if we can distinguish between them.
We reexamine effects of the $ρ-ω$ meson mixing mediated by nucleon polarizations on the symmetry energy in isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter. Taking into account the rearrangement term neglected in previous studies by others, we evaluate the $ρ-ω$ mixing angle in a novel way within the Relativistic Mean-Field Models with and without chiral limits. It is found that the symmetry energy is significantly softened at high densities contrary to the finding in earlier studies. As the first step of going beyond the lowest-order calculations, we also solve the RPA equation for the $ρ-ω$ mixing. In this…
Using the relativistic mean-field model with nonlinear couplings between the isoscalar and isovector mesons, we study the properties of isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter. Not only the vector mixing, $ω_μω^μ\mathbfρ_ν\mathbfρ^ν$, but also the quartic interaction due to the scalar mesons, $σ^{2}\mathbfδ^{2}$, is taken into account to investigate the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy, $E_{\rm sym}$, and the neutron-star properties. It is found that the $δ$ meson increases $E_{\rm sym}$ at high densities, whereas the $σ$-$δ$ mixing makes $E_{\rm sym}$ soft above the saturation density.…
Background: The Po, Pb, Hg, and Pt region is known for the presence of coexisting structures that correspond to different particle-hole configurations in the Shell Model language or equivalently to nuclear shapes with different deformation. Purpose: We intend to study the configuration mixing phenomenon in the Hg isotopes and to understand how different observables are influenced by it. Method: We study in detail a long chain of mercury isotopes, $^{172-200}$Hg, using the interacting boson model with configuration mixing. The parameters of the Hamiltonians are fixed through a least square fit …
The influence of nuclear isospin mixing on parity-violating elastic electron scattering is studied for the even-even, N=Z nuclei 12C, 24Mg, 28Si, and 32S. Their ground-state wave functions have been obtained using a self-consistent axially-symmetric mean-field approximation with density-dependent effective two-body Skyrme interactions. Some differences from previous shell-model calculations appear for the isovector Coulomb form factors which play a role in determining the parity-violating asymmetry. To gain an understanding of how these differences arise, the results have been expanded in a sp…
We study the possible impact of nuclear effects and final state interactions on the determination of the oscillation parameters due to mis-reconstruction of non-quasi-elastic events as quasi-elastic events at low energies. We analyze a $ν_μ$ disappearance experiment using a water Čerenkov detector. We find that, if completely ignored in the fit, nuclear effects can induce a significant bias in the determination of atmospheric oscillation parameters, particularly for the atmospheric mixing angle. Even after inclusion of a near detector a bias in the determination of the atmospheric mixing angle…
To discuss a possible observation of large-amplitude nuclear shape mixing by nuclear reaction, we employ a simple collective model and evaluate transition densities, with which the differential cross sections are obtained through the microscopic coupled-channel calculation. Assuming the spherical-to-prolate shape transition, we focus on large-amplitude shape mixing associated with the softness of the collective potential in the $β$ direction. We introduce a simple model based on the five-dimensional quadrupole collective Hamiltonian, which simulates a chain of isotopes that exhibit spherical-t…
The variational multiparticle-multihole configuration mixing approach (MPMH) to nuclei has been proposed about a decade ago. While the first applications followed rapidly, the implementation of the full formalism of this method has only been recently completed and applied in [C. Robin, N. Pillet, D. Peña Arteaga and J.-F. Berger, Phys. Rev. C 93, 024302 (2016)] to $^{12}$C as a test-case. The main objective of the present paper is to carry on the study that was initiated in that reference, in order to put the MPMH method to more stringent tests. To that aim we perform a systematic study of eve…
Background: The isospin mixing is an interesting feature of atomic nuclei. It plays a crucial role in astrophysical nuclear reactions. However, it is not straightforward for variational nuclear structure models to describe it. Purpose: We propose a tractable method to describe the isospin mixing within a framework of the generator coordinate method and demonstrate its usability. Method: We generate the basis wave functions by applying the Fermi transition operator to the wave functions of isobars. The superposition of these basis wave functions and variationally obtained wave functions quantit…
