We study semiclassical states of the nonlinear Dirac equation \[
-i\hbar\partial_tψ= ic\hbar\sum_{k=1}^3α_k\partial_kψ- mc^2βψ- M(x)ψ+ f(|ψ|)ψ,\quad t\in\mathbb{R},\ x\in\mathbb{R}^3, \] where $V$ is a bounded continuous potential function and the nonlinear term $f(|ψ|)ψ$ is superlinear, possibly of critical growth. Our main result deals with standing wave solutions that concentrate near a critical point of the potential. Standard methods applicable to nonlinear Schrödinger equations, like Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction or penalization, do not work, not even for the homogeneous nonlinearity $f(s)=s^p$. We develop a variational method for the strongly indefinite functional associated to the problem.
In this paper, we are concerned with semiclassical states to the following Sobolev critical Dirac equation with degenerate potential, \begin{align*} -\textnormal{i} \eps α\cdot \nabla u + a βu + V(x) u=|u|^{q-2} u + |u| u \quad \mbox{in} \,\, \R^3, \end{align*} where $u:\mathbb{R}^3\rightarrow \mathbb{C}^4$, $2<q<3$, $\eps>0$ is a small parameter, $a>0$ is a constant, $α=(α_1, α_2, α_3)$, $α_j$ and $β$ are $4 \times 4$ Pauli-Dirac matrices. We construct an infinite sequence of higher topological type semiclassical states with higher energies concentrating around the local minimum points of the…
We study the coupled system of Maxwell and Dirac equations from a semiclassical point of view. A rigorous nonlinear WKB-analysis, locally in time, for solutions of (critical) order $O(\sqrtε)$ is performed, where the small semiclassical parameter $ε$ denotes the microscopic/macroscopic scale ratio.
In this paper, we consider the Hamiltonian elliptic system in dimension two\begin{equation}\label{1.5}\aligned \left\{ \begin{array}{lll} -ε^2Δu+V(x)u=g(v)\ & \text{in}\quad \mathbb{R}^2,\\ -ε^2Δv+V(x)v=f(u)\ & \text{in}\quad \mathbb{R}^2, \end{array}\right.\endaligned \end{equation} where $V\in C(\mathbb{R}^2)$ has local minimum points, and $f,g\in C^1(\mathbb{R})$ are assumed to be either superlinear or asymptotically linear at infinity and of subcritical exponential growth in the sense of Trudinger-Moser inequality. Under only a local condition on $V$, we obtain a family of semiclassical st…
We study the existence of quantum resonances of the three-dimensional semiclassical Dirac operator perturbed by smooth, bounded and real-valued scalar potentials $V$ decaying like $\langle x \rangle ^{-\d}$ at infinity for some $\d >0$. By studying analytic singularities of a certain distribution related to $V$ and by combining two trace formulas, we prove that the perturbed Dirac operators possess resonances near $\sup V + 1$ and $\inf V -1$. We also provide a lower bound for the number of resonances near these points expressed in terms of the semiclassical parameter.
The Complex Absorbing Potential (CAP) method is widely used to compute resonances in Quantum Chemistry, both for nonrelativistic and relativistic Hamiltonians. In the semiclassical limit $\hbar \to 0$ we consider resonances near the real axis and we establish the CAP method rigorously for the perturbed Dirac operator by proving that individual resonances are perturbed eigenvalues of the nonselfadjoint CAP Hamiltonian, and vice versa. The proofs are based on pseudodifferential operator theory and microlocal analysis.
We consider the stationary solutions for a class of Schroedinger equations with a symmetric double-well potential and a nonlinear perturbation. Here, in the semiclassical limit we prove that the reduction to a finite-mode approximation give the stationary solutions, up to an exponentially small term, and that symmetry-breaking bifurcation occurs at a given value for the strength of the nonlinear term. The kind of bifurcation picture only depends on the non-linearity power. We then discuss the stability/instability properties of each branch of the stationary solutions. Finally, we consider an e…
We consider the semiclassical limit of nonlinear Schrödinger equations with wavepacket initial data. We recover the Wigner measure of the problem, a macroscopic phase-space density which controls the propagation of the physical observables such as mass, energy and momentum. Wigner measures have been used to create effective models for wave propagation in random media, quantum molecular dynamics, mean field limits, and the propagation of electrons in graphene. In nonlinear settings, the Vlasov-type equations obtained for the Wigner measure are often ill-posed on the physically interesting space…
I derive sharp semiclassical asymptotics of $\int |e_h(x,y,0)|^2ω(x,y) dx dy$ where $e_h(x,y,τ)$ is the Schwartz kernel of the spectral projector and $ω(x,y)$ is singular as $x=y$. I also consider asymptotics of more general expressions.
I derive sharp semiclassical asymptotics of \int |e_h(x,y,0)|^2ω(x,y)dxdy where e_h(x,y,τ) is the Schwartz kernel of the spectral projector of Magnetic Schroedinger operator and ω(x,y) is singular as x=y. I also consider asymptotics of more general expressions.
We prove the existence of infinitely many non square-integrable stationary solutions for a family of massless Dirac equations in 2D. They appear as effective equations in two dimensional honeycomb structures. We give a direct existence proof thanks to a particular radial ansatz, which also allows to provide the exact asymptotic behavior of spinor components. Moreover, those solutions admit a variational characterization. We also indicate how the content of the present paper allows to extend our previous results for the massive case [5] to more general nonlinearities.
In this paper we study the nonlinear Dirac (NLD) equation on noncompact metric graphs with localized Kerr nonlinearities, in the case of Kirchhoff-type conditions at the vertices. Precisely, we discuss existence and multiplicity of the bound states (arising as critical points of the NLD action functional) and we prove that, in the $L^2$-subcritical case, they converge to the bound states of the NLS equation in the nonrelativistic limit.
We present a brief overview on the existence/nonexistence of standing waves for the NonLinear Schrödinger and the NonLinear Dirac Equations (NLSE/NLDE) on metric graphs with localized nonlinearity. We first focus on the NLSE, both in the subcritical and the critical case, and then on the NLDE, highlighting similarities and differences with the NLSE. Finally, we show how the two equations are related in the nonrelativistic limit, proving the convergence of bound states.
The internal control problem for the Kadomstev-Petviashvili II equation, known as KP-II, is the object of study in this paper. The controllability in $L^2(T)$ from vertical strip is proved using the Hilbert Unique Method through the techniques of semiclassical and microlocal analysis. Additionally, a negative result for the controllability in $L^2(T)$ from horizontal strip is also showed.
The defocusing Davey-Stewartson II equation has been shown in numerical experiments to exhibit behavior in the semiclassical limit that qualitatively resembles that of its one-dimensional reduction, the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation, namely the generation from smooth initial data of regular rapid oscillations occupying domains of space-time that become well-defined in the limit. As a first step to study this problem analytically using the inverse-scattering transform, we consider the direct spectral transform for the defocusing Davey-Stewartson II equation for smooth initial data i…
The present paper studies concentration phenomena of semiclassical approximation of a massive Dirac equation with general nonlinear self-coupling: \[ -i\hbarα\cdot\nabla w+aβw+V(x)w=g(|w|)w \,. \] Compared with some existing issues, the most interesting results obtained here are twofold: the solutions concentrating around local minima of the external potential; and the nonlinearities assumed to be either super-linear or asymptotically linear at the infinity. As a consequence one sees that, if there are $k$ bounded domains $Λ_j\subset\mathbb{R}^3$ such that $-a<\min_{Λ_j} V=V(x_j)<\min_{\partia…
