We address the optimal constants in the strong and the weak Stechkin inequalities, both in their discrete and continuous variants. These inequalities appear in the characterization of approximation spaces which arise from sparse approximation or have applications to interpolation theory. An elementary proof of a constant in the strong discrete Stechkin inequality given by Bennett is provided, and we improve the constants given by Levin and Stechkin and by Copson. Finally, the minimal constants in the weak discrete Stechkin inequalities and both continuous Stechkin inequalities are presented.
In the present work some Jackson Stechkin type direct theorems of trigonometric approximation are proved in Orlicz spaces with weights satisfying some Muckenhoupt's $A_{p}$ condition. To obtain refined version of the Jackson type inequality we prove an extrapolation theorem, Marcinkiewicz multiplier theorem and Littlewood Paley type results. As a consequence refined inverse Marchaud type inequalities are obtained. By means of a realization result we find an equivalence between the fractional order weighted modulus of smoothness and the classical weighted Peetre's K-functional.
In this paper we study approximation theorems for $L^2$-space on Damek-Ricci spaces. We prove direct Jackson theorem of approximations for the modulus of smoothness defined using spherical mean operator on Damek-Ricci spaces. We also prove Nikolskii-Stechkin inequality. To prove these inequalities we use functions of bounded spectrum as a tool of approximation. Finally, as an application, we prove equivalence of the $K$-functional and modulus of smoothness for Damek-Ricci spaces.
In this paper the double-sided Taylor's approximations are studied. A short proof of a well-known theorem on the double-sided Taylor's approximations is introduced. Also, two new theorems are proved regarding the monotonicity of such approximations. Then we present some new applications of the double-sided Taylor's approximations in the theory of analytic inequalities.
In this article, we present weighted norm inequality for a fractional one-sided minimal function. We prove weighted weak and strong type norm inequalities for the one-sided minimal function on $\mathbb{R}.$ We construct two weight classes to ensure the sufficient and necessary part of the weak and strong type estimates. Later, we establish an equivalence relation between these two weight classes.
We give a quantitative characterization of the pairs of weights $(w,v)$ for which the dyadic version of the one-sided Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator satisfies a restricted weak $(p,p)$ type inequality, for $1\leq p<\infty$. More precisely, given any measurable set $E_0$ the estimate \[w(\{x\in \mathbb{R}^n: M^{+,d}(\mathcal{X}_{E_0})(x)>t\})\leq \frac{C[(w,v)]_{A_p^{+,d}(\mathcal{R})}^p}{t^p}v(E_0)\] holds if and only if the pair $(w,v)$ belongs to $A_p^{+,d}(\mathcal{R})$, that is \[\frac{|E|}{|Q|}\leq [(w,v)]_{A_p^{+,d}(\mathcal{R})}\left(\frac{v(E)}{w(Q)}\right)^{1/p}\] for every dyadic …
Present work contains a method to obtain Jackson and Stechkin type inequalities of approximation by integral functions of finite degree (IFFD) in some variable exponent Lebesgue space of real functions defined on $\boldsymbol{R}:=\left( -\infty ,+\infty \right) $. To do this we employ a transference theorem which produce norm inequalities starting from norm inequalities in $\mathcal{C}(\boldsymbol{R})$, the class of bounded uniformly continuous functions defined on $\boldsymbol{R}$. Let $B\subseteq \boldsymbol{R}$ be a measurable set, $p\left( x\right) :B\rightarrow \lbrack 1,\infty )$ be a me…
The current status concerning Hardy-type inequalities with sharp constants is presented and described in a unified convexity way. In particular, it is then natural to replace the Lebesgue measure $dx$ with the Haar measure $dx/x.$ There are also derived some new two-sided Hardy-type inequalities for monotone functions, where not only the two constants are sharp but also where the involved function spaces are (more) optimal. As applications, a number of both well-known and new Hardy-type inequalities are pointed out. And, in turn, these results are used to derive some new sharp information conc…
Moduli of continuity and average decay of Fourier transforms: two-sided estimates
We study the behaviour of the smallest possible constants $d_n$ and $c_n$ in Hardy's inequalities $$ \sum_{k=1}^{n}\Big(\frac{1}{k}\sum_{j=1}^{k}a_j\Big)^2\leq d_n\,\sum_{k=1}^{n}a_k^2, \qquad (a_1,\ldots,a_n) \in \mathbb{R}^n $$ and $$ \int_{0}^{\infty}\Bigg(\frac{1}{x}\int\limits_{0}^{x}f(t)\,dt\Bigg)^2 dx \leq c_n \int_{0}^{\infty} f^2(x)\,dx, \ \ f\in \mathcal{H}_n, $$ for the finite dimensional spaces $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $\mathcal{H}_n:=\{f\,:\, \int_0^x f(t) dt =e^{-x/2}\,p(x)\ :\ p\in \mathcal{P}_n, p(0)=0\}$, where $\mathcal{P}_n$ is the set of real-valued algebraic polynomials of degre…
