It has been shown by Bañados, Silk and West (BSW) that the center of mass energy (E_cm) of test particles starting from rest at infinity and colliding near the horizon of a Schwarzschild black hole is always finite. In this communication, we extent the BSW scenario and study two particles with different energies colliding near the horizon of a static spherically symmetric black hole. Surprisingly, we find that even for the static spherically symmetric (i.e., Schwarzschild like) black holes it is possible to obtain an arbitrarily high E cm from the two test particles colliding near the horizon of a black hole, if one fine-tunes the parameters of geodesic motion.
We investigate the proper projective collineation in non-static spherically symmetric space-times using direct integration and algebraic techniques. Studying projective collineation in the above space-times, it is shown that the space-times which admit proper projective collineations turn out to be very special classes of static spherically symmetric space-times.
It is known that spherically symmetric static spacetimes admit a foliation by °at hypersurfaces. Such foliations have explicitly been constructed for some spacetimes, using different approaches, but none of them have proved or even discussed the uniqueness of these foliations. The issue of uniqueness becomes more important due to suitability of °at foliations for studying black hole physics. Here °at spherically symmetric spacelike hy- persurfaces are obtained by a direct method. It is found that spherically symmetric static spacetimes admit °at spherically symmetric hypersurfaces, and that th…
We derive matter collineations for some static spherically symmetric spacetimes and compare the results with Killing, Ricci and Curvature symmetries. We conclude that matter and Ricci collineations are not, in general, the same.
We have studied the properties of the static, spherically symmetric solution of Jordan, Brans-Dicke theory. An exact interior solution for standard space-time line element in the Schwarzschild form is obtained.
We categorize the global structure of spherically symmetric static solutions of Einstein SU(2) Yang Mills equations with positive cosmological constant that are smooth at the center of spherical symmetry.
We investigate solutions of Einstein field equations for the non-static spherically symmetric perfect fluid case using different equations of state. The properties of an exact spherically symmetric perfect fluid solutions are obtained which contain shear. We obtain three different solutions out of these one turns out to be an incoherent dust solution and the other two are stiff matter solutions.
There was obtained a numerical external solution for the exact system of the RTG equations with some natural boundary conditions in the static spherically symmetric case. The properties of the solution are discussed.
We have found some new exact static spherically symmetric interior solutions of metric $f(R)$ gravitational theories describing the equilibrium configuration of a star. Then the solution is matched to the exterior solution and thus gives a complete description of a star in $R^{1-n/2}$ theory.
Using tunnelling approach, Hawking radiation is derived for a general class of non-static spherically symmetric space time. The standard tunnelling rate formula is obtained using the unified first law of thermodynamics on the trapping horizon and Hawking temperature is measured by an Kodama observer inside the horizon.
An analitical approximation of $<ϕ^2>$ for a massive scalar field in a zero temperature vacuum state in static spherically symmetric spacetimes is obtained. The calculations are based on the method for computing vacuum expectations values for scalar fields in general static spherically symmetric spacetimes derived by Anderson, Hiscock and Samuel [Phys. Rev. D {\bf 51}, 4337 (1995)]. The analitical approximation is used to compute $<ϕ^2>$ in Schwarzschild and wormhole spacetimes.
We use Moeller's energy-momentum complex in order to explicitly compute the energy and momentum density distributions for an exact solution of Einstein's field equations with a negative cosmological constant minimally coupled to a static massless scalar field in a static, spherically symmetric background in (2+1)-dimensions.
We consider the interesting "near-horizon test" reported in (PRD84, 084006(2011), arXiv:1107.5727) for any static, spherically symmetric (SSS) black hole solution admitted in f(R) gravity. Before adopting the necessary conditions for the test, however, revisions are needed as we point out in this Comment.
A study of proper teleparallel conformal vector field in spherically symmetric static space-times is given using the direct integration technique and diagonal tetrads. In this study we show that the above space-times do not admit proper teleparallel conformal vector fields.
It is shown that for the spherically-symmetric and static systems the hypotheses posed by Yang and Radinschi and by Vagenas can be related to the particular distribution of the source. Simple proofs are given and a number of examples are discussed with the special emphasis put on the quantum corrected Schwarzschild black hole.
We consider the dynamical stability of a class of static, spherically-symmetric solutions of the nonsymmetric gravitational theory. We numerically reproduce the Wyman solution and generate new solutions for the case where the theory has a nontrivial fundamental length scale μ^{-1}. By considering spherically symmetric perturbations of these solutions we show that the Wyman solutions are generically unstable.
We consider static spherically symmetric solutions of the Einstein equations with cosmological constant coupled to the SU(2) Yang Mills equations. We prove that most solutions can be continued back to the origin of spherical symmetry and that the qualitative behavior of solutions near this origin does not depend on the value of the cosmological constant.
In this paper we analyze spherically symmetric static vacuum solutions with various topologies in mimetic gravity. When the Einstein's tensor is different from zero, a new class of solutions different from the Schwarzschild one emerges from the theory. We analyze the feature of the new solutions and we study the planar motion for the spherical case.
This work is concerned with the finiteness problem for static, spherically symmetric perfect fluids in both Newtonian Gravity and General Relativity. We derive criteria on the barotropic equation of state guaranteeing that the corresponding perfect fluid solutions possess finite/infinite extent. In the Newtonian case, for the large class of monotonic equations of state, and in General Relativity we improve earlier results.
An algorithm presented by K. Lake to obtain all static spherically symmetric perfect fluid solutions was recently extended by L. Herrera to the interesting case of locally anisotropic fluids (principal stresses unequal). In this work we develop an algorithm to construct all static spherically symmetric anisotropic solutions for general relativistic polytropes. Again the formalism requires the knowledge of only one function (instead of two) to generate all possible solutions. To illustrate the method some known cases are recovered.
We investigate non-minimal $R^βF^2$-type couplings of electromagnetic fields to gravity. We derive the field equations by a first order variational principle using the method of Lagrange multipliers. Then we present various static, spherically symmetric solutions describing the exterior fields in the vicinity of electrically charged massive bodies.
A definition of quantum singularity for the case of static spacetimes has recently been extended to conformally static spacetimes. Here the theory behind quantum singularities in conformally static spacetimes is reviewed, and then applied to a class of spherically symmetric, conformally static spacetimes, including as special cases those studied by Roberts, by Fonarev, and by Husain, Martinez, and Núñez. We use solutions of the generally coupled, massless Klein-Gordon equation as test fields. In this way we find the ranges of metric parameters and coupling coefficients for which classical time…
By studying the Hawking radiation of the most general static spherically symmetric black hole arising from scalar and Dirac particles tunnelling, we find the Hawking temperature is invariant in the general coordinate representation (\ref{arbitrary1}), which satisfies two conditions: a) its radial coordinate transformation is regular at the event horizon; and b) there is a time-like Killing vector.
We calculate the energy distribution in a static spherically symmetric nonsingular black hole space-time by using the Tolman's energy-momentum complex. All the calculations are performed in quasi-Cartesian coordinates. The energy distribution is positive everywhere and be equal to zero at origin. We get the same result as obtained by Y-Ching Yang by using the Einstein's and Weinberg's prescriptions.
We consider static spherically symmetric solutions of Einstein's equations coupled to an SU(2) Yang Mills field that are smooth at the center of spherical symmetry. We prove that with small cosmological constant there exist solutions that possess a coordinate singularity at some r that is not maximum. The singularity can be removed with a Kruskal-like change of coordinates.
The paper deals with static traversable wormhole having shape function a polynomial of the radial coordinate of degree 2. Embedding of the wormholes in space-time is examined both analytically and graphically. Also both timelike and null geodesics are studied in this wormhole geometry.
Spherically symmetric solutions admitting a homothetic Killing vector field (HKVF) either orthogonal, $η_{\bot}$, or parallel,$η_{||}$, to the 4-velocity vector field, $u^a$, are studied. New self-similar solution of Einstein's field equation is found in the case when HKVF is in a general form. Some physical properties of the obtained solution are examined.
An efficient approach to tensor perturbation calculations by proper use of computer algebra methods is described, reaching the sufficient generality required for a comprehensive analysis of the Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordstroem metric stability.
We present a counter example to a theorem given by Amir {\em et al.} J. Math. Phys. {\bf 35}, 3005 (1994). We also comment on a misleading statements of the same reference.
A relativistic particle in an attractive Coulomb field as well as a static and spherically symmetric gravitational field is studied. The gravitational field is treated perturbatively and the energy levels are obtained for both spin 0 (Klein-Gordon) and spin 1/2 (Dirac) particles. The results are shown to coincide with each other as well as the result of the nonrelativistic (Schrodinger) equation in the nonrelativistic limit.
The static black hole solutions to the Einstein-Maxwell equations are all spherically symmetric, as are many of the recently discovered black hole solutions in theories of gravity coupled to other forms of matter. However, counterexamples demonstrating that static black holes need not be spherically symmetric exist in theories, such as the standard electroweak model, with electrically charged massive vector fields. In such theories, a magnetically charged Reissner-Nordstrom solution with sufficiently small horizon radius is unstable against the development of a nonzero vector field outside the…
We investigate the problem of static and spherically symmetric solutions in the Starobinsky gravity model. By extending the Lichnerowicz and Israel theorems, William Nelson have demonstrated that the Schwarzschild solution is the unique static, spherically symmetric, and asymptotically flat black hole solution in the Starobinsky model. However, Hong L{ü} et al find that there are sign errors in the proof of Nelson. This raises the problem whether Nelson's proof is correct or not. In order to answer this question, we explore the corresponding solutions by using the Taylor series expansion metho…
The article generalizes the description of tidal forces to the case of geodesics with non-zero angular momentum in the metric of static spherically symmetric black holes. We show that the geodesic deviation equation can be diagonalized even with non-radial free motion of a test body in the gravitational field. We present expressions for the spatial components of the tidal force in a spherically symmetric metric. We also solve geodesic deviation equation in the Schwarzschild metric and demonstrate how the presence of angular momentum and its magnitude affect the solution.
The paper is concerned with the Einstein equations for a spherically symmetric static distribution of anisotropic matter. The equations are cast into a system of Fuchsian type ODE for certain scalar invariants of the strain. And then the existence and regularity of this ODE is studied under general constitutive relation. In the case the constitutive relation is given by a quadratic form of strain, it is also shown that the solutions stay regular up to the boundary of the material ball.
The Lagrangian derivation of the Equations of Motion for topological static spherically symmetric metrics in $\mathcal F (R,G)$-modified gravity is presented and the related solutions are discussed. In particular, a new topological solution for the model $\mathcal F (R,G)=R+\sqrt{G}$ is found. The black hole solutions and the First Law of thermodynamic are analyzed. Furthermore, the coupling with electromagnetic field is also considered and a Maxwell solution is derived.
This work deals with intersection points: conjugate points and cut points, of timelike geodesics emanating from a common initial point in special spacetimes. The paper contains three results. First, it is shown that radial timelike geodesics in static spherically symmetric spacetimes are globally maximal (have no cut points) in adequate domains. Second, in one of ultrastatic spherically symmetric spacetimes, Morris--Thorne wormhole, it is found which geodesics have cut points (and these must coincide with conjugate points) and which ones are globally maximal on their entire segments. This resu…
We investigate a static solution with spherical symmetry of a recently proposed field theory of gravitation. In this so-called NDL theory, matter interacts with gravity in accordance with the Weak Equivalence Principle, while gravitons have a nonlinear self-interaction. It is shown that the predictions of NDL agree with those of General Relativity in the three classic tests. However, there are potential differences in the strong-field limit, which we illustrate by proving that this theory does not allow the existence of static and spherically symmetric black holes.
For field equations of 4th order, following from a Lagrangian `Ricci scalar plus Weyl scalar', it is shown (using methods of non-standard analysis) that in a neighbourhood of Minkowski space there do not exist regular static spherically symmetric solutions. With that (besides the known local expansions about r = 0 and r = infinity resp.) for the first time a global statement on the existence of such solutions is given. Finally, this result will be discussed in connection with Einstein's particle programme.
The Einstein equations are integrated in the presence of two (incoming and outgoing) streams of null dust, under the assumptions of spherical symmetry and staticity. The solution is also written in double null and radiation coordinates and it is reinterpreted as an anisotropic fluid. Interior matching with a static fluid and exterior matching with the Vaidya solution along null hypersurfaces is discussed. The connection with two-dimensional dilaton gravity is established.
In this paper is discussed a class of static spherically symmetric solutions of the general relativistic elasticity equations. The main point of discussion is the comparison of two matter models given in terms of their stored energy functionals, i.e., the rule which gives the amount of energy stored in the system when it is deformed. Both functionals mimic (and for small deformations approximate) the classical Kirchhoff-St.Venant materials but differ in the strain variable used. We discuss the behavior of the systems for large deformations.
We study the renormalized stress-energy tensor (RSET) for static quantum states on (n+1)-dimensional, static, spherically symmetric black holes. By solving the conservation equations, we are able to write the stress-energy tensor in terms of a single unknown function of the radial co-ordinate, plus two arbitrary constants. Conditions for the stress-energy tensor to be regular at event horizons (including the extremal and ``ultra-extremal'' cases) are then derived using generalized Kruskal-like co-ordinates. These results should be useful for future calculations of the RSET for static quantum s…
The Einstein equations with small positive cosmological constant coupled to an SU(2) Yang Mills field admits solutions that possess a coordinate singularity at a noncritical radius. Here, we prove that these solutions are otherwise globally smooth and that they asymptotically approach Schwarzschild deSitter space with a vanishing Yang Mills field.
It is shown that among the four classes of the static spherically symmetric solution of the vacuum Brans-Dicke theory of gravity only two are really independent. Further by matching exterior and interior (due to physically reasonable spherically symmetric matter source) scalar fields it is found that only Brans class I solution with certain restriction on solution parameters may represent exterior metric for a nonsingular massive object. The physical viability of the black hole nature of the solution is investigated. It is concluded that no physical black hole solution different from the Schwa…
We consider static spherically symmetric stellar configurations in Palatini theories of gravity in which the Lagrangian is an unspecified function of the form f(R,R_{μν}R^{μν}). We obtain the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkov equations corresponding to this class of theories and show that they recover those of f(R) theories and General Relativity in the appropriate limits. We compute exterior vacuum solutions and comment on the possible expected modifications, as compared to GR, of the interior solutions.
We investigate the non-minimal couplings between the electromagnetic fields and gravity through the natural logarithm of the curvature scalar. After we give the Lagrangian formulation of the non-minimally coupled theory, we derive field equations by a first order variational principle using the method of Lagrange multipliers. We look at static, spherically symmetric solutions that are asymptotically flat. We discuss the nature of horizons for some candidate black hole solutions according to various values of the parameters $R_0 $ and $a_1$.
We prove that all spherically symmetric static spacetimes which are both regular at r=0 and satisfying the single energy condition rho + p_r + p_t >= 0 cannot contain any black hole region (equivalently, they must satisfy 2m/r <= 1 everywhere). This result holds even when the spacetime is allowed to contain a finite number of matching hypersurfaces. This theorem generalizes a result by Baumgarte and Rendall when the matter contents of the space-time is a perfect fluid and also complements their results in the general non-isotropic case.
In this paper we study static spherically symmetric wormhole solutions sustained by matter sources with isotropic pressure. We show that such spherical wormholes do not exist in the framework of zero-tidal-force wormholes. On the other hand, it is shown that for the often used power-law shape function there is no spherically symmetric traversable wormholes sustained by sources with a linear equation of state $p=ωρ$ for the isotropic pressure, independently of the form of the redshift function $ϕ(r)$. We consider a solution obtained by Tolman at 1939 for describing static spheres of isotropic f…
Static, spherically symmetric solutions of the Yang-Mills-Dilaton theory are studied. It is shown that these solutions fall into three different classes. The generic solutions are singular. Besides there is a discrete set of globally regular solutions further distinguished by the number of nodes of their Yang-Mills potential. The third class consists of oscillating solutions playing the role of limits of regular solutions, when the number of nodes tends to infinity. We show that all three sets of solutions are non-empty. Furthermore we give asymptotic formulae for the parameters of regular sol…
The static spherically symmetric solution for (R +- μ^4/R) model of f(R)gravity is investigated. We obtain the metric for space-time in the solar system that reduces to the Schwarzschild metric, when μ tends to zero. For the obtained metric, the deviation from Einstein gravity is very small. This result is different from the other results have been obtained by equivalence between f(R) gravity and scalar tensor theory. Also it is shown that the vacuum solution in the solar system depends on the shape of matter distribution which differ from the Einstein's gravity.
In Schwarzschild spacetime the value $r=3m$ of the radius coordinate is characterized by three different properties: (a) there is a ``light sphere'', (b) there is ``centrifugal force reversal'', (c) it is the upper limiting radius for a non-transparent Schwarschild source to act as a gravitational lens that produces infinitely many images. In this paper we prove a theorem to the effect that these three properties are intimately related in {\em any} spherically symmetric static spacetime. We illustrate the general results with some examples including black-hole spacetimes and Morris-Thorne worm…
In this paper, we evaluated the quasinormal modes of electromagnetic perturbation in a Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by the static spherically symmetric quintessence by using the third-order WKB approximation when the quintessential state parameter $ w_{q}$ in the range of $-1/3<w_{q}<0$. Due to the presence of quintessence, Maxwell field damps more slowly. And when at $-1<w_{q}<-1/3$, it is similar to the black hole solution in the ds/Ads spacetime. The appropriate boundary conditions need to be modified.
The hierarchies of both Lovelock gravity and power-Yang-Mills field are combined through gravity in a single theory. In static, spherically symmetric ansatz exact particular integrals are obtained in all higher dimensions. The advantage of such hierarchies is the possibility of choosing coefficients, which are arbitrary otherwise, to cast solutions into tractable forms. To our knowledge the solutions constitute the most general spherically symmetric metrics that incorporate complexities both of Lovelock and Yang-Mills hierarchies within the common context. A large portion of our general class …
We consider singularities of static spherically symmetric objects in minimal dilatonic gravity. They are only partially studied and purely understood even in the simplest models of extended gravity. We introduce the proper form of the structure equations and derive a set of all singularities, which turn to form several types of sub-manifolds of the phase space. We also introduce for the first time the Lyapunov function for the corresponding system, its equation, and its basic properties. The dependence on the mass of the dark scalar is discussed.
We give a complete classification of all static, spherically symmetric solutions of the SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills theory with a positive cosmological constant. Our classification proceeds in two steps. We first extend solutions of the radial field equations to their maximal interval of existence. In a second step we determine the Carter-Penrose diagrams of all 4-dimensional space-times constructible from such radial pieces. Based on numerical studies we sketch a complete phase space picture of all solutions with a regular origin.
We describe a method to analyze causal geodesics in static and spherically symmetric spacetimes of Kerr-Schild form which, in particular, allows for a detailed study of the geodesics in the vicinity of the central singularity by means of a regularization procedure based on a generalization of the McGehee regularization for the motion of Newtonian point particles moving in a power-law potential. The McGehee regularization was used by Belbruno and Pretorius to perform a dynamical system regularization of the central singularity of the motion of massless test particles in the Schwarzschild spacet…
In this paper, we will consider a subclass of models of Horndeski theories of gravity and we will check for several Static Spherically Symmetric solutions. We will find a model which admits an exact black hole solution and we will study its thermodynamics by using the Euclidean Action. We will see that, in analogy with the case of General Relativity, the integration constant of the solution can be identified with the mass of the black hole itself. Other solutions will be discussed, by posing a special attention on the possibility of reproducing the observed profiles of the rotation curves of g…
