Combination frequencies are not solutions of the perturbed stellar structure equations. In dense power spectra from a light curve of a given multi-periodic pulsating star, they can compromise the mode identification in an asteroseismic analysis, hence they must be treated as spurious frequencies and conveniently removed. In this paper, a method based on fitting the set of frequencies that best describe a general non-linear model, like the Volterra series, is presented. The method allows to extract these frequencies from the power spectrum, so helping to improve the frequency analysis enabling hidden frequencies to emerge from the initially considered as noise. Moreover, the method yields frequencies with uncertainties several orders of magnitude smaller than the Rayleigh dispersion, usually taken as the present error in a standard frequency analysis. Furthermore, it is compatible with the classical counting cycles method, the so-called O-C method, which is valid only for mono-periodic stars. The method opens the possibility to characterise the non-linear behaviour of a given pulsating star by studying in detail the complex generalised transfer functions.
We present the results of complex seismic modelling of the Slowly Pulsating B-type star HD74560. The star pulsates in five frequencies detected in photometric observations. For all these frequencies, we identify the mode degree, $\ell$. For two of them, found also in spectroscopic data, we are able to derived the empirical values of the complex nonadiabatic parameter $f$. We test effects of chemical composition and opacity data. Our results show that the properties of seismic models of SPB stars differ significantly from those of the more massive $β$ Cephei stars.
We present results on the second-faintest pulsating subdwarf B (sdB) star known, RAT J0455+1305, derived from photometric data obtained in 2009. It shows both short and long periods oscillations, theoretically assigned as pressure and gravity modes. We identify six short-period frequencies (with one being a combination) and six long-period frequencies. This star is the fourth hybrid sdB star discovered so far which makes it of special interest as each type of mode probes a different part of the star. This star is similar to the sdB hybrid pulsator Balloon 090100001 in that it exhibits short-pe…
We present a new eclipsing binary (EB) showing multiperiodic oscillations using the first three sectors of {\it TESS} photometry. The eclipse and pulsation light curves of TIC 309658221 were modeled using an iterative method to obtain a consistent photometric solution. The {\it TESS} target is a circular-orbit, detached binary system with a mass ratio of 0.349, an inclination angle of 80.42 deg, and a temperature difference of 847 K between the components. The primary component of the system lies near the red edge of the $δ$ Sct instability region on the main-sequence band in the Hertzsprung-R…
Recent progress in the seismic interpretation of field beta Cep stars has resulted in improvements of the physics in the stellar structure and evolution models of massive stars. Further asteroseismic constraints can be obtained from studying ensembles of stars in a young open cluster, which all have similar age, distance and chemical composition. We present an observational asteroseismology study based on the discovery of numerous multi-periodic and mono-periodic B-stars in the open cluster NGC 884. We describe a thorough investigation of the pulsational properties of all B-type stars in the c…
One of the largest uncertainties in stellar structure and evolution theory is the transport of angular momentum in the stellar interiors. Asteroseismology offers a powerful tool for measuring the internal rotation frequencies of pulsating stars, but the number of such measurements has remained few for $\gtrsim 3\,{\rm M}_\odot$ main-sequence stars. In this work, we compile a list of 52 slowly pulsating B stars for which the interior rotation has been measured asteroseismically. The measurements of the spin parameters, which describe the relative importance of rotation, for the gravito-inertial…
There are many Slowly Pulsating B (SPB) stars and gamma Dor stars in the Kepler Mission data set. The light curves of these pulsating stars have been classified phenomenologically into stars with symmetric light curves and with asymmetric light curves. In the same effective temperature ranges as the gamma Dor and SPB stars, there are variable stars with downward light curves that have been conjectured to be caused by spots. Among these phenomenological classes of stars, some show `frequency groups' in their amplitude spectra that have not previously been understood. While it has been recognise…
The {\it Kepler} light curve of KIC 4739791 exhibits partial eclipses, inverse O'Connell effect, and multiperiodic pulsations. Including a starspot on either of the binary components, the light-curve synthesis indicates that KIC 4739791 is in detached or semi-detached configurations with both a short orbital period and a low mass ratio. Multiple frequency analyses were performed in the light residuals after subtracting the binarity effects from the original {\it Kepler} data. We detected 14 frequencies: six in the low-frequency region (0.1$-$2.3 d$^{-1}$) and eight in the high-frequency region…
Classification of over 50000 TESS stars in sectors 1-18 has resulted in the detection of 766 pulsating main sequence B stars as well as over 5000 $δ$ Scuti, 2300 $γ$ Doradus and 114 roAp candidates. It is found that a distinct group of $β$ Cephei stars, defined as B stars with frequencies greater than 2.5 d$^{-1}$ and predicted by models, does not exist. Instead, high frequencies are to be found over the whole B-star range, eventually merging with $δ$ Scuti stars. The cool B stars pulsating in high frequencies are the Maia variables. It is shown that Maia variables are not rapidly-rotating $β$…
We present a method for finding binaries among pulsating stars that were observed by the Kepler Mission. We use entire four-year light curves to accurately measure the frequencies of the strongest pulsation modes, then track the pulsation phases at those frequencies in 10-d segments. This produces a series of time-delay measurements in which binarity is apparent as a periodic modulation whose amplitude gives the projected light travel time across the orbit. Fourier analysis of this time-delay curve provides the parameters of the orbit, including the period, eccentricity, angle of ascending nod…
A thorough understanding of many astrophysical phenomena associated with compact objects requires reliable knowledge about both the equation of state (EOS)of super-dense nuclear matter and the theory of strong-field gravity simultaneously because of the EOS-gravity degeneracy. Currently, variations of the neutron star (NS) mass-radius correlation from using alternative gravity theories are much larger than those from changing the NS matter EOS within known constraints. At least two independent observables are required to break the EOS-gravity degeneracy. Using model EOSs for hybrid stars and a…
Interpretation of the oscillation spectrum of the slowly pulsating B-type star HD21071 is presented. We show that non-rotating models cannot account for the two highest amplitude frequencies and taking into account the effects of rotation is necessary. Rotating seismic models are constructed using various chemical compositions, opacity data, core overshooting parameters and rotational velocities. There are prospects for seismic modelling of SPB stars, even if no asymptotic pattern is observed in their oscillation spectra, provided an unambiguous mode identification is doable and the effects of…
Pulsation frequencies reveal the interior structures of white dwarf stars, shedding light on the properties of these compact objects that represent the final evolutionary stage of most stars. Two-minute cadence photometry from TESS will record pulsation signatures from bright white dwarfs over the entire sky. We aim to demonstrate the sensitivity of TESS data to measuring pulsations of helium-atmosphere white dwarfs in the DBV instability strip, and what asteroseismic analysis of these measurements can constrain about their stellar structures. We present a case study of the pulsating DBV WD 01…
K2, the two-wheel mission of the Kepler space telescope, observed the pulsating subdwarf B star EQ Psc during engineering tests in 2014 February. In addition to a rich spectrum of g-mode pulsation frequencies, the observations demonstrate a light variation with a period of 19.2 h and a full amplitude of 2%. We suggest that this is due to reflection from a cool companion, making EQ\,Psc the longest-period member of some 30 binaries comprising a hot subdwarf and a cool dwarf companion (sdB+dM), and hence useful for exploring the common-envelope ejection mechanism in low-mass binaries.
The pulsating eclipsing binaries are remarkable systems that provide an opportunity to probe the stellar interior and to determine the fundamental stellar parameters precisely. Especially the detached eclipsing binary systems with (a) pulsating component(s) are significant objects to understand the nature of the oscillations since the binary effects in these systems are negligible. Recent studies based on space data have shown that the pulsation mechanisms of some oscillating stars are not completely understood. Hence, comprehensive studies of a number of pulsating stars within detached eclips…
White dwarfs correspond to the final stages of stellar evolution of solar-type stars. In these objects, production of energy by nuclear burning has ended which means that a white dwarf simply cools down over the course of the next billion years. It is now known that white dwarfs spend some of their cooling history in an instability strip. The pulsating white dwarfs with an hydrogen atmosphere (called DAV or ZZ Ceti stars) show non-radial oscillation modes with periods in the range 100 - 1200s. In this work we try to illustrate how the oscillation p-mode frequencies of idealized white dwarf mod…
We report the most rapid rate of period change measured to date for a pulsating DA (hydrogen atmosphere) white dwarf (WD), observed in the 292.9 s mode of WD 0111+0018. The observed period change, faster than 10^{-12} s/s, exceeds by more than two orders of magnitude the expected rate from cooling alone for this class of slow and simply evolving pulsating WDs. This result indicates the presence of an additional timescale for period evolution in these pulsating objects. We also measure the rates of period change of nonlinear combination frequencies and show that they share the evolutionary char…
This work is dedicated to a search for new pulsating hot subdwarfs in TESS photometric data which could have been missed in previous searches. By matching catalogues of hot subdwarfs with TESS targets and using luminosities from Gaia parallaxes, a list of 1389 candidate hot subdwarfs observed by TESS was created. The periodograms of these stars were inspected, and the stars were classified according to variability type. An updated catalogue of all known pulsating hot subdwarfs is presented. A number of probable pulsating binaries have been identified, which might prove useful for verifying the…
Pulsating stars occupy a significant place in the H-R diagram and it was thought that all stars inside the classical instability strip should pulsate. However, recent studies showed that there are many non-pulsating stars placed inside the classical instability strip. The existence of these non-pulsating stars is still a mystery. To deeply understand the properties of these non-pulsating and pulsating stars, one needs precise fundamental stellar parameters (e.g mass). For this purpose, the eclipsing binaries are unique systems. Hence, in this study, we present the TESS data analysis of one can…
From TESS photometry, 493 mid- to late-B stars with high frequencies (Maia variables) have been identified. The distribution of projected rotational velocities shows that the rotation rates of Maia variables are no different from those of SPB stars. Moreover, many Maia stars pulsate with frequencies exceeding 60 c/d. Rapid rotation is ruled out as a possible factor in understanding the Maia variables. There is clearly a serious problem with current pulsational models. Not only are the models unable to account for the Maia stars, but they also fail to account for the fact that SPB and gamma Dor…
V1388 Ori is an early-B type detached eclipsing binary whose physical properties have previously been measured from dedicated spectroscopy and a ground-based survey light curve. We reconsider the properties of the system using newly-available light curves from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). We discover two frequencies in the system, at 2.99 d$^{-1}$ and 4.00 d$^{-1}$ which are probably due to beta Cephei or slowly-pulsating B-star pulsations. A large number of additional significant frequencies exist at multiples of the orbital frequency, 0.4572 d$^{-1}$. We are not able to …
The study of pulsating stars in eclipsing binaries holds the promise of combining two different ways of measuring the physical properties of a star to obtain improved constraints on stellar theory. Gravity (g) mode pulsations such as those found in $γ$ Doradus stars can be used to probe rotational profiles, mixing and magnetic fields. Until recently few $γ$ Doradus stars in eclipsing binaries were known. We have discovered g-mode pulsations in four detached eclipsing binary systems from light curves obtained by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and present an analysis of their e…
TIC033834484 and TIC309658435 are long-period pulsating subdwarf B star, which were observed extensively (675 and 621 days, respectively) by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). The high-precision photometric light curve reveals the presence of more than 40 pulsation modes including both stars. All the oscillation frequencies that we found are associated with gravity (g)-mode pulsations, with frequencies spanning from 80 $μ$Hz (2 500 s) to 400 $μ$Hz (12 000 s). We utilize the asteroseismic tools including asymptotic period spacings and rotational frequency multiplets in order to i…
KIC 10001893 is a V1093 Her type pulsating subdwarf-B star, which was observed extensively by the Kepler spacecraft. It was a part of the survey searching for compact pulsators in the Kepler field of view. An amplitude spectrum of the star demonstrates a rich content of g-modes between 102 and 496 μHz as well as a few p-modes above 2000 μHz. In total, we found 110 frequencies. The g-mode region contains 104 frequencies, while the p-mode region contains just six, altogether indicating the hybrid nature of KIC 10001893. The main goal of our analysis was to identify the detected modes and to find…
We present a photometric, spectroscopic, asteroseismic, and evolutionary analysis of the Algol-type eclipsing binary KIC 12268220. We find the O'Connell effect and anticorrelated eclipse timing variations in the Kepler light curve, revealing the presence of large starspots. Radial velocities and atmospheric parameters are obtained from ground-based spectroscopic observations. Combined with the radial velocity measurements and Gaia-derived total luminosity, our light-curve modeling yields the solution of the physical parameters for both the primary and secondary components. We find 14 independe…
The {\sl TESS} space mission has recently demonstrated its great potential to discover new pulsating white dwarf and pre-white dwarf stars, and to detect periodicities with high precision in already known white-dwarf pulsators. We report the discovery of two new pulsating He-rich atmosphere white dwarfs (DBVs) and present a detailed asteroseismological analysis of three already known DBV stars employing observations collected by the {\sl TESS} mission along with ground-based data. We extracted frequencies from the {\sl TESS} light curves of these DBV stars using a standard pre-whitening proced…
We analyse 38-month of contiguous short-cadence data, concentrating on mode multiplets induced by the star rotation and on frequencies forming linear combinations that show intriguing behaviors during the course of the observations. We find clear signatures that point toward nonlinear effects predicted by resonant mode coupling mechanisms. These couplings can induce various mode behaviors for the components of multiplets and for frequencies related by linear relationships. We find that a triplet at 5760\,$μ$Hz, a quintuplet at 5287\,$μ$Hz and a ($\ell>2$) multiplet at 5412\,$μ$Hz, all induced …
KIC 9851944 is a short period ($P=2.16$ days) eclipsing binary in the {\it Kepler} field of view. By combining the analysis of {\it Kepler} photometry and phase resolved spectra from Kitt Peak National Observatory and Lowell Observatory, we determine the atmospheric and physical parameters of both stars. The two components have very different radii ($2.27R_{\odot}$, $3.19R_{\odot}$) but close masses ($1.76 M_{\odot}$, $1.79M_{\odot}$) and effective temperatures ($7026$K, $6902$K), indicating different evolutionary stages. The hotter primary is still on the main sequence (MS), while the cooler …
From sector 1--44 {\em TESS} observations, 19 new roAp stars, 103 ostensibly non-peculiar stars with roAp-like frequencies and 617 $δ$~Scuti stars with independent frequencies typical of roAp stars were found. Examination of all chemically peculiar stars observed by {\em TESS} resulted in the discovery of 199 Ap stars which pulsate as $δ$~Sct or $γ$~Dor variables. The fraction of pulsating Ap stars is the same as the fraction of pulsating chemically normal stars. There is no distinct separation in frequency or radial order between chemically peculiar $δ$~Sct stars and roAp stars. In fact, all …
We present the preliminary results of the study of an interesting target in the first CoRoT exo-planet field (IRa1): CoRoT 102918586. Its light curve presents additional variability on the top of the eclipses, whose pattern suggests multi- frequency pulsations. The high accuracy CoRoT light curve was analyzed by applying an iterative scheme, devised to disentangle the effect of eclipses from the oscillatory pattern. In addition to the CoRoT photometry we obtained low resolution spectroscopy with the AAOmega multi-fiber facility at the Anglo Australian Observatory, which yielded a spectral clas…
As part of the NASA Kepler Guest Observer program, we requested and obtained long-cadence data on about 2700 faint (magnitude 14-16) Kepler stars with effective temperatures and surface gravities that lie near or within the pulsation instability region for main-sequence gamma Doradus and delta Scuti pulsating variables. These variables are of spectral type A-F with masses of 1.4 to 2.5 solar masses. The delta Scuti stars pulsate in radial and non-radial acoustic modes, with periods of a few hours (frequencies around 10 cycles/day), while gamma Doradus variables pulsate in nonradial gravity mod…
It is known that the observed distribution of frequencies in CoRoT and Kepler δ Scuti stars has no parallelism with any theoretical model. Pre-whitening is a widespread technique in the analysis of time series with gaps from pulsating stars located in the classical instability strip such as δ Scuti stars. However, some studies have pointed out that this technique might introduce biases in the results of the frequency analysis. This work aims at studying the biases that can result from pre-whitening in asteroseismology. The results will depend on the intrinsic range and distribution of frequenc…
We collected a sample of ten hitherto unidentified SPB stars with the aim of describing their pulsational properties and identifying pulsational modes. Photometric time series data from various surveys were collected and analyzed using diverse frequency search algorithms. We calculated astrophysical parameters and investigated the location of our sample stars in the \logTeff\ versus \logl\ diagram. Current pulsational models were calculated and used for the identification of pulsational modes in our sample stars. An extensive grid of stellar models along with their g-mode eigenfrequencies was …
Binary systems anchor many of the fundamental relations relied upon in asteroseismology. Masses and radii are rarely constrained better than when measured via orbital dynamics and eclipse depths. Pulsating binaries have much to offer. They are clocks, moving in space, that encode orbital motion in the Doppler-shifted pulsation frequencies. They offer twice the opportunity to obtain an asteroseismic age, which is then applicable to both stars. They enable comparative asteroseismology -- the study of two stars by their pulsation properties, whose only fundamental differences are the mass and rot…
We present the first light curves and pulsation analysis results for V729 Aql and two newly discovered eclipsing binaries, namely USNO-A2.0 0975-17281677 and USNO-A2.0 1200-03937339. Frequency search was applied on the residuals of their light curves and the results showed that their primary components pulsate in multiperiodic modes and lie well inside the frequency and temperature range of ? delta Scuti stars. Moreover, for USNO-A2.0 1200-03937339 two frequencies inside the gamma Dor frequency range were also detected, but their origin is discussed. The photometric models of USNO-A2.0 1200-03…
We present five new pulsating subdwarf B (sdB) stars discovered by the Kepler spacecraft during the asteroseismology survey phase. We perform time-series analysis on the nearly continuous month-long Kepler datasets of these 5 objects; these datasets provide nearly alias-free time-series photometry at unprecedented precision. Following an iterative prewhitening process we derive the pulsational frequency spectra of these stars, separating out artefacts of known instrumental origin. We find that these new pulsating sdB stars are multiperiodic long-period pulsators of the V1093 Her type, with the…
A spectroscopic analysis of SDSS J160043.6+074802.9, a binary system containing a pulsating subdwarf-O (sdO) star with a late-type companion, yields Teff = 70 000 +/- 5000 K and log g = 5.25 +/- 0.30, together with a most likely type of K3V for the secondary star. We compare our results with atmospheric parameters derived by Fontaine et al. (2008) and in the context of existing evolution models for sdO stars. New and more extensive photometry is also presented which recovers most, but not all, frequencies found in an earlier paper. It therefore seems probable that some pulsation modes have var…
Amplitude and period variations have been detected in almost all types of pulsating stars. Many of these modulations are nearly periodic. In RR Lyrae stars the phenomenon in known as the Blazhko Effect. Because of the observed similarities, we propose to extend the definition to other groups. We illustrate the Blazhko Effect with examples from Cepheids, RR Lyrae stars, White Dwarfs, sdB stars and delta Scuti variables. For delta Scuti stars the present results indicate the presence of at least two effects: beating of independent modes with close frequencies and stellar cycles. For period and a…
We present the results of a spectroscopic and photometric analysis of HD314884, a slowly pulsating B star (SPB) in a binary system with detected soft X-ray emission. We spectrally classify the B star as a B5V-B6V star with T$_{eff}$ = 15,490 $\pm$ 310 K, log $g$ = 3.75 $\pm$ 0.25 dex, and a photometric period of P$_{0}$ = 0.889521(12) days. A spectroscopic period search reveals an orbital period for the system of P$_{orb}$ = 1.3654(11) days. The discrepancy in the two periods and the identification of a second and third distinct frequency in the photometric fourier transform at P$_1$ = 3.1347(…
The hot $γ$~Doradus stars have multiple low frequencies characteristic of $γ$~Dor or SPB variables, but are located between the red edge of the SPB and the blue edge of the $γ$~Dor instability strips where all low-frequency modes are stable in current models of these stars. Though $δ$~Sct stars also have low frequencies, there is no sign of high frequencies in hot $γ$~Dor stars. We obtained spectra to refine the locations of some of these stars in the H-R diagram and conclude that these are, indeed, anomalous pulsating stars. The Maia variables have multiple high frequencies characteristic of …
Some pulsating stars are good clocks. When they are found in binary stars, the frequencies of their luminosity variations are modulated by the Doppler effect caused by orbital motion. For each pulsation frequency this manifests itself as a multiplet separated by the orbital frequency in the Fourier transform of the light curve of the star. We derive the theoretical relations to exploit data from the Fourier transform to derive all the parameters of a binary system traditionally extracted from spectroscopic radial velocities, including the mass function which is easily derived from the amplitud…
We report results of our analysis of the Kepler superaperture LC data of the open cluster NGC6791 to search for pulsating sdB stars. We checked all pixels and we found only three sdB stars to be pulsating, KIC2569576 (B3), KIC2438324 (B4) and KIC2437937 (B5). These stars were known to be pulsators before, though we extended data coverage detecting more frequencies and features in their amplitude spectra, i.e. new multiplets and more complete period spacing sequences that we used for identifying geometry of the pulsation modes. The multiplet splittings were also used to derive rotation periods.…
The analysis of the light curves of 48 B-type stars observed by Kepler is presented. Among these are 15 pulsating stars, all of which show low frequencies characteristic of SPB stars. Seven of these stars also show a few weak, isolated high frequencies and they could be considered as SPB/beta Cep hybrids. In all cases the frequency spectra are quite different from what is seen from ground-based observations. We suggest that this is because most of the low frequencies are modes of high degree which are predicted to be unstable in models of mid-B stars. We find that there are non-pulsating stars…
We present the discovery of nonradial pulsations in a hot subdwarf B star based on 30.5 days of nearly continuous time-series photometry using the \emph{Kepler} spacecraft. KIC 010139564 is found to be a short-period pulsator of the V361 Hya (EC 14026) class with more than 10 independent pulsation modes whose periods range from 130 to 190 seconds. It also shows one periodicity at a period of 3165 seconds. If this periodicity is a high order g-mode, then this star may be the hottest member of the hybrid DW Lyn stars. In addition to the resolved pulsation frequencies, additional periodic variati…
Aims. We use the Kepler data accumulated on the pulsating DB white dwarf KIC 08626021 to explore in detail the stability of its oscillation modes, searching in particular for evidences of nonlinear behaviors. Methods. We analyse nearly two years of uninterrupted short cadence data, concentrating in particular on identified triplets due to stellar rotation that show intriguing behaviors during the course of the observations. Results. We find clear signatures of nonlinear effects attributed to resonant mode coupling mechanisms. We find that a triplet at 4310 μHz and this doublet at 3681 μHz (mos…
Hydrogen atmosphere pulsating white dwarfs, also known as DAV stars, are the most abundant type of pulsating white dwarfs. High-temperature DAV stars exhibit in general a small number of pulsation modes and stable frequencies. G132-12 is one of the pulsating hydrogen atmosphere white dwarf stars which lies close to the blue edge of the instability strip. Previous researches reported that G132-12 might have only one pulsation mode with the period of 212.69 s. To study the pulsation properties of G132-12 in detail, we carried out a bi-site observation campaign in October 2019. Time series photom…
The internal structures of pulsating white dwarfs can be explored only with asteroseismology. Time series photometric observations were made for the pulsating DA white dwarf (ZZ Ceti star) WD~0246+326 during 9 nights in 2014 with a bi-site observation campaign. Eleven frequencies were detected including 1 triplet, 2 doublets, and 4 single modes, which are identified as either $l=1$ or $l=2$ modes with the complementarity of frequencies present in the literature. From the multiplets, the rotation period of \astrobj{WD~0246+326} is derived as $3.78\pm 0.11$ days. The average period spacing of th…
We present an analysis of three new pulsating subdwarf B stars discovered in the SuperWASP archive. Two of the stars, J1938+5609 and J0902-0720, are p-mode pulsators; J1938+5609 shows a pulsation at 231.62 d$^{-1}$ ($P=373$ s; 2681 $μ$Hz) with an amplitude of 4 mmag, whereas J0902-0720 pulsates at frequencies 636.74 d$^{-1}$ ($P=136$ s; 7370 $μ$Hz) and 615.34 d$^{-1}$ ($P=140$ s; 7122 $μ$Hz), with amplitudes 7.27 and 1.53 mmag, respectively. The third star, J2344-3427, is a hybrid pulsator with a p-mode frequency at 223.16 d$^{-1}$ ($P=387$ s; 2583 $μ$Hz) and a corresponding amplitude of 1.5 m…
We present results of a Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) search for short-period pulsations in compact stellar objects observed in years 1 and 3 of the TESS mission, during which the southern ecliptic hemisphere was targeted. We describe the TESS data used and the details of the search method. For many of the targets, we use unpublished spectroscopic observations to classify the objects. From the TESS photometry, we clearly identify 43 short-period hot-subdwarf pulsators, including 32 sdB stars, eight sdOB stars, two sdO stars, and, significantly, one He-sdOB star, which is the fir…
Knowledge of the geometry of pulsational modes is a prerequisite for seismic modelling of stars. In the case of slowly pulsating B-type (SPB) pulsators, the simple zero-rotation approach so far used for mode identification is usually not valid because pulsational frequencies are often of the order of the rotational frequency. Moreover, this approach allows us to determine only the spherical harmonic degree, $\ell$, while the azimuthal order, $m$, is beyond its reach. On the other hand, because of the density of oscillation spectra of SPB stars, knowledge of $m$ is indispensable if one wants to…
The large-scale magnetic fields detected at the surface of about 10% of hot stars extend into the stellar interior, where they may alter the structure. Deep inner regions of stars are only observable using asteroseismology. Here, we investigated the pulsating magnetic B3.5V star HD43317, inferred its interior properties and assessed whether the dipolar magnetic field with a surface strength of $B_p = 1312 \pm 332$G caused different properties compared to those of non-magnetic stars. We analysed the latest version of the star's 150d CoRoT light curve and extracted 35 significant frequencies, 28…
Asteroseismology offers the possibility of probing stellar interiors and testing evolutionary and seismic models. Precise photometry and spectroscopy obtained during multi-site campaigns on young open clusters allows discovering rich samples of pulsating stars and using them in a simultaneous seismic modelling called ensemble asteroseismology. The aim of this study is to obtain the age of the open cluster NGC 6910 by means of ensemble asteroseismology of the early-type pulsating members, to derive their stellar parameters, and to classify the excited modes. We used time-series analysis, perfor…
Seismic modeling of the Slowly Pulsating B-type star HD182255 yields strong constraints on the radial orders of the two dominant modes. For these frequencies, we derive also the empirical values of the complex nonadiabatic parameter $f$. These two seismic tools, i.e., pulsational frequencies and the associated values of $f$, allow to test available opacity data, chemical composition and overshooting efficiency.
Massive stars are important building blocks of the Universe, and their stellar structure and evolution models are fundamental cornerstones of various fields in modern astrophysics. The precision of these models is limited by our lack of understanding of various internal mixing processes that significantly influence the lifetime of these objects (e.g. core overshoot, chemical mixing, or the internal differential rotation). Our goal is to calibrate models by extending the sample of available seismic studies of slowly pulsating B (SPB) stars, providing input for theoretical modelling efforts that…
SDSS J111215.82+111745.0 is the second pulsating extremely low-mass white dwarf discovered. Two short-period pulsations, 107.56 and 134.275 s, were detected on this star, which would be the first observed pressure mode ($p$-mode) pulsations observed on a white dwarf. While the two potential $p$-modes have yet to be confirmed, they make SDSS J111215.82+111745.0 an interesting object. In this work, we analyzed the whole set of seven periods observed on SDSS J111215.82+111745.0. We adopt three independent period-spacing tests to reveal a roughly 93.4 s mean period spacing of $\ell=1$ $g$-modes, w…
The recently discovered subdwarf B (sdB) pulsator KIC11558725 features a rich g-mode frequency spectrum, with a few low-amplitude p-modes at short periods, and is a promising target for a seismic study aiming to constrain the internal structure of this star, and of sdB stars in general. We have obtained ground-based spectroscopic Balmer-line radial-velocity measurements of KIC11558725, spanning the 2010 and 2011 observing seasons. From these data we have discovered that KIC11558725 is a binary with period P=10.05 d, and that the radial-velocity amplitude of the sdB star is 58 km/s. Consequentl…
