The Consistency Relations for the Large Scale Structure provide a link between the amplitude of Baryonic Acoustic Oscillations in the squeezed bispectrum (BS) and in the power spectrum (PS). This relation depends on the large scale bias of the considered tracer, $b_α$, and on the growth rate of structures, $f$. Remarkably, originating from basic symmetry principles, this relation is exact and independent on the underlying cosmological model.
By analysing data from large volume simulations, both for dark matter and for haloes, we illustrate how BS and PS measurements can be used to extract $b_α$ and $f$ without the need of any theoretical approximation scheme for the computation of the BS and the PS. We show that, combining measurements of the squeezed BS with the quadrupole to monopole ratios for the PS at large scales can successfully break the $b_α-f$ degeneracy. We forecast that this method, applied to a Euclid-like survey, will be able to measure bias, and then the growth rate, at better than $10\%$ level, with no extra assumption.
We investigate measuring the peculiar motions of galaxies up to $z=0.5$ using Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) from LSST, and predict the subsequent constraints on the growth rate of structure. We consider two cases. Our first is based on measurements of the volumetric SNe Ia rate and assumes we can obtain spectroscopic redshifts and light curves for varying fractions of objects that are detected pre-peak luminosity by LSST (some of which may be obtained by LSST itself and others which would require additional follow-up). We find that these measurements could produce growth rate constraints at $z<0…
We develop a simple formalism of biased tracers that we dub $\mathit{Monkey\ bias}$. In this formalism, a biased tracer field is constructed directly in terms of the linear matter fluctuation field and the set of derivative operators acting on it. Such bias expansion is first organized based on the general structure of non-linear dynamical equations for the biased tracers. Further physical conditions, like the equivalence principle, are imposed on tree-level correlators utilising the consistency relations. We obtain the bias expansion up to the third-order in linear matter fluctuation in the g…
We study the impact of the nonlinear growth of the large-scale structure (LSS) on the removal of the gravitational lensing effect (delensing) in cosmic microwave background (CMB) $B$ modes. The importance of the nonlinear growth of the LSS in the gravitational lensing analysis of CMB has been recently recognized by several works, while its impact on delensing is not yet explored. The delensing using mass-tracers such as galaxies and cosmic infrared background (CIB) could be also affected by the nonlinear growth. We find that the nonlinear growth of the LSS leads to $\sim 0.3\%$ corrections to …
Peculiar-velocity surveys of the low-redshift universe have significant leverage to constrain the growth rate of cosmic structure and test gravity. Wide-field imaging surveys combined with multi-object spectrographs (e.g. ZTF2, LSST, DESI, 4MOST) can use Type Ia supernovae as informative tracers of the velocity field, reaching few percent constraints on the growth rate $fσ_8$ at $z\lesssim0.2$ where density tracers cannot do better than $\sim10\%$. Combining the high-redshift DESI survey mapping redshift space distortions with a low-redshift supernova peculiar velocity survey using LSST and DE…

Both simulations and observations have confirmed that the spin of haloes/galaxies is correlated with the large scale structure (LSS) with a mass dependence such that the spin of low-mass haloes/galaxies tend to be parallel with the LSS, while that of massive haloes/galaxies tend to be perpendicular with the LSS. It is still unclear how this mass dependence is built up over time. We use N-body simulations to trace the evolution of the halo spin-LSS correlation and find that at early times the spin of all halo progenitors is parallel with the LSS. As time goes on, mass collapsing around massive …
We present a new test of gravitational physics by comparing the growth rate of cosmic structure measured around voids with that measured around galaxies in the same large-scale structure dataset, the low-redshift 6-degree Field Galaxy Survey. By fitting a self-consistent Redshift Space Distortion model to the 2D galaxy-galaxy and void-galaxy correlation functions, we recover growth rate values fσ_8 = 0.42 \pm 0.06 and 0.39 \pm 0.11, respectively. The environmental-dependence of cosmological statistics can potentially discriminate between modified-gravity scenarios which modulate the growth rat…
Gravitational clustering in the nonlinear regime remains poorly understood. Gravity dual of gravitational clustering has recently been proposed as a means to study the nonlinear regime. The stable clustering ansatz remains a key ingredient to our understanding of gravitational clustering in the highly nonlinear regime. We study certain aspects of violation of the stable clustering ansatz in the gravity dual of Large Scale Structure (LSS). We extend the recent studies of gravitational clustering using AdS gravity dual to take into account possible departure from the stable clustering ansatz and…
We examine systematically the (in)consistency between cosmological constraints as obtained from various current data sets of the expansion history, Large Scale Structure (LSS), and Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) from Planck. We run (dis)concordance tests within each set and across the sets using a recently introduced index of inconsistency (IOI) capable of dissecting inconsistencies between two or more data sets. First, we compare the constraints on $H_0$ from five different methods and find that the IOI drops from 2.85 to 0.88 (on Jeffreys' scales) when the local $H_0$ measurements is remo…
Impact of Scale Dependent Bias and Nonlinear Structure Growth on the ISW Effect: Angular Power Spectra
These corrections are swamped by cosmic variance.
Future gravitational wave (GW) observations are capable of detecting millions of compact star binary mergers in extragalactic galaxies, with $1\%$ luminosity-distance ($D_L$) measurement accuracy and better than arcminute positioning accuracy. This will open a new window of the large scale structure (LSS) of the universe, in the 3D {\bf luminosity-distance space (LDS)}, instead of the 3D redshift space of galaxy spectroscopic surveys. The baryon acoustic oscillation and the AP test encoded in the LDS LSS constrain the $D_L$-$D^{\rm co}_A$ (comoving angular diameter distance) relation and there…
Consistency between cosmological data sets is essential for ongoing and future cosmological analyses. We first investigate the questions of stability and applicability of some moment-based inconsistency measures to multiple data sets. We show that the recently introduced index of inconsistency (IOI) is numerically stable while it can be applied to multiple data sets. We use an illustrative construction of constraints as well as an example with real data sets (i.e. WMAP versus Planck) to show some limitations of the application of the Karhunen-Loeve decomposition to discordance measures. Second…
We carry out a multi-probe self-consistency test of the flat $Λ$CDM model with the aim of exploring potential causes of the reported tensions between high- and low-redshift cosmological observations. We divide the model into two theory regimes determined by the smooth background (geometry) and the evolution of matter density fluctuations (growth), each governed by an independent set of Lambda Cold Dark Matter ($Λ$CDM) cosmological parameters. This extended model is constrained by a combination of weak gravitational lensing measurements from the Kilo-Degree Survey, galaxy clustering signatures …
We present a new measurement of structure growth at $z \simeq 0.08$ obtained by correlating the cosmic microwave background (CMB) lensing potential map from the \textit{Planck} satellite with the angular distribution of the 2MASS Photometric Redshift galaxies. After testing for, and finding no evidence for systematic effects, we calculate the angular auto- and cross-power spectra. We combine these spectra to estimate the amplitude of structure growth using the bias-independent $D_G$ estimator introduced by Giannantonio et al. 2016. We find that the relative amplitude of $D_G$ with respect to t…
The Tianlai experiment is dedicated to the observation of large scale structures (LSS) by the 21 cm intensity mapping technique. In this paper we make forecasts on its capability at observing or constraining the dark energy parameters and the primordial non-Gaussianity. From the LSS data one can use the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) and the growth rate derived from the redshift space distortion (RSD) to measure the dark energy density and equation of state. The primordial non-Gaussianity can be constrained either by looking for scale-dependent bias in the power spectrum, or by using the bi…
Consistency Relations (CR) for the Large Scale Structure are exact equalities between correlation functions of different order. These relations descend from the equivalence principle and hold for primordial perturbations generated by single-field models of inflation. They are not affected by nonlinearities and hold also for biased tracers and in redshift space. We show that Baryonic Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) in the bispectrum (BS) in the squeezed limit are suppressed with respect to those in the power spectrum (PS) by a coefficient that depends on the BS configuration and on the bias paramet…
In this work, we test consistency relations between a kinematic probe, the observational Hubble data, and a dynamical probe, the growth rates for cosmic large scale structure, which should hold if general relativity is the correct theory of gravity on cosmological scales. Moreover, we summarize the development history of parametrization in testings and make an improvement of it. Taking advantage of the Hubble parameter given from both parametric and non-parametric methods, we propose three equations and test two of them performed by means of two-dimensional parameterizations, including one usi…
If the FRW metric is a good approximation on large scales, then the distance and the expansion rate, as well different notions of distance, satisfy certain consistency conditions. We fit the JLA SNIa distance data to determine the expected amplitude of the violation of these conditions if accelerated expansion is due to backreaction. Adding cosmic clock and BAO expansion rate data, we also model-independently determine the current observational limits on such violation. We find that the predicted maximum backreaction amplitude $|k_H|\lesssim1$ (95% C.I.) is of the same order as the current obs…
In order to explain the current acceleration of the Universe, the fine tuning problem of the cosmological constant $Λ$ and the cosmic coincidence problem, different alternative models have been proposed in the literature. We use the most recent observational data from CMB (Planck 2018 final data release) and LSS (SDSS, WiggleZ, VIPERS) to constrain dynamical dark energy (DE) models. The CMB shift parameter, which traditionally has been used to determine the main cosmological parameters of the standard model $ΛCDM$ is employed in addition to data from redshift-space distortions through the grow…
It has been recognized that the observables of large-scale structure (LSS) is susceptible to long-wavelength density and tidal fluctuations whose wavelengths exceed the accessible scale of a finite-volume observation, referred to as the super-sample modes. The super-sample modes modulate the growth and expansion rate of local structures, thus affecting the cosmological information encoded in the statistics of galaxy clustering data. In this paper, based on the Lagrangian perturbation theory, we develop a new formalism to systematically compute the response of a biased tracer of LSS, which is e…
We perform parametric tests of the consistency of the standard $w$CDM model in the framework of general relativity by carefully separating information between the geometry and growth of structure. We replace each late-universe parameter that describes the behavior of dark energy with two parameters: one describing geometrical information in cosmological probes, and the other controlling the growth of structure. We use data from all principal cosmological probes: of these, Type Ia supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations, and the peak locations in the cosmic microwave background angular power s…
We re-analyze the nonlocal gravity model of Deser and Woodard which was proposed to account for the current phase of cosmic acceleration. We show that the growth of perturbations predicted by this nonlocal gravity model when its background evolution is fixed by some particular non-$Λ$CDM models can be substantially lower than when its background is fixed by $Λ$CDM. This can be seen when we consider the background expansion by a dark energy model with a slightly less negative equation of state with respect to cosmological constant. Our results hints towards a fact that the choice of the backgro…
Redshift-space distortions (RSD) offer an attractive method to measure the growth of cosmic structure on large scales, and combining with the measurement of the cosmic expansion history, it can be used as cosmological tests of gravity. With the advent of future galaxy redshift surveys aiming at precisely measuring the RSD, an accurate modeling of RSD going beyond linear theory is a critical issue in order to detect or disprove small deviations from general relativity (GR). While several improved models of RSD have been recently proposed based on the perturbation theory (PT), the framework of t…
The cosmological constant $Λ$ and cold dark matter (CDM) model ($Λ\text{CDM}$) is one of the pillars of modern cosmology and is widely used as the de facto theoretical model by current and forthcoming surveys. As the nature of dark energy is very elusive, in order to avoid the problem of model bias, here we present a novel null test at the perturbation level that uses the growth of matter perturbation data in order to assess the concordance model. We analyze how accurate this null test can be reconstructed by using data from forthcoming surveys creating mock catalogs based on $Λ\text{CDM}$ and…
We apply an orthogonalization procedure on the effective field theory of large scale structure (EFT of LSS) shapes, relevant for the angle-averaged bispectrum and non-Gaussian covariance of the matter power spectrum at one loop. Assuming natural-sized EFT parameters, this identifies a linear combination of EFT shapes - referred to as the principal shape - that gives the dominant contribution for the whole kinematic plane, with subdominant combinations suppressed by a few orders of magnitude. For the covariance, our orthogonal transformation is in excellent agreement with a principal component …
The bispectrum is the leading non-Gaussian statistic in Large-Scale Structure (LSS) clustering and encodes the interactions in the underlying field. It is thus an important diagnostic for primordial non-Gaussianity and higher order galaxy biasing. In this paper we present a detailed test and calibration of the matter bispectrum counterterms in the Effective Field Theory of LSS against a suite of $N$-body simulations. We are going beyond previous studies in employing realisation based perturbation theory that allows for a significant reduction in cosmic variance error bars. This enables the mea…
Assuming a simple form for the growth index gamma(z) depending on two parameters gamma_0 = gamma(z=0) and gamma_1 = gamma'(z=0), we show that these parameters can be constrained using background expansion data. We explore systematically the preferred region in this parameter space. Inside General Relativity we obtain that models with a quasi-static growth index and gamma_1 = -0.02 are favoured. We find further the lower bounds gamma_0 > 0.53 and gamma_1 > -0.15 for models inside GR. Models outside GR having the same background expansion as LCDM and arbitrary gamma(z) with gamma_0 = gamma_0^{LC…
The growth index of matter fluctuations is computed for ten distinct accelerating cosmological models and confronted to the latest growth rate data via a two-step process. First, we implement a joint statistical analysis in order to place constraints on the free parameters of all models using solely background data. Second, using the observed growth rate of clustering from various galaxy surveys we test the performance of the current cosmological models at the perturbation level while either marginalizing over $σ_8$ or having it as a free parameter. As a result, we find that at a statistical l…
We construct an updated and extended compilation of growth rate data consisting of 34 points and including corrections for model dependence. In order to maximize the independence of the datapoints we also construct a subsample of this compilation (`Gold' growth dataset) which consists of 18 datapoints. We test the consistency of this dataset with the best fit Planck15/$Λ$CDM parameters in the context of General Relativity (GR) using the evolution equation for the growth factor $δ(a)$ with a $w$CDM background. We find tension at the $\sim 3 σ$ level between the best fit parameters $w$ (the dark…
In this work, we use a combined approach of Hubble parameter data together with redshift-space-distortion $(fσ_8)$ data, which together are used to reconstruct the teleparallel gravity (TG) Lagrangian via Gaussian processes (GP). The adopted Hubble data mainly comes from cosmic chronometers, while for the Type Ia supernovae data we use the latest jointly calibrated Pantheon compilation. Moreover, we consider two main GP covariance functions, namely the squared-exponential and Cauchy kernels in order to show consistency (to within 1$σ$ uncertainties). The core results of this work are the numer…
Consistency tests for the general relativity (GR) can be performed by constraining the growth index $γ$ using the measurements of redshift-space distortions (RSD) in conjunction with other observations. In previous studies, deviations from the GR expected value of $γ\approx 0.55$ at the 2--3$σ$ level were found. In this work, we reconsider the measurement of $γ$ in a universe with sterile neutrinos. We constrain the sterile neutrino cosmological model using the RSD measurements combined with the cosmic microwave background data (Planck temperature data plus WMAP 9-yr polarization data), the ba…
The growth rate of large-scale structure provides a powerful consistency test of the standard cosmological model and a probe of possible deviations from general relativity. We use a Fisher analysis to forecast constraints on the growth rate from a combination of next-generation spectroscopic surveys. In the overlap survey volumes, we use a multi-tracer analysis to significantly reduce the effect of cosmic variance. The non-overlap individual survey volumes are included in the Fisher analysis in order to utilise the entire volume. We use the observed angular power spectrum, which naturally incl…
