We revisit results obtained in [F. Harary, U. Peled, Hamiltonian threshold graphs, Discrete Appl.~Math., 16 (1987), 11--15], where several necessary and necessary and sufficient conditions for a connected threshold graph to be Hamiltonian were obtained. We present these results in new forms, now stated in terms of structural parameters that uniquely define the threshold graph and we extend them to chain graphs. We also identify the chain graph with minimum number of Hamilton cycles within the class of Hamiltonian chain graphs of a given order.
A connected simple graph is said dual-hamiltonian if its vertex set has a $2$-coloring such that each color class induces a tree. We call such a coloring a hamiltonian coloring. We prove that if $G$ is a graph with a certain type of hamiltonian coloring and $T$ is a tree, then $G\times T$ is also dual-hamiltonian having the same certain type of hamiltonian coloring. This result is used to constructed a class of dual-hamiltonian graphs, which includes the hypercubes and other multidimensional grids.
We prove that the minimum number of Hamilton cycles in a hamiltonian threshold graph of order $n$ is $2^{\lfloor (n-3)/2\rfloor}$ and this minimum number is attained uniquely by the graph with degree sequence $n-1,n-1,n-2,\ldots,\lceil n/2\rceil,\lceil n/2\rceil,\ldots,3,2$ of $n-2$ distinct degrees. This graph is also the unique graph of minimum size among all hamiltonian threshold graphs of order $n.$
We determine the \emph{exact} minimum $\ell$-degree threshold for perfect matchings in $k$-uniform hypergraphs when the corresponding threshold for perfect fractional matchings is significantly less than $\frac{1}{2} \binom{n}{k- \ell}$. This extends our previous results that determine the minimum $\ell$-degree thresholds for perfect matchings in $k$-uniform hypergraphs for all $\ell\ge k/2$ and provides two new (exact) thresholds: $(k,\ell)=(5,2)$ and $(7,3)$.
Let $G$ be an $n$-vertex graph obtained by adding chords to a cycle of length $n$. Markström asked for the maximum number of edges in $G$ if there are no two cycles in $G$ with the same length. A simple counting argument shows that such a graph can have at most $n + \sqrt{2n} +1 $ edges. Using difference sets in $\mathbb{Z}_n$, we show that for infinitely many $n$, there is an $n$-vertex Hamiltonian graph with $n + \sqrt{n - 3/4} - 3/2$ edges and no repeated cycle length.
For positive integers $r > \ell$, an $r$-uniform hypergraph is called an $\ell$-cycle if there exists a cyclic ordering of its vertices such that each of its edges consists of $r$ consecutive vertices, and such that every pair of consecutive edges (in the natural ordering of the edges) intersect in precisely $\ell$ vertices. Such cycles are said to be linear when $\ell = 1$, and nonlinear when $\ell > 1$. We determine the sharp threshold for nonlinear Hamiltonian cycles and show that for all $r > \ell > 1$, the threshold $p^*_{r, \ell} (n)$ for the appearance of a Hamiltonian $\ell$-cycle in t…
Let $t>0$ be a real number and $G$ be a graph. We say $G$ is $t$-tough if for every cutset $S$ of $G$, the ratio of $|S|$ to the number of components of $G-S$ is at least $t$. The Toughness Conjecture of Chvátal, stating that there exists a constant $t_0$ such that every $t_0$-tough graph with at least three vertices is hamiltonian, is still open in general. For any given integer $k\ge 1$, a graph $G$ is $(P_2\cup kP_1)$ free if $G$ does not contain the disjoint union of $P_2$ and $k$ isolated vertices as an induced subgraph. In this note, we show that every 4-tough and $2k$-connected $(P_2\cu…
Rödl, Ruciński, and Szemerédi determined the minimum $(k-1)$-degree threshold for the existence of fractional perfect matchings in $k$-uniform hypergrahs, and Kühn, Osthus, and Townsend extended this result by asymptotically determining the $d$-degree threshold for the range $k-1>d\ge k/2$. In this note, we prove the following exact degree threshold: Let $k,d$ be positive integers with $k\ge 4$ and $k-1>d\geq k/2$, and let $n$ be any integer with $n\ge k^2$. Then any $n$-vertex $k$-uniform hypergraph with minimum $d$-degree $δ_d(H)>{n-d\choose k-d} -{n-d-(\lceil n/k\rceil-1)\choose k-d}$ conta…
Let $λ_{1}(G)$ and $μ_{1}(G)$ denote the spectral radius and the Laplacian spectral radius of a graph $G$, respectively. Li in [Electronic J. Linear Algebra 34 (2018) 389-392] proved sharp upper bounds of $λ_{1}(G)$ based on the connectivity to assure a connected graph to be Hamiltonian and traceable, respectively. In this paper, we present best possible upper bounds of $λ_{1}(G)$ for $k$-connected graphs to be Hamiltonian-connected and homogeneously traceable, respectively. Furthermore, best possible upper bounds of $μ_{1}(G)$ to predict $k$-connected graphs to be Hamiltonian-connected, Hamil…
A Berge copy of a graph is a hypergraph obtained by enlarging the edges arbitrarily. Grósz, Methuku and Tompkins in 2020 showed that for any graph $F$, there is an integer $r_0=r_0(F)$, such that for any $r\ge r_0$, any $r$-uniform hypergraph without a Berge copy of $F$ has $o(n^2)$ hyperedges. The smallest such $r_0$ is called the uniformity threshold of $F$ and is denoted by $th(F)$. They showed that $th(F)\le R(F,F')$, where $R$ denotes the off-diagonal Ramsey number and $F'$ is any graph obtained form $F$ by deleting an edge. We improve this bound to $th(F)\le R(K_{χ(F)},F')$, and use the …
Balogh, Csaba, Jing and Pluhár recently determined the minimum degree threshold that ensures a $2$-coloured graph $G$ contains a Hamilton cycle of significant colour bias (i.e., a Hamilton cycle that contains significantly more than half of its edges in one colour). In this short note we extend this result, determining the corresponding threshold for $r$-colourings.
A Hamiltonian cycle in a graph is a spanning subgraph that is homeomorphic to a circle. With this in mind, it is natural to define a Hamiltonian d-sphere in a d-dimensional simplicial complex as a spanning subcomplex that is homeomorphic to a d-dimensional sphere. We consider the Linial-Meshulam model for random simplicial complexes, and prove that there is a sharp threshold at $p=\sqrt{\frac{e}{γn}}$ for the appearance of a Hamiltonian $2$-sphere in a random $2$-complex, where $γ= 4^4/3^3$.
We present a family of 3-connected cubic planar Hamiltonian graphs with an exponential number of steps required by Thomason's algorithm. The base of the exponent is approximately $1.1812...$, which exceeds previous results in the area.
We find the threshold for the existence of a collection of edge disjoint copies of $K_r$ that form a cyclic structure and span all vertices of $G_{n,p}$. We use a recent result of Riordan to give a two line proof of the main result.
Let $k,a,b$ be positive integers with $a+b=k$. A $k$-uniform hypergraph is called an $(a,b)$-cycle if there is a partition $(A_0,B_0,A_1,B_1,\ldots,A_{t-1},B_{t-1})$ of the vertex set with $|A_i|=a$, $|B_i|=b$ such that $A_i\cup B_i$ and $B_i\cup A_{i+1}$ (subscripts module $t$) are edges for all $i=0,1,\ldots,t-1$. Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a $k$-uniform $n$-vertex hypergraph with $n\geq 5k$ and $n$ divisible by $k$. By applying the concentration inequality for intersections of a uniform hypergraph with a random matching developed by Frankl and Kupavskii, we show that if there exists $α\in (0,1)$ …
In \emph{$k$-bootstrap percolation}, we fix $p\in (0,1)$, an integer $k$, and a plane graph $G$. Initially, we infect each face of $G$ independently with probability $p$. Infected faces remain infected forever, and if a healthy (uninfected) face has at least $k$ infected neighbors, then it becomes infected. For fixed $G$ and $p$, the \emph{percolation threshold} is the largest $k$ such that eventually all faces become infected, with probability at least $1/2$. For a large class of infinite graphs, we show that this threshold is independent of $p$. We consider bootstrap percolation in tilings o…
