This work reports superconductivity studies in the intermetallic Ti$_{0.85}$Pd$_{0.15}$ performed in normal conditions and under hydrostatic pressure. The crystal structure of the compound has a body centered cubic at room temperature and atmospheric pressure as unstable $β$-Ti phase. X-Ray diffraction pattern shows space group $Im\bar{3}m$ with parameter $a=3.2226(4)$ Åand density around 5.6242 g/cm$^{3}$. The superconducting transition temperature, T$_{C}=3.7$ K was determined from resistance, magnetization, and specific heat measurements. The two critical magnetic fields, the coherence length, Ginzburg-Landau parameter, London penetration depth, the superconducting energy gap, the Debye temperature, the electron-phonon coupling constant and density of states at the Fermi level were calculated. These parameters were obtained at ambient pressure. Under hydrostatic pressure, the magnetic susceptibility measurements show a small increment on T$_{C}$, the maximum T$_{C}=3.83$ K was obtained at the maximum applied pressure of 1.03 GPa. The slope calculated for T$_{C}$ as a linear function of pressure was about 0.14 K/GPa, possibly associated with an increase in the electronic density of states.
Simulation of 'hybrid' superconductors of 3d-, 4d- and 5d-transition elements consisting of two different superconducting fragments located between positively charged ions planes - B'O2 oxide planes and B2C2 intermetallic layers - has been performed on the basis of the structure of Sr2Mn3As2O2 (A2(B2C2)(B'O2)). The oxide planes are similar to those of CuO2 in high-temperature superconducting cuprates while the intermetallic layers - to those of Ni2B2 in low-temperature superconducting borocarbides RNi2B2C and Fe2As2 layers in high-temperature superconducting oxypnictides RFeAsO1-xFx.
We have measured upper-critical-field $H_{\text c2}$, specific heat C, and tunneling spectra of the intermetallic perovskite superconductor MgCNi${}_3$ with a superconducting transition temperature $T_{\text c}\approx 7.6$ K. Based on these measurements and relevant theoretical relations, we have evaluated various superconducting parameters for this material, including the thermodynamic critical field $H_{\text c}$(0), coherence length $ξ$(0), penetration depth $λ$(0), lower-critical-field $H_{\text c1}$(0), and Ginsberg-Landau parameter $κ$(0). From the specific heat, we obtain the Debye temp…
We consider a system where structural polymorphism suggests the possible existence of superconductivity through the implied structural instability. SrPd2Bi2 has two poly-morphs which can be controlled by the synthesis temperature: a tetragonal form (CaBe2Ge2-type) and a monoclinic form (BaAu2Sb2-type). Though the crystallographic difference between the two forms may at first seem trivial, we show that tetragonal SrPd2Bi2 is superconducting at 2.0 K whereas monoclinic SrPd2Bi2 is not. We rationalize this finding and place it in context with other 1-2-2 phases
In a recent paper (Phys. Rev. {\bf B 67}, 094502 (2003)) Mao et al. investigated the bias-dependent conductance of mechanical junctions between superconducting MgCNi$_3$ and a sharp W tip. They interpreted their results in terms of 'single-particle tunneling'. We show it is more likely that current transport through those junctions is determined by thermal effects due to the huge normal-state resistivity of MgCNi$_3$. Therefore no conclusion can be drawn about the possible unconventional pairing or strong-coupling superconductivity in MgCNi$_3$.
The article is focused on low temperature intermetallic A15 superconducting wires development for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, NMR, and Nuclear Magnetic Imaging, MRI, magnets and also on cryogen-free magnets. There are many other applications which would benefit from new development such as future Large Hadron Collider to be built from A15 intermetallic conductors. This paper highlights the current status of development of the niobium based intermetallics with special attention to Nb 3 (Al 1-x, Ge x). Discussion is focused on the materials science aspects of conductor manufacture, such as b-pha…
The band structure of the new perovskite-like superconductor MgCNi$_{3}$ was studied by the self-consistent FP-LMTO method. The superconducting properties of MgCNi$_{3}$ are associated with an intensive peak in the density of Ni3d states near the Fermi level. The absence of superconductivity for nonstoichiometric compositions MgC$_{1-x}$Ni$_{3}$ is due to the transition of the system to the magnetic state. The possibility of superconductivity was discussed for intermetallics ScBNi$_{3}$, InBNi$_{3}$, MgCCo$_{3}$ and MgCCu$_{3}$ which are isostructural with MgCNi$_{3}$.
Crystals of superconducting Mo$_{8}$Ga$_{41}$ ($T_{\text{c}}=9.8$ K) and Mo$_{\text{8-x}}$V$_{\text{x}}$Ga$_{41}$ limited solid solution $(x_{\text{max}}=1.9(2))$ have been grown from the high-temperature Ga flux and confirmed to have the V$_{8}$Ga$_{41}$ type of crystal structure at room temperature. Thermodynamic and transport measurements as well as electronic structure calculations were performed to investigate both normal- and superconducting-state properties of Mo$_{8}$Ga$_{41}$. The discontinuity in the heat capacity at $T_{\text{c}}$, $Δc_{\text{p}}/γ_{\text{N}}T_{\text{c}}=2.83$ in ze…
We measured the temperature dependence of the magnetic penetration depth of La3Pd4Si4 down to 0.02 Tc. We observe a temperature-independent behaviour below 0.25 Tc, which is firm evidence for a nodeless superconducting gap in this material. The data display a very small anomaly around 1 K which we attribute to the possible presence of a superconducting impurity phase. The superfluid density is well described by a two-phase model, considering La3Pd4Si4 and the impurity phase. The present analysis suggests that the superconducting energy gap of La3Pd4Si4 is isotropic, as expected for conventiona…
In this review article we present a survey of unconventional superconductors and their coexistence behaviour with magnetism. We focus on Ce- and U-based heavy fermion superconductors, in addition we discuss the rare earth borocarbide and skutterudite superconductors. We show that heavy fermion behaviour in Ce- and U- compounds should be described differently. While the Kondo-lattice model with localised 4f-electrons is appropriate for Ce-compounds, dual models including localised and itinerant 5f-electrons are necessary for U-compounds. We demonostrate that this leads to consistent results for…
The synthesis of materials in high-pressure experiments has recently attracted increasing attention, especially since the discovery of record breaking superconducting temperatures in the sulfur-hydrogen and other hydrogen-rich systems. Commonly, the initial precursor in a high pressure experiment contains constituent elements that are known to form compounds at ambient conditions, however the discovery of high-pressure phases in systems immiscible under ambient conditions poses an additional materials design challenge. We performed an extensive multi component $ab\,initio$ structural search in…
Several physical properties of the superconducting Heusler compounds, focusing on two systems (Y, Lu, Sc)Pd2Sn and APd2M, where A=Hf, Zr and M=Al, In, are summarized and compared. The analysis of the data shows the importance of the electron-phonon coupling for superconductivity in this family. We report the superconducting parameters of YPd2Sn, which has the highest Tc among all known Heusler superconductors.
We address the hypothesis that in intermetallic compounds, contrary to a long-standing view that considers electron count and crystal structure type as the only significant chemical criteria for the occurrence of superconductivity, consideration of the actual elements present is a third equally important factor. The importance of chemical identity may seem obvious, especially to chemists, but it has not previously been explicitly tested for intermetallic superconductors. Here we test the hypothesis by searching for and finding a new superconductor in the tetragonal symmetry Hf5Sb3-xMx solid so…
The effect of hydrostatic pressure (P) up to 17 kbar on the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of the newly discovered intermetallic non-oxide perovskite superconductor MgCxNi3 has been reported. The TC is found to increase with increasing P at a rate of dTc/dP ~ 0.0134 to 0.0155 K/kbar depending on the value of carbon content x. The absolute value of dTc/dP for MgCxNi3 is about the same as that of intermetallic RNi2B2C (R = rare earths) and metallic superconductors but about one order of magnitude smaller than that of the most recently and intensively studied superconductor MgB2. How…
The electronic structures of R2Fe3Si5 (where R = Lu, Tm, Er, Tb, Yb) intermetallics have been calculated from first principles in local-spin density (LSDA) and LSDA + U approaches. The majority of rare-earth iron silicides, except for the heavy-fermion Yb-based compound, exhibit almost equal values of density of states at the Fermi level (EF) as well as very similar Fermi surface topology. The electronic structure around EF in the 235-type Fe-based compounds is completely dominated by the Fe 3d states. Thus the different superconducting properties of some members of the R2Fe3Si5 family are rat…
We present detailed thermodynamic and transport measurements on single crystals of the recently discovered binary intermetallic superconductor, SrSn4. We find this material to be a slightly anisotropic three-dimensional, strongly-coupled, possibly multi-band, superconductor. Hydrostatic pressure causes a decrease in the superconducting transition temperature at the rate of -0.068 K/kbar. Band structure calculations are consistent with experimental data on Sommerfeld coefficient and upper superconducting critical field anisotropy and suggest complex, multi-sheet Fermi surface formed by four ban…
The discovery of the first high critical temperature (Tc) transition metal diboride superconductor, MgB2 structure alpha-MoB2 under pressure with Tc up to 32 K at 100 GPa, provides new input into some unexplained aspects of electron-phonon coupling in intermetallic compounds. We establish that MoB2 is a phonon-mediated superconductor but has little in common with MgB2 (Tc=40 K at zero pressure). MoB2 is a strongly metallic, three dimensional, multi-Fermi surface material, becoming of additional interest because it displays a frequency separation of Mo and B vibrations that mirrors that of meta…
Superconductors have the potential to revolutionize technology due to their ability to have zero electrical resistance. However, superconductor materials require either low temperatures or high pressures to function in a superconductive state. Thus, researchers are now on the search for the first-ever room temperature, ambient pressure superconductor. Yet, recent discoveries have only shown superconductors that work at low temperatures with ambient pressure or room temperature with high pressures. The region between these two extremes has not been identified due to the number of variables that…
We investigated pressure effects on transition temperature (Tc) of the new iron-based superconductor K0.8Fe2Se2 using a BeCu/NiCrAl hybrid-type clamped piston-cylinder cell. The Tc(onset) was 33K at 0.85 GPa. With increasing pressure, Tc(onset) gradually increased and reached 36.6 K at 2.03 GPa.
In this communication, we report the temperature dependence (3 to 300K) of the electrical resistivity of BiS2 based layered PrO0.5F0.5BiS2 superconductor at ambient and hydrostatic pressure of up to 3GPa. It is observed that Tc increases with pressure at the rate of dTc/dP=0.45/GPa for PrO0.5F0.5BiS2 compound. It is envisaged that one may increase the Superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of recently discovered PrO0.5F0.5BiS2 superconductor by applying hydrostatic external or internal chemical pressure via suitable on site substitutions.
We report impact of hydrostatic pressure on the newly discovered BiS2 based superconductors. In last couple of years the new BiS2 based superconductor attracted great attention of the condensed matter physics community. These new layered BiS2-based compounds are very sensitive to the concentration of carriers doping and pressure that cause profound changes in their physical properties with appearance of superconductivity in the vicinity of their insulating/semiconducting state. The BiS2-based new compounds are expected to provide us with the next stage of exploring new superconductors and to d…
Since the discovery of superconductivity in a high-entropy alloy (HEA) Ti-Zr-Nb-Hf-Ta in 2014, the community of superconductor science has explored new HEA superconductors to find the merit of the HEA states on superconducting properties. Since 2018, we have developed HEA-type compounds as superconductors or thermoelectric materials. As well known, compounds like intermetallic compounds or layered compounds are composed of multi crystallographic sites. In a HEA-type compounds, one or more sites are alloyed and total mixing entropy satisfies with the criterion of HEA. Herein, we summarize the s…
We report the pressure effect in Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+δ (Bi-2223) single crystal with a small amount of intergrowth of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ (Bi-2212). Their superconducting transition temperatures Tcs showed a domelike shape as a function of pressure, which showed a good agreement with the general relation between the carrier concentration and Tc. Our experimental results indicate that high pressure can induce effective carrier doping into the multilayered high-Tc cuprate superconductor
Hydrogen-based superconductors provide a route to the long-sought goal of room-temperature superconductivity, but the high pressures required to metallize these materials limit their immediate application. For example, carbonaceous sulfur hydride, the first room-temperature superconductor, can reach a critical temperature (Tc) of 288 K only at the extreme pressure of 267 GPa. The next recognized challenge is the realization of room-temperature superconductivity at significantly lower pressures. Here, we propose a strategy for the rational design of high-temperature superconductors at low press…
We report magnetization measurements under high hydrostatic pressure in the newly discovered pyrochlore superconductor RbOs_2O_6 (T_c\simeq6.3K at p=0). A pronounced and {\it positive} pressure effect (PE) on T_c with dT_c/dp =0.090(1)K/kbar was observed, whereas no PE on the magnetic penetration depth λwas detected. The relative pressure shift of T_c [ dlnT_c/dp \simeq 1.5%/kbar] is comparable with the highest values obtained for highly underdoped high-temperature cuprate superconductors. Our results suggest that RbOs_2O_6 is an adiabatic BCS-type superconductor.
We show that polycrystalline GeSb2Te4 in the fcc phase (f-GST), which is an insulator at low temperature at ambient pressure, becomes a superconductor at elevated pressures. Our study of the superconductor to insulator transition versus pressure at low temperatures reveals a second order quantum phase transition with linear scaling (critical exponent close to unity) of the transition temperature with the pressure above the critical zero-temperature pressure. In addition, we demonstrate that at higher pressures the f-GST goes through a structural phase transition via amorphization to bcc GST (b…
We report the preparation method of, and boron isotope effect for MgB$_2$, a new binary intermetallic superconductor with a remarkably high superconducting transition temperature $T_c$($^{10}$B) = 40.2 K. Measurements of both temperature dependent magnetization and specific heat reveal a 1.0 K shift in $T_c$ between Mg$^{11}$B$_2$ and Mg$^{10}$B$_2$. Whereas such a high transition temperature might imply exotic coupling mechanisms, the boron isotope effect in MgB$_2$ is consistent with the material being a phonon-mediated BCS superconductor.
$^{19}$F NMR measurements in SmFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_x$, for $0.15\leq x\leq 0.2$, are presented. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ increases upon cooling with a trend analogous to the one already observed in CeCu$_{5.2}$Au$_{0.8}$, a quasi two-dimensional heavy-fermion intermetallic compound with an antiferromagnetic ground-state. In particular, the behaviour of the relaxation rate either in SmFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_x$ or in CeCu$_{5.2}$Au$_{0.8}$ can be described in the framework of the self-consistent renormalization theory for weakly itinerant electron systems. Remarkably, no effect of t…
New TbFeAs(O,F) and DyFeAs(O,F) superconductors with critical temperatures Tc= 46 and 45 K and very high critical fields over 100 T have been prepared at 1100- 1150C and 10-12 GPa, demonstrating that high pressure may be used to synthesise late rare earth derivatives of the recently reported RFeAs(O,F) (R = La - Nd, Sm, Gd) high temperature superconductors.
We report specific-heat experiments under the influence of high pressure on a strongly underdoped Co-substituted BaFe2As2 single crystal. This allows us to study the phase diagram of this iron pnictide superconductor with a bulk thermodynamic method and pressure as a clean control parameter. The data show large specific-heat anomalies at the superconducting transition temperature, which proves the bulk nature of pressure-induced superconductivity. The transitions in the specific heat are sharper than in resistivity, which demonstrates the necessity of employing bulk thermodynamic methods to ex…
An iron-based superconductor LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$H$_x$ (0 $\leq x \leq$ 0.6) undergoes two antiferromagnetic (AF) phases upon H doping. We investigated the second AF phase ($x$=0.6) using NMR techniques under pressure. At pressures up to 2 GPa, the ground state is a spin-density-wave state with a large gap; however, the gap closes at 4.0 GPa, suggesting a pressure-induced quantum critical point. Interestingly, the gapped excitation coexists with gapless magnetic fluctuations at pressures between 2 and 4 GPa. This coexistence is attributable to the lift up of the $d_{xy}$ orbital to the Fermi level,…
High-density bulk materials of a newly discovered 40K intermetallic MgB2 superconductor were prepared by high pressure sintering. Superconducting transition with the onset temperature of 39K was confirmed by both magnetic and resistive measurements. Magnetization versus field (M-H) curve shows the behavior of a typical Type II superconductor and the lower critical field Hc1(0) estimated from M-H curve is 0.032T. The bulk sample shows good connection between grains and critical current density Jc estimated from the magnetization hysteresis using sample size was 2x104A/cm2 at 20K and 1T. Upper c…
The effect of pressure on the structural properties of lanthanum sesquicarbide La2C3 (T_c = 13 K) has been investigated at room temperature by angle-dispersive powder x-ray diffraction in a diamond anvil cell. The compound remains in the cubic Pu2C3-type structure at pressures up to at least 30 GPa. The corresponding equation of state parameters are reported and discussed in terms of phase stability of La2C3. Pressure-volume data of the impurity phase LaC2 are reported also for pressures up to 13 GPa.
High-pressure electrical resistivity, r(T), measurements on intermetallic Pr(Co, Ni, Pt)2B2C compounds were performed down to 2K. At room pressure the r(T) in a-b direction curves for the non superconducting Pr(Co, Ni)2B2C compounds exhibit magnetic correlations at about 10 and 4 K, respectively. At low temperatures, PrCo2B2C shows a large spin-dependent electron scattering in comparison to PrNi2B2C. Under applied pressure the magnetic scattering tends to be suppressed more effectively in PrCo2B2C than in PrNi2 B2C. The low temperature behavior of r(T,P) for PrNi2B2C and PrCo2B2C suggests a sp…
A random forest regression based supervised machine learning method to predict experimental critical temperature of superconductivity from the electronic band structure, as obtained from Density Functional Theory, is demonstrated. This complementarity between experiment and theory draws inspiration from the merging of Kohn-Sham and Bogoliubov-De Gennes equations [W. Kohn, W, EKU Gross, and LN Oliveira, Int. J. of Quant. Chem., 36(23), 611-615 (1989)]. Features in the Kohn-Sham Density Functional Theory band structure away from EF becoming decisive for the superconducting gap demonstrates this …
$^{11}B$ NMR and nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate (NSLR) are reported at 7.2 Tesla and 1.4 Tesla in powder samples of the intermetallic compound $MgB_2$ with superconducting transition temperature in zero field $T_c$ = 39.2 K. From the first order quadrupole perturbed NMR specrum a quadrupole coupling frequency of 835 $\pm$ 5 kHz is obtained. The Knight shift is very small and it decreases to zero in the superconducting phase. The NSLR follows a linear law with $T_1T$ = 165 $\pm$ 10 (sec K) . The results in the normal phase indicate a negligible $s$-character of the wave function of the co…
In our desire to give a new suggestion for H-based superconductors experiments we present a theoretical framework for understanding the impact of an applied electric field on pressured hydride superconductors. We study a material at pressure $p$, when it possesses insulator-superconductor transition, at the respective superconducting critical temperature $T_{cr}$. The theory shows the applied electric field penetrates the material and forces the Cooper pairs to Bose condensate. If one applies an electric field and then increases the temperature, the theory predicts novel critical temperature $…
We investigate the external hydrostatic pressure effect on the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of new layered superconductors Bi4O4S3 and NdO0.5F0.5BiS2. Though the Tc is found to have moderate decrease from 4.8 K to 4.3 K (dTconset/dP = -0.28 K/GPa) for Bi4O4S3 superconductor, the same increases from 4.6 K to 5 K (dTconset/dP = 0.44 K/GPa) upto 1.31 GPa followed by a sudden decrease from 5 K to 4.7 K upto 1.75 GPa for NdO0.5F0.5BiS2 superconductor. The variation of Tc in these systems may be correlated to increase or decrease of the charge carriers in the density of states under e…
A review of high-pressure studies on Fe-pnictide superconductors is given. The pressure effects on the magnetic and superconducting transitions are discussed for different classes of doped and undoped FeAs-compounds, ROFeAs (R = rare earth), AeFe2As2 (Ae = Ca, Sr, Ba), and AFeAs (A = Li, Na). Pressure tends to decrease the magnetic transition temperature in the undoped or only slightly doped compounds. The superconducting Tc increases with pressure for underdoped FeAs-pnictides, remains approximately constant for optimal doping, and decreases linearly in the overdoped range. The undoped LaOFeA…
We report the effect of hydrostatic pressure (0-1.97GPa) on the superconductivity of BiS2 based CeO0.5F0.5BiS2 compound. The CeO0.5F0.5BiS2 superconductor was synthesized by the solid state reaction route and the compound is crystallized in tetragonal P4/nmm space group. The studied compound shows superconductivity with transition temperature of 2.5K (Tconset) at ambient pressure, which has been enhanced to 8 K at applied pressure of 1.97 GPa. The observed normal resistivity exhibited semiconducting behavior. The data of normal state resistivity R(T) has been fitted by activation type equation…
A unique platform for investigating the correlation between the antiferromagnetic (AFM) and superconducting (SC) states in high temperature superconductors is created by the discovery of alkaline iron selenide superconductors which are composed of an AFM insulating phase and a SC phase separated spatially. Our previous studies showed that pressure can fully suppress the superconductivity of ambient-pressure superconducting phase (SC-I) and AFM order simultaneously, then induce another superconducting phase (SC-II) at higher pressure. Consequently, the connection between the two superconducting…
The effect of pressure on the magnetic penetration depth $λ$ was tested in the hole-doped superconductor YBa2Cu3O(7-d) and in the electron-doped one Sr0.9La0.1CuO2 by means of magnetization measurements. Whereas a large change of $λ$ was found in YBa2Cu3O(7-d), confirming the non-adiabatic character of the electron-phonon coupling in hole-doped superconductors, the same quantity is not affected by pressure in the electron-doped Sr0.9La0.1CuO2, suggesting a close similarity of the latter to conventional adiabatic BCS superconductors. The present results imply a remarkable difference between the…
Investigations of non-adiabatic effects by including vertex corrections in the standard Eliashberg theory show that high phonon frequency is unfavorable to superconductivity in regime of strong vertex correction. This means that it is hard to find high-transition-temperature superconductors in the compounds with light elements if the non-adiabatic effects are strong. The interplay interaction between non-adiabatic effect and Coulomb interaction makes the transition temperature of silane superconductor not so high as predicted by the standard Eliashberg theory.
In the present paper we report comprehensive analysis of the thermodynamic properties of novel hydrogen dominant potassium hydride superconductor (KH$_{6}$). Our computations are conducted within the Eliashberg theory which yields quantitative estimations of the most important thermodynamic properties of superconducting phase. In particular, we observe, that together with the increasing pressure all the thermodynamic properties decrease, e.g. $T_{C} \in \left< 72.91 , 55.50 \right>$ K for $p \in \left< 166 , 300 \right>$ GPa. It is predicted that such decreasing behavior corresponds to the dec…
We apply a method recently derived based on the extended Hubbard Hamiltonian and the BCS approach to obtain the superconducting critical temperature dependence with carrier density for the HgBaCuO compounds. We show that this procedure can be used to study pressure effect with the assumption that pressure changes the supercondutor gap. The results reproduce well the experimental data for the whole doping regime and the high and low pressure dependence.
We present an experimental study of the superconducting properties of NiBi3 as a function of pressure by means of resistivity and magnetization measurements and combine our results with DFT calculations of the band structure under pressure. We find a moderate suppression of the critical temperature Tc from ~ 4.1K to ~ 3K by pressures up to 2GPa. By taking into account the change of the band structure as a function of pressure, we argue that the decrease in Tc is consistent with conventional, electron-phonon-mediated BCS-type superconductivity.
The classical Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer and Eliashberg theories of the electron-phonon-mediated superconductivity are based on the Migdal theorem, which is an assumption that the energy of charge carriers, $k{_B}T{_F}$, significantly exceeds the phononic energy, $\hbar{ω{_D}} $, of the crystalline lattice. This assumption, which is also known as adiabatic approximation, implies that the superconductor exhibits fast charge carriers and slow phonons. This picture is valid for pure metals and metallic alloys because these superconductors exhibit $\hbar{ω{_D}}$/$k{_B}T{_F}<0.01$. However, n-type d…
We report the impact of hydrostatic pressure on the superconductivity and normal state resistivity of FeTe0.5Se0.5 superconductor. At the ambient pressure the FeTe0.5Se0.5 compound shows the superconducting transition temperature Tconset at above 13K and TcR=0 at 11.5K. We measure pressure dependent resistivity from 250K to 5K, which shows that the normal state resistivity increases initially for the applied pressures of up to 0.55GPa and then the same is decreased monotonically with increasing pressure of up to 1.97GPa. On the other hand the superconducting transition temperatures (Tconset an…
Pressure effects on a recently discovered BiS2-based superconductor Bi2(O,F)S2 (Tc = 5.1 K) were examined via two different methods; high pressure resistivity measurement and high pressure annealing. The effects of these two methods on the superconducting properties of Bi2(O,F)S2 were significantly different although in both methods hydrostatic pressure is applied to the sample by the cubic-anvil-type apparatus. In high pressure resistivity measurement, Tc linearly decreased at the rate of -1.2 K GPa-1. In contrast, the Tc of 5.1 K is maintained after high pressure annealing under 2 GPa and 47…
The magnetic and iron vacancy orders in superconducting (Tl,Rb)2Fe4Se5 single-crystals are investigated by using a high-pressure neutron diffraction technique. Similar to the temperature effect, the block antiferromagnetic order gradually decreases upon increasing pressure while the Fe vacancy superstructural order remains intact before its precipitous disappearance at the critical pressure Pc = 8.3 GPa. Combined with previously determined Pc for superconductivity, our phase diagram under pressure reveals the concurrence of the block AFM order, the iron vacancy order and superconductivity for …
We report a high-pressure transport study of the upper-critical field, $B_{c2}(T)$, of the topological superconductor Sr$_{0.15}$Bi$_2$Se$_3$ ($T_c = 3.0$ K). $B_{c2}(T)$ was measured for magnetic fields directed along two orthogonal directions, $a$ and $a^*$, in the trigonal basal plane. While superconductivity is rapidly suppressed at the critical pressure $p_c \sim 3.5$ GPa, the pronounced two-fold basal-plane anisotropy $B_{c2}^a/B_{c2}^{a^*} = 3.2$ at $T=0.3$ K, recently reported at ambient pressure (Pan et al., 2016), is reinforced and attains a value of $\sim 5$ at the highest pressure …
We use the two dimensional extended Hubbard Hamiltonian with the position of the attractive potential as a variable parameter with a BCS type approach to study the interplay between the superconductor transition temperature $T_c$ and hole content for high temperature superconductors. This novel method gives some insight on the range and intensity of the Cooper pair interaction and why different compounds have different values for their measured coherence lengths and it describes well the experimental results of the superconducting phase diagram $T_c \times n$. The calculations may also be used…
We report the pressure dependence of the structural parameters of the non-oxide perovskite superconductor MgCNi$_{3}$ up to 32 GPa using a diamond anvil cell and synchrotron x-rays at room temperature. The structure of the compound remains in the Pm-3m cubic symmetry throughout the pressure range. The bulk modulus $B_{0}=156.9\pm0.2$GPa with $B_{0}^{\prime}=9.8$obtained by fitting the pressure-volume data is in good agreement with theoretical calculations reported earlier. An anomalous shift of the (111) and (200) lines observed above 9 GPa indicates a possible local short range distortion tha…
A wide variety of superconducting oxides are used to test a general model of high pressure induced transition temperature (T c) changes. The T c 's vary from a low of 24 K to a high of 164 K. Although the model is capable of predicting both increases and decreases in T c with pressure, only superconductors that exhibit an increase are considered at this time. Predictions are made of the maximum T^ cP theo for 15 super-conductors as a function of their compressibilities. The theoretical results generally agree well with experiment. This model of T c as a function of pressure is derived from a r…
We have investigated the pressure dependence of ac and dc susceptibilities of the heavy-fermion superconductor CePt3Si (Tc= 0.75 K) that coexists with antiferromagnetism (TN = 2.2 K). As hydrostatic pressure is increased, Tc first decreases rapidly, then rather slowly near the critical pressure Pc = 0.6 GPa and shows a stronger decrease again at higher pressures, where Pc is the pressure at which TN becomes zero. A transition width and a difference in the two transition temperatures defined in the form of structures in the out-of-phase component of ac susceptibilities also become small near Pc…
The evolution of the specific-heat anomaly in the overdoped range of a single crystal of the high-temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3O7 has been studied under influence of pressure up to 10 GPa, using AC calorimetry in a Bridgman-type pressure cell. We show that the specific-heat jump as well as the bulk Tc are reduced with increasing pressure in accordance with a simple charge-transfer model. This new method enables us through pressure-induced charge transfer to study the doping dependence of the superconducting transition, as well as the evolution of the superconducting condensation energy on…
Tetragonal FeSe is a superconductor with a transition temperature Tc of 8 K and shows a huge enhancement of Tc with applying pressure. Tetragonal FeTe has a structure very analogous to superconducting FeSe, but does not show superconducting transition. We investigated the pressure effect of resistivity on FeTe. The resistivity at room temperature decreased with increasing pressure. An anomaly in resistivity around 80 K shifted towards a lower temperature with increasing pressure.
