We study charmonia in electromagnetic and rotational fields in the frame of a potential model. Different from the temperature field which is isotropic and leads to the well-known charmonium dissociation, the electromagnetic and rotational fields break down the radial symmetry, and the competition between strong interaction and electromagnetic and rotational interaction in the direction of Lorentz force makes the charmonia transit from an isotropic bound state of strong interaction with positive binding energy to an anisotropic bound state of electromagnetic and rotational interaction with negative binding energy. The transition seems possible to be realized in high energy nuclear collisions.
Due to larger mass and earlier production, heavy quark(quarkonium) can be sensitive probes to investigate the fast decaying electromagnetic and vortical fields produced in heavy-ion collisions. The non-relativistic Schroedinger-like equation for heavy quarks under strong electromagnetic fields in the rotating frame is deduced and used to construct the two-body equation for the charmonium system. The effective potential between charm and anti-charm becomes anisotropic in electromagnetic and vortical fields, especially along the direction of the Lorentz force. The vorticity will affect this asym…
We study electromagnetic field effect on charmonium gluon-dissociation in quark-gluon plasma. With the effective Hamiltonian derived from QCD multipole expansion under an external electromagnetic field, we first solve the two-body Schrödinger equation for a pair of charm quarks with mean field potentials for color and electromagnetic interactions and obtain the charmonium binding energies and wave functions, and then calculate the gluon-dissociation cross-section and decay width by taking the color electric and magnetic dipole interactions as perturbations above the mean field and employing Fe…
The charmonium spectrum is calculated with two nonrelativistic quark models, the linear potential model and the screened potential model. Using the obtained wavefunctions, we evaluate the electromagnetic transitions of charmonium states up to $4S$ multiplet. The higher multipole contributions are included by a multipole expansion of the electromagnetic interactions. Our results are in reasonable agreement with the measurements. As conventional charmonium states, the radiative decay properties of the newly observed charmonium-like states, such as $X(3823)$, $X(3872)$, $X(4140/4274)$, are discus…
In this work, we explore macroscopic transport phenomena associated with a rotational system in the presence of an external orthogonal electromagnetic field. Simply based on the lowest Landau level approximation, we derive nontrivial expressions for chiral density and various currents consistently by adopting small angular velocity expansion or Kubo formula. While the generation of anomalous electric current is due to the pseudo gauge field effect of the spin-rotation coupling, the chiral density and current can be simply explained with the help of Lorentz boosts. Finally, Lorentz covariant fo…
We study the electromagnetic (EM) transitions of the $nS$, $nP$ ($n\leq 3$), and $nD$ ($n\leq 2$) charmonium states with a constituent quark model. We obtain a reasonable description of the EM transitions of the well-established charmonium states $J/ψ$, $ψ(2S)$, $χ_{cJ}(1P)$, $h_c(1P)$ and $ψ(3770)$. We find that the M2 transitions give notable corrections to some E1 dominant processes by interfering with the E1 transitions. Our predictions of EM decay properties for the higher charmonium states are also presented and compared with other model predictions. In particular, we discuss the EM deca…
Charmonia with different transverse momentum $p_T$ usually comes from different mechanisms in the relativistic heavy ion collisions. This work tries to review the theoretical studies on quarkonium evolutions in the deconfined medium produced in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions. The charmonia with high $p_T$ are mainly from the initial hadronic collisions, and therefore sensitive to the initial energy density of the bulk medium. For those charmonia within $0.1<p_T<5$ GeV/c at the energies of Large Hadron Collisions (LHC), They are mainly produced by the recombination of charm and anti-charm quarks in …
Rotational structures of even-even $^{148-160}$Nd nuclei are studied with the self-consistent deformed Hartree-Fock (HF) and angular momentum (J) projection model. Spectra of ground band, recently observed $K=4^{-}$, $K=5^{-}$ and a few more excited, positive and negative parity bands have been studied upto high spin values. Apart from these detailed electromagnetic properties (like E2, M1 matrix elements) of all the bands have been obtained. There is substantial agreement between our model calculations and available experimental data. Predictions are made about the band structures and electro…
The violation of the rotational symmetry constraint of the matrix elements of the plus component of the vector current, in the Drell-Yan frame, is studied using an analytical and covariant model of spin-1 composite particle. The contributions from pair terms or zero modes, if missed cause the violation of the rotational symmetry. We reanalyze the prescription by Grach and Kondratyuk to extract form factors which can eliminate theses contributions in particular models.
We develop a formalism to calculate electromagnetic (EM) transition rates for rotational-vibrational models of nuclei. The formalism is applied to recently proposed models of Carbon-12 and Oxygen-16 which are inspired by nuclear dynamics in the Skyrme model. We compare the results to experimental data, as well as other nuclear models. The results for Carbon-12 are in good agreement with the data across all models, making it difficult to differentiate the models. More experimental data is needed to do this, and we suggest which transitions would be most interesting to measure. The models of Oxy…
The emergence of rotational bands is observed in no-core configuration interaction (NCCI) calculations for the Be isotopes (7<=A<=12), as evidenced by rotational patterns for excitation energies, electromagnetic moments, and electromagnetic transitions. Yrast and low-lying excited bands are found. The results indicate well-developed rotational structure in NCCI calculations, using the JISP16 realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction within finite, computationally-accessible configuration spaces.
Rotational bands have been observed to emerge in ab initio no-core configuration interaction (NCCI) calculations for p-shell nuclei, as evidenced by rotational patterns for excitation energies, electromagnetic moments, and electromagnetic transitions. We investigate the ab initio emergence of nuclear rotation in the Be isotopes, focusing on 9Be for illustration, and make use of basis extrapolation methods to obtain ab initio predictions of rotational band parameters for comparison with experiment. We find robust signatures for rotational motion, which reproduce both qualitative and quantitativ…
Through ab initio approaches in nuclear theory, we may now seek to quantitatively understand the wealth of nuclear collective phenomena starting from the underlying internucleon interactions. No-core configuration interaction (NCCI) calculations for p-shell nuclei give rise to rotational bands, as evidenced by rotational patterns for excitation energies, electromagnetic moments, and electromagnetic transitions. In this review, NCCI calculations of 7-9Be are used to illustrate and explore ab initio rotational structure, and the resulting predictions for rotational band properties are compared w…
No-core configuration interaction (NCCI) calculations for p-shell nuclei give rise to rotational bands, identified by strong intraband E2 transitions and by rotational patterns for excitation energies, electromagnetic moments, and electromagnetic transitions. However, convergence rates differ significantly for different rotational observables and for different rotational bands. The choice of internucleon interaction may also substantially impact the convergence rates. Consequently, there is a substantial gap between simply observing the qualitative emergence of rotation in ab initio calculatio…
We study electromagnetic transitions of excited baryons in a deformed oscillator quark model, where baryon excited states are described as rotational bands of deformed intrinsic states. We describe all necessary tools to compute transition amplitudes in multipole basis, which are then related to the commonly used helicity amplitudes. We pay a special attention on the sign of the amplitudes as well as their absolute values by computing the photon and pion couplings simultaneously. We have found that the effect of deformation on the transition amplitudes is rather weak. The difficulty in reprodu…
Spectroscopic observables such as electromagnetic transitions strengths can be related to the properties of the intrinsic mean-field wave function when the latter are strongly deformed, but the standard rotational formulas break down when the deformation decreases. Nevertheless there is a well-defined, non-zero, spherical limit that can be evaluated in terms of overlaps of mean-field intrinsic deformed wave functions. We examine the transition between the spherical limit and strongly deformed one for a range of nuclei comparing the two limiting formulas with exact projection results. We find a…
We calculate reduced $B(E2)$ electromagnetic transition strengths for light nuclei of mass numbers $B=8,12,16,20,24$ and $32$ within the Skyrme model. We find that the predicted transition strengths are of the correct order of magnitude and the computed intrinsic quadrupole moments match the experimentally observed effective nuclear shapes. For the Hoyle state we predict a large $B(E2)\!\uparrow$ value of $0.0521\, \rm{e}^2\rm{b}^2$. For Oxygen-16, we can obtain a quantitative understanding of the ground state rotational band and the rotational excitations of the second spin-0 state, $0_2^+$.
The intensity relations for electromagnetic transition rates in the rotational coupling scheme have been a basic tool to understand the properties of nuclear collective rotations. In particular the correction terms to the leading-order relation give the response of the intrinsic motion to the Coriolis and centrifugal forces. We propose a simple and systematic method to calculate the matrix elements of intrinsic operators entering the generalized intensity relations that uses the microscopic cranking formalism. Examples are given to show the usefulness of the method.
The nuclear wobbling motion is studied from a microscopic viewpoint. It is shown that the expressions not only of the excitation energy but also of the electromagnetic transition rate in the microscopic RPA framework can be cast into the corresponding forms of the macroscopic rotor model. Criteria to identify the rotational band associated with the wobbling motion are given, based on which examples of realistic calculations are investigated and some theoretical predictions are presented.
To describe the ground (gr) and excited states of even-even deformed nuclei with the phenomenological model, which takes into account the mixing ground $(gr)$, $0^{+}_{2}(β_1)$--, $0^{+}_{3}(β_2)$--, $2^{+}_{1}(γ_1)$--, $2^{+}_{2}(γ_2)$-- and $K^π=1^{+}_ν$ rotational bands the calculation has been done for the isotope $^{172}Yb$. The energy specterum is described. The reduced probability of electric quadrupole, monopole and dipole magnetic transitions from the states $0^{+}_ν$ and $2^{+}_ν$ - bands to the ground $(gr)$ state band is calculated. A non adiabatic effect in the energy and electrom…
We describe electromagnetic and favored α-transitions to rotational bands in odd-mass nuclei built upon a single particle state with angular momentum projection $Ω=\frac{1}{2}$ in the region $88 \le Z \le 98$. We use the particle coupled to an even-even core approach described by the Coherent State Model (CSM) and the coupled channels method to estimate partial $α$-decay widths. We reproduce the energy levels of the rotational band where favored $α$-transitions occur for 26 nuclei and predict B (E2) values for electromagnetic transitions to the bandhead using a deformation parameter and a Hami…
We use the two-alpha cluster model to describe the properties of $^{8}$Be. The rotational energy sequence of the $(0^+,2^+,4^+)$ resonances are reproduced with the complex energy scaling technique for Ali-Bodmer and Buck-potentials. However, both static and transition probabilities are far from the rotational values. We trace this observation to the prominent continuum properties of the $2^+$ and $4^+$ resonances. They resemble free continuum solutions although still exhibiting strong collective rotational character. We compare with cluster models and discuss concepts of rotations in the conti…
An effective Lagrangian term for the electron magnetic moment, and more generally electromagnetic form factors, is calculated by considering the background field method. Two Fierz transformations are performed for a one-photon exchange interaction, and the ambiguity in doing such transformations is exploited. The resulting effective interaction may exhibit an approximated rotational chiral symmetry either for the scalar-pseudoscalar currents interaction or for the vector-axial currents interaction. The leading terms in the expansion of the fermion determinant yield the leading QED effective ac…
The intraband electromagnetic transitions in the framework of collective Hamiltonian for chiral and wobbling modes are calculated. By going beyond the mean field approximation on the orientations of rotational axis, the collective Hamiltonian provides the descriptions on both yrast band and collective excitation bands. For a system with one $h_{11/2}$ proton particle and one $h_{11/2}$ neutron hole coupled to a triaxial rotor ($γ=-30^\circ$), the intraband electromagnetic transitions given by the one-dimensional and two-dimensional collective Hamiltonian are compared to the results by the tilt…
In the framework of the interacting boson model the three transitional regions (rotational-vibrational, rotational-$γ$-unstable and, vibrational-$γ$-unstable transitions) are reanalyzed. A new kind of plot is presented for studying phase transitions in finite systems such as atomic nuclei. The importance of analyzing binding energies and not only energy spectra and electromagnetic transitions, describing transitional regions is emphasized. We finally discuss a number of realistic examples.
The summed strength for transitions from the ground state of $^{12}C$ via the operators $\vec{s}t, \vec{\ell}t, rY't, r[Y's]^λt$ and $r[Y'\ell]^λt$ are calculated using the $ΔN = 0$ rotational model. If we choose the z component of the isospin operator $t_{z}$, the above operators are relevant to electromagnetic transitions; if we choose $t_{+}$ they are relevant to weak transitions such as neutrino capture. In going from the spherical limit to the asymptotic (oblate) limit the strength for the operator $\vec{s} t$ decreases steadily to zero; the strength for the operator $\vec{\ell}τ$ (scisso…
A separable form of the Gogny pairing force is implemented in tilted axis cranking covariant density functional theory for the description of rotational bands in open shell nuclei. The developed method is used to investigate the yrast sequence of 109Ag for an example. The experimental energy spectrum, angular momenta, and electromagnetic transition probabilities are well reproduced by taking into account pairing correlations with the separable pairing force. An abrupt transition of the rotational axis from the long-intermediate plane to the long-short one is obtained and discussed in detail.
We develop an effective field theory (EFT) for nuclear vibrations. The key ingredients - quadrupole degrees of freedom, rotational invariance, and a breakdown scale around the three-phonon level - are taken from data. The EFT is developed for spectra and electromagnetic moments and transitions. We employ tools from Bayesian statistics for the quantification of theoretical uncertainties. The EFT consistently describes spectra and electromagnetic transitions for $^{62}$Ni, $^{98,100}$Ru, $^{106,108}$Pd, $^{110,112,114}$Cd, and $^{118,120,122}$Te within the theoretical uncertainties. This suggest…
