We study approximation theorems for the Euler characteristic of the Vietoris-Rips and Cech filtration. The filtration is obtained from a Poisson or binomial sampling scheme in the critical regime. We apply our results to the smooth bootstrap of the Euler characteristic and determine its rate of convergence in the Kantorovich-Wasserstein distance and in the Kolmogorov distance.
Non-asymptotic bounds for Gaussian and bootstrap approximation have recently attracted significant interest in high-dimensional statistics. This paper studies Berry-Esseen bounds for such approximations with respect to the multivariate Kolmogorov distance, in the context of a sum of $n$ random vectors that are $p$-dimensional and i.i.d. Up to now, a growing line of work has established bounds with mild logarithmic dependence on $p$. However, the problem of developing corresponding bounds with near $n^{-1/2}$ dependence on $n$ has remained largely unresolved. Within the setting of random vector…
In this paper, we derive new, nearly optimal bounds for the Gaussian approximation to scaled averages of $n$ independent high-dimensional centered random vectors $X_1,\dots,X_n$ over the class of rectangles in the case when the covariance matrix of the scaled average is non-degenerate. In the case of bounded $X_i$'s, the implied bound for the Kolmogorov distance between the distribution of the scaled average and the Gaussian vector takes the form $$C (B^2_n \log^3 d/n)^{1/2} \log n,$$ where $d$ is the dimension of the vectors and $B_n$ is a uniform envelope constant on components of $X_i$'s. This study presents functional limit theorems for the Euler characteristic of Vietoris-Rips complexes. The points are drawn from a non-homogeneous Poisson process on $\mathbb{R}^d$, and the connectivity radius governing the formation of simplices is taken as a function of time parameter $t$, which allows us to treat the Euler characteristic as a stochastic process. The setting in which this takes place is that of the critical regime, in which the simplicial complexes are highly connected and have non-trivial topology. We establish two "functional-level" limit theorems, a strong law of large nu…
Given the increments of a simple symmetric random walk $(X_n)_{n\ge0}$, we characterize all possible ways of recycling these increments into a simple symmetric random walk $(Y_n)_{n\ge0}$ adapted to the filtration of $(X_n)_{n\ge0}$. We study the long term behavior of a suitably normalized two-dimensional process $((X_n,Y_n))_{n\ge0}$. In particular, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the process to converge to a two-dimensional Brownian motion (possibly degenerate). We also discuss cases in which the limit is not Gaussian. Finally, we provide a simple necessary and sufficient …
We prove a mean field limit, a law of large numbers and a central limit theorem for a system of point vortices on the 2D torus at equilibrium with positive temperature. The point vortices are formal solutions of a class of equations generalising the Euler equations, and are also known in the literature as generalised inviscid SQG. The mean field limit is a steady solution of the equations, the CLT limit is a stationary distribution of the equations.
We consider Canonical Gibbsian ensembles of Euler point vortices on the 2-dimensional torus or in a bounded domain of R 2 . We prove that under the Central Limit scaling of vortices intensities, and provided that the system has zero global space average in the bounded domain case (neutrality condition), the ensemble converges to the so-called Energy-Enstrophy Gaussian random distributions. This can be interpreted as describing Gaussian fluctuations around the mean field limit of vortices ensembles. The main argument consists in proving convergence of partition functions of vortices and Gaussia…
