Charged particle multiplicity fluctuations in pp collisions at $\sqrt s$ = 13 TeV have been studied by the method of scaled factorial moment for the minimum bias events generated by Ultra Relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model in the pseudo-rapidity (η), azimuthal angle ($ϕ$) and two dimensional anisotropic ($η$-$ϕ$) phase space. Strong intermittent type of fluctuations have been observed for the UrQMD simulated data. Systematic studies of intermittent fluctuations in terms of scaled factorial moments was utilized to extract the anomalous fractal dimension in the pseudo-rapidity (η), azimuthal angle ($ϕ$) and two dimensional anisotropic ($η$-$ϕ$) phase space. Search for the quark-hadron phase transition in the framework of Ginzburg-Landau theory of second-order phase transition by the analysis with the factorial moment method has also been performed.
In this work, we couple Pb-Pb events simulated with the PYTHIA Angantyr event generator at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}=2.76$ and $5.02$~TeV with the hadronic cascade simulator UrQMD to study the effect of the hadronic phase on observables such as charged-particle multiplicity densities, transverse momentum spectra and identified particle ratios, giving special emphasis to short-lived resonances.
Using the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model, we investigate azimuthal correlations in p--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}=5.02$ TeV. Comparison with the experimental data shows that UrQMD can not reproduce the multiplicity dependence of 2- and 4-particle cumulants, especially the transition from positive to negative values of $c_{2}\{4\}$ in high multiplicity events, which has been taken as experimental evidence of collectivity in p--Pb collisions. Meanwhile, UrQMD can not qualitatively describe the differential elliptic flow, $v_{2}(p_{\rm T})$, of all charged …
We report studies of charge-independent (CI) and charge-dependent (CD) two-particle differential number correlation functions, $R_{2} \left( Δη, Δφ\right)$, and transverse momentum correlation functions, $P_2 \left( Δη, Δφ\right)$ of charged particles produced in \PbPb\ collisions at the LHC centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} =$ 2.76 TeV with the UrQMD, AMPT and EPOS models. Model predictions for $R_2$ and $P_2$ correlation functions are presented for inclusive charged hadrons ($h^\pm$) in selected transverse momentum ranges and with full azimuthal coverage in the pseudorapidity range $|…
Using the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics ({\tt UrQMD}) model, we investigate the azimuthal correlations in p--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}=5.02$ TeV. It is shown that the simulated hadronic p--Pb system can not generate the collective flow signatures, but mainly behaves as a non-flow dominant system. However, the characteristic $v_{2}(p_{\rm T})$ mass-ordering of pions, kaons and protons is observed in {\tt UrQMD} simulations, which is the consequence of hadronic interactions and not necessarily associated with strong fluid-like expansions.
An energy dependence of the mean transverse mass $\langle m_T\rangle$ at mid-rapidity in proton-proton ($p+p$) reactions is studied within the ultra-relativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD). The UrQMD model predicts a nonmonotonous dependence of $\langle m_T\rangle$ on collision energy for several hadron species: for $π^+$, $p$, $K^+$, and $Λ$ the mean transverse mass has a maximum at the center of mass energy region $5\le \sqrt{s}\le 8$ GeV. These results are a consequence of an interplay of two contributions: 1) excitations and decays of the baryonic resonances $N^*$ and $Δ$; 2) excit…
The kaon to pion ratio $K^+/π^+$ and the scaled variance $ω^-$ for fluctuations of negatively charged particles are studied within the statistical hadron resonance gas (HRG) model and the Ultra relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) transport model. The calculations are done for p+p, Be+Be, Ar+Sc, and Pb+Pb collisions at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron energy range to reveal the system size dependence of hadron production. For the HRG calculations the canonical ensemble is imposed for all conserved charges. In the UrQMD simulations the centrality selection in nucleus-nucleus collisi…
In high multiplicity nucleus-nucleus collisions baryon-antibaryon annihilation and regeneration occur during the final hadronic expansion phase, thus distorting the initial equilibrium multiplicity ratios. We quantify the modifications employing the hybrid UrQMD transport model and apply them to the grand canonical partition functions of the Statistical Hadronization Model(SHM). We analyze minimum bias and central Pb+Pb collision data at SPS and LHC energy. We explain the Pion to Proton ratio puzzle. We also reproduce the deuteron to proton ratio at LHC energy by the SHM, and by UrQMD after at…
Fluctuations and correlations of conserved charges are sensitive observables for studying the QCD phase transition and critical point in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. We have studied the centrality and energy dependence of mixed-cumulants (up to fourth order) between net-baryon and net-strangeness in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$= 7.7, 11.5, 19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, 200 GeV from UrQMD model. To compare with other theoretical calculations, we normalize these mixed-cumulants by various order cumulants of net-strangeness distributions. We found that the results obtained from UrQMD calculatio…

In this work we use the IP-Glasma+MUSIC+UrQMD framework to systematically study a wide range of hadronic flow observables at 2.76 TeV. In addition to the single particle spectra and anisotropic flow coefficients $v_n$ previously studied in \cite{1609.02958}, we consider event-plane correlations, non-linear response coefficients $χ_{npq}$, and event shape engineering. Taken together, these observables provide a wealth of insight into the collective behavior of the QGP and initial state fluctuations. They shed light on flow fluctuations, flow at fixed system size but different initial geometries…
We point out that the variance of net-baryon distribution normalized by the Skellam distribution baseline, $κ_2[B-\bar{B}]/\langle B+\bar{B}\rangle$, is sensitive to the possible modification of (anti)baryon yields due to $B\bar{B}$ annihilation in the hadronic phase. The corresponding measurements can thus place stringent limits on the magnitude of the $B\bar{B}$ annihilation and its inverse reaction. We perform Monte Carlo simulations of the hadronic phase in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC via the recently developed subensemble sampler + UrQMD afterburner and show that the effect survives in ne…
We study heavy flavor evolution in the quark-gluon plasma matter and the subsequent hadron gas created in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. The motion of heavy quarks inside the QGP is described using our modified Langevin framework that incorporates both collisional and radiative energy loss mechanisms; and the scatterings between heavy mesons and the hadron gas are simulated with the UrQMD model. We find that the hadronic interaction further suppresses the $D$ meson $R_\mathrm{AA}$ at high $p_\mathrm{T}$ and enhances its $v_2$. And our calculations provide good descriptions of experime…
In this note we discuss the rapidity dependence of the initial and final conditions for hydrodynamic evolution as well as the resulting basic hadronic observables in heavy ion collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=72$ GeV in the framework of a viscous hydro+cascade model vHLLE+UrQMD. The resulting rapidity dependences are driven to a big extent by the initial state, which is simulated with the UrQMD cascade. The results can serve as a prediction for future experiments such as the AFTER@LHC or the BES-II program at STAR.
Using the EPOS3 model with UrQMD to describe the hadronic phase, we study the production of short-lived hadronic resonances and the modification of their yields and $p_{T}$ spectra in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. High-multiplicity p-Pb collisions exhibit similar behavior to mid-peripheral Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies, and we find indications of a short-lived hadronic phase in p-Pb collisions that can modify resonance yields and $p_{T}$ spectra through scattering processes. The evolution of resonance production is investigated as a function of the system size, which is rel…
Radiation of dileptons and photons from high energy nuclear collisions provides information on the space-time evolution of the hot dense matter produced therein. We compute this radiation using relativistic hydrodynamics and a coarse-grained version of the microscopic event generator UrQMD, both of which provide a good description of the hadron spectra. The currently most accurate dilepton and photon emission rates from perturbative QCD and from experimentally-based hadronic calculations are used. Comparisons are made to data on central Pb-Pb and Pb-Au collisions taken at the CERN SPS at a bea…
The system size and centrality dependence of multiplicity fluctuations in nuclear collisions at $158A$ GeV as well as the energy dependence for the most central $Pb+Pb$ collisions were studied by the NA49 experiment at CERN SPS. A strong increase of fluctuations was observed with decreasing centrality in $C+C$, $Si+Si$ and $Pb+Pb$ collisions. The string hadronic models (UrQMD, Venus, HIJING, HSD) can not reproduce the observed increase. This may indicate a strong mixing of target and projectile contribution in a broad rapidity range. For the most central collisions at all SPS energies multipli…
We employ a simple kinematic model based on the superposition of $p+p$ collisions, relativistic kinematics, and final-state hadronic rescattering to calculate a number of hadronic observables in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV $Pb+Pb$ collisions. The current model is similar to those used in previous studies, but includes an additional procedure ("squeeze procedure") which modifies the model pseudorapidity distribution to better represent the experimental data. In addition, we vary the model hadronization time ($τ$ = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 fm/c) to gain a better understanding of our systematic uncertainty. We…
We use a hybrid model which relies on QCD effective kinetic theory -- K\oMP\oST -- to dynamically bridge the gap between IP-Glasma initial states and viscous hydrodynamics, for the theoretical interpretation of heavy-ion collision results. The hydrodynamic phase is then followed by dynamical freeze-out handled by UrQMD. It is observed that the new pre-equilibrium/pre-hydro phase does influence the extraction of transport coefficients. We also show how the early dynamics is reflected in photon observables.
Anisotropic flow is sensitive to the shear $(η/s)$ and bulk ($ζ/s$) viscosity of the quark-gluon plasma created in heavy-ion collisions, as well as the initial state of such collisions and hadronization mechanisms. In these proceedings, elliptic ($v_2$) and higher harmonic ($v_3, v_4$) flow coefficients of $π^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$, p$(\overline{\rm{p}})$ and the $ϕ$-meson, are presented for Pb-Pb collisions at the highest-ever center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. Comparisons to hydrodynamic calculations (IP-Glasma, MUSIC, UrQMD) are shown to constrain the initial conditions and…
Microscopic transport approaches are the tool to describe the non-equilibrium evolution in low energy collisions as well as in the late dilute stages of high-energy collisions. Here, a newly developed hadronic transport approach, SMASH (Simulating Many Accelerated Strongly-interacting Hadrons) is introduced. The overall bulk dynamics in low energy heavy ion collisions is shown including the excitation function of elliptic flow employing several equations of state. The implications of this new approach for dilepton production are discussed and preliminary results for afterburner calculations at…
We obtain within the statistical hadronization model the hadron yields $dh/dy$ in heavy ion reactions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76$ TeV. We discuss the dependence both on hadronization temperature $T$, and on critical hadronization pressure $P$. We consider observables distinguishing the hadronization models and conditions.
Predictions and comparisons of hadronic flow observables for Pb+Pb collisions at 2.76 A TeV and 5.02 A TeV are presented using a hydrodynamics + hadronic cascade hybrid approach. Initial conditions are generated via a new formulation of the IP-Glasma model and then evolved using relativistic viscous hydrodynamics and finally fed into transport cascade in the hadronic phase. The results of this work show excellent agreement with the recent charged hadron anisotropic flow measurements from the ALICE collaboration of Pb+Pb collisions at 5.02 A TeV. Event-by-event distributions of charged hadron v…
The dynamical charge fluctuations have been studied in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions by using hadronic model simulations, such as UrQMD and HIJING. The evolution of fluctuations has been calculated at different time steps during the collision as well as different observation window in pseudorapidity (\DelEta). The final state effects on the fluctuations have been investigated by varying $\bigtriangleupη$~ and the time steps with the aim of obtaining an optimum observation window for capturing maximum fluctuations. It is found that $\bigtriangleupη$~ between 2.0 and 3.5 gives the best…
Angular correlations of high-pT hadrons can serve as a probe of interactions of partons with the dense medium produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions but other sources of such correlations exist which can be non-negligible SPS energies. In an attempt to determine the primary source, NA49 has performed an energy and system-size scan of two-particle azimuthal correlations in central Pb+Pb, Si+Si and p+p collisions at 158A GeV, as well as central Pb+Pb collisions at 20A, 30A, 40A and 80A GeV. Moreover, results at 158A GeV have been compared to UrQMD simulations.
We construct a theoretical framework to describe the evolution of heavy flavors produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The in-medium energy loss of heavy quarks is described using our modified Langevin equation that incorporates both quasi-elastic scatterings and the medium-induced gluon radiation. The space-time profiles of the fireball is described by a (2+1)-dimensional hydrodynamics simulation. A hybrid model of fragmentation and coalescence is utilized for heavy quark hadronization, after which the produced heavy mesons together with the soft hadrons produced from the bulk QGP are…
The single inclusive charged hadron pT spectra in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC, predicted by a combined hydrodynamics+perturbative QCD (pQCD) approach are presented.
Electron spectra measured with ALICE at mid-rapidity are used to study the production of hadrons carrying a charm or a beauty quark. The production cross section of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays is measured in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 TeV. Electrons from the beauty decays are identified via the displacement from the interaction vertex. From the electron spectra measured in Pb--Pb collisions, we determine the nuclear modification factor, which is sensitive to the heavy-quark energy loss in a hot strongly interacting medium.
The energy dependence of multiplicity fluctuations was studied for the most central Pb+Pb collisions at 20A, 30A, 40A, 80A and 158A GeV by the NA49 experiment at the CERN SPS. The multiplicity distribution for negatively and positively charged hadrons is significantly narrower than Poisson one for all energies. No significant structure in energy dependence of the scaled variance of multiplicity fluctuations is observed. The measured scaled variance is lower than the one predicted by the grand-canonical formulation of the hadron-resonance gas model. The results for scaled variance are in approx…
Chemical non-equilibrium version of the statistical hadronization model combined with a single-freeze-out scenario is used to analyze the transverse-momentum spectra of pions, kaons and protons produced in heavy-ion collisions at sqrt(sNN) = 2.76 TeV. With the statistical parameters found in earlier studies of hadronic ratios and two new geometric parameters determined by the absolute normalization and slopes of the spectra, we obtain a very good agreement between the data and the model predictions. In particular, the enhancement of pions observed at the very low transverse-momenta is very wel…
Measurements of HBT correlations and event-by-event fluctuations of mean pT and the net charge in Pb-Au collisions at 40, 80, and 158 AGeV/c are presented. From comparisons of HBT radii measured from AGS to RHIC energies, a universal mean free path of pions at the thermal freeze-out of about 1 fm is derived. Non-statistical mean pT fluctuations of about 0.7 % are measured, which are somewhat smaller than fluctuations at RHIC. No indication for the QCD critical point is observed. Fluctuations of the net charge are reproduced by RQMD and URQMD models, but significantly larger than prediction in …
We present a calculation of the elliptic flow of electrons from beauty-hadron decays in semi-central Pb--Pb collisions at centre-of-mass energy per colliding nucleon pair, represented as $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$, of 2.76 TeV. The result is obtained by the subtraction of the charm quark contribution in the elliptic flow of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays in semi-central Pb--Pb collisions at \snn = 2.76 TeV recently made publicly available by the ALICE collaboration.
We present the ALICE results on the nuclear modification factor and elliptic flow of electrons and muons from open heavy-flavour hadron decays at mid-rapidity and forward rapidity in Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 and 5.02 TeV for different centrality intervals. The results are compared to model calculations that include interactions of heavy quarks with the medium.
A measurement is presented of the charged hadron multiplicity in hadronic PbPb collisions, as a function of pseudorapidity and centrality, at a collision energy of 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair. The data sample is collected using the CMS detector and a minimum-bias trigger, with the CMS solenoid off. The number of charged hadrons is measured both by counting the number of reconstructed particle hits and by forming hit doublets of pairs of layers in the pixel detector. The two methods give consistent results. The charged hadron multiplicity density dN(ch)/d eta, evaluated at eta=0 for head-on colli…
We present a measurement of the nuclear modification factor of electrons from heavy- flavour hadron decays at midrapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at {\surd}sNN = 2.76 TeV. Electrons are identified in the pt range 1.5 GeV/c < pt < 6 GeV/c. A suppression is seen for pt larger than 3.5 GeV/c in the most central collisions.
We present results of a search for two hypothetical strange dibaryon states, i.e. the H-dibaryon and the possible $\bar{Λ\mathrm{n}}$ bound state. The search is performed with the ALICE detector in central (0-10%) Pb-Pb collisions at $ \sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}} = 2.76$ TeV, by invariant mass analysis in the decay modes $\bar{Λ\mathrm{n}} \rightarrow \bar{\mathrm{d}} π^{+} $ and H-dibaryon $\rightarrow Λ\mathrm{p} π^{-}$. No evidence for these bound states is observed. Upper limits are determined at 99% confidence level for a wide range of lifetimes and for the full range of branching ratios. The resu…
At high pT, direct photons produced in Compton and annihilation QCD leading order processes are associated to a jet in the opposite direction. Such processes are tagged experimentally by identifying leading isolated photons and their correlated associated hadrons in the opposite azimuthal direction. The jet fragmentation can be estimated from the hadrons and the photon via the imbalance parameter xE. We present the results extracted from gamma-hadron correlations measured by the ALICE experiment in pp collisions at {\sqrt(s)} = 7 TeV. Direct photons are first identified using isolated criteria…
Local density fluctuations are expected to scale as a universal power-law when the system approaches critical point. Such power-law fluctuations are studied within the framework of intermittency through the measurement of normalized factorial moments in ($η$, $ϕ$) phase space. Observations and results from the intermittency analysis performed for charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions using PYTHIA8/Angantyr at 2.76 TeV and 5.02 TeV are reported. We observe no scaling behaviour in the particle generation for any of the centrality studied in narrow p$_T$ bins. The scaling exponent $ν$ shows no de…
In this work we are studying the relative beauty to charm production in pp collisions at \sqrt{s} = 2.76 TeV, through correlations between electrons from heavy-flavour decay and charged hadrons, with the ALICE detector at the LHC. This study represents a baseline for the analysis in heavy-ion collisions where heavy flavour production is a powerful tool to study the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP).
Two-particle azimuthal correlations of electrons from heavy-flavour hadron decays with charged particles can give insight into the properties of heavy-quark production and hadronization into heavy-flavour jets.\\ In this contribution, the ALICE results measured in pp collisions at 5.02 TeV, collected in the LHC Run 2, are presented. The yields of charged particles in the near and away-side correlation peaks and the peak width are compared with PYTHIA calculations.
The workshop on "Hadron-Hadron and Cosmic-Ray Interactions at multi-TeV Energies" held at the ECT* centre (Trento) in Nov.-Dec. 2010 gathered together both theorists and experimentalists to discuss issues of the physics of high-energy hadronic interactions of common interest for the particle, nuclear and cosmic-ray communities. QCD results from collider experiments -- mostly from the LHC but also from the Tevatron, RHIC and HERA -- were discussed and compared to various hadronic Monte Carlo generators, aiming at an improvement of our theoretical understanding of soft, semi-hard and hard parton…
In ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions heavy quarks (charm and beauty) are produced in hard scattering processes and thus carry relevant information on the properties of the created hot and dense medium. Heavy-flavour hadrons can be measured using electrons from their semileptonic decay channels. The relative contribution of charm and beauty hadrons can be estimated from the study of the near side azimuthal angular correlations between these electrons and charged hadrons. We present the measurement of azimuthal angular correlations between electrons and charged hadrons in pp collisions at …
The differential production cross section of electrons from semileptonic heavy-flavour hadron decays has been measured at mid-rapidity ($|y| < 0.5$) in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV with ALICE at the LHC. Electrons were measured in the transverse momentum range 0.5 $<p_{\rm T}<$ 8 GeV/$c$. Predictions from a fixed order perturbative QCD calculation with next-to-leading-log resummation agree with the data within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties.
The single inclusive spectrum of charged particles with transverse momenta pT=3-150 GeV/c measured at midrapidity by the CDF experiment in proton-antiproton (p-pbar) collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV is compared to next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculations using the most recent parametrizations of the parton distributions and parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions. Above pT~20 GeV/c, there is a very sizeable disagreement of the Tevatron data compared to the NLO predictions and to xT-scaling expectations, suggesting a problem in the experimental data. We also present the predicti…
