In this paper, we study some potential theoretic aspects of the eikonal and infinity Laplace operator on a Finsler manifold $M$. Our main result shows that the forward completeness of $M$ can be detected in terms of Liouville properties and maximum principles at infinity for subsolutions of suitable inequalities, including $Δ^N_\infty u \ge g(u)$. Also, an $\infty$-capacity criterion and a viscosity version of Ekeland principle are proved to be equivalent to the forward completeness of $M$. Part of the proof hinges on a new boundary-to-interior Lipschitz estimate for solutions of $Δ^N_\infty u = g(u)$ on relatively compact sets, that implies a uniform Lipschitz estimate for certain entire, bounded solutions without requiring the completeness of $M$.
By using Bochner technique and gradient estimate, we give the lower bound estimates of the first eigenvalue of Finsler-Laplacian on Finsler manifolds. These results generalize the corresponding famous theorems in the Riemannian geometry.
We prove existence of harmonic coordinates for the nonlinear Laplacian of a Finsler manifold and apply them in a proof of the Myers--Steenrod theorem for Finsler manifolds. Different from the Riemannian case, these coordinates are not suitable for studying optimal regularity of the fundamental tensor, nevertheless, we obtain some partial results in this direction when the Finsler metric is Berwald.
We prove two bounds for the first Robin eigenvalue of the Finsler Laplacian with negative boundary parameter in the planar case. In the constant area problem, we show that the Wulff shape is the maximizer only for values which are close to 0 of the boundary parameter and, in the fixed perimeter case, that the Wulff shape maximizes the first eigenvalue for all values of the parameter.
Let Ωbe a bounded connected, open set of \R^n with Lipschitz boundary. Let F be a suitable norm in \R^n and let Δ_F u be the so-colled Finsler Laplacian. In this paper we prove two inequalities for the first eigenvalue of Δ_F with Robin boundary conditions involving a positive function β. As a consequence of our result we obtain the asymptotic behavior of this eigenvalue when βis a positive constant which goes to zero.
We study the dependence of the first eigenvalue of the Finsler $p$-Laplacian and the corresponding eigenfunctions upon perturbation of the domain and we generalize a few results known for the standard $p$-Laplacian. In particular, we prove a Frechét differentiability result for the eigenvalues, we compute the corresponding Hadamard formulas and we prove a continuity result for the eigenfunctions. Finally, we briefly discuss a well-known overdetermined problem and we show how to deduce the Rellich-Pohozaev identity for the Finsler $p$-Laplacian from the Hadamard formula.
In this paper, we give a sharp lower bound for the first (nonzero) Neumann eigenvalue of Finsler-Laplacian in Finsler manifolds in terms of diameter, dimension, weighted Ricci curvature.
We consider a partially overdetermined problem for anisotropic $N$-Laplace equations in a convex cone $Σ$ intersected with the exterior of a bounded domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb{R}^N$, $N\geq 2$. Under a prescribed logarithmic condition at infinity, we prove a rigidity result by showing that the existence of a solution implies that $Σ\capΩ$ must be the intersection of the Wulff shape and $Σ$. Our approach is based on a Pohozaev-type identity and the characterization of minimizers of the anisotropic isoperimetric inequality inside convex cones.
We prove the Bochner-Weitzenböck formula for the (nonlinear) Laplacian on general Finsler manifolds and derive Li-Yau type gradient estimates as well as parabolic Harnack inequalities. Moreover, we deduce Bakry-Émery gradient estimates. All these estimates depend on lower bounds for the weighted flag Ricci tensor.
We prove a rigidity result for the anisotropic Laplacian. More precisely, the domain of the problem is bounded by an unknown surface supporting a Dirichlet condition together with a Neumann-type condition which is not translation-invariant. Using a comparison argument, we show that the domain is in fact a Wulff shape. We also consider the more general case when the unknown surface is required to have its boundary on a given conical surface: in such a case, the domain of the problem is bounded by the unknown surface and by a portion of the given conical surface, which supports a homogeneous Neu…
In this paper we prove existence results and asymptotic behavior for strong solutions $u\in W^{2,2}_{\textrm{loc}}(Ω)$ of the nonlinear elliptic problem \begin{equation} \tag{P} \label{abstr} \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} -Δ_{H}u+H(\nabla u)^{q}+λu=f&\text{in }Ω,\\ u\rightarrow +\infty &\text{on }\partialΩ, \end{array} \right. \end{equation} where $H$ is a suitable norm of $\mathbb R^{n}$, $Ω$ is a bounded domain, $Δ_{H}$ is the Finsler Laplacian, $1<q\le 2$, $λ>0$ and $f$ is a suitable function in $L^{\infty}_{\textrm{loc}}$. Furthermore, we are interested in the behavior of the solutions when $λ…
We study regularity of the Finsler $γ$-Laplacian, a general class of degenerate elliptic PDEs which naturally appear in anisotropic geometric problems. Precisely, given any strictly convex family of $C^{1}$-norms $\{ ρ_{x}\}$ on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ and $γ> 1$, we consider the $W^{1,γ}(Ω)$ solutions of the anisotropic PDE $$ \displaystyle \int_Ω \left \langle ρ_{x}(Du)^{γ-1} (D ρ_{x})(Du), D φ\right \rangle = \int_Ω \vec{F} \cdot D φ+ f φ\qquad \forall φ\in W^{1,γ^{\prime}}_{0}(Ω). $$ Under the mild assumption $|ξ|^{-1} ρ_{x}( ξ) \in [ν, Λ]$ for all $(x,ξ) \in Ω\times \mathbb{R}^{n}$ and some $0 <…
In this paper, we propose a variational approach based on optimal transportation to study the existence and unicity of solution for a class of parabolic equations involving $q(x)$-Laplacian operator \begin{equation*}\label{equation variable q(x)} \frac{\partial ρ(t,x)}{\partial t}=div_x\left(ρ(t,x)|\nabla_x G^{'}(ρ(t,x))|^{q(x)-2}\nabla_x G^{'}(ρ(t,x)) \right) .\end{equation*} The variational approach requires the setting of new tools such as appropiate distance on the probability space and an introduction of a Finsler metric in this space. The class of parabolic equations is derived as the fl…
We prove the Bochner-Weitzenboeck formula for the (nonlinear) Laplacian on general Finsler manifolds and derive Li-Yau type gradient estimates as well as parabolic Harnack inequalities. Moreover, we deduce Bakry-Emery gradient estimates. All these estimates depend on lower bounds for the weighted flag Ricci tensor.
Suppose $F: \mathbb{R}^{N} \rightarrow [0, +\infty)$ be a convex function of class $C^{2}(\mathbb{R}^{N} \backslash \{0\})$ which is even and positively homogeneous of degree 1. We denote $γ_1=\inf\limits_{u\in W^{1, N}_{0}(Ω)\backslash \{0\}}\frac{\int_ΩF^{N}(\nabla u)dx}{\| u\|_p^N},$ and define the norm $\|u\|_{N,F,γ, p}=\bigg(\int_ΩF^{N}(\nabla u)dx-γ\| u\|_p^N\bigg)^{\frac{1}{N}}.$ Let $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^{N}(N\geq 2)$ be a smooth bounded domain. Then for $p> 1$ and $0\leq γ<γ_1$, we have $$ \sup_{u\in W^{1, N}_{0}(Ω), \|u\|_{N,F,γ, p}\leq 1}\int_Ωe^{λ|u|^{\frac{N}{N-1}}}dx<+\infty, $$ w…
In this paper, we prove a sharp lower bound of the first (nonzero) eigenvalue of Finsler-Laplacian with the Neumann boundary condition. Equivalently, we prove an optimal anisotropic Poincaré inequality for convex domains, which generalizes the result of Payne-Weinberger. A lower bound of the first (nonzero) eigenvalue of Finsler-Laplacian with the Dirichlet boundary condition is also proved.
Set in Riemannian enviroment, the aim of this paper is to present and discuss some equivalent characterizations of the Liouville property relative to special operators, in some sense modeled after the p-Laplacian with potential. In particular, we discuss the equivalence between the Lioville property and the Khas'minskii condition, i.e. the existence of an exhaustion functions which is also a supersolution for the operator outside a compact set. This generalizes a previous result obtained by one of the authors and answers to a question in "Aspects of potential theory, linear and nonlinear" by P…
We give a criterion of asymptotic completeness and provide a representation of the scattering matrix for the scattering couple $(A_{0},A)$, where $A_{0}$ and $A$ are semi-bounded self-adjoint operators in $L^{2}(M,{\mathscr B},m)$ such that the set $\{u\in D(A_{0})\cap D(A):A_{0}u=Au\}$ is dense. No sort of trace-class condition on resolvent differences is required. Applications to the case in which $A_{0}$ corresponds to the free Laplacian in $L^{2}({\mathbb R}^{n})$ and $A$ describes the Laplacian with self-adjoint boundary conditions on rough compact hypersurfaces are given.
We consider an overdetermined problem for the Finsler Laplacian in the exterior of a convex domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$, establishing a symmetry result for the anisotropic capacitary potential. Our result extends the one of W. Reichel [Arch. Rational Mech. Anal. 137 (1997)], where the usual Newtonian capacity is considered, giving rise to an overdetermined problem for the standard Laplace equation. Here, we replace the usual Euclidean norm of the gradient with an arbitrary norm $H$. The resulting symmetry of the solution is that of the so-called Wulff shape (a ball in the dual norm $H_0$).
